Need blank form fields when page spawned

Hi all,
I have a fillable form that has buttons at the top of every page to for the user to duplicate the page in case more information needs to be entered.  Here is the javascript I'm using, courtesy of George Johnson:
// Get a template object from an existing template
var t = getTemplate("myTemplate");
// Spawn the template on the page following this one, and rename the fields
t.spawn({nPage: pageNum + 1, bRename: true, bOverlay: false});
This works great, except when the user has already filled out page 1, then clicks the button to duplicate the page, the new page contains the information already filled in by the user on page 1.  Is there a way to clear the fields when the page is duplicated? I am using Adobe X Pro.  Thank you!!!

Please repost in the Acrobat Scripting forum.

  • Cursor in form field when page opens?

    Client wants cursor in first form text field when page opens,

    all you have to do is set an onload function for the page to
    set the focus of that text field
    <!-- this sets the focus of the text field when the page
    loads -->
    <body OnLoad="document.myform.txtfield.focus();">
    <!-- setting the names up on the form and fields makes the
    javascript work -->
    <form name="myform">
    <input name="txtfield" type="text">

  • Adding saved form fields when page count changes

    It appears that there isn't a way inside of EchoSign to apply a set of forms fields that has been saved to the templates if the new version of the form has a page added or deleted.
    It seems like it would either require the form fields to be edited outside of EchoSign or be recreated from scratch if the form adds or removes a page when it is updated.
    I would appreciate any insight or confirmation.

    The situation would be thus:
    The document for Form Z is created in a program such as Word and has several pages. The Word document is uploaded to EchoSign. This converts the Word Doc to a pdf, and then the form fields added in EchoSign. Then that EchoSign form is saved as a template (both document and form fields) in the Library.
    Now, the client who created the Word document comes back a year later with a revised version of the Word Doc that has one fewer page. If that new Doc is uploaded to EchoSign, the form fields from the first version of the form cannot be imported and applied to the new version because the number of pages in the new document doesn't match the number of pages in the old document.
    This appears to be similar to LiveCycle, where you cannot replace the background pdf unless the new file has the same number of pages as the old pdf.
    Unfortunately, it is quite common for these larger and more complex forms to add or delete pages when they are revised, and those are exactly the forms that one would want to avoid rebuilding from scratch.

  • Mac OS X Preview application and phantom blank form fields

    I created a "employment application form" for my company in Acrobat. Occasionally our HR department will get a returned application form with the "phantom blank form fields". The information is there but invisible. I used the export form data and have been able to recover the data and make a viewable .pdf again but I would like to see if any one else has been encountering problems like this and what the solution may be.
    In this thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/4746439 Brian points out that it's likely that folks are using the Mac OS X Preview rather than Reader to fill in the form (thought for a long time that it was some sort of platform issue - the Mac thing makes perfect sense). Is there a way that I could possibly avert this problem when creating and distributing the document out of Acrobat?

  • Is there a way to set up a form field in pages?

    I would like to add a form field to document similar to Microsoft Word, (the little gray box that you put the cursor in and add text later).  I am templating a medical report and would typically use form field boxes, (in MS WOrd), for the areas where I will dictate text into at the time the reports are dictated.
    Any assistance appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dr. S.

    I think this is an unfortunate miscommunication of the term ”form," and I believe it has prematurely obstructed a proper answer to your problem.
    Pages can place and define text (or other media) in a template as a placeholder block. Unlike MS Word, it does not incorporate form controls or macros to achieve this functionality.
    You would position these placeholder blocks where they are needed within your document template. When you create a new document from this template, your boilerplate would have these embedded placeholder blocks, with their inherent instructions for content completion.

  • Acrobat XI programmatically reset/clear all form fields when opening a PDF form

    I've got a PDF form document that I'm working on.  I'd like to add something to it to programmatically clear or reset all form fields to blank when the document is opened.
    Thoughts/ideas??
    Mucho thanks!!

    You can use the resetForm JavaScript method, either in the initial page's Page Open event or in a document-level JavaScript whic will execute when the document is opened.

  • Why does the data disappear from my form fields when my form is sent over to client ?

    Hi all,
    I don't know if this is just happening a few times or ALL the time unfortunately:( I normally send over estimates (as regular pdfs) with some filled out Acrobat forms that make up part of the estimate (these include terms of agreement, project details, etc.). Now, before I send out the pdfs I password protect the entire pdf so that nothing can be changed, but that the pdf can be printed at high quality.
    Well, what is happening when my client opens up the pdf (usually on a Windows machine) is that NOTHING APPEARS in all of the form fields where I had input and saved the data! Yet when I open up the form on my Mac in Acrobat, or Reader or Preview, all looks just fine. Any idea why this is happening and what I could do to prevent it from happening in the future? I am using Acrobat X.
    Thank you kindly,
    Christine

    Hi Gilad,
    I never use Preview and did not use Preview at all before sending the document over to my most recent client either.
    I only opened Preview up this morning after I discovered that all of the form data had disappeared on his end! And the only reason I opened up Preview was because I already knew it looked fine in Acrobat so wanted so wanted to view the form in a different application.
    My client would not even have notified me about it had he not sent the signed form back to me and I saw there was no data there! I then called him and asked him about the missing data and he said that he thought I had simply sent over the form purposely with blank fields:(
    I have just emailed him to ask him what application he opened it up in. My understanding is that he is on Windows because ne mentioned to me his company was using Windows when we last spoke. Perhaps he has a personal Macbook where he opened it? I just don't know and can hopefully soon find out:)
    But THANK YOU for letting me know about that script! I appreciate it:) I have now downloaded and installed it and will just have to use it on ALL of my forms before sending them out:)

  • Blank form fields with data?

    I've created a form in Acrobat and sent it to a few people to test. When they send it back to me, some people say even though they saved their data, when it's previewed in their browser (email) it looks blank. When I receive forms sent back to me, the form appears blank, but when I click in the field, the answer appears.
    How can I fix the form so that no one is confused by a blank form after they fill it out? I'm not concerned about receiving the blank forms since there is data, I'm more concerned that a customer will see a blank form after they've filled it out and get frustrated.
    BTW, we've tried opening the forms returned to us in MAC and PC, same problem.
    Thanks,
    D

    The problem occurs when the Preview application on a Mac is used to fill-in the forms. It is well known the Preview corrupts PDFs in a number of ways and it should be absolutely avoided when using PDF forms. The damage it does to a document cannot be repaired, but you can open the corrupted form in Acrobat, export the form data (to an FDF or XFDF file), and import it back into a blank form. Then inform your users to use Adobe Reader and not Preview.
    Also, some PDF viewers (e.g., iOS's built-in viewer) have no support for PDF forms at all, so forms will appear blank when opened. The fix for this is to have them open the form in Adobe Reader. This is assuming the form was not corrupted with Preview.

  • Blank form fields

    Hi when opening a pdf form, that has been emailed to me, on an ipad all the fields are blank.  does anyone have a fix?

    Just to be certain, if you open the form in Adobe Reader for iOS, are the fields blank?
    There is a knwon bug in iOS itself, that it cannot properly display filled PDF forms. I was not aware that iAnnotate had that same bug, but if they use the iOS PDF rendering, they could have that issue as well. Adobe Reader for iOS uses our own PDF rendering, so we do not have the iOS deficiency.
    If this does not display form fields in Adobe Reader for iOS, then there may be some other problem. If this problem persists with Reader, if you could send the document to [email protected], we can take a look.

  • Inserting Form Fields in Pages Document

    Does anyone know if it is poossible to insert a form field into a pages document just like what can be done is a Word document?  I would like the ability to develop a template that has some drop-down menus throughout the document (for different variables) so I can reuse the template in various scenarios by simply selecting the appropriate info from each menu.
    Example:
    "Your time horizon is Menu Choice  (drop-down with: 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, greater than 10 years).
    I'll I've been able to find is the mail merge feature.  But I'm not looking to merge data from my contacts.

    No you can't lock the document. If you even lock the textboxes you can't type into them.
    I'm a supposed expert (I use countless DTP apps) and I don't find Pages easy at all. In fact for many tasks it is quite a kludge.
    But the templates are nice.

  • Reader-enabled form from Acrobat is retaining interactive form fields when user saves the form

    This is an issue that has only recently come up. In the past it was not a problem to take a pdf, add interactive form fields to it in LiveCycle, then open the form in Acrobat and enable usage rights for Reader users.
    This allowed Reader users to fill out the form and save the results. With the most recent versions of Acrobat and Reader the user saves the form and the data AND the interactive form fields are saved in the resulting file - meaning that the data is still there to be changed. Clearly not what we want and not what Acrobat and Reader were doing previously.
    The form does properly display "You can save data typed in this form" when opened in Reader.
    I have got no response to this issue in the LiveCycle forum, and nothing shows up in a search. I would very much like to fix this, as it is affecting our entire library of pdf forms.

    In most instances the form is linked on the website, so the original form will cannot be overwritten.
    In some cases we have to supply an interactive pdf for a department that they will then distribute by email to various groups who are expected to fill the form out on submit on an ongoing basis. That is what I was meaning by the user filling out the form, printing it, and then being prompted to save changes.
    The bigger issue is that most of our users expect to take a form hosted on the website, fill it out, and then save a pdf copy of their responses for reference. The reference copy is retaining the interactive fields rather than printing as a static pdf.
    If I could force the action of printing as a pdf (rather than saving as a pdf) on submission I think that would solve the issue. The script for most of the forms in the library is xfa.host.print(1, "0", (xfa.host.numPages -1).toString(), 0, 0, 0, 0, 0); and I am not aware of a way to force the print to only be to the pdf print driver.

  • Automatically displaying the error text for a form field when the validator fails?

    Hi,
    Flex 2 has a very nice feature to display custom text next to
    a form field whose validation failed. But the user has to move the
    mouse over the form field to display the text. Is there a way to
    invoke this feature programmatically?
    What I would like to do is validate form fields on submit and
    - if validation fails for a form field - set focus on that form
    field and automatically display the custom error text in the red
    blurb. Focusing works fine but I cant' get the text to render...

    Thanks Bregent.
    Weirdest thing...I just tried a Google search for a solution to this problem and came across another thread on this forum.  By the time I got to the bottom of it I realised one of those taking part was myself from years ago!  Jeesh, been here before or what!
    Changed my recordset to...
    <%
    Dim rsPROP__MMColParam
    rsPROP__MMColParam = "0"
    If (Request.Form("categoryID") <> "") Then
      rsPROP__MMColParam = Request.Form("categoryID")
    End If
    %>
    <%
    Dim rsPROP__MMColParam1
    rsPROP__MMColParam1 = "1"
    If (Request.Form("categoryID") <> "") Then
      rsPROP__MMColParam1 = Request.Form("categoryID")
    End If
    %>
    <%
    Dim rsPROP
    Dim rsPROP_cmd
    Dim rsPROP_numRows
    Set rsPROP_cmd = Server.CreateObject ("ADODB.Command")
    rsPROP_cmd.ActiveConnection = MM_cs_STRING
    rsPROP_cmd.CommandText = "SELECT prodid, product, categoryID FROM dbo.products WHERE ISNULL(?,0) = 0 OR categoryID = ?"
    rsPROP_cmd.Prepared = true
    rsPROP_cmd.Parameters.Append rsPROP_cmd.CreateParameter("param1", 5, 1, -1, rsPROP__MMColParam) ' adDouble
    rsPROP_cmd.Parameters.Append rsPROP_cmd.CreateParameter("param2", 5, 1, -1, rsPROP__MMColParam) ' adDouble
    Set rsPROP = rsPROP_cmd.Execute
    rsPROP_numRows = 0
    %>
    ...and it works fine.
    Appreciate the help. I would have taken your advice and done an If Else on the WHERE clause to acheive the same.
    Thank you.

  • Clear Signature unlocks form fields when using multiple signature fields

    I am having issues with putting multiple signature fields in a pdf document, and upon signing locking all but the unsigned signature fields. But when someone clears thier signature, it unlocks all the fields, but not the previously filled in signature fields. Is there an answer to that? Seems like a bug.
    I am using Acrobat pro x to create the document and save with extended features and require that the first signature locks all fields EXCEPT the remaining signature fields. This works ok until someone clears thier signature and all fields are unlocked and editable. But it DOES NOT clear the signature fields of the people who previously signed the document, which looks like anyone who wants can clear thier signature block and edit the form and the people who previously signed the document still have thier signatures on the modified document. Is this proper functionality?

    I have multiple machines using outlook 2010 that are reporting that the To: field is appearing blank and it's only when an attachment is included. All other messages appear fine.  Is this by design?, can it be altered?, or am I missing something.
    All are Win 7 machines collecting from Imap servers, if that helps.
