Image map links not working in all browsers
Hi, I develop HTML marketing emails once a week and my boss
has recently informed me that some, not all, of the image mapping
links do not work in all browsers or emails i.e. MacMail, Opera,
Safari, etc. He's positive there's something in Dreamweaver that
makes the links universally accommodated no matter what email/web
browser you use, but I haven't been able to find a solution as of
yet.
Any help on this would be appreciated, thanks!
:music;Let's start with the least critical issue. Your boss and his
boss are
simply wrong. An HTML link is just an HTML link, whether
created in DW or
in Notepad.
Now, on to the meat. When you upload this page to the web, do
the links
work? And when you say that they don't work, what do you
mean? Do you mean
that when you click on them, you are not taken to the linked
page? Which
links are not working?
Finally, why do you have your mapped image also within an
anchor tag?
<a href="
http://www.beyondthewall.com/xcart/giftcert.php"><img
src="Slice.jpg" width="263" height="58" border="0"
usemap="#Map" /></a>
Is that the one where the link doesn't work?
Can you post a link to this page on the web, please?

I have just coded a horizontal nav bar for a site with CSS rollover effects using a:hover and a: focus effects. There are no images, just HTML and CSS. The layout works beautifully in IE 6 - 8, Safari for Windows, Opera for Windows...and Firefox 3.X but behaves poorly in Firefox 4. I've hardly ever had problems with FF before. :(
Here's the menu: http://sddlr01.hottubretailer.com/TestNav2.html
The rollovers extend below the height of the background div and the extra padding on the first and last li tag don't display correctly either. The page passes WebDeveloper toolbar CSS and HTML validation as well.
This is making me batty! Any help deeply appreciated!
Thanks.
All CSS code is in the page for debugging purposes.I do not understand what you mean with "the rollover will extend the full width of the background"

Hroizontal Nav bar not working in IE
I have spent a lot of time setting up a spry horizontal navbar on a mac viewing it in Safari and Firefox.
It has been challenging but it seemed to be working. Now I am checking it on a Windows machine, Firefox still works but IE is not working.
On Windows in IE8 : The menu bar stacks in a big pile of full length center jusitfied menu buttons? the submenus are all left aligned but they do function.
In compatibility mode they disappear all together.
The margins are also off, the IE seems to match more accurately what I am seeing in dreamweaver ( i have had a really hard time center justifying the menu bar even with all the directions and code snippits, but the point is the variation and not matching FireFox or safari.
What am I doing wrong?
Site: waiting to fix this to go "live"
Compare the sites below in Firefox and IE8 to see the problem.
http://www.danceconnectionpaloalto.com/DRNewSite.com/index
and same problem on my second level page:
http://www.danceconnectionpaloalto.com/DRNewSite.com/Etiquette.html
Anyone have any ides? I see other spry nav bars working in IE8 I hope there is a fix for this.sorry about incorrect links here are the real ones.

Can You Help with an iWeb Nav Bar Not Displaying Problem?
Hi Everyone,
I have had a website that I created with iWeb and have successfully hosted with me.com (Mobile Me) for the past 8 months. I added a new page yesterday and ever since then, the Nav Bar has stopped appearing on any browser. This happens on every page of my site where there should be a Nav Bar.
I brought up the Safari "Activity" window and when I load one of my pages in, error messages pop up that may hold the clue for someone helping out. (I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the problem.)
All the "http://..." components (not shown) load in okay, but the following "https://..." components below are followed by a "bad server certificate" error message.
https://www.me.com/st/1/sharedassets/2.0.4/Common/Scripts/Site/iWebImage.js
https://www.me.com/st/1/sharedassets/2.0.4/Common/Scripts/Site/iWebSite.js

https://www.me.com/st/1/sharedassets/2.0.4/Common/Templates/Layered%20Paper/Laye redPaper_04.jpg
No, I haven't tried deleting the page I created yesterday. I'm quite proud of it and would hate to can it. I will, if I have to, but before then, I was hoping someone else familiar with this problem had a solution they could share.
Thanks.Hello
I am having the same problem. I have had my website with mobile me for nearly 2 years and have never had a problem.
However my Nav Bar has disappeared on the published website. When I go into iWeb it is there. I have made some changes and republished it - a few times - and when live you can only get to the Home page, there is just a dot where all the other pages used to list.
I brought up the Safari Activity window and it tells me that only 13 of 15 items are there. It doesn't show any other errors.
I would love some help on how to fix it.
Thanks

RSS Not Working in All Browsers Except Safari?
I've recently used iWeb to make a website (not .mac) and has been completely Validated at w3, and passed with no errors in the coding.. except when we go to use the RSS Feed Button in Firefox for Mac, Firefor for PC, Internet Explorer for PC.. the page comes up with errors - and displays a message saying: "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below." and simply displays the Coding. So i checked the RSS page at w3 Validator and it failed because of an Error on line 42. The line 42 is this:
<description><a href="http://users.bigpond.net.au/bjsp1/lacc/News/F4CBD4AA-E949-44E0-A31C-61159 9D79BD8files/DSCF1400%20copy1.jpg"><img src="http://users.bigpond.net.au/bjsp1/lacc/News/Images/DSCF1400%20copy.jpg" style="float:left; padding-right:10px; padding-bottom:10px; width:130px; height:130px;"/></a>Hello Everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates - we’ve had some technical difficulties - but were back with a new design and some more user-friendly pages. <br>
So far the only error i can see is the </a> etc.. errors, but it could have been an error caused by a change of programs (to get the actual line i opened the file in Microsoft Frontpage) Any ideas of why it is not working in any browsers, and how to fix it?
Thanks!Yes, I'm puzzled by the whole RSS thing as well.
Clicking on RSS subscribe from my website in Firefox
gives me the same error. But if I click on the RSS
icon in the address bar of Firefox, it seems to keep
track of my site updates just fine.
That's right. I forgot that FireFox has its Live Bookmarks feature which is basically the same as an RSS reader. While the subscribe button doesn't do anything, FireFox scans a page being viewed for any RSS feeds and lets you select them via other means. RSS is just a different protocol than http and different browers handle it different ways (or not at all). -
Nav bar doesnt line up in browsers - help please
Hi All
Well I spent another day trying to get this to look the way I
want to and again I just cant seem to do what I thought would be an
easy thing,
I have upload so you can see this
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/j.beauchamp/test.htm
Ok in firefox it puts the nav bar exactly where I want it -
the nav bar vertcial is centered with the blue line, but if you
look at this in the dreaded Internet explorer 6 to which if I met
the person /s who invented this (mentioning no names ) i would
probably give them a good telling off. - the nav bar is slighty
lower - and nearly in the blue rectangle
I know there is a lot of <p>'s - its just to show you
what this is doing
I have tried making it an absoloute div - the results are the
same. Please if there is anyone out there who knows how to rectify
this I would be extremely grateful.
The css is this

Page from a Template - Nav Bars Not Coming Across
Have Dreamweaver CS4 on XP
I have a template that has an absolute placed div for the
header box...and just below that a 50 pixel absolute placement div
to hold the navigation bar.
The nav bars have 8 different buttons and several sub menus.
They look fine and work fine on the template and they preview in
firefox fine. In the template the header and the nav bars are not
write enabled...but the AP div for site content is write enabled in
the copy pages.
Here is the WEIRD behavior is CS4. In my first child copy
page of the template...I can NOT see the nav bar...but if I upload
it to the server and look at it there...the nav bar is visible. The
nav bar has 2 java scripts that have to be loaded in the root...and
they are there.
In the second page I made...the nav bar is NOT visible, it
does not preview, and it does not show up when I call it from the
server.
Whats UP with Dreamweaver or Me? I have had soo much funky
behavior with templates and resulting pages.
Can someone help figure this out with me. Some post talked
about making the z value of the nav bar be 1100 or 1300 because of
some IE problem...so I did that trying to avoid problems with the z
value being off.
Thanks for your help
SuzziePost a link to the page, please.

hi all,
i have had this problem since i bought my Mac Book. When trying to load a .zip or a .dmg webpage, it will start loading the page and than stop. Without dispaying nothing only a white page. I wont show me any errors or nothing, just stop loading,
I have upgraded to snow leopard maybe it will stop doing this but useless. I tried using Safari, Google Chrome and Mozilla and still the same.
Please help
Thanks folksthanks for the quick reply
i tried everything you told me but its still not working. When i try and download its redirecting me as every download page should do, so that ok. But when the .dmg and .zip page will start loading it will stay blank and stop loading on.
I checked the download folder and even the preferences and nothing is showing up. I think its more of a permission problem than from the browser since all browsers are doing this.
I had Norton 2010 installed and was removed maybe it was the source of the problem but still.
More help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Adobe flash installed but not detected by all Browsers
OK I am running Vista 64bit with ie8 firebox and chrome have the latest version of flash player 11.
I have uninstalled it reinstalled flash 11 fine.... but going to youtube or any other site that uses flash player it asked to install. this happens on all browsers I tried on. please help asap
DreIE, Firefox and Chrome all use a different version of Flash.
IE requires the ActiveX version while Firefox doesn't. They both use a plugin though. You can get them both from here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/909550
In Google Chrome, the Flash player is embedded and you get it when you install that browser whether you want it or not. It auto updates in the background, so you don't have to bother with that aspect. -
The images is not show in all browsers.
hello,,
I bought a new MacBook Pro and it is not displaying certain images in all browsers.. including safari, google chrome, mozilla firefox..
note that when I trying to open the same page using windows OS, it opened fine!MacBook Pro and it is not displaying certain images in all browsers.. including safari, google chrome, mozilla firefox..
Are you using Apple's Airport Express or Extreme .. what kind of router ?? You must be using one to setup a wi fi network. And that can affect all your browsers. -
Images not loading across all browsers on certain websites, help!
== Issue

Firefox is having problems with certain web sites
== Description
==
When browsing college humor and Gawker network sites, and also occasionally google and forbidden planet, images don't load correctly. This happens across all browsers but I feel firefox may be the root of the problem. This happens on both computers which share my firefox profile, and doesn't affect others in my house such as my iPod Touch.
Any ideas? I really want to sort this out.

that HTML content shows that there’s no content at that Web site — it will only show the heading “301 Moved Permanently” and the single line “nginx/1.2.6”. I suspect that they might have wanted to include a redirection directive in that document, but for some reason, they didn’t. Your browsers are behaving as they ought to do with this Web site.
Have you considered trying www.sundancechannel.fr in your browsers instead of sundancechannel.fr? -
Background Image in Nav Bar Not Working in IE 6 (but ok in 7 and Firefox 2)
Hi gang,
I'm having a bit of a problem with a background image for a navigation bar not appearing in IE 6. I've also tested it in IE 7 - it works perfectly, as it does in Firefox 2.

The really strange thing is the part of the bar after "Contact" IS fine in IE 6.
Also, is there any way to remove unused styles (in an external CSS) in DW? Just it would be a pain to go through and remove the styles I've tried, but then later decided not to use.
Thanks again,
Iain.Have you contacted Project VII support or searched their knowledge base?

Not exaclty a DW answer, but I've used the free FireFox add-on to help me find unused selectors. Point it to a sitemap.xml and it can spider the whole site (as listed in that xml file).

But be careful with it. It apparently doesn't read JavaScript and your PMM triggers are actually used.

Movie not showing on all browsers
I have a mp4 movie in this page:
http://amedeldesign.com/interiores/proyecto.htm
But it doesn't seem to show up in all browsers, I have IE and
explorer and it shows here, but a friend says it isn't showing in
his IE.
Is there a way to make this more universal? Either by using
another movie format, or another code?Is this QuickTime. If so, which it looks like to me, you
friend will need QuickTime to play it and see the video.
If you have Flash 8 or CS3 you can use the stand alone video
encoder to create an FLV and then insert into Dreamweaver. This
means the user will only need to have a Flash player instead of
QuickTime. Either that or you;ll have to tell visitors to download
QuickTime
