N73ME - Features that are lacking

Just thought I would list up here a number of features that I am very surprised are lacking with Nokia's phone and that I hope will get added in firmware updates.
Please feel free to comment and add your own features to this list as it may help provide Nokia with what people want.
1. Recurrent alarm setting for clock - I am extremely surprised that Nokia has not caught on with this yet and I would have expected it to be a basic feature on any phone.
2. Folder based image gallery - Why on earth Nokia decided that the gallery option would display all content in all folders is a little beyond me, so I would ask that when entering the gallery you should be able to choose the folder first before the gallery view opens the content. There is such thing as privacy on a phone even if your showing people images!
3. Stopwatch - I am surprised again to see there is no stopwatch program, my old Nokia 6510 had one, so why not now?
4. Timer - Similar again to the stopwatch program but a feature I have seen in Sony phones which is quite useful to some people, a countdown timer with an alarm at the end.
I will add more to this list as I go along, please add your own.

You can run anything on it if you have 16mb RAM or more anytime... But one app. at a time. I'm not sorry to say, but if you delete all the junk in the phone and clear it.. You'll never reach 32mb RAM. If you're talkin about the n73me.. You got a maximum of 21.9mb to 22.93mb free RAM. AND that's only after "boot up". I just complain alot cause I REALLy use the phone. "power user" stuff. Nobody has anything to worry about, unless you use everything in it, which I do. I wish I had 32mb ram.. Or the the n76's specs on my n73me.. Peace.

I Created a power view in Excel 2013 and uploaded to my Power BI for o365 site.
But when i click on my excel file it opens in browser,After that i click on File tab its showing me two option
1. Save a Copy
2.Download a copy
When i click on save a copy its showing me an warning below
Features that are not supported by Excel in the browser and interactive reports will be removed from the saved copy.
Continue with Save?
If i continue saving it only saves an excel files with data only not the power view which i want to save with applied filters.
Please help me for this

Just to clarify, when you hit the option of Save As Copy, the whole experience goes into a "read-write" mode in Excel services, which currently doesn't support authoring, just consumption of PowerView sheets.
Two mitigations that come to mind:
1. Download the copy (as Brad suggests), rename the file and upload.
2. Use the send to option of SharePoint online, give the file the right target document library (can be the same as source) and rename the file:

PDF file has features that are not supported?!?

Hi All,
I'm using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to create a FORM and then I
submit the form to Acrobat.com. The problem is that when users
follow the emailed link to acrobat.com, they can't enter data into
the form on the website. They have to download it into their local
reader to fill out the form.
This is the actual error message I get:
"This PDF file has additional features that are only
supported in Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader"
What am I missing here? I'm creating a form, in Adobe
Acrobat, that just has a few text fields and couple of checkboxes
on it - that's all there is to it.
Can someone tell me what the unsupported "additional
features" are so that I can disable them before submitting the
document to Acrobat.com?

thanks for posting.
It does not look like you are missing anything really....The
workflow that you've laid out is the proper workflow for working
with Forms and Acrobat9/Acrobat.com.
You cannot edit the pdfs using acrobat.com. Each user will
need to download it, and definitely need to if they want to input
data to it.
Once they then submit their file, you should then see the
updates.

What you are saying makes sense, if the compatibility level is 90 then the old ANSI joins are expected to be rectified.
I wrote a script to check - it's an easy exercise, all you need is to loop through the catalog views and for each SP or scalar function run this command:
set fmtonly on exec <object> set fmtonly on and in the catch block handle the error related to compatibility.
For checkign the views similar thing set noexec on <select top 1 * from view> set noexec off.
This works very fast as none of the code is actually executed.
Caveat thought triggers and table functions. I could not find the way how to check them. so will have to extract the DDLs and just check the text for old ansi joins. Not very reliable, but that's all I can think of at the moment.
Any chance you know how to compile a trigger or table function without running.
For table functions when I tried set noexec on they still asked for parameters, something I was trying to avoid.

Ai Features That are LONG Overdue

Illustrator is now going on 24 years old and the following features really need to be improved, updated, changed what ever phrase your want to label it as it needs to be done.
- Zoom Ratio: Why limit the ration to 6400%? This assumes too much. If I'm building an illustration for example I have some detail within the greater context that is very small and yet I still need to zoom in on it but I run into this ceiling all the time? The only way around it is to copy out the element into a different file, increase size, make the edits needed, reduce size to original and copy back in. This is unexceptable and a major waste of time. You need to at least double the ratio. This limitation is only compounded by the next common build problem with Illustrator.
- Redundant Points: Illustrator is netorious for adding an ungodly amount of unnecessary anchor point on even simple tasks like expanding a stroke, or expanding a width tool shape. It's just sloppy, no nicer way to say it. But even when you shape build using basic shapes and do so with the pathfinder to create even iconic geometric forms illustrator will add in anchor points that either piggy back on each other or are so close to one another that they behave like they are ontop of one another. I say behave because you can't zoom in far enough to tell and trying to select them is an exercise in futility. And adobe evangelist told me one time when discussing this problem that it's because illustrator is too accurate. Sorry but that is BS. FreeHand NEVER had this problem EVER not one time in the 15 years I used it did it create any redundant (seemingly or otherwise) anchor points.
- Inner & Outer Glow Effect: I'm in the habit of always saving before I go to use inner or outer glow effect because it crashes the app so often it's now just routine to save because more than likely it'll take Ai down when I go to use it. Something about a placed image like a tiff that causes this. I've reported this since CS2 and you still haven't fixed it in CC. Actually using a lot of the effects still feels like beta IMO. Just changing a color on an inner feels like your in a B movie version of Inception. Why can't I just select a layer in the Appearance panel and click a color to change? Is it really necessary to bury stuff so deep I need a bathtub to fall back into to create my art?
- Gradient Blends: When I select a color on a gradient blend why doesn't that color become highlighted in the swatches panel? This is another one I've reported since CS2 and you still haven't fixed it in CC? When ever I select anything that relates to a color being changed it should select the current color in the swatches panel by default all the time. When you have hundreds of colors it's very inefficient to the work flow when I have to slow down because your app is too dumb to tell me what color I have selected in a gradient.
- Type: Make the edges of the actual letterforms interactive with content in it's editable font format. For example if I slide a guide over instead of snapping to type box, it snaps to the edge of the letterforms. Or if I align something it aligns with the displayed letterforms not the type box it resides in. I'm always haveing to make a copy, convert to path and use that to align with or snap to than toss it. It wastes time. Type in Ai is already a huge bag of hurt, but this one thing would help alot. At least make it a preference we can choose to turn on or off. Giving the user the chose is always preferred over enforcing something wholesale on all. FreeHand had a shrink wrap setting for type that came close to this and at least made alignment easier.
I'll post more as I recall them.

i keep thinking about getting hold of the last Freehand just to have a play around. i have an older mac at home with 10.6.8 so i think i can still run it. it was a dodo before i started working professionally, unfortunately. does that make anyone feel old? hah

Yesterday I set up a Canon IP3600 to work on a PowerBook G4 running OS 10.4.11. It is a print-only unit. I got the 10.4 drivers off the Canon website before connecting the printer. Many Brother printers still have support for older Mac OS versions.
If you need a multi-function device, it is gettng very hard to find any that support PowerPC Macs (pre-2006) of OSX versions older then 10.6 any more.
As you posted in the PowerPC iMac forum I assume you have one. However, there are some Intel Macs (2006 and newer) still running 10.4. Check "About this Mac" under your Apple menu: if it says you have an Intel processor, you have many more doors open.

In Premiere Pro, you can use the Trim Monitor for that. Kevin Monahan has a great blog post about using the Trim Monitor:

In the timeline, if you use the Ripple Edit Tool (B), the Rolling Edit Tool (N), the Slide Edit Tool (U) or the Slip Tool (Y), then the Program Monitor will give you a two-up or four-up display while you adjust the edit.
When using drag and drop to add a clip or move a clip in the timeline, either with the Command key pressed for an Insert edit or without the Command key pressed for an Overwrite edit, the Program Monitor will display a two-up view to show you the frames involved at the edit point.

Nope. Only for Sequence Markers.

You can find that in the Project Panel by examining the dropdown list under the twirl open button in the Preview area for a selected clip. Read here:

If you've logged comments for a clip in any of the available metadata fields for a clip, then a search in the Project Panel will reveal all instances of any clip that has metadata that matches the search text. Again, you search the Project Panel, not the Timeline Panel.

Cool Features that are Missing from the 2.2 update

Are these proposed features realistic?
1. Universal cut & paste with the the option to search selected text using default search engine.
2. Clickable hypertext from any app including lyrics page of songs.
3. iTunes Media: Being able to view the full title by touching and holding media title (cut off/incomplete titles... is annoying, would like to read the whole title)
4. Landscape text entry for all apps
5. Ability to open Safari links in new windows using multi-touch
6. Google Maps: Streetview, Public Trans info, etc (for iPod touch users)
7. Music search by keyword, artist, song name, playlists

Can't see why the maps should be any different on a touch than on the phone.
As to copy/paste - why do you think I have not paid for an update to v2 yet.

I recently got a 5S, and when I am using the phone, my cheek seems to tap the screen, and calls other people, or mutes, or enables some of the other features that are not shutting down when I am talking to someone. Can someone help, please!

I recently got the iPhone 5S, and when I am talking, my cheek will touch the various buttons on the scene, and I am calling, going mute, or touching the keypad, and such. How can I get the phone screen to stop doing this while I am talking. I have IOS 8. Thank you. Please reply in simple terms, as I am not the best at understanding how to fix things. Thanks again.

First, try a reset to see if that clears it up:
Hold down the home button and the power button together until the screen goes black and the Apple logo appears, then let go of the buttons. This will not cause any data loss and is like a reboot for your phone.

Can Acrobat Pro 9 create pdf forms that are readable by older versions of Reader?

I have just downloaded the Trial of Acrobat Pro 9, and my client now tells me they only have Acrobat 5, and can't open the pdf form I've made in 9. My form uses text fields and checkboxes, tooltips but no validation or calculation. Does anyone know if it is possible to save this form in a way that is backwards compatible with Acrobat 5?
Failing this, does anyone know what version of Pro I need in order to add fields and still allow v5 to open the files?

I did not read your original post carefully. As far as saving a form that is readable in AA5, AA5 should be able to read an AA9 form as long as you did not use any of the new fancy things in it. In the meantime, simply save the form using either Reduce File Size or PDF Optimize with the compatibility set to AA5 or AR5. That process will strip any special issues from the PDF I think. At least that is my assumption. I create PDFs that are AA5 compatible all the time by simply having the properties of the Adobe PDF printer set to AR5 compatibility. As far as the form feature, that is really just a matter of being sure you use features that are AA5 compatible as I have suggested and saving, possibly using one of the two options I have mentioned. In most cases, AR5 will be able to read it even if you do not save in that process, but do not get fancy in the structure.

H.264 export without audio creates files that are not recognized in Quicktime or VLC

Dear all,
I need to generate h.264 files with video only. (short clips for use with a "clickable" catalog on an iPad)
Used the "H.264" category and chose a preset. Unchecked "Audio" so I only get the video exported.
The resulting .m4v file is not playable in Quicktime or VLC or MPEG streamclip.
When I leave audio enabled with the same preset, the file is fine, but as soon as I export without audio, the resulting file is unreadable.
Source material is ProRes 422HQ, audio+video, about 30-40 seconds long.
Any clues?

I'm sorry, probably my question wasn't very clear. Of course I can find some technical info about the iPad...
And of course some of the presets in Media Encoder provide basic starting points for encoding.
But... there is also the first iPad, I couldn't find the specs about it on the Apple site. On everymac.com I found:
Apple reports that the iPad supports "H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats."
So if I want to be compatible with all iPads I need to probably stay under 720p30 with [email protected] for H.264
When I look at

I find (from the example values) that 1280x720@30p is quite near the maximum matrix size. So with 1024x576 I should be ok there. My bandwith of about 2Mbit is also well within range in this case. But what if I want to fill an iPod screen (1024x768) with the highest possible quality video? How do I calculate if this fits the max frame size requirements, where this is expressed in a number of luma samples and macroblocks? What is my max bandwith? The tables says that the "Max video bit rate for video coding layer (VCL) kbit/s" should be <14.000kbps. Does that directly translate to the sliders in my encoding app?
If you look in the table "AVC software implementations" (under Software encoder feature comparison) you can see that some features that are supported in MainConcept, and not supported in Qt. (8×8 vs. 4×4 transform adaptivity, Quantization scaling matrices, Separate Cb and Cr QP control, etc. What are these exactly?)
In Streamclip one can choose to have B-frames or not, in AME there is no such control. Does that mean it always encodes with B-frames? Why would one not want to have B-frames?
A lot of parameters in AME H.264 encoding seem to be set to certain fixed values that are not accessible to the user. Other programs (Sorensen, Telestream) provide the user with access to more parameters. Which parameters in AME are set to what (fixed, non-accessible) values and why?
As I said earlier, Quicktime reports different codecs for what should be the same format but from different encoders. Why? Is there a program that can analyze a H.264 stream and report about it in more detail than VLC/Quicktime?
etc. etc. etc....
If anyone could recommend an online resouce or a book to learn more about the ins and outs of H.264 encoding/decoding that would be great. I have the first edition of Charles Poynton's (brilliant!) book "Digital Video and HDTV", which does talk about MPEG-2 but not H.264. I saw that the second edition goes a bit more into detail about H.264. Does anyone have the second edition? Worth buying just for the relatively small addition about H.264?

How to automate testing of features that require user interaction?

I am currently evaluating a test automation tool (RIATest) for my Flex app. In my app, the user uploads/downloads several files from the server. When I try to create an automation script for the process, I get error #2176 (also copied in the end of the post).
Now, my question is that is there anyway to prevent this from happening? Is there some config file that could be modified to set up an isolated test environment without these security restrictions?
My app uses some features that are only available with Flash 10, so using Flash 9 is not an option (I have understood that these security settings came with Flash 10).

Actually, I installed FP9 to my browser and compiled the app against version 9. Everything went well so far, maybe I'm getting confused with my own software already
Anyway, that got me one step forward. When uploading a file, the user is presented the file browse dialog, which in my knowledge is the operating system specified component. At least RIATest doesn't seem to be able to control this. If someone knows how to handle such case with any test automation tool, please let me know.
