Mysql Java how?

Hello, I wonder what what would be the best solution to have a Java application access a mysql database over the internet? I am a beginner, so please bear with me. I tried using a MM.Mysql driver from http://mmmysql.sourceforge.net/ but couldn't get it to work. Can I use servlets? I have full control over the mysql server.
Thanks,
Bertil

I don't know why this keep happening. I am using JCreator (www.jcreator.com) and set the project's classpath to the location of the mm.mysql-2.0.6.1.jar driver. Location of driver is (C:\Program Files\Xinox Software\JCreator LE\MyProjects\mysql\).
Compiling works fine, but executing always brings this exeption. Any ideas?
Unable to load driver.

  • MySQL + Java doesn't work

    I've been trying to get a connection using MySQL and Java without luck, I've been messing with every solution I have found in google without luck. It worked the last time I used mysql + java a few months ago (in Ubuntu) but now I can't even get a connection.
    MySQL works with PHP, MySQL Administrator and CLI but I just can't get it to work with Java.
    Has anybody been able to run Java applications that use JDBC + MySQL in Arch?
    The stack trace I get is like the following and it changes a little bit if I use different versions of the Connector

  • Subtle bug in Deitel & Deitel "Java How to Program" book

    Merry x mas and happy new year, guys.
    I have this applet (which is at the same time runnable and listener) its printed in Deitel & Deitel "Java How to Program" book 3rd ed.
    The program works but as you turn on and off the "suspend" checkboxes some of the threads are not notified, so they go to infinite wait state, deadlock. I couldn't figure out what is wrong or how to fix the problem.. please read the code below, or copy and paste this code to your eclipse, its just one file, then play with the check boxes, some of the threads don't wake up after wait... technically they don't shift from WAITING to TIMED_WAITING state.

    No, notifyAll() is used to tell the threads that we're stopping.... see that it's written in the stop() method of the applet. Eg if the user browses away from our applet we set the array of threads to null and notify them all. So notifyAll() makes sense.Yes, it does make sense there too (!!!!!!!).
    However, I gave it a try with what u suggested, and it didn't work (as expected) .... Apparently you did not really read my suggestion or my explanation. If you had, you'd have expected it to work and it would have worked.
    the problems still remains, some threads are getting in wait state even if their check box is not suspended.Maybe you should add the following code to understand the root cause and solution.
        System.out.println("Thread " + index + " will wait to be notified.");
        wait();
        System.out.println("Thread " + index + " was notified.");
    what could the problem be?Improper use of notify()

  • Deitel, Java How To Program exercise question

    Hi, :)
    I'm new to programming and I'm using the Java How To Program Fourth Edition from Deitel and Deitel as my text. I've run into a problem with Exercise 2.16 Where I'm asked:
    "Write an application that asks the user to enter two numbers, obtains the numbers from the user and prints the sum, product, difference, and quotient of the numbers."
    From that I have written this code:
    // Exercise 2.16
    /* An application that asks the user to enter two numbers, obtains the numbers from the use and prints the sum,
    product, difference and quotient of the numbers. Using the techniques shown in Fig 2.9 */
    //Java extension packages
    import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
    public class Exercise2_16{
         //Main method
         public static void main(String args[]){
         String firstNumber, secondNumber;                          //introduce variables
         int number1, number2, sum, product, difference, quotient;          //introduce variables
         firstNumber=JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter first integer:");     //Create input window
         secondNumber=JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter second integer:");     //Create input window
         number1=Integer.parseInt(firstNumber);                         //String to integer
         number2=Integer.parseInt(secondNumber);                         //String to integer
         //perform operations
         sum = number1+number2;
         product = number1*number2;
         difference = number1-number2;
         quotient = number1/number2;
         //Display results
         JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "The sum is " + sum,
         "The product is " + product, "The difference is " + difference,
         "The quotient is " + quotient, "Results", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);
         //End program
         System.exit(0);
         }//End main method
    }//end class Exercise2_16
    When I compile this code I get an error and I can't figure out why. Any help is really appreciated as I'm stumped and given the simplicity of the app I'm kinda bummed it has me stuck :(.

    I substituted your line and this is the error I'm receiving now:
    F:\jdk1.3\Learning Java>javac Exercise2_16.java
    Exercise2_16.java:32: unclosed string literal
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "The sum is " + sum + ", The product is" + product + ",
    The difference is" + difference + ", The quotient is" + quotient + ", \"Results\", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);
    ^
    Exercise2_16.java:35: ')' expected
    System.exit(0);
    ^
    2 errors
    It doesn't really matter to me if there are returns but maybe for readability there should be and so I learn how to as well.

    So, you are in a class. You are a student, your job is to learn something. Unless your instructor has failed horribly in his/her duty, then you are failing in your duty as a student.
    Your lack of even trying hurts me personally as a life-long student, I find your post ill-advised.

    There is no such exception. What does the error message really* say? No guessing.

  • Java mysql ResultSet - how many rows

    Hi
    As a beginner java dude I'm trying to work with java on my mysql database instead of using perl (which works fine by the way). BTW this is not an apple specific question.
    I have properly managed to connect to my database and executa a query which returns a ResultSet object. By using the next() method I would like to populate an array with the results of my query using a while loop. All of this works fine. One problem persists however. I would like to know how many rows my query has so I can creat my array with the correct number , i.e if the query has 10 rows then the array should be String[] Array = new String[10].
    But i can only loop through the ResultSet once as it appears to be detsroyed after that. I have solved the issue by making two identical statements and I use one with getRow() in a while loop so I can create an array with the correct variables, and the other to loop through and populate the array.
    It seems to me there must be a better way to check how many rows a query returns ... i mean if I take the original query an put it through
    int nr = 0;
    while (rset.next()) {
    nr = rset.getRow();
    String[] Data = new String[nr];
    and then do
    while (rset.next()) {
    int count = rset.getRow();
    --count;
    int idnr = rset.getInt("One");
    String name = rset.getString("Name");
    Data[count] = idnr + " " + name;
    the the last while returns null results.
    How can withdraw the number of rows from the ResultSet and still use that same ResultSet in the last while loop? I have a feeling i'm missing something very elementary here.. but being new thats to be expected.
    Thanks

    Darn, just after I posted this I was struck by lightning and found an answer. The ResultSet isnt destroyed its just that the marker is at the end efter looping through a while loop, so if you want to loop again you have to the the marker to move to the absolute beginning.. thsi can be done using ResultSet.beforeFirst() which nice and neatly pops the marker back to its initial state.
    Sorry for bothering everyone.

  • I have setup JSP & MySQL but how can i Connect it to eche other ?

    I feel sory by asking this qustion but i tried very enough
    100 mile start from 1 mile ^_^
    I have tested JSP files by http://localhost:8080/test.jsp
    and it works very will
    also i have already installd MySQL and i can create databases and tables by http://localhost/phpMyAdmin
    so what i have to do else to connect JSP to MySQL ? , ( if nothing )
    how can i test that MySQL Connected with JSP, so that i can display data from database ?
    Best Regards
    JMalik

    create a java bean, which is just similar to a java class and put the database connection there so you wouldn't have to include that code in all you jsps everytime you connect to the database
    this is for DbConnection.java
    package connection;
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class DBConnection
         private Connection con;
         public DBConnection()
              try
                  Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
                  con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost/yourfolder?user=yourusername&password=yourpassword");
            catch (Exception e)
                 e.printStackTrace();
         public Connection getConnection()
              return con;
         public void close()
              try
                   con.close();
              catch(Exception e)
                   e.printStackTrace();
    }in another bean/class which connects to your database,
    say for example this is SelectUsers.java
    public String[] selectActiveUsers(int id) throws Exception, SQLException
         try
                   con = new DBConnection().getConnection();
                   Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
                   String ins = "<your select statement>";
                            stmt.executeUpdate(ins);
                            con.close();
                   stmt.close();
             catch (SQLException se)
                    System.out.println("SQL Exception: " + se.getMessage() + "not connected");
                    se.printStackTrace(System.out);
         }and in your jsp, instantiate the class
    users.jsp
    SelectUsers su = new SelectUsers();
    String[] users = su.selectActiveUsers(1);got it?

  • MySQL - Java Unable to update

    I am using mysql and when i try to update a table it says....
    java.sql.SQLException: Syntax error or access violation message from
    server: "You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the

    my update query is like this...
    "UPDATE Session SET
    SessionName='"+objSessDet.getTitle()+"' where
    SessionID="+ConfID;No, it isn't. That's a fragment of Java code that generates something that is supposed to be an update query. Print the result of that code to see what the query really is.
    But instead of that, use a PreparedStatement instead of that mess (are those single or double quotes, and how many are there, and are there the right number of them?)PreparedStatement ps = conn.prepareStatement("UPDATE Session SET SessionName=? where SessionID=?");
    ps.setString(1, objSessDet.getTitle());
    ps.setInt(2, ConfID); // Or setString()... use the method that matches the column type
    ps.executeQuery();

  • Mysql java quizz

    Dear friends,
    I want to make an online quiz system using mysql and java.I am new to Java,however not new to mysql.
    Can anyone guide, please.

    Examine the problem, break it up into manageable pieces and then find out how to do each piece in java. For example, the first problem might be...
    How do I write a simple java program?class HelloWorld {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            System.out.println("Hello World!");
    }Here is a link to how to do this (and more besides)

  • Using Java, How can I Update, Add, Delete nodes in XML Files.

    Hi,
    I want to store the student record (like Name, Age, school name, total mark etc.,) as nodes in the XMLfile. Also I should able to Update, Add, Delete any nodes (student record) in the XML file. How can I achieve this...using Java
    I am able to read the content of the xml file using xml-parser. But my problem is
    updating the xml file.
    pls suggest some solutions or links with " example source code"
    Thanks :-)

    There are 2 kinds of XML parsers : SAX and DOM. DOM seems to suit your need. You can use JAXP APIs to add, delete or change nodes or attributes.
    http://java.sun.com/webservices/jaxp/dist/1.1/docs/tutorial/TOC.html provides contents that would satisfy most of the needs.
    To save a DOM modified XML file use java IO APIs to write to the same file from which it was read using a Document object ( doc.getNodeValue() ).

  • [E2010][EWS-XML][JAVA]How to get the properties of meeting rooms in Exchange 2010 using EWS Java API

    When you look at meeting room properties in Outlook 2010, you can see 'City', 'Country/Region' and 'Department' information.
    Is there any way to get this information using EWS Java API?

    Hi Glen,
    I am able to understand what u have said, but do not know how to implement it with meeting rooms....
    If i am implementing
    "Get all appointments between startDate and endDate in the specified folder, including recurring meeting occurrences" in ews-java-api, as you have mentioned above, i am able to get only my appointments from the start date to end date , as i
    have given my email id and password, how to get my organization meeting room details, booked or not.
    static ExchangeService service = new ExchangeService(ExchangeVersion.Exchange2010_SP2);
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
    // TODO Auto-generated method stub
    ExchangeCredentials credentials = new WebCredentials("[email protected]", "zzzz");
    service.setCredentials(credentials);
    try {
    System.out.println("Check");
    service.autodiscoverUrl("[email protected]",new RedirectionUrlCallback());
    } catch (Exception e) {
    // TODO Auto-generated catch block
    e.printStackTrace();
    NameResolutionCollection nameResolutions = service.resolveName("SDB1",ResolveNameSearchLocation.DirectoryOnly, true);
    System.out.println("nameResolutions==="+nameResolutions.getCount());
    for(NameResolution nameResolution : nameResolutions)
    System.out.println("NAME==="+nameResolution.getContact().getDisplayName());
    The above code gives me the output like, the meeting room in my organization with word SDB1 are
    Output:
    nameResolutions===2
    NAME===SDB1- TELCON - 1
    NAME===SDB1-TELCON - 2
     for. eg. I need to know today at what are the appointments in the room SDB1-TELCON2 and who all have booked the room.
    I do not know how to implement for the meeting room can you please help me how to give it.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Files and Streams in java -- How to display successive records

    Hi,
    I developed an application in which I enter name and id in a gui. Each time I enter, the records are added in the sequential file.
    Then I have a button to open that file. It also opens.
    Then I have a button to read the records(which has name and id) in sequential order. Each time I click next button records should be displayed in their respective text boxes. But, only the 1st record is displyed. Then I get IOException. Why am I not able to move to records after 1st record. How could I disply records till EOF is reached.
