I understand your frustration, but before saying that Nokia is total $hit, wouldn't be easer to check if your unit is ok or not. I have no issues you described, in fact I'm pretty satisfied with N86 allover performance and build quality. Of course, it's far from perfect, has some annoying bugs and glitches, like every other device.

  • N86 Nokia Messaging

Bought a new N86, set up my email and it was so fast I couldn't believe it - BUT it's not working.
People keep telling me to go to  ---> Mailbox Settings >> Advanced Mailbox sett. and config outgoing/incoming. Thet thing is I don't have incoming and outgoing - All I have under Advanced Mailbox sett. is:
    "Port"
    and
    "Secure Connection"
    1. E-mail get's connected but nothing happends! No mails, nothing.
    2. Tried reinstalling Nokia Messaging but when I finish downloading the file and start the install is says:
"an incompatible version of this product is detected and has to be uninstalled first" and quits the install.
    3. I can't get the mail to ask me what to connect to, it automatically connects via my 3G and I want him to ask me every time - Yes I went to Tool >> Settings >> Destinations >> Default Conn. is on "always ask".
I'm pretty sure that problem 1+3 have a direct connection to problem 2.
Did Nokia mess up the Messaging system in the N86? Is that a BIG **bleep** software bug?
What is the solution? What is happening to Nokia?

The native e-mail service (intellisync) can be found under Menu - Applications - Internet - E-mail. After creating your e-mail account, you must go to settings - <e-mail account name> - Account settings. Here you'll find three options: what to sync, when to sync, account infos.
    What to sync:
    -E-mail sync: activated
-Inbox settings: Hide articles older than .. (if there's already checked something like 1 month, and you don't have any new/unread mails, the inbox will show up empty, so set this according to your needs).
    Account info:
    - Make sure that the access point is set properly.
    This should do it.

  • N86/Nokia Messaging - is there another way?!

    Hi there,
I'm setting up email on an N86, and it's using Nokia Messaging. Do I have to use this? My mailbox is hosted on Google Apps, which supports IMAP IDLE, so I was wondering if I could just go direct.
      Thanks in advance,
    Toby

hi, I tend to just use standard messaging clieny, and don't use Nokia messaging, just go to settings in messaging and define  mailbox using E-mail and my email address.
    Works for me !

  • Nokia 5800 defect?

    Hi,
I just wanted to update my Nokia 5800 Firmware (T-mobile brand) from 2.0 to 2.1
But while it was updating, it suddenly crashed and my phone went out. I turned it on again but it just showing me a white screen and nothing happens. I tried everything to turn it off but it still showing me the whitescreen. So i pulled out de battery and put it back in. Now when I turn the phone on, it keeps vibrating without showing me something. It just vibrate for around a minute and then went out again.
    So what to do now?
    Kudos!

    try the last option
With all these operations I recommend you TAKE OUT MEMORY CARD and DO A BACK UP OF YOUR STUFF!!!
    1. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data)
Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 12345
    2. *#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)
    3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
hard reset - hold the following buttons *, 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. ) For Nokia N97 (unofficial version but works) is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE while holding the power button. Again do not let go until you see the handshake screen.
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.
You know what I love about you the most, the fact that you are not me ! In love with technology and all that it can offer. Join me in discovery....

  • N86 camera lens defect?

First post ever here, will try to make it clear. Thanks for understanding..
I think that the camera lens on my N86 is defect or that there's something wrong with the software; without exaggerating, 8 out of 10 photo's I make at night (with flash) are blurry and totally unclear. Even when trying really hard to hold the phone still I have the same results. Does anyone else experience the same?
Daytime pics are spot on, nothing to complain about.
    Software version is 21.006
    Please help...

Hi there, I have noticed that night time/indoor low light is disappointing and grainy.  I too have v21 software upgrade and still not happy that the original v11 focus square for the centre of the screen has been replaced with an off centre where ever it chooses to focus point not good for a flagship camera...

  • Nokia Pirated Phones

I contacted Nokia early this year with an idea that since most countries had more than one network, it should consider a dual sim-card phone model. The response was negative. I was at the time using a Chinese nameless dual sim card phone with very elementary software and poor functionality. That phone was stolen a week ago and I was surprised to find a dual sim-card Nokia N95 phone. Touch screen, T-flash, MT 6225 Modem but, wait, it is not a NOKIA it is a NOKLA (with L in small letter). The manual is atrocious. The descriptions of the functions haphazard, the English is terrible; the manual is a disaster.
However, the phone itself passes very well for a Nokia for a first time user of Nokia. The functionality is better than the previous nameless (communication – it was called). It has a touch screen, powerful audio facilities – with the output serving those around the user much better than the user him/herself (it has three speakers behind the phone against one next to the user’s ear), charges using a USB port in power, car and computer, comes with two batteries and basic headphones. Its modem is not supported, and the computer cannot easily identify the manufacturer (the previous nameless was using Phillips technology).
In all, Nokia has concentrated on bringing a number of previously high end phone facilities to the basic phone. Cameras to as low as 6230 series, radio, internet surfing (with the help of service providers) and has thus afforded people who live on as little as 20 dollars a day to own a modern phone. While, a number of USD 2,000 a month earners are looking for better phones (black berry level) which Nokia has provided in the N series and above; there are several managers (sales, technical and executives) who do not want to carry two, three or four hand sets at a time. In some of these countries, networks are confined to towns and very small regions or highways. One town has network A and the next network B and so on.
The Chinese are going to continuously erode the market in this customer segment. The nameless cost me USD 350 a year ago and this “N95” as they refer to it in their manual, cost me USD 270. With better functionality and reduced prices this is a market in which the Chinese are doing far much better Nokia. However, the technology is not supported, there is no continuity – if I lose this particular handset, the next Chinese I get could be far better but I cannot tell some one to buy the same handset for me the next time S/he is in China. They will have moved on!!!
Nokia has mastered the lower end market and serves different interests in the developed countries (market), but it the developing countries, ironically with their low per capital incomes who are buying phones in all shapes and sizes. The more advanced the better. In these mass-product markets where copyright laws are simply impossible to enforce and customers are yearning for better but cheaper, Nokia may have to re-think its strategy along Toyota rather than get stuck in the paradigm of GM.

    grschinon wrote:
In any event, they are using Nokia's image to promote their own products, thus making money out of the situation and bringing the real Nokia's name into disrepute in the process. In most countries this is illegal and called "trademark infringement". China doesn't care about that and allows its criminals to operate with impunity.
Rip-off artists in China can operate without repercussions, true. Is the situation any better in India? I'm asking because today's (11 Mar 2010) Times of India (a national newspaper, BTW), in the edition sold in Goa, carries an ad "naaptol hot deals for readers of the times of india", for an "i5800 ExpressMusic Phone". The image is blurred, but as far as I can make out, on the front of the phone, it says "XpressMusic", which is a Nokia registered trademark -right?
There's no Nokia or similar logo visible... though it is so eerily identical to the real thing that I wonder if these people grabbed a photo of an actual N5800 and digitally erased the Nokia brand name... and are actually selling a far worse-looking phone.
The online ad is at  if you care to take a look. The tech specs are nowhere near the real 5800XM, (making the features-for-cash-paid ratio swing very much in favor of the 5800) but it's the total rip-off of the design, look, feel, and apparently even the UI, which is really annoying. If the Chinese want to compete, they should be able to do so with their own brand names and their own designs, instead of cloning Nokia phone designs.
After a lot of Googling and on-Nokia-site searches, I was unable to find any page that let me report this probable IP infringement, which I found surprising. Doesn't Nokia care about its IP being infringed by rip-offs like this being sold in a HUGE market like India? Anyway, I'm venting my ire by making this post :-) If Nokia cares about defending its trademarks and IP against rip-offs in a huge market like India... they should jump into action!
    Hmm... some more:
Looks like the Nokia 5800 is a very popular phone! :-P
    Cheers

  • Nokia N8:Could not personalize Nokia Tune ringtone

    It's been 2 months I'm using N8 & I like N8 very much.
But I was surprised to check that you cannot assign Nokia Tone to contact if default tone in current profile is not Nokia Tone.
Also in Power Save mode though I have not selected mute phone in 'Turning Control' call gets muted when mobile is turned upside down.
I thought Nokia may have fixed this problem in software update 013.016 but it's not been fixed.
    Waiting for Reply.

I can't get that to work either. I just bought my phone ad was ready to return it.

  • Nokia N95-1 - Main Camera & Accelerometer Problems...

Over on our forums, N95users.com/forum, there is a steady increase in members experiencing these problems where their main camera, and accelerometer do not work as they should.
This is with the N95-1 model.
Several members have reported that since upgrading their handsets firmware to V30, they lost the use of their main camera, and when enabling ASR, (Auto Screen Rotation) the phone either freezes, or crashes, and ends up going round in a continuous loop, with the only way to resolve the issue is to remove the battery, as trying to switch off the device does not work.
At first, when I first started reading about members experiencing this issue, I assumed, that these members may of dropped their N95 at some point, causing hardware damage to the Accelerometer, which we know the main camera uses also, thus resulting in the combination of the two issues.
Now that there are more several registered members experiencing these problems after upgrading their firmware to either V30, or V31, not to mention many other owners no doubt who are not registered, I can only post here in the hope that someone in the know at Nokia may read this, and investigate the issue further, and try and resolve it in a future firmware release.
Its clearly a firmware related problem, hence my posting here on behalf of all the members of our forums who have posted for help, and advice with these issues.
I will link this thread within N95users.com and try, and get as many members to post up in here too, in the hope they will be heard.
If you own an N95-1, and also have experienced these problems as detailed above, please reply in this thread please.
    Thanks

Own an N95.? Join us over on www.N95users.com/forum

Hi there! I've manage to solve my problem! I've bought the back camera (of a N95-2) and the front camera and installed them on my N95-1. And now works fine.
I've noticed that I couldn't hear the click associated with the opening of the shutter. So I knew there was something wrong with the back camera. I saw the opportunity of nice deal on E-Bay, of N95-2 5Mpx camera, and it’s the same for the N95-1. I’ve got it on the phone and the accelerometer and the back camera worked perfectly. But the front camera continued not to work, it appeared 9999 photos left (or something like that) and I couldn’t see an image. I’ve bought a new one, from E-bay, also, and now everything in the phone works perfectly for the past few weeks.
Note that I’m using the 31.0.17 firmware. But this is kind of strange, because both cameras stopped working after firmware update. I don’t know if they were damaged during the update process. For now I’ll stick to this firmware leaving updates alone.
Best Regards, and hope this info can help anyone!
PS: I’m Portuguese so, sorry for my bad English.

  • Nokia worried networks will reject selling n900 be...

I know this is a user forum, but I'd like to make this thread a bit of a stand with Nokia..
You (Nokia) may be worried that networks won't like the fact they can't mess with the N900 operating system, but this is in my opinion, the best news I've heard in ages! I am a huge fan of Maemo (having owned 3 different Nokia tablets) and I would be mortified if a network or anyone fiddled with the OS.
Think of this as your iphone opportunity.. No network customises the iphone and I think that is a strong plus for apple and helps them provide a consistent feel for their product.. I'd love to see this approach applied to the N900 and infact many more Nokia products.
I've only bought Nokia handsets unbranded since the 7650 was released, I don't believe in network fiddling and it is fairly clear it causes serious problems for the educated user (see why people are moaning about the limited release of v12 firmware for the N97). I will be pre-ordering my N900 the day the London Flagship store opens its pre-order list because I know it will not be tampered with and will give a decent "as nokia intended" user experience!
Don't buckle to network pressure! The N900 has already generated "ooooooohhhmg I want one" noise in my circle of friends to the likes I've not seen in ages.. This forum is buzzing with "want it" posts. Don't let the networks screw it up!!
I'd just like to say, I'm behind you on this one and I hope many others are too!
    networks may reject n900

It means its not going to be what Nokia are ultimately aiming for.. but put it this way, when they DO get the platform they were aiming for, would they stop?
The 770's life was cut short due to its very limited flash and to a certain extent other hardware.. The N800 and N810 have both been cut short because Maemo 5 won't run on them.. These things happen..
Unlike and end of life Symbian phone, there is an alternative operating system called Mer that is in development by the open source community that will run on older handsets.. So, even if Nokia give up on the N900 two years from now, you still have choices..
I recon, the N900 will be supported from some time, though.. and from the sounds of things they may even bring new features to the table.. Plus point would be, if the don't let networks interfere, you won't have to wait for networks to "approve" firmware before it is released That is just fantastic!

sir pls make available photoshop for nokia symbian belle pls accept my request

    Hi Sagar,
The Nokia may not be compatible currently because of not meeting the system requirements.
    Here are the requirements:

Support on 7" devices is a common feature request. Here is a link:

You might add your vote if the Nokia is a 7" device or create a new one if it doesn't really apply.

  • THIS NEED'S SORTING NOKIA! [N97]

since i first seen this phone on a youtube video about 8 month's ago i was amazed at how stylish/powerful this phone was, now 8 month's later i'm on my second handset! my first one decided to lock up so bad i had to take it back to the shop and replace it, the lady at phones4u said she'd had 10 back within the first day of sale...GO NOKIA!
from reading this forum there's several issue's with the "flagship device" that need sorting! feel free to add your personal experience's with this topic.
1: widget's loading at "start-up"  seem's to take forever! thing's like facebook, a.p new's accuweather and bbci player they all take FOREVER to load!
2:facebook application has bin a bug since i switched my device on, im sure very N97 user's had a "script error" weather it's to restart their handset or can't directly upload picture's to their profile this need's sorting.
3:camera len's getting scratched im sure their allready aware of this but the n97 has a technical design fault where the len's shutter's collect's dust particle's which gather between the len's and the shutter, when slid this leave's deep scratches in the hanset's camera.
4:unable to view photo's that have been taken by the user, a lot of the forum's have been using their hanset's to take picture's , once taken  the user cant find them in their "photo's"  they can only find them in "file manager"
5:multiple app's is another issue i feel wrong with the n97, i know there's no update to solve this soon as the N97 had poor RAM  but with widget's on the homescreen and then streaming music wirelessly through bluetooth i get a lot of pauses in the music and the phone lock's up.
6:home media server is one thing i loved about my N95 8B and when looking through the N97 it's completely dissapeared! this could be sent in a future firmware update but what a good thing to leave off the handset!
7: 32GB storage is great for my files, picture's music adobe file's vid's but by the time i had 15 of the 32GB filled the phone was ridiculously slow! if ANY user use's the phone to it's full 32GB potential then please write how long it take's to load file's app etc.
8: charging the N97 is another issue, allthough i havn't experienced this some user's place the phone on charge using the wall charger and somhow the hanset starts charging and then stop's allthoug the phone is still connected.
9:network coverage is poor on the n97 regardless of being in duel mode OR gsm, i know this all depend's on your provider aswell but i have the N97 on vodafone and an N95 on the same network and somehow my n95 allways has more coverage!
10:backlight not activating this was a problem with the N95 but when you slide the locked phone into the QWERTY keyboard  the phone unlock's but the backlight doesnt light up!
feel free to add more to this post i havnt posted on this forum much but i'd like to get a few N97 user's to write their personal issue's on this post and hopefully nokia may read this and help all these use's with a £500 handset which has too many bug's! im aware it took near on 70 update's to get my n95 where it is today but i feel like the N97 shipped as a BETA and this suck's!
oh and nokia i favoured this phone over the iphone 3GS not a great word to mention on this forum i know but being honest i'm kind of regretting it allready.

The problem we have here is that all your problems have been experienced and previously posted by other users.  Could you not have added your comments to an existing thread?  This forum is getting so bunged up with repeat threads over problems it is getting beyond a joke.
By the way, go easy on your apostrophes, it'll save you a lot of typing if you don't use so many! ;-)
Regardless of my comments above, I sympathise with your difficulties.  I haven't really had any trouble at all with my current N97 9although the first one had problems so got it swapped) so to be fair, I am quite happy.  Yes, some things niggle me but we have to wait until the next firmware release which is supposed to be late Q3 or early Q4, so not long now.  Hang in there.

  • Phone software updating with Nokia Ovi Suite

    Hi!
I'd like to update my E65 software using Ovi Suite. I know the newest phone software for E65 is 3.0633.69.00  and my phone has 2.0633.65.01 software. The problem is that Ovi Suite still claims that the phone software is up-to-date. Any suggestions!?

First off, Ovi Suite is not currently showing your phone as supported. If it came on a CD with the phone, Nokia may have later determined that there are some compatibility issues. Uninstall it and install Nokia PC Suite.
As to the update, Nokia dose not release the same update in all markets at the same time. North America seems to be the last market they release to. Wherever you are, you may have to wait. Worse, if you bought the phone from your cell service provider, you have to wait until they approve the update. Nokia has no control over that.
If I have helped you with your problem in some way, please take a little time and hit the kudos button in my post. Without your feedback, I don't know if I am being helpful or should just be put out to pasture.

    I am using nokia 701
Moderator's note: We have provided a subject-related title to help other forum users easily view and respond to this post.

    Hi Ericsimons18,
The reasons you don't see an update yet is because either your phone may be branded (e.g. has Vodafone or other network opeator specific customisations for the firmware), or possibly a country variant (i.e. Nokia provides the firmware, and your country's Nokia may not have got around to making specific country requirements or custom apps for your region/country). If you have a branded handset (you can usually tell by your phone having network operator's wallpapers and custom apps), then it is best to check with your network operator to their firmware update schedule, and whether you will be receiving the update or not. Otherwise, contact your local Nokia Care point directly from here at
