MySQL innodb_buffer_pool_size and swap

I have a few of my MySQL configurations located here
Based on this, I have an innodb_buffer_pool_size of 12G, but my data is 10G larger.
I'm sure that we do not consistently access 22G of data because a portion of it is just old logs.
However, for performance sakes, should I just increase the RAM to ~24G or higher?? because my swap is being used pretty heavily too.
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community

What it indicates us how we can read buffer pool is using by db is good or bad etc...As size increase in column(size_for_estimate),you can see the reduction of physical Read,so if you can see drastically reduction in this then you should increase the buffer cache.
this advisory just give to estimation that increasing buffer cache will help you to reduce phycial IO as more blocks will be get from memory after incresing buffer cache.

  • Satellite S50T-B - Adding RAM and swapping HDD for SSD

    HI there,
    I have recently purchased the Satelitte S50t-B laptop and have a few question about upgrading:
    1. What is the recommended RAM to add (8GB)
    2. What is the recommended SSD to add?
    3. Are there any instructions to add RAM and an SSD to my laptop?
    4. Will I void my warranty by installing more RAM and swapping the current hard drive for an SSD?
    Thank you for your help

    This notebook is listed on Toshiba page:
    http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/satellite/s50/pspq8a-008008/specifications
    - What is the recommended RAM to add (8GB)
    The unit supports 16GB RAM, so you can add an second PC3-12800 8GB DDR3L (1600Mhz) SO-DIMM module (i.e PA5104U-1M8G)
    - 2. What is the recommended SSD to add?
    Its up to you there are different SSD drive on the market and most of the 2.5 SATA SSD drives should be compatible.
    - 3. Are there any instructions to add RAM and an SSD to my laptop?
    It looks like both parts (RAM as well as SSD/HDD) are not user upgradable since there is no separate access to the memory or HDD bay. This means that whole plastic cover at the bottom of the unit needs to be remove in order to get access to these part.
    But as far as I know this would cancel the device warranty!!!
    - 4. Will I void my warranty by installing more RAM and swapping the current hard drive for an SSD?
    If you want to keep the warranty valid, such upgrade should be performed by authorized engineer.

  • Difference between MySQL null and JAVA null

    When I create a new record in my MySQL db and some of the values are not intered, MySQL thinks of them as null. Java makes an error when the variable is used. But when I set the values to ' ' (blank) java sees it as null and makes no error.
    Is there a way around that??????
    BR Soren

    "" and null is totally different thing.
    you can try checking for null instead of "".

  • What should i do with an Oracle 11g Database, MySQL database and a dump file.

    I just joining to a new work field, almost about a database and i know "NOTHING" about this field.

    So the quest is converting Oracle Database to MySQL database.
    Of course i cant try to convert it in the main Database, so i create one Oracle 11g Database on my LocalHost, and it already actived in " Localhost:1158 " etc.
    I have another Sever test that already set up MySQL database, and a dump file from the system.
    So I want to ask these 2 questions :
    1. How to create an new Oracle Database from that dump file ?
    2. Is it alright if i use tool to convert Oracle Database into MySql, or i should do it manually ?
    Thanks alot.

    So the quest is converting Oracle Database to MySQL database.
    I predict that converting to MySQL will cost your company more as it expands. As you expand managing contention becomes more important - Oracle does this for you. I do not think MySQL does, so you'll have to write more code to deal with this, costing the company money. A big part of making application scalable and reliable is to use stored procedures, how good are MySQL's compared to PL/SQL's. What other features are there that MySQL has that will benefit your company that Oracle doesn't. What do you need to think about as your company expands that need to be taken care of in the database. I would have thought a migration from MySQL to Oracle would be more common to deal with expansion.
    As you know "NOTHING" you need to think about what each database can give you for the next 10 years to cope with you businesses potential requirements, and extimate how much it will cost to implement these requirements, then make the decision

  • How can I include a MySQL table and records with the PUT of my Dreamweaver site?

    I am using .php to validate a user code against one of four codes that I am providing to potential clients.  They enter that code, along with a default user id and the appropriate page is then displayed for them.  Everything is working fine on the desktop.  I need to have this table and the records created on my remote server.  I tried saving the table in the Connections folder, but that didn't help.  Everytime I enter a code (valid or invalid) on the live site, I get the following message:  "Table 'boundsauctions_com.promocode' doesn't exist".  Is there someway to include the table and records in my Dreamweaver folders for the site?
    Thanks for any help that you can offer.

    You can't.  Dreamweaver, or FTP for that matter has no connection to the MySQL database.  If you have created a MySQL database locally and now wish to move/copy it to your server you'll need to create a back up of your local database and then log into your database on the server and then restore that back up.
    An even easier way to do this, and if you are working with MySQL much at all  a good investement is to get the commercial version of Navicat MySQL - this is the best MySQL administrator I've found to date and is well worth the few bucks to buy it.  With Navicat you can connect to your local MySQL database and also create a connection to your remote database, then literally drag and drop your local database contents to copy them to your server. This function alone justifies buying Navicat. A huge time saver.   And no I do not work for or have any share or ties to Navicat.  I'd recommend something else if I knew of anything better, but so far I don't.
    Hope this helps. If you need any more details let me know.

    My MacBook (late 2009 Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) often runs VERY slow...beach ball of death frequently.  My page ins (3.29GB), page outs (5.64BG), and swap files (10GB) seem extremely high in comparison to most other discussions in here.   I don't know how to copy the pie chart so it shows on here but here's what it says right now:
    Free - 176 MB
    Wired - 592MB
    Active - 843MB
    Inactive - 432MB
    Used - 1.82 GB
    VM size - 198GB
    The page ins and page outs have 0 bytes/sec in the parenthesis even though the numbers are so high.
    Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated!!!

    You difinately need more ram. 2gb is the bare minimum to run just the Lion OS, anything extra will slow your Mac to a crawl. Upgrade to 8gb from either Crucial http://www.crucial.com/ or OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/
    And you will be a happy camper!

  • I can go into a apple store and swap sides of my iPhone 5?

    I can go into a apple store and swap sides of my iPhone 5?

    What sides do you mean?

  • MultiThreaded compare and swap question.

    I'v got this assignment and I'm not sure which approach to take. I think I've got it right with my second try, but I was wondering if I could get some sort of verification or something.
    "Use Java monitors to implement the atomic Compare-And-Swap instruction, which has the following effect: CSW(a,b,c): < if (a==c) { c = b; return(0);} else {a = c; return 1;} > (In most concurrency books and papers instructions within angle brackets < > means that everything within the brackets is done in one uninterruptible, atomic action.) "
    Is this right?
    public synchronized int compareAndSwap(Object a, Object b, Object c)
            if ( a.equals( c ) )
                c = b;
                return 0;
            a = c;
            return 1;
        }Or is this?
    public int compareAndSwap(Object a, Object b, Object c)
            synchronized ( a )
                synchronized ( b )
                    synchronized ( c )
                        if ( a.equals( c ) )
                            c = b;
                            return 0;
                        a = c;
                        return 1;
        }Or am I totally off base? I think the latter is right as it prevents the objects themselves from being messed with.

    As far as making it an atomic action, you do that
    with synchronized, BUT more detail might be needed
    about the context in which it's supposed to be atomic
    to know what to sync on.OK, thanks. I was thinking I was crazy or something, but his question is just unclear. I have no idea what he wants and I'm not sure he does either.
    Thanks.

    > Am I trying to do something silly here?
    I do it this way all the time. My testing server is local to
    my development
    LAN, but the MySQL server and database is remote (on the
    remote site). To
    make this work, you would have to make sure that the remote
    server permits
    an external connection. If it does, you should be golden.

  • Zfs cache vs. Physical and swap memory

    On Solaris 10: We are calculating the available physical and swap memories by using these
    @ system calls 'sysconf' and 'swapctl' with appropriate parameters.
    I don'tthink these system calls explicitly take the 'zfs cache' into account.
    Can you please confirm, Or do we have any other command set to include 'zfs cache pool' also.

    Not exactly sure what you are asking - Total VM = Real RAM + swap. The ZFS arc (as well as the UFS cache) competes to get RAM, as does running processes and kernel memory allocation. The arc will not add anything to the Total VM amount.

  • MySql installation and use

    I have purchased a book that teaches the use of MySQL through the Terminal. I have tried installing MySQL several times (both the tar and dmg files) and it doesn't seem to work. I have employed instructions from my book, from the MySQL site, and from other users in these forums. I click on the MySQL icon in the preferences pane and the window pops up telling me that MySQL is running. However, none of the commands I type in terminal, such as "CREATE DATABASE", will work; I just get the "command not found" error message.
    I don't really have any experience using Terminal, and I am assuming that there is some step that the authors of the tips I've tried have left out because it seems obvious to them. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could point me to a *complete and thorough* list of instruction from download to actually typing commands into MySQL and/or instructions to get to a MySQL specific window in Terminal, if there is such a thing.
    Also, perhaps the most important question for me to ask is "Can I use MySQL on my iBook, or does it only work if I actually have a server?".
    Thanks!!

    Before you continue here, please ensure you have a good archive of your boot disk. (When you start trying to install stuff, there is the possibility of perturbing the environment.)
    As for loading MySQL, MySQL is built into Mac OS X Server. No need to install it, unless you need a different version -- and you probably don't want to start down that path until and unless you (really) need to.
    If you have Mac OS X client here (you're posting your question in the server forum), you might want to start out with the [MAMP|http://mamp.info/en/index.php] kit.
    The commands you are trying to enter into terminal are probably expected to be entered into MySQL itself, rather than into the bash shell. Creating the database is usually among most involved steps -- its too bad its one of the first steps required.
    You have some steps needed to get going, and typical sequences (from memory) look like this:
    $ mysql -u DBPrivUser
    mysql> create database DatabaseName;
    mysql> quit;
    The following shows an example of the status command:
    $ mysql -u DbPrivUser -p DatabaseName
    Enter password: DbPrivUserPwd
    mysql> status;
    If you hit errors here, post up which MySQL package you are using (if this isn't Tiger or Leopard server), what commands were used, and what the error message text was.
    As for for complete and thorough documentation, either look at the documentation for whatever package is involved, for another (similar) package (eg: [Drupal|http://www.drupal.org]) or take a look at the [MySQL.com|http://www.mysql.com] web site. Or consider getting somebody in to help out -- this sort of stuff is quite difficult to do remotely; without having a view into what you're doing, and what commands are entered, and what response is posted back from the system.
