Navigation line disappears in Safari 2 and 4

On my old Mac Mini PPC first running Safari 2, the navigation line just disappeared so I couldn't enter any address. I upgraded to Safari 4 and met same problem. Running 10.4.11 on the Mac Mini.
Is this a virus or a bug?

Thanks but that's not it. The back and forward arrows are still there, but no address line. I've tried to hide and show, but that doesn't help. No problem on Firefox. This is on the Mac Mini running 10.4.11, French translation.

  • Text field RESIZE disappears in Safari 4 and 4.0.1 after browsing awhile

A most useful feature in Safari is the ability to resize a multi-line Text Field in a form (such as the one this question/comment is input)
I have found that after browsing awhile this ability and the 3 diagonal lines in the lower right corner of such a field disappear on most sites. To get it back I have to quit and restart Safari. Something turns it off and keeps it off. This has happened on sites like Amazon, Facebook, Goodreads, phpBB forums etc. I works on all these sites, eg, I go elsewhere, return to said site and it no longer works.
Could a site turn off this behavior and keep it off or is this a Safari bug? How can I keep this feature from disappearing?
    TIA,
    Bill

    Hi Bill
The text box resize is part of Safari's application code. Use Safari from another User Account (if necessary, you can create one in System Preferences>Accounts). Log-on to the other account and open Safari.
If the same problem occurs there, I suggest reinstalling Safari. Otherwise, the problem is specific to your regular user account. In that case, go to the Finder: Your User Account>Library>Preferences file. There, move the com.apple.safari.plist file to the trash, then restart Safari. This resets Safari Preferences to default values. Make sure you restore any custom settings in Safari Preferences, or in the View Menu, or your Toolbar.

  • Horizontal lines mostly in Safari

I found an archived post dating back to March 2008 with my exact issue. Here's a link to that post, which contains a picture of my exact problem. His was the Macbook Pro, but mine is imac intel (see below for the details of my machine).
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1468905&tstart=
I'm trying not to be too upset due to the fact that my year warranty just ended in early December 2008 and I didn't purchase Applecare. Oh well, live and learn.
I'm just so surprised at all the issues I've been reading about in here. I really thought I was getting a great machine. My first mac.

Have you tried installing Fan Control?
    http://www.derman.com/Download/Special/iMacFanControl.html
I was finding the same problems. Horizontal lines "frozen" into safari, itunes, and then eventually migrating to my destop and eventually whole sections of my desktop.
I tried everything to ensure I wasn't dealing with a bug (including a full wipe and rebuild of my mac (it had been a few years). So I wanted to be absolutely certain I didn't have a driver/software bug somewhere. And within about 4 hours of a freshly updated Leopard install, the lines showed up again.
I installed Fan Control, and I immediately heard the fan increase speed, and the next thing I noticed... no more funny lines. Guess my video card (NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT) is not liking the heat in there.
    Hope this helps.

When I copy and paste text in facebook, the text looks fine until I hit 'share' or 'comment' to submit it. Firefox then adds indiscriminate line-feeds within the text and it looks nothing like the original text. It makes it very difficult to read and awful to look at.
This does not happen in Safari.
(Mac OSX 10.6.4 with Firefox 3.6.6).

Same problem, 3.6.8 and previous recent versions. I never thought to try another browser but I just pasted into IE and it worked fine. I copied from Firefox to IE and it worked as well. It's just when you paste into Firefox that you get the weird line breaks.

  • The address and search bar has disappeared from Safari.  How do I get it back?

I own an iMac (Mac OS X, version 10.6
KProcessor 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

My husband and I use the same computer.  The address and search bar has disappeared from Safari on my desktop but not his.  How do I get it back?  All I have is the Apple page when I open Safari.

Choose Show Toolbar or Customize Toolbar from the View menu and put it back.

Goes away so quick I'm not even sure what it's about...

Thanks for the update! Next, and this is like a last step for me, but I would quit Safari one more time, then clear all the Safari data from the phone with this info and then test it out again:
Safari web settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    Clear information from your device
To clear your history and cookies from Safari in iOS 8, tap Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. In iOS 7 or earlier, tap Clear History and tap Clear Cookies and Data.
To clear other stored information from Safari, tap Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data > Remove All Website Data.

  • Safari, quicktime, and Preview disappeared

Hi, i switched on my imac and safari, quicktime and preview were disappeared from my application folders, i had to reinstall again quicktime and safari but i don't know how to replace preview. How is it possible that this 3 applications are disappeared???

    Hi,
Use your installation disk to reinstall them as described in this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1442?viewlocale=en_US
and then re-download the 10.5.6 combo updater for your system to update everything to the correct version.
The likeliest cause is that someone had access to your machine and deleted them for whatever reason.

  • Safari, mail, and ichat disappeared

    Hi all,
I quit safari recently (just command Q) then shut the screen. After returning to it hours later, I only get a '?' over the icon. I've tried to search for it in finder (spotlight) but can't find anything. It seems like Safari, Mail, and iChat have all disappeared?
Has anyone experienced this or know a solution?

Quit the editor, then restart it while holding down cmd+shift+option. Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

Safari froze and after I did a force log off the icon disappeared, does any know why?

I have been scouring everywhere for a solution to a similar problem where the audio would drop out for a second or two ever 5 or so seconds - regardless of whether we were streaming content or using an iPad and Air Play.
I tried changing the audio channels on the ATV as suggested elsewhere and here - no luck.
Played with the settings on the Air port Express - no luck.
We swapped the ATV to a different tv and it worked fine.
Then played with the audio settings on the SONY Bravia - no luck.
Swapped the audio out on the ATV to play through the Air Port Express and plugged in the some headphones.  NO AUDIO DROP OUTS!
My deduction - a problem with the HDMI cable.  Borrowed a friend's cable - wasn't going to spend another $50+ if the cable wasn't the problem.  And lo and behold the HDMI cable was the problem.
    Only took 3 hours.

  • My TrafficLight extension disappeared from Safari and will not reinstall. How can I fix this?

My TrafficLight extension disappeared from Safari and will not reinstall, either through Safari or as a standalone download. How can I fix this?

Are you sure you downloaded this extension from Apple ?
    https://extensions.apple.com/
    Where is it?
    Check ~/Library/Safari/Extensions
I did a Google search for source links for the extension but can't find the one for Apple here.
Maybe you downloaded a trial version and it expired?  http://trafficlight.bitdefender.com/extensions.html
Just my 2 cents, but this extension is likely to cause you more problems with Safari then it's worth. If you are concerned about security on the net read >  Thomas' Corner : Mac Virus Guide

  • IMac early 2008 screen not working properly, lots of lines on screen, re appearing and disappearing at random(normally slowly), computer fine on external screen, any suggestions?

This seemed to happen very suddenly; I left my iMac running while i went out and came in to find that the screen was totally unusable, as you will be able to see from the picture it has a lot of lines that seem to come and go a random and sometimes it goes black all together. What do you think is wrong with it? Logic board? Graphics card? Screen itself?.. also if it is the graphics card, is it separate to the logic board or do both need to be replaced?
    Also some additional info:
    iMac Early 2008
    2.4ghz
    4gb Ram
    OSX 10.9.2
    ATI Radion HD 2400
Actual computer working on external monitor, just not internal
    Thanks

Costs vary by area, I think you may find out though that spending money on a 6+ year computer may not be worth it, you can buy an Apple Refurbished Mac with much more up-to-date specifications and save hundreds of $s. If this is of interest you can only find them on Apple's on-line store, in the US the current link is:
    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals
Then click the link to the iMacs. If you don't find one you want, continue looking the inventories change frequently, sometimes by the hour.

  • Thin Black Lines When Using Safari

Recently upgraded to Maverick and I noticed that when I use Safari I get thin black lines on the sides and bottom of safari. When I click on screen to go to finder lines disappear. Anyone else experiencing this? Not occuring with any other browser.

yeah, pic I uploaded is not great, you can see them a bit at the bottom. Should have made background white. Lines not showing up right now. Will wait till it shows up and repost a better pic.
