Native Recompilation of database

Hi,
I am trying to recompile my complete database in Native mode using dbmsupgnv.sql and utlrp.sql.
Since my database is small sized, I am not getting any performance implications in the NCOMP recompilation process. Since the invalidation of program units and recompilation is involved, I am bit careful on the time taken for the complete activity. I want to understand for a large database (with more than 1000 schema objects), how much time the recompilation process will take?
I have searched through the web but couldn't find any satisfactory answer for this. Thanks

  • Why no native restore database task in SSIS Toolbox

    Hi,
    I'm a little confused as to why there is no "Restore Database Task" in the SSIS Toolbox when editing a package in BIDS/SSDT?
    We are provided with a native "Back Up Database Task" but no corresponding restore component. Searching the web shows that most developers are using "Execute T-SQL Task" to restore a database, which is fine.
    But why have half the a solution to the backup/restore activity in the toolbox?
    Thanks,
    Gary

    Hi Gary,
    this is a user forum, not Microsoft SQL Server/SSIS developer's team forum or so.
    If you have a suggestion then file it under the suggestions area of
    MS Connect.
    In my view having the restore via Execute SQL Task suffices.

  • MS Access - Failed to retrieve data from the database

    Hello,
    I've developed a quite complex report (CR XI) from a SQL Server 2005 database. The report contains a number of inner and outer joins and a subreport.
    I have a duplicate copy of the database held in MS Access. If I attempt to change the datasource location to the MS Access database, I'm unable to run the report and get the following error:
    Failed to retrieve data from the database.
    Details: ADO Error Code: 0x80040e14
    Source: Microsoft JET Database Engine
    Description: Join expression not supported.
    SQL State: 3000
    Native Error: -540806602 (Database Vendor Code: -540806602)
    By changing every outer join to an inner, the report pulls in data but obviously not what is required. It seems as though it doesn't like the outer joins.......
    Would this be in some way due to limitations with the JET database engine?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dom

    Hi Aditya joshi,
    Thanks for the reply.
    Unfortunately my query doesn't contain any FULL OUTER joins, just INNER and LEFT OUTER's.
    I've enclosed a parred down version of the SQL:

  • How to Install emacs, openssh and start oracle database and get a connect?

    As suggested by another poster, I installed the prebuilt appliance at [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/community/developer-vm/index.html] and [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/virtualbox/downloads/index.html] with the intent of running oracle database in a linux vm as a guest on windows 7 and connecting to it using JDBC from the windows host.
    This is running but I don't know how to install other stuff. I tried "sudo yum install openssh" and "sudo yum install emacs" and "sudo service sshd status" and none of these worked (it could not find these packages). I could not get apt-get or app-get or aptget to work either. I was hoping that "uname -a" would tell me if this was fedora or debian or something else but no luck. What command do I use to learn the distro name?
    How do I make ifconfig tell me what the ip address so I can use "scp" and "ssh" to get into the box? Ok, /sbin/ifconfig works and I see there is only a loopback address. Ack! How do I create a socket so I can ssh into this little beastie?
    How do I disable the firewall or (better yet) punch holes in it so I get use JDBC and ssh, scp and samba from windows 7?
    I tried firing up the SQL Developer 3.1 and getting a test connection with username and password of "oracle" with no luck. How do I get a test connection to work?
    How do I determine if the database is running? If not, how do I start it and stop it and restart it?
    Thanks
    Siegfried

    There is no "oracle" account native to the database itself. This is just the default account that owns the application. Log on as oracle/oracle to the OS. (OEL) You can change the passwords of the sys and system account by setting your $ORACLE_HOME and $ORACLE_SID. Default SID is orcl on a database install. Also set a path to the oracle binaries in the form of $ORACLE_HOME/bin.
    Then sqlplus / as sysdba
    Change passwords of sys and system using the following example.
    ALTER USER SYS IDENTIFIED BY [password];
    ALTER USER SYSTEM IDENTIFIED BY [password];
    The supplied appliance runs oracle enterpirse linux. Not debain or fedora.
    Why do you need "emacs"?
    I haven't personally load this appliance with Virtual Box but there has to be a readme file somewhere that details all the passwords and etc.

  • DBCharEncoding UTF8 and  NATIVE on the one machine

    I'm trying to run two oracle lite databses on the same windows machine.
    First of the databases has been created with no DBCharEncodeing setttings set in polite.ini, second Database was created with DBCharEncoding set to UTF8.
    My Problem:
    If I the ploite.ini file looks as follows:
    [All Databases]
    DBCharEncoding=UTF8
    SuggestedSharedAddress=10270000
    I can Login to the second database created as UTF8-DB. But I'm not able to login to the old Database anymore.
    If I the ploite.ini file looks as follows:
    [All Databases]
    DBCharEncoding=NATIVE
    SuggestedSharedAddress=10270000
    I'm able to login to both databases but UTF8 isn't supported anymore.
    Question:
    Is it possible to set the DBCharEncoding-parameter per database? The two databases have different DatabaseIDs.
    What I'm looking for is something like this:
    [Databases Id=300]
    DBCharEncoding=NATIVE
    SuggestedSharedAddress=10270000
    [Database Id= 301]
    DBCharEncoding=UTF8
    SuggestedSharedAddress=20270000
    Is this possible? Or is there an other way to set two different DBCharEncoding values?
    Thanks for your advice.
    Kind regards
    Oli Schmid

    You can do this as long as you install them in different Oracle homes.

  • Querying Multiple databases on Azure SQL

    Does anybody know if there is a way to query multiple Azure sql databases in a query?
    I have tested the query on a standard sql server I have setup here and that works fine.
    I believe Azure does not support cross database queries and you have to do an elastic database query.  Any ideas how this works?
    This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community

    Hello. We currently have a database cluster that has a WSUS database on it.  We wanted to setup another WSUS server in our environment, is this possible?  I have read some posts saying that there was a 1 to 1 for WSUS DB to SQL Instance
    but those were from 2008 and 2011 and I am wondering if it is possible today.  If not, what would be the recommendation?  Another SQL Instance or just use the Windows Internal Database.
    There is still a limitation of 1 WSUS to 1 SQL Instance, because the database name is hardcoded to SUSDB. To use multiple WSUS servers on that same cluster will require the installation of an additional instance.
    If that additional server is destined to be a downstream server, though, I would recommend just using the native Windows Internal Database on the local system.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 - Native SQL backup

    HI Experts,
    I got native SCCM 2012 SP1 SQL backup content (But no site server backup). Can i still restore the SCCM 2012 SP1 primary site server. Please advice
    Regards, Pratap

    With Configuration Manager 2012 SP1+, it is possible to recover a site (secondary sites don’t count) using a standard, native SQL Server database backup.
    "Configuration Manager can recover the site database from the Configuration Manager backup maintenance task or from a site database backup that you perform by using another process. For example, you can restore the site database from a backup that is performed
    as part of a Microsoft SQL Server maintenance plan. Starting in Configuration Manager SP1, you can restore the site database from a backup that is performed by using System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager (DPM). For more information,

    Hi Don
    This advice helped me a lot! Thank you for your help!
    The CR2008 connection to CCX Database could be done successfull.
    It might be a helpfull info for others with a similar problem:
    Creating a DSN according "Cisco Unified Contact Center Express Historical Reporting Administrator and Devolper Guide 7.0(1)"
    (Wich is based on Crystal Report XI).
    With the following exeption:
    In Step Creating Custom Reports , Befor you Begin, copy files from Cisco CCX Historical Reports folder on Cisco CCX HR client system to C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Crystal Reports 11 folder has to change to:
    copy files from Cisco CCX Historical Reports folder on Cisco CCX HR client system to C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86.
    The file crw32.exe resides in this folder and not in the folder explained in the Cisco Guide.
    Therefore the shorcut to crw32.exe properties, explained in the Cisco guide, has to be as follows:
    "C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\launchHRC.exe" crw32.exe
    (Quotation marks included, blank between launchHRC.exe" and crw32.exe.
    With this shortcut CR 2008 will start together with Cisco Historical Report Appl. on CCX server.
    Starting only 2008 will result in the following error message:
    Login failed.

    As explained in the Cisco Guide after creating a DNS the test will fail by clicking Test Data Source.

  • Apex Native PLSQL Compile?

    Hi
    I am considering changing my databases to native PLSQL compilation..

  • Creating a string with hiearchical data

    This is being done in Crystal 8 will all updates applied.
    I have a database with records that are linked to a series of "folders" that are hierarchical in nature as shown below:
    Folder 1:
         Folder 1.1
              Folder 1.1.1
    Folder 2
        Folder 2.1
    All of the folders can have data records attached to them.
    The database represents the folder structure in a table with the following attributes:
    Folder ID   (integer)
    Folder Name (String)  (such as "Folder 1"
    Folder Parent ID (integer)
    (other non-related fields)
    If the folder is at the root level, then the value in Folder Parent ID is 0, otherwise, it is the Folder ID of the parent folder.
    I need to be able to create a string field that displays the path for any given folder that I can insert into a group header or footer, or into a report header if the report deals with records in a single folder.  Desired format for the  string is:
    "Folder 1> Folder 1.1> Folder 1.1.1"
    I need to be able to display at least 6 levels of folder indentation.
    I have tried several ways to create a formula that will reliably produce the desired string, and can get close, but cannot completely address the problem.  My most successful approach was to put multiple instance of the table into the report and link the Folder Parent ID of one level to the Folder ID of the next level down and then use the data to build the string with a formula like this:
    Local StringVar Result := {portfolio_master.portfolio_name};
    local stringvar ExitLoop := "1" ;
    if  ExitLoop = "1" then
        Result := {portfolio_master_1.portfolio_name} + "> " + Result
    else
        ExitLoop := "0";
    if {portfolio_master_1.parent_id} NE 0 AND ExitLoop = "1" then  // NE replaces Crystal not equal symbol which will not show
        Result := {portfolio_master_2.portfolio_name} + "> " + Result
    else
        ExitLoop := "0";
    if {portfolio_master_2.parent_id} NE 0 and ExitLoop = "1" then
        Result := {portfolio_master_3.portfolio_name} + "> " + Result
    else
        ExitLoop := "0";
    if {portfolio_master_3.parent_id} NE 0 and ExitLoop = "1" then
        Result := {portfolio_master_4.portfolio_name} + "> " + Result
    else
        ExitLoop := "0";
    if {portfolio_master_4.parent_id} NE 0 and ExitLoop = "1" then
        Result := {portfolio_master_5.portfolio_name} + "> " + Result
    else
        ExitLoop := "0";
    Result;
    This formula works so long as the folder in question is exactly 5 levels deep.  Changing the nature of the links(inner join, left outer join etc.) between the instances of the table in the Database Expert changes the data that is visible, but I can't find a combination that will show ALL of the needed information for all of the folders.
    I understand that this is a brute force approach, and that there must be a different way to skin the cat.  My preference would be to "walk the tree" with a loop structure, but I don't see any way to do the needed data look up within the loop.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    I have been working to adapt the code provided above to my application.  Although I have worked with Crystal for quite a while, this is the first time that I have attempted to use SQL in Crystal... and it is just not working.. probably because I am no doing something very basic.
    Here is  the code as currently set up in the SQL Formula Editor.  Only major difference from the code provided above is that the ID fields are integers instead of strings, and the field that I want to print out is a string field separate from the ID fields....  I have substituted the field names from the table I am referencing for the ones in the code above.  The table that I am using has been selected using the Database Expert.
    DECLARE @Value int, @pf int, @FolderPath VarChar(MAX)
    SET @Value = "portfolio_master"."portfolio_id"
    SELECT @pf = "portfolio_master"."parent_id" FROM portfolio_master WHERE "portfolio_master"."portfolio_id" = @Value
    SET @FolderPath = "portfolio_master"."portfolio_name"
    WHILE @pf <> 0
    BEGIN
    SET @Value = @pf
    SELECT @pf = "portfolio_master"."parent_id" FROM portfolio_master WHERE "portfolio_master"."portfolio_id" = @Value
    SET @FolderPath = "portfolio_master"."portfolio_name" + ' > ' + @FolderPath
    END
    SELECT @FolderPath AS FolderPath
    When I test the SQL statement it errors out on the very first statement (the DECLARE statement).  If I substitute a different statement in front of the DECLARE statement, it errors on that statement.
    Here is the error that I get back. The database is using MS SQL Server.
    Error in compiling SQL Expression:
    Failed to retrieve data from the database.

    just a thought but the database does not go offline ( for backup or any other reason) overnight

  • Failed to open the connection. Error in the Designer when copying ...

    I have two different systems I am developing an application on.
    I copy the entire directory from one system to the other. Both systems have the same environment:
    Visual Studio 2010
    Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 (the production release, or I think it is the vesion is 13.0.2.0 is the version on the assemblies)
    SQL 2008 R2
    Today, I started adding Crystal reports to this VS solution. I have a reportdriver class that exports all the reports to an HTTP Stream, but we can sit that aside for now. The problem I am having is strictly with the integrated designer.
    I have a bunch of existing reports written for an old Sybase databse. I have ported them to SQL and the table structure matches. I simply add the report to my project, point it to the new datasource (using "Set Datasource Location" - OLE ADO SQL) and then preview the report to be sure it runs.
    I am just using "localhost" as my server name for the OLE connection so I...in theory... don't have to change the data source to view it on the other system. Both systems have SQL 2008 R2 installed locally. For my login credentials, I use SQL Security and use the same database login/password on both development machines andthe production server.
    Today, I copied my entire project to the other PC (as I do almost every day).. When I open any of the reports (in VS) and try to preview them I get:
    Failed to open the connection.
    Details: ADO Error Code: 0x80004005

    Description: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect().]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
    SQL State: 08001
    Native Error: 17 [Database Vendor Code: 17]
    I can only guess that I am using two different OLE ADO drivers on the two systems or there is something embedded in the rport or somewhere in my solution that "knows" I am not really on the same system that I initially set them up on and previewd them with.
    Am I on the right track? Any idea how I can fix this? Obviously, I don't want to have to setup the datasource for every report in my application (if I do that, the report works) when I copy it from the development to the production server.
    I am in a real bind here and under a fast aproaching deadline. Any help is much appreciated!!!

    Don't use localhost as your server name. It's a reserved name and should not be used in code.
    Try this also [Kbase |http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_bi/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes%7B6163636573733d36393736354636443646363436353344333933393338323636393736354637333631373036453646373436353733354636453735364436323635373233443330333033303331333533353333333433363339%7D.do] SAP Note 1553469 - How to enable Database logging in Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010

    Please help me where I am making mistake.
    Thanks

    1) I have created single node standard database called mydb in /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1 home (hostname linux1)
    2) installed crs and asm on linux1 and linux2 and shared storag on ASM(which external HD running ieee1294 cards and ports) . no database is created on linux1 or linux2
    3) I want to convert mydb to RAC DATABASE called mydb1 instance on linux1 and mydb2 on linux2 machine respectively.
    4) copied and modifed xml as you see above called ConvertTomydb.xml to $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory
    5) when I run
    $rconfig ConvertTomydb.xml from $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory , i get the following error
    <ConvertToRAC>
    <Convert>
    <Response>
    <Result code="1" >

    <ErrorDetails>
