    Hi,
To be honest, I think that a visible field for the user to input their email address is going to be the best way.
Acrobat has a property called 'identity' in the Edit > Preferences menu, which contains user information, including email address. However this information only exists if the user has manually typed this into the preferences.
You can access the identify properties using a trusted function, however this can be troublesome, because you need to distribute and install the javascript file into a specific folder on ALL of your user's computers.
In addition if the user has not specified their email address in the preferences, you cannot get this data.
Lastly, there appears to be an issue if the form is Reader Enabled in Acrobat. There is a discussion here: Keep user from printing and seeing certain pages
All in all the trusted function is flaky and liable to failure. Outside of databases or some back end system, I can't see an easy to automatically harvest a users email address.
    Good luck,
    Niall

  • I updated my reader to version 10.1.6 and now my javascript email button does not create an email???

Our business has updated Adobe reader to 10.1.6.  I have a BUTTON that I use to send an email using Javascript but now it will not work and sometimes it freezes up.  When I open the same file in Acrobat Pro X it works fine.  I need it to work in Adobe reader since my coworkers do not have Pro on their computers.
I do have a computer that has an older version of Adobe reader on it and it has the repair option in the help section and when I click repair the file starts to work but with the update to 10.1.6 the repair option is gone.  I cannot uninstall or revert back to the older version because our IT department will not allow it so that option is not available to me.
    Can anyone help please?

I'm experiencing a similar issue in Reader 11.0.06 and the latest Acrobat XI as well. Anyone using 11.0.05 is fine. What changed in the latest update?
Update: I've been playing around with the Javascript settings in the preferences panel and I'm not sure what combination of the checkboxes makes the difference, but it seems to be working properly now. I'll update this post when I have the time to figure it out. (I had a feeling it was a security thing — the update notes for 11.0.06 weren't very enlightening, but they did say "security".)

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • What happened to the email button and how do you email now

When I downloaded this most recent version of Firefox, there was no email icon to click, which would then open (or go to aol if it was already open) and create an email template to fill in and send.
    Where is that function.
I browse in Firefox and have aol open in another window and jump between, giving the best of both worlds.
Now that functionality is lost if I can not create an email link in Firefox.
    HELP!!

Hi, open the 3-bar menu > Customize, and drag the Email Link button to a toolbar in the location of your choice > Exit Customize to save.
    Hope that helps.

  • Email button without submit

Trying to setup an email button that just launches the email app with a "to" address but I keep getting a "/" at the end of the email.
    I've tried:
    xfa.host.gotoURL("mailto://[email protected]//[email protected]");
    app.launchURL("mailto://[email protected]//[email protected]");

    Hi Jono,
    Try
    app.launchURL(
    mailto:[email protected]?cc=[email protected]&bcc=[email protected]&subject=Message Title&body=Message Content);
Seems to work in Acrobat 9.2 ... haven't tested any others.

  • "Submit Form" button automatically created when opening form in non-adobe program

I tried browsing the forum for a solution to getting rid of this annoying automatic button but got nothing. It gets generated on the body of the form (top right) when I publish for distribution using any method for collection. I'm using pdf expert 5 to fill and submit forms because adobe reader doesn't do what I need how I need it. Everything is perfect except for that annoying submit form button that specifies submitting by email because 'user is not using reader or acrobat version whatever'.
Anyone know how to get rid of this button?
    Thanks!

    Yes, that is correct.
I did not manually add this button, so I am assuming it was somehow automatically created.
It worked great up until now that I need to change the "To:" email address.
I've look through the XML code associated this this email address and changed it every where I could find it, but it still hasn't changed my results.  So, I have no idea how to change this and as stated above, if I create a new form it automatically sets it up to be sent to the wrong email address.  Not sure why or how to change it?
Let me know if you need further info to help me out.
    Thanks again

  • Email Button:  Can you import information back into a form?

I created a form using Live Cycle and included both a print button and an email button. • Email button "actual size" attaches reduced size

I recently noticed that when I use the "email button" in iphoto to email a photo and select "actual size" it ends up creating an email with the photo at a reduced size, however this does not happen when I attach photos using the photo browser button in Apple Mail. For instance I attached a 4.5 MB image directly from iphoto using the email button the image in the email ended up being 2.3 MB even though I selected actual size. I then opened Apple Mail and composed a new message, I selected the same photo with the photo browser button, dragged and dropped it and it attached at actual size. Is there any way to attach at actual size using the iphoto email button?

    LN,
Thanks for the info. When I email the photo via the iphoto email button and select actual size, actual size is also selected in the email and the file size is still reduced. In addition the size reduction varies from email to email. For instance if I try to send the same 4.5 MB photo from iphoto it may make it 2.3 MB in one email and 3.0 MB in another, both times actual size was selected in iphoto and the email? Any ideas? Thanks again!

  • Submit Button Acrobat 9 Pro & Select Email Client Screen

I'm new to Acrobat and creating forms and need help.  I've created a few forms for work using 8 Pro, which have been successful.  I decided to purchase 9 Pro for home and use for our school's PTU membership drive.
I created a form using a Word doc and the Acrobat Form Wizard.  It worked, I adjusted my fields, added a Submit button with mailto:[email protected] as the URL and want to distribute the form as "save and distribute later."  This works.  When I bring up the form for a test run, and submit to myself I get a pop up asking to Select Email Client - do I use Outlook (a few others are also listed) or Yahoo or Hotmail as my email servers.  If I click Outlook, everything is fine, the document gets forwarded to me with no problem (because I use Outlook).  My concern is for members who don't use Outlook (or the others).  They have to go through more steps by saving the doc to their hard drive and emailing it to me as an attachment.  I would really like to avoid extra steps for them.
It there a something I'm missing in setting up my Submit button so it automatically gets emailed to me irregardless as to what they are using for email server?
I have searched for 2 hours and have come up with nothing that I understand.  If you respond, please remember to be clear as I'm not a techno person.
Thanks for ANY and ALL help you can provide.

You are running into some of the classic problems/concerns for new users with forms. I will try to summarize the issues related to your work:
    1. You can create forms directly in Acrobat under the TOOLS menu using the form tools found there, or by selecting the options in the FORMS menu that generally take you to LiveCycle Designer. Questions on the forms should be put to the appropriate forum of these two, since the processing and menus are different.
    2. Having the forms be allowed to be saved (necessary for submitting the full form and not just the data that can be imported to the form) requires Reader Rights to be activated for clients using Reader. This activation limits the form use to 500 uses (check section 15 of the EULA for more details) that could be a problem for you, depending on the school size. If you have the form data submitted and do not activate the Rights, then there is not a limitation. Simply import the XML or FDF file into the form when you get it.
    3. The e-mail submission you have concerns about is valid. If you do not mind getting questions that it would not work on their machine, then fine. The e-mail submission will not work on all machines (PC , MAC, or UNIX). It depends on the client setup (you have no control), historically requiring MAPI to be active (typical of Outlook, but not other packages). In AA9/AR9 there appear to have been some extensions to this, but a lot of folks use version 9. In fact I have a different version that has come on every machine I have and do not have AA9 yet (AA4-AA8), with even older versions lying around some place. A few weeks ago someone checked in who was using AA4. Since I mentioned this problem, the solutions are:
    a. live with it and ask folks who can not submit to copy the info into the body of an e-mail or such.
    b. find someone who can add the proper scripts to a web server to receive the data. The school IT folks (if any) might be able to help there.
    c. submit the data in HTML form through a cgi-mail or formmail server that is available on many ISP servers (you may have to ask). These servers require some hidden fields telling the server where to send the submitted form data.
    Hope that helps. Bill

  • Submit by email button not working

I have a simple form which has worked fine for the past couple of years, but since updating it with Livecycle Designer ES8.2 recently, the 'submit by email' button is not working for many who have downloaded it.
Works fine when I try it here and it worked fine last year, but not with this latest version of the pdf apparently.
If anyone has a moment could they have a look and see if there's anything obviously wrong? (It has a couple of required fields before the button will work) It's at http://www.mogsport.net/series/2009-SeriesAppForm.pdf
    Thanks

    XP Pro SP3, LC ES8.2, Acrobat 9

i have had this problem too. it looks like you are getting the xml data file because the pdf opens as read only in acrobat reader and cannot be saved. one thing that solved the problem for me was to open the file in acrobat pro and use the distribute form wizard. this may just be a roundabout way of doing the reader extension paul mentioned, but in my case it worked.
open the file in acrobat pro (if you have it)
go to forms > distribute form...
when you get to "how do you want to collect responses.." select "manually collect responses in my inbox" from the dropdown menu and click next
then you will get to "how do you want to save your form"... click save a local copy and send it later the click the browse button and select where you want to save the document.
    then click finish
go to where you saved the file and it should have the file name with "distributed" after it. send out that file and it should be able to save and return a pdf when the recipient clicks the submit by email button.
from what i remember the first time you go through the dist form process you have to fill in contact info, email etc. whatever email you put for this will be the email the form is returned to when you hit the submit by email button. from what i remember it even overrides the email address programmed into the sumbit by email button. if you want to change the contact info later you can change it in Edit > preferences > identity
    hope this works for you

  • Captivate 4 - I need to add a Email Button that reads Submit

I looked in the Help feature for Captivate 4 and couldn't find my answer.
So my predecessor put a button on the quiz results page that would allow people to submit their quiz results to the LMS. I am unable to recreate this button. When I look at the button on projects she created, it is showing as an "email button". I have no clue how to add an "email button". I also can't copy/paste the button from one project to another. Nor can I copy/paste the slide from one project to another.
Anyone have a clue how I add a "email button" from scratch?
Here is a screen shot that partially shows the quiz results page, and the properties window for the button. THANK YOU for all the help!!!!!

Hi Rick, thanks for the response. I appreciate it!
So the issue isn't what the buttons are doing on the actual quiz slides, it's needing to add an Email button on the slide that gives the final scoring information (the reporting slide?). The screen shot you have shown me, isn't that the submit button on the quiz slides, not the final scoring slide?
As you can see here, I have the Submit button on quiz slides:
When I look at the properties of this Submit button, it shows as a Text button, not an Email button like the Submit button on the reporting slide is.
Now I know you are probably thinking I should just click the drop down and select "email", but that selection is not there:
Here are screen shots of my Quiz preferences and Reporting preferences:
What I need to create is a Submit button on the reporting slide for the quiz that is an Email button. Like this one:
When I look at the properties of this Submit button, it is an Email button. Notice how the tab says "Email Button" and not "Submit button" like the other properties windows for the other "Submit" buttons.
This is where I'm stuck. When I go to Captivate projects that have a reporting page with a Submit button, I can't copy/paste the button. I tried to do a right click and I don't have a copy option:
When I higlight Submit and go to Edit, I don't see the option to copy the button there either.
So I figured I would copy the slide to the presentation that needs this Submit/Email button and I can't copy/paste the slide either. When I do a right click on the slide, there isn't a copy option:
When I go to to Edit to try to copy the slide, the option isn't there either:
I am really thinking that the Submit button the final reporting slide for the quiz is a Widget of some sort. Hum.
    Thanks! Karen

You select the printer properties and set the appropriate page size (I think there is a place to set it in PDF Maker too, but not sure). In the printer, this is equivalent to putting the proper paper in the printer.
