    hi
    i m trying to connect to mysql database through java.
    i have mysql-java-connector jars file placed in the
    JAVA_HOME\jre\lib\ext directory.That's a terrible place to put them. Only language extensions (e.g., packages that start with javax) belong in there. Put that JAR closer to your application.
    >
    now when i try to run this file its starts givin me
    this error...............
    Exception in thread "main"
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: TestLook at the exception: it's complaining about Test, NOT the MySQL JDBC driver class.
    You obviously don't understand how CLASSPATH works:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/tooldocs/windows/classpath.html
    I think you have to add the current directory to the CLASSPATH in order to run your Test:
    java -classpath . TestNote the "dot" after -classpath. That tells the class loader to start looking in the current directory. since your Test.java doesn't have a package statement, I'm assuming that Test.class is in the same directory as Test.java.

  • Few question about Java and MySQL connection

    Hi!
    I have some problems with creating connection between Java and MySQL.
    I followed the restrictions in mysql-connector-java.jar' readme, I set the CLASSPATH :
    CLASSPATH=.;D:/mysql/mysql-connector-java.jar;
    I copied this jar file to the right place (descripted above), and I used the right steps to load it:
    Class.forName('com.mysql.jdbc.Driver"); and it throws a ClassNotFoundException
    Why? All the paths are correct, everything is on the right place.... I dont know why.
    When I installed the JBuilder8, and copied the jar file to JBuilder8/jdk4/jre/lib/ext it worked without any CLASSPATH in enviromental variables.
    If I want to run my program on machines where are not JBuilder, what should I do?
    Please help, if you can.
    Thanks,
    henpanta

    Yeah. So if I compiled my program with JBuilder to an .exe file, I cant run it on other machines, if the jar file isnt in the same place?
    If I tried your advice, java -classpath mymainclass I got the next message:
    main class not found. Believe me, its there. :(

  • MySQL trying to connect my java program

    I am trying to write a java program that I can connect to a MySQL database on my compter. I have typed out this example that is in a text book I have and I am trying to connect my java program to a MySQL database. The version of MySQL is 4.1 which I have recently downloaded onto my computer and is working fine. The problem I am having is in ther places where it says "WHAT DO I ENTER HERE", basically the 'database.properties' , the 'jdbc.drivers' and the 'jdbc.url' string names. I do not know what I am supposed to enter. If you could give me some help with what I am supposed to enter or an example of a java program that already works with MySQL that would be of great help to me. A working example would be the greatest help to me .

  • How to get total number of Database connections from Java code

    Hi,
    I am using Myql4.1.12.
    I am conncting to mysql through Java.
    I want to know how many active database connections were running at a specific time. Is it possible?
    Can you please help me.
    Thanks in advance.

    Seems like this would be a question for MySql, not for Java. And if it's possible you'd run some MySql utility to do that, not code it in a Java app.

    Use a connection pool and it will automatically take care of this for you (as long as you retreive the connection from the pool everytime you need it, and not just once at the start of the app, and close it as soon as you finish using it, not just at the "end" of the app, closing a pool connection simply returns it to the pool, it does not actually close it).
    Edit: That is, if the DB is part of the hosting service. If you are having the problem by the actual connection attempt, and the DB is located someplace else, then it is probably a routing/firewall issue. I.E. the hosting service is not allowing you to connect to it.

    Make sure that you are using the correct version of the MySQL JDBC driver. I remember getting something similar when using an older driver with an alpha of version 5 of MySQL.

    I had such issue too, and I fixed it by adding in the environment variables the CLASSPATH entry that pointed to all the directories containing the .jar needed for the applications.
    for example I used jodbc folder to connect mysql database (I installed last version and I got same issue than yours and it seems to be a 'connector' issue, exactly the same issue than yours) I got something like
    CLASSPATH=my root dir/the java dir/the lib dir/jodbc;my root dir/the java dir/other important libs containing .jar files;
    This is what I got for the issue, still working around (at the level of mysql all is ok, ...)

    Maybe the drivers used (last one: connector/j 3.1.12). The .jar file is in the %classpath% directory c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_06\lib.
    Can't really understand why this code won't run anymore, ...
    I took a look on the other computer where the same code is running ok.
    These are the differences:
    mysql server is 5.0.18 on the other computer the version is 3.23.41
    mysql connector is 3.51.12 on the other computer the version is 3.0.10
    access rights are the same because the database is the dumped one from 3.23.41 to 5.0.18, and I'm quite good with the dbms management (I'm IT developper in fact, trying to take over java technology ;) )
    in this case this is not a sql error but java error.
    the jar file is set to the %classpath% folder on both computers
    I copied the jar from the other computer, removing the new .jar file and... it failed, exactly the same issue
    Still working around, ...

  • Auto mySQL connectivity(Username and Password)

    Hey guys!
    Good Day!
    I have something to ask if possible to java and mySQL connectivity.
    I have project that connects to mysql but im using this:
    "+con1 = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost/POS_Database","root", "12345");+"
    Now, how to auto config the mysql connection not setting the username and password in the project? It configure whatever the settings of mySQL (username and password).

    you will have to have the user name and password someware. If not in the code. You casn put them in a file and read it in the code.
    Another thing that you can do is to make every user account of your software a valid user in the database. So when the user logs in to software users user name and the password is what you have to use to connect to database. But that will create a bit of a administrative overhead and also it will make it deficult to use connection pooling.

  • Mac OS X MySQL Connect throws Unexpected end of input stream

    With java version 1.4.2_05 I'm attempting to run an application which retrieves information from a MySQL database version 4.1 on Mac OS X Panther 10.3.6 The application operates without error on Windows and Linux using MySQL v4.0. Relevant Code appears below..

         private static final String URL = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306";

                        StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer(URL);
                        sb.append("/").append(getDatabase());
                        Class.forName(DRIVER);
                        /* Failure occurs here while calling getConnection on the

                        con = DriverManager.getConnection(sb.toString(), getUser(), getPassword());
              } catch(SQLException sle) {
                   sle.printStackTrace();
         } But on Mac X I'm seeing an exception thrown.

I've used the GRANT statement etc. It's unclear to me why I am having difficulty with the newer MySQL on Mac OS X. Any feedback is appreciated thanks.

    I managed to solve this by having the MySQL server run as a service rather than attempting to start it via the application. So now the application can retrieve from the database without error.

  • Problem in mysql connectivity

    Hi friends
    i have connect the java program using mySQL. Every thing is going fine, but when i use
    rs.moveToInsertRow()
    rs.updateString()
    rs.insertRow()
    there is a exception occurs.
    I have created the Statement Object using
    ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE
    ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE
    Plz Help me
    Thanx

    You didn't share the exception information with us so really it's hard to tell. There could be a large number of things wrong, for example you could be failing to provide a value for a column that cannot be null.
    As a guess though I would say that you should be aware that asking for an updatable cursor is a request not a command. You are requesting an updatable cursor and the database/driver MAY return an updatable cursor or it MAY NOT. There are some DB/driver dependent factors as to whether a cursor will be updatable or not. These factors include thiings like often you must select the primary key as part of the result set, that you most often can't use JOINs, other factors may apply. Anyway look into that.

  • Database (MySQL) connection error

    Can someone please tell me what I have to do to either the MySQL database or the code in order for this to work? The app will not connect to the database. The URL is correct, I have pasted the errors. Thanks so much for the help. I know errors arent code but that's the only way I could exceed the 5000 limit.

  • Weblogic8.1 and mysql connection failure, please help

    Pardon me for repeating this topic. I have spent 2 days on this but still ended
    up with failure.
    The similar configuration works very well under wls7.0.
    It should not be a problem of jdbc driver or its classpath setting, since the
    system console say "successful..."
    But when I try to access jsp and servlets, it always throws execeptions. All projects
    run successfully under wls7.0 don't work.

    1. This assumes that you have downloaded the mysql database and configured it and started
    it by running mysqld. In my case, I installed it in d:/mysql.
    2. It also assumes that you have configured a user on the database.
    I configured a user "test" with password "test" on the database "mysql" on "localhost" using
    mysql --user=root mysql
    grant all privileges on *.* to test@localhost identified by 'test' with grant option;
    3. It assumes that you have downloaded the Connector/J zip file and pulled out the jar file.
    In my case, I renamed it and copied it to d:/mysql/lib/jdbc.jar.
    4. It is absolutely necessary that you put the jar file in your server classpath. It won't
    work without doing that. Then I booted the server.
    5. I used the WLS 8.1 console to configure the connection pool and associated data source.
    In my case, they look like the following:
    <JDBCConnectionPool DriverName="org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver"
    Name="mysql" Password="test"
    Properties="user=test"
    Targets="myserver"
    TestTableName="SQL SELECT 1"
    URL="jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/mysql"/>
    <JDBCTxDataSource
    JNDIName="myDataSource"
    Name="myDataSource"
    PoolName="mysql"
    Targets="myserver"/>
    Note that the console uses the old class name for the driver. There is a new class name but
    the old name still exists and we figured it would cover folks using the old and new classes.
    6. I'll attach a client program that looks up the datasource associated with the connection pool,
    gets a connection, and does some stuff with the connection.
    The user/password combination must have security priviledges in WLS to reserve a connection
    on the pool.
    The code for this program is taken almost entirely from the WLS JDBC documentation.
    This is all pretty standard stuff.
