My word balloons have a "faded" look to them (photoshop 6.0)

I only need the most basic for my scanned in comics but when I add a word balloon I:
#1. in tool strip, select Elliptical Marqueee tool
#2. Make a circle for the balloon (in those dots)
#3.Hold down SHIFT to position my pointer for making the funnel or arrow up to word ballon for character that is talking
#4. Go to EDIT>STROKE>choose black color>Hit SELECT
However, after selecting the black line to make the word balloon, it is very cloudy, hazy and faded looking. Is there a setting I am missing? Keep in mind my program is version 6.0 - don't laugh, it works for me! THANKS

OK, we've got it!
What is happening is that when you use Microsoft's save as PDF in Word, the font isn't embedded even though the font is tagged to allow embedding. Furthermore, Microsoft doesn't properly put the font name into the PDF file such that Acrobat or Reader can readily find the font installed on your system such that the text can be properly displayed and/or printed. Acrobat and Reader attempt to display and/or print the text using a “substitution font” and of course, as they say, YMMV (“your mileage may vary”)!
I personally submitted the report of this problem (both the embedding and the font name problem) to Microsoft. They acknowledge the bug, tried a fix and provided me a build with it, but it wasn't right. Maybe they will ultimately fix it, maybe they won't. We don't know yet. We do know that if it is fixed, it will be fixed only for Office 2013 (problem occurs with all Office applications since they use the same PDF generation code) and thus such a fix won't help you.
Adobe Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Pro both provide an Adobe PDFMaker plug-in to Office applications (including full support for Office 2010) that adds an Acrobat Toolbar as well as a Save as Adobe PDF menu item. The resultant PDF file fully supports embedding of OpenType CFF, TrueType, and Type 1 fonts and in many other ways produces much superior PDF with a full range of PDF generation options not available with the Microsoft PDF. (Note that beginning with Office 2013, Microsoft does not support Type 1 fonts in Office documents at all, even for existing documents!) The Acrobat Office functions are widely used and respected in the end user community and whatever “issues” there are (all software has “issues” of some type - it is a matter of how many and how severe), you should be in much better shape for PDF production that with what you currently are using.

Saved word documents have dissappeared from the desk top after saving. Problem seems to occur when laptop is switched off and then re-started. they can't be found anywhere e.g tried spotlight, recent documents etc. Help. Joe

Not sure about the MS Word message, but it looks like you might need an upgrade. I'd check with Microsoft, or perhaps VersionTracker.com.
Ok, back to the original problem. Does the message have any other text (intelligible or not)?
Does it give you any options, especially "report"? If so, take it, then look via Console for a crash log.
What IS in the system log for the sleep/wake time? There should be a System Sleep, followed by a System Wake, and perhaps another line or two. Anything in that area might be helpful.

I have a faded streak down middle of page when copying, scanning, faxing only

When I copy or scan a document the copy or scanned page comes out with a faded streak verically down the middle of the page. the faded area is approx 2 3/4 inches wide. I can print from the computer fine, no streak appears on the printed copy. This only happens in copy, scan and probably faxing. I've done all troubleshooting for scanning, faxing and copying for this type of all in one printer. Any suggestions.

That's the metadata server, used by Spotlight. AFAIK, Spotlight does not index audio CDs, so what is this about? I don't know. Maybe it's the cause of what you observe; or maybe it's another symptom. Thinking again of the network issue… have you maybe installed some third-party software related to both Spotlight and the network (Searchlight perhaps)?

I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly what device you are trying to set up and what is happening when you try to do so. If you are having issues remembering your Apple ID, or feel like you may have set up multiple Apple ID's, you may find the following page helpful:

If you wish to use home sharing then you need to setup the Apple TV under your ID.

When you log into you icloud account on your computer you are viewing data that you sync to icloud not the backups. You can't view the backups.

My table of contents does not use the entry style I select for words in the paragraph that have character styles applied to them in the chapter, so some of the letters are showing up as green, which is fine in the chapter but not in the TOC.

You could use Microsoft Office for Mac, but I would recommend iWork! It's a better set of applications for a much better price. I have used both and I prefer it over Office. And Pages can not only open Word documents, you can also save documents in Word format. My brother and I both used iWork as an Office substitute when we were in college (I graduated a few years ago and he just graduated last night) and haven't had any compatibility issues.
