My ten AT&T/Yahoo! email addresses slowly stopped working ...

All were set up as IMAP accounts and all addresses are of the @sbcglobal.net type.  Even though I could log into the same accounts via the web using Safari, and all passwords are stored in my Keychain, the Mail app was rendered useless by popdowns continually asking for the email account passwords.  Strangely, the popdowns actually contained ************ for the passwords but I still had to press OK for each popdown.  At first it was just a couple of the addresses, but then eventually all of them became useless.  Unfortunately, the popdown sequence repeated over and over.  Only after I clicked on Cancel on each popdown was I eventually able to access Mail Preferences to turn OFF the addresses.
AT&T/U-Verse uses Yahoo!'s email servers.  I talked with the AT&T/U-Verse Help Desk and they sent instructions to review ... none of which worked.  They said that the latest AT&T/Yahoo! addresses for receiving and sending email messages are inbound.att.net and outbound.att.net, respectively.  But I couldn't get these to work no how.  So I created 10 new email accounts as POPs to replace the IMAPs and the new I/O addresses still would not work. 
After MUCH experimentation I hit on a combination that sort of works for each address using Apple Mail:  IN - pop.mail.yahoo.com and OUT - smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com.  I received a warning that that OUT address is not SSL compliant but I'm forced to use it until some improvement comes along.
I really would rather go back to using IMAP because it's newer and offers more security features ... but that will not work for me at this time.
Has anyone else experienced AT&T/Yahoo! IMAP email breakdowns?  Does anyone know if AT&T and/or Yahoo! are mucking around with their email arrangements?
I've received email messages from AT&T/U-Verse that email changes are coming in mid June 2013 ... but that's a month away.
[I'm running Mountain Lion 10.8.3 which was not available in the product choice below]

It's been reported a few times that passwords with upper-case letters are being rejected by the Yahoo mail servers.

    Is anyone else experiencing the following problem:
    I've set up my iPhone to work with Yahoo. Sending email works fine. After a few days, emails are not being sent. From the iPhone, it looks like they should have been sent. Checking my Sent folder on Yahoo, they are not there. And of course, the intended recipients do not recieve the emails either.
    If I delete my Yahoo account on my iPhone, and recreate it, sending will work again for another 1-3 days. Then I am back to the same problem.
    Extremely unreliable and frustrating. How can someone be expected to use this phone if they can't rely on emails being sent when the phone suggests that no problems were encountered

    Exact same thing is happening to me, I have just sent Apple feedback on this issue and on Yahoo Push as well. Hope we all get a fix soon.

    You can an email account from either your ISP (internet service provider) or from an email account provider only such as Apple (.Mac), Yahoo, etc.

    I have Cable modem service at Home and I purchased an Airport Express wireless router which is connected to my cable modem. This allows me to create a wireless network at home which is password protected and encrypted. Any neighbors within range of my wireless network can see my network but are unable to connect to it (without my permission or knowledge) since I have it password protected and encrypted.
    Although your friend's MacBook may be within range of someone else's wireless network, most are password protected (or should be) and even if not protected, this doesn't give your friend or anyone else the right to connect to this dumb person's unprotected wireless network without their permission and knowledge.
    Even if your friend does so with or without permission, he will probably have problems sending messages with an email account and SMTP server not provided by the person's internet service provider with the wireless network.
    There are a number of paid and free wireless access locations at coffee shops and the like but each has different requirements for using an email account and SMTP server that is outside of their network.
    Having an Airport or wireless card does not give you free internet access unless you are within range of a free public wireless network which must be within 150 feet or so.

    Your purchases are permanently tied to the Apple ID (account) used to purchase them.  They can't be moved to another account and you can merge accounts.  You can start making new purchases with your iCloud ID if you want, but you will end up with two sets of purchases under two different IDs, adding further complication to your life.
    Also, your @icloud email address is an alias of your existing @me address; emails sent to either address will be routed to the same inbox.  You can decide which one you want to use as your default (as discussed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5441) but you can't separate them.

    Ok !! I think I finally found the trouble of this !! I went crazy that every 5 seconds I had to fill in my password for my yahoo account om Apple Mail. My computer is in another language so I'll try to translate as good as possible the buttons and so ..
    So these are the steps required:
    You need to give computer access to the password of Yahoo.com. How to do so ?
    You go to the application "Key Chain" that is included in your MacBook Pro.
    Then you go to the first tab that should say something with "Login/Session" and you should see all your saved passwords.
    Scroll down to the saved password of  "Yahoo: your-username @ ...
    Click on it, you should see a window opening
    Go to the tab "Access Control"
    Then click on "Allow all applications to connect .. ", NOT the option "Ask every time for allowance" or you can also just add the program "MAIL" with the "+" icon !!
    There you go, now you should not have to worry again !!!!!!

    Im experiencing the same issue. what I can suggest is try to create an outlook account online and add your yahoo to your outlook. works for me.

    Configured Apple Mail on a new iMac running Maverick 10.9.1 but my email is custom for business purposes rather than gmail, yahoo, etc.  I'm not able to send or receive on this custom address though others work fine.  Get an error that it can't connect to the internet despite identical settings to my MacBook Pro which works.  Nothing turned up on the web domain side.  Help!

    Indeed, the email account tends to become active on the day the BB starts to work. However it may not be until late in the day. If the email address can't be accessed on the go live day, check the day after - and if it still fails, you can contact a moderator who should be able to unlock the email account.
    You don't have to use the email account, but it may get sent service emails from BT.

    Hi, I've been assigned a new BT Yahoo email address and password, but they won't work. Does that get activated when my broadband becomes active? I go live with BT on Monday but surely if a yahoo email has been setup I should be able to log in now?
    Also, do I have to use this email account? Will BT email me at the address I have refisted with My BT if they need to contact me?

    It doesn't sound like you "changed" your Apple ID, sounds like you created a new one. Bad idea. All content bought with an Apple ID is forever tied to that ID. The ID that bought the content is the only ID that can update the content. Apple does not merge IDs not does Apple transfer content from one ID to another.

    I have tried deleting the account and it deletes all my contacts.  I have verizon and even using back up assistant, it says the contacts are there but they aren't.  The only way i can find a contact is if I start to type a name in and new text but once i sent the new text, the name disappears and it just shows the number.  Siri nor the address book don't recognize any contacts at all.

    I cant find any reciept in my email or in my husbands email.  I am going to attempt to call and speak to someone who can help me because this was not my fault except trying to be normal and update my phone!

    First, when sending your message, the filename should be a simple
    filename, not containing any directory names.
    It sounds like your mail server might be doing some special
    processing of attachments, perhaps to prevent viruses.
