  • What is the regular expression for the end of a story?

    Forgive me if this is wrong forum for asking this, but I'm trying to use the Find command using GREP and I need to know the regular expression for the end of a story. (Or, the last character of a story.) Thanks in advance.

    I'd try search for .\z (that's a dot in front) which ought to find the very last character in the story, and replace with $0 and your additional text.
    You know you can use a keyboard shortcut to move your cursor to the end of any story, right? Ctrl + End on Windows, Cmd + End, I think, on Mac. Unless you want to do this to every single story in the document, I would think you might be just as well off to put your text on the clipboard, put the cursor in the story and hit the key combo followed by Ctrl/Cmd + V to paste.

  • Using regular expressions for validating time fields

    Similar to my problem with converting a big chunk of validation into smaller chunks of functions I am trying to use Regular Expressions to handle the validation of many, many time fields in a flexible working time sheet.
    I have a set of FormCalc scripts to calculate the various values for days, hours and the gain/loss of hours over a four week period. For these scripts to work the time format must be in HH:MM.
    Accessibility guidelines nix any use of message box pop ups so I wanted to get around this by having a hidden/visible field with warning text but can't get it to work.
    So far I have:
    var r = new RegExp(); // Create a new Regular Expression Object
    r.compile ("^[00-99]:\\] + [00-59]");
    var result = r.test(this.rawValue);
    if (result == true){
    true;
    form1.flow.page.parent.part2.part2body.errorMessage.presence = "visible";
    else (result == false){
    false;
    form1.flow.page.parent.part2.part2body.errorMessage.presence = "hidden";
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Date and time fields are tricky because you have to consider the formattedValue versus the rawValue. If I am going to use regular expressions to do validation I find it easier to make them text fields and ignore the time patterns (formattedValue). Something like this works (as far as my very brief testing goes) for 24 hour time where time format is HH:MM.
    // form1.page1.subform1.time_::exit - (JavaScript, client)
    var error = false;
    form1.page1.subform1.errorMsg.rawValue = "";
    if (!(this.isNull)) {
      var time_ = this.rawValue;
      if (time_.length != 5) {
        error = true;
      else {
        var regExp = /^([01]?[0-9]|2[0-3]):[0-5][0-9]$/;
        if (!(regExp.test(time_))) {
          error = true;
    if (error == true) {
      form1.page1.subform1.errorMsg.rawValue = "The time must be in the format HH:MM where HH is 00-23 and MM is 00-59.";
      form1.page1.subform1.errorMsg.presence = "visible";

  • Regular expressions for replacing text with sms language text

    Hi, I'm trying to write a function which converts normal, correctly spelled text into the shorter sms language format but struggling to come up with the regular expressions i need to do so, can anyone help?
    1: remove surplus white space at the beginning of a sentence and at the end of a sentence.
    e.g. " hello." --> "hello." OR "hello ." --> "hello."
    2: remove preceeding and/or proceeding space if there's a word then a number possibly followed by another word
    e.g. "come 2 me" --> "come2me" OR "dnt 4get" --> "dnt4get"
    3: remove "aeiou" if word starts and ends with "!aeiou"
    e.g. "text" --> "txt"

    You can make the whitespace on either side optional:   text = text.replaceAll("\\s*(\\d)\\s*", "$1");1. Use String's trim() method.
    3. This one has to be done in two steps: import java.util.regex.*;
    public class Test
      public static void main(String... args) throws Exception
        String text = "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.";
        System.out.println(devowelize(text));
      public static String devowelize(String str)
        Pattern p = Pattern.compile(
          "[a-z&&[^aeiou]]++(?:[aeiou]++[a-z&&[^aeiou]]++)+",
          Pattern.CASE_INSENSITIVE);
        Matcher m = p.matcher(str);
        StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
        while (m.find())
          m.appendReplacement(sb, m.group().replaceAll("[aeiou]+", ""));
        m.appendTail(sb);
        return sb.toString();
    }

    I can't help wondering if a simpler solution would involve creating a java.net.URL object, passing it the string to be checked, and let URL do the parsing and an initial pass at checking the syntax. Then you could query URL for individual components for further checking (e.g., getting the transfer type to make sure it's one of the kinds you want). This approach would probably be more self-documenting, if nothing else.Nice idea, but java.net.URL doesn't actually do much work at all. It basically takes the protocol part, looks up a handler for it, and delegates everything else to that. The handlers themselves are down in the sun packages (or whatever your Java impl is) and since there isn't one for the OPs protocol, he'd have to write and register his own anyway, which kind-of negates the entire purpose of leveraging it.
    @OP: Paul's suggestion can still be of use. Apache, Codehaus and the like will have written their own protocol handlers, it's worth grabbing the source code for, say, Apache HttpClient, and seeing if they've got anything useful in there. Then again, who's to say that what's a valid URL for this 'norm' protocol, other than whoever designed the protocol?

  • Can I set a default font and font color for the text field properties?

    I am setting up applications, some of the information I fill in prior to sending it to the client; I would like that text to always be in a specific font and color so it is clear to the client what information I filled in for them when they are reviewing the document.
    Thank you

    Not at this time, but I've asked the product team to consider adding it as a feature. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • How to write the regular expression for Square brackets?

    Hi,
    I want regular expression for the [] ‘Square brackets’.
    I have tried to insert in the below code but the expression not validate the [] square brackets.
    If anyone knows please help me how to write the regular expression for ‘[]’ Square brackets.
    private static final Pattern DESC_PATTERN = Pattern.compile("({1}[a-zA-Z])" +"([a-zA-Z0-9\\s.,_():}{/&#-]+)$");Thanks
    Raghav

    Since square brackets are meta characters in regex they need to be escaped when they need to be used as regular characters so prefix them with \\ (the escape character).

  • Regular Expression For Dreamweaver

    I still haven't had the time to really become a professional when it comes to regular expressions, and sadly I am in need of one an finding it difficult to wrap my head around.
    In a text file I have hundreds of instances like the following:
    {Click here to visit my website}{http://www.adobe.com/}
    I need a regular expression for Dreamweaver that I can run within the "Find and Replace" window to switch the order of the above elements to:
    {http://www.adobe.com/}{Click here to visit my website}
    Can anyone provide some guidance? I'm coming up short due to my lack of experience with regular expressions.
    Thank you in advance!

    So you have a string that starts { and goes until the first }.  Then you have another string exactly the same.  And you want to swap them.  I'm not making any assumption that the second one has to look like a URL (that's a whole other minefield, but perhaps you could do something simple like it must start with http).
    You don't specify how your text file is divided up, have you got this as a complete line to itself, or is it just  a huge block of text?  Preferably as individual lines.
    I don't have Dreamweaver, but this worked for me in Notepad++
    Find: ^{(.*?)}{(.*?)}$
    Replace with: {\2}{\1}
    My file looked like this:
    {Click here to visit my website}{http://www.adobe.com/}
    {some other site}{http://www.example.com/foo}
    And doing a Replace All ended up like this:
    {http://www.adobe.com/}{Click here to visit my website}
    {http://www.example.com/foo}{some other site}

    If you insist it should be something like:
    "SELECT ([A-Z0-9_]+)[.][A-Z0-9_]+(,([A-Z0-9_]+)[.][A-Z0-9_]+)* FROM (([A-Z0-9_]+)[.][A-Z0-9_]+) INNER JOIN (([A-Z0-9_]+)[.][A-Z0-9_]+) ON .+" plus spaces etc... Yes it's for this kind of statements only.

  • Getting the regular expression from the given text

    Hi
    I need to develope an application which can convert the given text into the regular expression. I need that when i enter any text in textarea that should be translated into regular expression in another panel. but i could not find the method or technique which can do so. plz help me to resolve this issue.
    Thanks Imran khan.

    well, there are an infinite number of regular expressions for an arbitrary piece of text, so you will have to qualify in your mind what the purpose of the regular expression is.
    For instance, it is trivial to create a regex for a string just by copying the input text, and inserting \ before any special characters. But this pattern would probably be quite silly.

  • How can I create a form for users wherein the text field will expand to accommodate additional text?

    How can I create a form for users wherein the text field will expand to accommodate additional text?

    You need to use LiveCycle (PC Only) to create a dynamic form like that.
    The best you can do with Acrobat to view all of the text in a field is to set the field to multiline, and set the size to "Auto" (If you don't set the size to 'Auto', you can enter as much text as you wish, but the user will need to use the scrollbar to view all of the text.)
