Navigation item in page template makes postback reload current page first

Hi,
in Jdeveloper 11g we have a page template for our app, which includes navigation items.
Looking at server log it seems that when a navigationItem is clicked, the current page loads first, is processed and only then redirects to the target page. The problem of course is performance impact, I guess this takes a page to load almost twice as slow as it needs to.
Is there any way to change the behavior so that navigationItem immediately redirects to the target page?
Regards
Jernej

Hi,
The Lifecycle will always process the current page, that's part of the JSF specification. I suggest you do some reading on JSF http://jcp.org/aboutJava/communityprocess/final/jsr252/index.html. There's two ways to reduce the amount of nodes evaluated by the Lifecycle implementation though, make your navigationItem partialSubmit="true" and/or immediate="true".

  • Why has the "Reload current page" control been moved to the navigation bar Firefox 29? I would like to be able to place it where I had it in Firefox 28.

    After getting the Firefox 29 download I tried to rearrange my buttons\controls to where I was used to having them in Firefox 28 and prior. I noticed, in particular, that the "Reload current page" control is no longer available to be set in front of the navigation bar where I've had it for years now. The reason I chose Firefox in the first place was because I could customize it to my liking. I know you can simply right click and "Reload" the tab or just get used to going to the end (right side) of the navigation bar but that defeats the purpose completely for me.
    Here's an analogy; Ford decides they will now replace current model cars in the US with British standard style vehicles. Every car sold by Ford will now be right-hand steer. While this may seem like a "no biggy" to some, others, especially those of us who are inclined to drive standard transmission vehicles, may be a bit resistant to that change. Not sure if I successfully made my point or not but hopefully I did.
    Initially I thought I'd start by "Has someone fallen and hit their head?' or "Did Steve Ballmer suddenly take over Mozilla, in particular the build of Firefox 29, because this one smells like a Windows 8 (aka the aroma of a full sewer tank on a hot day)?" It is understood that updates are required and as an IT guy, I've been around for many a faux pas where the kinks just need to be worked out. They happen. Maybe some consideration will be made with Firefox 30 to those of us in the states that are used to left-hand steer vehicles.
    I may be missing something here, and will gladly fall on my sword if that is the case, but there is no indication that I've seen from the Mozilla sight that the "Reload current page" control can be manipulated in any way as of Firefox 29. On the bright side, I now have a good reason to go back and review some of the browsers I discounted back in the day when I decided to go with Firefox.

    As far as I know, [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ the Classic Theme Restorer add-on] is the only way move the Reload button outside the address bar.
    # Install [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ Classic Theme Restorer] and restart Firefox when prompted.
    # Open the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A; Mac: Command+Shift+A), then the Extensions category.
    # Next to Classic Theme Restorer, click the Options button.
    # On the Main tab, make sure "Movable back-forward button" and "Hide urlbars stop & reload buttons" are checked. You might also want to check "Combine stop & reload buttons". Close the options window when done.
    # Right-click an empty area of the tab bar and choose Customize.
    # Drag the Back/Forward, Stop and Reload buttons onto the navigation toolbar.
    # Click the Exit Customize button in the lower right corner when done.
    That being said, I should point out that you can reload pages in other ways.
    * Right-click any tab and choose Reload.
    * Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Reload.
    * Press F5.
    * Press Ctrl+R (Mac: Command+R).

  • "Reload current page/Stop loading current page" seems to be missing from Navigation Bar customization. How do I get it back?

    I am loading Firefox on a new computer, and I can't find the Navigation Bar button for "Reload current page/Stop loading current page". Is there any way to get it back as a choice under Navigation Bar customization or to create a new function? CTRL-R used to work for this function, but I'd like to have the button on the Navigation Bar.

  • Reference application item from page template

    Hi friends,
    How can refere to application item from page template (i.e. one level tab).
    set or get value from application item.
    thank you

    Alaa,
    If the item name is X put &X. in the template. Don't forget to use upper case and provide the trailing period.
    set or get value from application item.
    That is not a complete sentence, please clarify.

  • ValueChangeListener on Navigation Item (JD 11.1.1.3.0)

    Hello to all,
    I put on a page a Navigation Item binded to a VisualObjet named: TemplateView1
    When the user select the item on navigation, I need to get the row selected and make some operation. So I wrote a method and I associated it to valueChangeListener event.
    But what happend? The:
    Row currRow = ADFUtils.findIterator("TemplateView1Iterator").getCurrentRow();
    give me always the prev record not the new one. For example at the start:
    *1 <user see theese>*
    2
    3
    4
    He select the *3th* row, Row currRow = ADFUtils.findIterator("TemplateView1Iterator").getCurrentRow(); give me the *1th row.*
    After he choose the *2nd* row, Row currRow = ADFUtils.findIterator("TemplateView1Iterator").getCurrentRow(); geve me the *3th row*...
    How can I give the selected row?
    Thank you,
    Cristian

    Ok... :)
    I have a NavigationList (choiceList ) binded to a ViewObject: templateSearch1
    When I choose a element (template) from the choiceList:
    1. I get the row selected from templateSearch1 (on ValueChangeListener event I get the templateSearch1.getCurrentRow())
    2. get the XML from row
    3. Create a mask based on XML
    All works... but: on choiceList 's ValueChangeListener event the templateSearch1.getCurretRow() give me the prev row not the selected row.
    Hope it is clear :)
    This is the code on ValueChangeListener :
    +public void createSearchMask(ValueChangeEvent valueChangeEvent){+
    ApplicationModule am;
    am = ADFUtils.getApplicationModuleForDataControl("AppModuleDataControl");
    Row currRow = ADFUtils.findIterator("templateSearch1Iterator").getCurrentRow();
    +if (currRow != null) {+
    String xml = currRow.getAttribute("Xml").toString();
    XMLDocument doc = XMLUtils.getDoc(xml);
    RichPanelGroupLayout search = new RichPanelGroupLayout();
    search.setId("searchPanelMask");
    UIComponent searchMask = createSearchMaskFromXML((XMLElement)doc.getFirstChild().getFirstChild(),search);
    +if (this.getBox().findComponent("searchPanelMask")!= null){+
    this.getBox().getChildren().remove(this.getBox().findComponent("searchPanelMask"));
    +}+
    this.getBox().getChildren().add(search);
    +}+
    +}+

  • Adding a page path to an "all items in page group" SELECT?

    I have a case where a client's asked me to produce a "report" (nothing fancy, so I'm thinking a basic SELECT right out of the DB here rather than a full solution like Discoverer or Business Objects) for them on all items in particular page groups in our Portal (v10.1.2.0.2).
    I have a query that Oracle Support provided which I can fiddle with a bit to get most of the info I need:
    select I.ID, I.display_name, I.name, I.itemtype, P.name
    from PORTAL.WWSBR_ALL_ITEMS I,
    PORTAL.WWSBR_ALL_CONTENT_AREAS CA,
    PORTAL.WWSBR_ALL_FOLDERS P
    where CA.name = 'MY_PAGE_GROUP'
    and P.caid = CA.id
    and I.caid = CA.id
    and I.folder_id=P.id
    and I.active=1
    and I.is_current_version=1
    and I.visible=1
    and I.itemtype in ('basefile','baseimagemap','basetext','baseurl');
    ...however, what I'd like to do is add a "page path" column; that is, one that would trace up the tree from the item's page to the root of the page group and present something like "My Page Group > Departments > HR" like you get in Portal Navigator.
    I can think of how to do this, conceptually, by tracing through the parent pages in WWSBR_ALL_FOLDERS, but what I'm not quite sure about is how to do it for an arbitrary depth in the page tree - i.e., the page can be any (reasonable) number of levels from the page group's root.
    Any thoughts? I'd prefer to do this as a basic SQL query if at all possible, but writing a little reusable PL/SQL procedure to do it isn't out of the question. My knowledge of PL/SQL is pretty rudimentary but I have enough programming experience in other languages that I could probably manage to bumble through it if necessary.
    Thanks.

    First create a page that can contain two regions. One for a page-path item, and another to have a report portlet.
    For the page-path, you can have another region in your page. Then edit this region to make it items type. Now add an item of type 'Page Path', with depth 3.
    Now, you can create a portal report based on your SQL query, publish it as portlet, add it on that page as portlet.
    That will give you exactly what you have described you want.
    hope that helps!

  • Displaying navigation item in Navigation Pane

    1. I created a Portal in my 11.1.1.8 Portal Builder.
    2. For that portal, I added a few links to navigation. Portal Home -> Portals -> Portal Builder -> "Administer" corresponding to my portal -> Assets-> Navigation -> Edit on the default navigation
    3. I added the following code in the portal's page template:
    <af:navigationPane id="pt_np1" var="node"
         value="#{navigationContext.defaultNavigationModel.defaultMenuModel}"
         level="1" hint="tabs">
         <f:facet name="nodeStamp">
              <af:commandNavigationItem text="#{node.label}"
                   action="#{node.doAction}"
                   destination="#{node.destination}"
                   id="pt_cni1"/>
         </f:facet>
    </af:navigationPane>
    4. I see tabs with no text.
    Expected: Tabs should contain the text that I entered in "Name" field of Navigation item.
    Observed: The tabs are created but there is no text in them. The number of tabs are as expected. I had 6 navigation item, the number of tabs created are also 6.
    For the text field, I tried the following:
    node.id - displays the id of the navigation item.
    node.prettyUrl - again, the id of the navigation item.
    node.name - empty tabs
    node.label - empty tabs.
    The class of node is "oracle.webcenter.portalframework.sitestructure.SiteStructureResource".  But, I could not get javadoc to see more information.
    Does anyone know how I can get the Name of the navigation to display in the tabs?

    I found the answer. According to this link - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E29542_01/webcenter.1111/e27739/jpsdg_app_els.htm#CHDCBJGJ
    I should use node.title to get the title.

  • How to open navigation item in new tab?

    Hello
    Is it possible to open a navigation item in a new tab?
    for example, when a user enters in MII and in the menu has several links, is it possible, when clicking in a link, to open it  in a new tab?
    i know it is possible to open in a new window or in home page or on top... but what about tab?
    Best regards.
    Edited by: Ricardo Alves on Dec 4, 2009 5:53 PM

    Your solution will be client setting dependent.  The home page navigation and tab options for opening in the frame or new window are merely setting the href target in the home page html when the screen is rendered by the personalization service.  As far as I know the tab behavior new to IE in version 7, and the tab behavior in other browsers like Mozilla/Firefox are both managed at the application level and will be client PC bound.  The home page process just uses target="_blank" for opening links in a new window.  I don't know if there is a browser neutral setting for something like target="_newtab", but it doesn't appear to be the case:  http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/types.html#h-6.16
    If something like this does creep into the standard then it would make a nice feature enhancement request for 3 radio button options when defining a link in the navigation editor.

    but i get the following error when i create page through this page layout
    "Content Place holders are only allowed in master page"
    Can anyone tell me how do i insert left navigation in page layout which is created through sharepoint designer (.aspx file) but master page is created through design manager

    Hi  ,
    As the error says, you need to  add Content Place holders to Mater Page not the Page Layout.
    For  inserting  left navigation, you can add Vertical Navigation SharePoint component to the master page using Snippets  manager:
    1.
    Open the site then click design manager link from right top corner "Settings".
    2.
    Click “Edit Master Pages” link.
    3.Click your custom mater page. It will open preview page.
    4.
    Once open the preview page then click Snippets menu from top right side. It will open “Snippet Gallery” in new tab page.
    5.
    Click the Vertical Navigation menu item in “DESIGN “tab.
    6.
    In this page we can easy to configure component properties.
    After customization must click the update button then only the changes are reflected in the component snippet.
    7.
    Once click the update button the HTML code automatically generated in the “HTML snippet” box and click “Copy to Clipboard” button.
    8.
    Open the mapped network drive then open the Mater Page HTML file and paste HTML snippet where you want the navigation to show.

  • Firefox 12's greyed out "reload current page" on file//sample.svg worked in 11.x. How to get it working again?

    Using Firefox 12 the icon "reload current page" works for regular web pages but does not work when I view a local svg file. ex file file:///D:/test/programming/python/svgwrite/test.svg will show the svg correctly but when I update the svg file I can no longer press the "reload current page" icon because the icon is greyed out. This worked perfectly while using Firefox 11.x. How do I get this to work like it did in Firefox 11? Thanks.

    Do the F5 or Ctrl+F5 shortcut keys work?
    You can also click the URL on the location bar to add and remove a Space or anther character and click the Go button that should appear to reload the page.
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Items on page not set when called via hyperlink from charts

    hello anyone who can help me on this thorny issue,
    i have a barchart on one page (page 39), where if you click on the bar chart, page 40 opens and variables are passed on to items on page 40. the variables depend on which bar was clicked. looks somethiing like this:
    select 'F?P=102:40:'||:APP_SESSION||'::NO::P40_DATE,P40_JAHR:'||to_char(datum, 'yyyy.mm.dd')||','||to_char(datum, 'yyyy') link,
    to_char(datum, 'dd.mm.yyyy') Datum,
    Avg_mips
    from ... some sql query....
    this generally works - BUT, once in awhile, the correct page opens, but the items are NULL!
    only when i press F5 to refresh the page, do the variables correctly pass to the items and the proper query is performed...
    after some testing, it seems to happen when i click quite fast. quickly get back to the page 39, click a new bar and then i'm back at page 40 again.
    if i do this slowly, maybe wait a couple of seconds, it generally works.
    for ex., the URL would look something like this:
    http://daidalos:7777/pls/apex/F?P=102:40:2118535974571692::NO::P40_DATE,P40_JAHR:2008.12.16,2008
    - i know the variables are correct when i look at the URL
    - yet the new graph on page 40 shows null values, and a click on the "session" button confirms that the items are null!
    - once i press F5, the URL is the exact same, onle the items are now "refreshed" and the proper processing can take place.
    so, can anyone tell me what is going on here and how i can avoid this?
    the items are set as "hidden" (not protected). there are no computations or default settings to the items, and they are not reset to null at any time.
    regards,
    mike

    Mike:
    I suspect that the chart on page 40 is being rendered by an APEX database connection that is not the same one that renders the rest of the stuff on page 40. So, it is possible that the database connection rendering the chart does not see the new values for the page items set in the URL as these may not have been committed to the database yet.
    You could try this.
    Change the chart query to be
    select 'javascript:setStuff("' || to_char(datum, 'yyyy.mm.dd') ||  '","' ||to_char(datum, 'yyyy') || '")' link,
    to_char(datum, 'dd.mm.yyyy') Datum,
    Avg_mips
    from ... some sql query...Add the JS below into the HRML page header<script>
    function setStuff(p_date,p_jahr) {
      $x('P40_DATE').value=p_date
    $x('P40_JAHR').value=p_jahr
    doSubmit('XXXX');
    </script>Define an 'After Submit...' branch to page 40. Make the branch conditional on Request = 'XXXX'

  • How to avoid the hard limit of 100 column and items per page?

    I have created a Form on a Table with Report. I need to create/edit approximately 175 items. The items on the Form have a limit of 100 column and items per page. What is the best way to carry the remaining items to another Form and doing an insert or update? or is the 100 column limit on the insert/update per table as well?
    Thank You.

    Hi Rick,
    The 100 item limit is on a page, not a table, so you shouldn't have any trouble with your insert or update processes.
    Here's a thought:
    Report currently has a column that links to the first page of items (page 14) with the retrieved row. Presumably you also have a Add New button on the report page that links to page 14 for a new row.
    Define a Next button on page 14 that branches to the second page of items (page 16). Also define a Previous button on page 16 to return to page 14. But page 16 would be the only page with a Save button.
    Now, if user clicks Add New, user will get a blank page 14. Once user enters the info and passes validation they click Next and will be sent to page 16 to enter the remaining info and Save.
    If user clicks one of the column links, they will be brought to page 14 with the clicked row - they can change whatever info there and click Next, or just click Next, to get to page 16. After any changes are made, they click Save.
    I'm assuming you've been thru the tutorials and realize that you'd really have two Save buttons defined for page 16 - one conditional on your primary key item having a value (existing record) and one conditional on it being null (new record) - check out the tutorials for more info, but this is how the application would know whether to run an insert process or an update process.
    Hope this all makes sense and can help,
    John

  • Why does backbean's method be invoked when page navigation to other page

    Hi, All
    Why does backbean's method getBeans() be invoked
    when current page(list.jsp) navigation to other page(edit.jsp)?
    //client list.jsp
    <h:dataTable id="items" value="#{userDelegate.beans}"
    var="user" rowClasses="oddRow, evenRow" headerClass="tableHeader" >
    //server backbean
    public class CustomDelegate extends BaseDelegate{
    public ListDataModel getBeans(){}
    when list.jsp first initialize(first load), jsf invoke getBeans(), is right;
    but when from list.jsp navigation to edit.jsp, jsf invoke getBeans() too!
    what's the matter with it?

    How are you invoking the navigation? With a simple h:outputLink which links to another page or with an h:commandLink/h:commandButton which naturally first invokes the backingbean?
    If you're using h:outputLink, then this behaviour may not occur. You may review/redesign your JSF and bean logic.
    If you're using UICommand link/button, then this is usual behaviour. (re)read the JSF lifecycle for an explanation. If you ONLY want to get the navigation case, then you can 1) replace the methodbinding from action or actionListener by just the navigation case string, or 2) add immediate="true" to the UICommand element.
