Need help at date format while creating External Tables from Flat file
Hi All,
I have a flat file generated from SQL Server 2005. In that generated flat file the date format is in the format as "YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS.Millisec" like example "2007-09-08 13:32:36.568".
My task is I have to load this flat file data into Oracle database table running on 9i, but its failing at the creation of external table itself because of this date format. The target table in Oracle the date column data type is "date" only not the "TIMESTAMP".
Can any body suggest how to resolve this?
Thanks,
Sankar
Or:
SQL> select cast(to_timestamp('2007-09-08 13:32:36.568',
2 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss.xff') as date) dt

Creating external table - from a file with multiple field separators
I need to create an external table from a flat file containing multiple field separators (",", ";" and "|").
Is there any way to specifiy this in the CREATE TABLE (external) statement?

Error while Creating External definition with WSDL file
Hi ALL,
I need to create a External defination with a WSDL file in PI 7.1.so i selected the Option WSDL & From all available message defination while creating External defination & imported the WSDL file.
I am getting an error

Note : i checked the WSDl file in altova its no error's ,i know there is no problem with the WSDL file ,i tried importing the same in other XI 3.0 system it has no problem.
help me in solving this ..
Regards
ShakeifHi Tony,
Somehow I solved this issue. I dont remember what exactly I did, as it was sometime back in December. I think I used the Wizard initially to do the configurations in Solution Manager and again i tried to do the same manually as the earlier one threw some errors.
It seems the wizard proceeded half-way through and hence the entry was made in the database already and hence that error.
Anyways thank you for replying me.

Error while loading table from flat file (.csv)
I have a flat file which i am loading into a Target Table in Oracle Warehouse Builder. It uses SQL Loader Internally to load the data from flat file, I am facing an issue. Please find the following error ( This is an extract from the error log generated)
SQL*Loader-500: Unable to open file (D:\MY CURRENT PROJECTS\GEIP-IHSS-Santa Clara\CDI-OWB\Source_Systems\Acquisition.csv)
SQL*Loader-552: insufficient privilege to open file
SQL*Loader-509: System error: The data is invalid.
SQL*Loader-2026: the load was aborted because SQL Loader cannot continue.
I believe that this is related to SQL * Loader error.
ACtually the flat file resides in my system ( D:\MY CURRENT PROJECTS\GEIP-IHSS-Santa Clara\CDI-OWB\Source_Systems\Acquisition.csv). I am connecting to a oracle server.
Please suggest
Is it required that i need to place the flat file in Oracle Server System ??
Regards,
Ashoka BLHi
I am getting an error as well which is similar to that described above except that I get
SQL*Loader-500: Unable to open file (/u21/oracle/owb_staging/WHITEST/source_depot/Durham_Inventory_Labels.csv)
SQL*Loader-553: file not found
SQL*Loader-509: System error: The system cannot find the file specified.
SQL*Loader-2026: the load was aborted because SQL Loader cannot continue.
The difference is that Ashoka was getting
SQL*Loader-552: insufficient privilege to open file
and I get
SQL*Loader-553: file not found
The initial thought is that the file does not exist in the directory specified or I have spelt the filename incorrectly it but this has been checked and double checked. The unix directory also has permission to read and write.
Also in the error message is
Control File: C:\u21\oracle\owb_staging\WHITEST\source_depot\INV_LOAD_LABEL_INVENTORY.ctl
Character Set WE8MSWIN1252 specified for all input.
Data File: /u21/oracle/owb_staging/WHITEST/source_depot/Durham_Inventory_Labels.csv
Bad File: C:\u21\oracle\owb_staging\WHITEST\source_depot\Durham_Inventory_Labels.bad
As can be seen from the above it seems to be trying to create the ctl and bad file on my c drive instead of on the server in the same directory as the .csv file. The location is registered to the server directory /u21/oracle/owb_staging/WHITEST/source_depot
I am at a lost as this works fine in development and I have just promoted all the development work to a systest environment using OMBPlus.
The directory structure in development is the same as systest except that the data file is /u21/oracle/owb_staging/WHITED/source_depot/Durham_Inventory_Labels.csv and everything works fine - .ctl and .bad created in the same directory and the data sucessfully loads into a oracle table.
Have I missed a setting in OWB during the promotion to systest or is there something wrong in the way the repository in the systest database is setup?
The systest and development databases are on the same box.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks

Changes in date format while creating/downloading the file
Hi All,
Can any one let me know how does the system determines which date format should it apply while creating/downloading the file.
Issue :
When I create/download the file generated by report RTXWCF02 using unix level acess the Date format of a field in file is DD.MM.YYYY where as in user profile i can see its in MM/DD/YYYY.
I dont understand how system determines the date format and How we can change it. Please suggest.

Ravi KasnaleI would suggest you to use ALV_XXL_CALL if your want to keep your data formats intact.
like this - CALL FUNCTION 'ALV_XXL_CALL'

Need help with date format mask
Hi there, right now I'm trying to set a default date format mask constraint for one of the attributes for my table. I want to set the default mask constraint as MM/DD/YY but I don't know how to. it should be something like:
CREATE TABLE work (WorkDate DATE CHECK (WorkDate = 'MM/DD/YY'))
or something like that, but I don't think that's correct. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.What you want (and should have done) is to read the documentation, starting with the concepts:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/datatype.htm#CNCPT413
http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/search?remark=quick_search&word=date&tab_id=&format=ranked
A date is stored as, well, a date, format masks only come into play when you're selecting/retrieving a date or when you want to store a string as a date. Default date formats can be set through NLS_DATE_FORMAT at session and database level.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/initparams122.htm#REFRN10119

Hi,
I need to print date in the following format:
Jan 21, 2007
11:23 AM 21/01/2007
21-01-2007 18:23
Now as per condition of assignment the year, month, day and hour, min, sec all are entered as separate integer values.
my code:
import java.util.*;
import java.text.*;
public class stringToDate
// Integer value of date and time variables
int day=21;
int month = 1;
int year=07;
int hour=18;
int min=23;
int sec=14;
// Converting integer value into date
public void convertIntoDate()
String strTmp= day+"/"+month+"/"+year+" "+hour+":"+min+":"+sec;
System.out.println("String: " + strTmp);
DateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm:ss");
try
Date outDate = dateFormat.parse(strTmp);
System.out.println("Converted: " + dateFormat.format(outDate));
catch(Exception e){ System.out.println("Exception: " + e);}
public static void main(String args[]) {
stringToDate dF = new stringToDate();
dF.convertIntoDate();
}Now as per my code i am able to print in the following format:
String: 21/1/7 18:23:14
Converted: 21/01/0007 18:23:14
But if i try to print in other formats it gives me following error message:
Exception: java.text.ParseException: Unparseable date: "21/1/07"

RaviWhere can we find that directory in the server. You have to provide for it's existence.
So you must create C:/Oracle on the server or have your ext_tab_dir point to some existing directory on the server (better if dedicated to external tables for not creating confusion)
You must also see to have read and write OS rights and have granted read (and write) privileges on directory ext_tab_dir to your_user_name
Regards
Etbin
If you can use utl_file try to use utl_file_dir as your ext_tab_dir to perform the test => copy your file to the directory your utl_file_dir is pointing to and do select * from test

DATE format - while defining the table column
Hi Friends,
I came across a piece of code which was applying a TO_DATE() function on a date type column.
I have two tables t1 and t2 and they have col1 and col2 columns respectively of type DATE
t1
col1 DATE
t2
col2 DATEalso there is a variable var1 and is defined as below:
var1 DATE;now I have conditions as below in the code:
AND to_date(t1.col1,'dd/mm/yyyy') = to_date(t2.col2,'dd/mm/yyyy')
AND to_date(t1.col1,'dd/mm/yyyy') = to_date(var1,'dd/mm/yyyy')This code failed on Production with an error: ORA-01861 literal does not match format string
I changed the code to remove TO_DATE() and it worked fine. Dev clarified that they used this function so that if the two columns or variable are in diff date format.,..they can be put in sync.
e.g. if col1 is dd/mm/yyyy and col2 is mm/dd/yyyy then there will be an issue.
My doubt is.. in a given environment if we are creating a table and defining a column of type DATE , or defining a variable of type DATE, can their format be different at any time? I think No.?
In what scenario can the date format be different?
Thanks,Having said that date format is only for display purposes, if you tend to avoid the error without changing the code then you can modify the NLS_DATE_FORMAT parameter at session level.
SQL> alter session set nls_date_format = 'dd-mm-yyyy'

Single date dimension while creating Aggregate tables
hi Guys ,
I have single date dimension(D1-D) with key as date_id and granularity is day-level. I have fact table(F1-D) which gives daily transactions . Now i created three aggregate tables with F2-M(aggregated to monthly),F3-Q(Aggregated to quarterly),F4-Y(Aggregated to yearly). As I said.I have a single date dimension table with date-id as a key.I have other columns month,quarter,year in Date dimension.
My question is : Is this single dimension table is enough to create the joins and maintain the BMM layer .I have joined the date_id to all the facts in physical layer. In BMM Layer i have one fact and 4 logical table sources .Ii have created dimension hierarchy on Date dimension and created the logical levels as year ,quarter,month and daily level and also set their respective level keys . Now after doing these i have also set the logical levels to the 4 logical table sources in the fact table.
Here i am getting an error saying :
WARNINGS:
BUSINESS MODEL Financial Model:
[39059] Logical dimension table D04_DIM_DATE has a source D04_DIM_DATE at level D04_DIM_DATE Detail that joins to a higher level fact source F02_FACT_GL_DLY_TRAN_BAL.F03_FACT_GL_PERIOD_TRAN_BAL
Can anyone tell me why am i getting this error .1) as you suggest, creating mini dimension tables for each level
3) using views with select distinct x,y,z to model 1) but without the need for phsical tables
I have thought of these scenarios .But it's just creating a multiple Date Dimension tables with there respective grains if we follow 1 and 3 steps you mentioned.
But i don't want to create aliases or views either on Datawarehouse or physical layer (Admin tool).Just with using a single Date Dimension table I need to comeup with a solution as mentioned by my Colleagues.
2) pushing all the calendar attributes into the aggreate table (eg your year aggregate has all the year fields, your month aggregate has all the year fields and all the month fields etc.). Then in BM&M use the aggregate table as a logical table source for the date logical table.
What do you mean by "pushing all the calendar attributes into the aggreate table".If possible can you eloborate a bit so i can try in this way to get this done .
One morething .Here What they were saying is .Join the Single Date Dimension to all the 4 fact tables in Physical layer . Then drag all the tables into the BMM layer and create a Dimensional hierarchies for the Date dimension with levels as Year -->Quarter--> Month--> day level. With the Fact tables: Single fact tables with multiple logical table sources .Then we need to set the levels on the respective logical table sources with the desired levels .Say monthly aggregate table--> Month, Quarter Aggregate table--> quarter level in the Contents TAB.
When i do this I am getting the Warning:
WARNINGS:
BUSINESS MODEL Financial Model:
[39059] Logical dimension table D04_DIM_DATE has a source D04_DIM_DATE at level D04_DIM_DATE Detail that joins to a higher level fact source F02_FACT_GL_DLY_TRAN_BAL.F03_FACT_GL_PERIOD_TRAN_BAL -
Error while creating process chain for flat file loading
Hi All,
I had Created a process Chain to load Transactiion data(Full load) form flat file which is in my computer.
start>Load>DTP>DeleteIndex>DTP loading CUBE--> Create Index
but the system is throwing an error as "An upload from the client workstation in the background is not possible."
I dont know why this error is coming?
Can some one help me
Regards
MamtaHi Mamta,
Basically if you want to load the DS through FF using process chain, the FF has to be placed in Application server. We cant load the FF when it is located in the client local workstation(FF On your PC).
So better you remove the Infopackage step from the PC. Load the IP manually. Once it is completed you can start the process chain with the following steps:
start>DTP>DeleteIndex>DTP loading CUBE> Create Index
Hope it is clear & helpful!

Can we create external table from an existing database table ?
Hi everyone,
As i understand, its possible to create a new table based on an existing table without copying any values from it, using the following command;
CREATE TABLE newtable AS
(SELECT * FROM oldtable WHERE 1=2);
I would like to know whether we can do a similar thing with external tables. That is to create an external table with the same columns as of an existing table.
Thanks in advance for your answers.You need to clear conception about external table.
