Need help-problem importing excel files

I am about to begin work on an annual report that will involve importing charts and tables from an Excel file. I am able to drag and drop the pie charts and bar graphs into Indesign. When I try to do the same with the tables, they don't come across. When I import the excel file using the "place" command in Indesign , the files comes through as text only. I need the chart design and formatting. Any ideas?

If this is going to press then you absolutely should bring those charts into Illustrator. At the very least you want to make sure to convert the RGB black text to real black.
As for the tables, when you place the Excel file, make sure that show options is selected in the place dialog box. Then choose the proper formatting for the table. If you already formatted everything in Excel, choose Formatted Table. I think you'll be fairly pleased.

I am new to SSIS. I found one poster have similar issue and inside the posted below, there was one suggestion to create variable and connection string but how do I bind that variable to Excel Connection manger.
Please help.

According to your description, you created ssis package to export data from database to excel, when the package runs, you want to create new excel and name the file with time stamp. If that is the case, we can achieve the goal by following steps:
Create a script task used to create excel files.
Create a data flow task to export data from database to excel.
Add OLE DB source to data flow task.
Add Excel Destination to data flow task.
Create connection manager for OLE DB and Excel.
Click Excel Connection Manager, in Properties window, click (…) button next to Expressions, then set ExcelFilePath with expression like below:
"C:\\ETL Lab\\CreateNewExcel\\ExportData_"+REPLACE((DT_STR, 20, 1252)(DT_DBTIMESTAMP)@[System::StartTime], ":", "")+".xls"

Problem with Excel file import

Hi,
I am trying the DIAdem 10 Eval and I want to import Excel files with huge amount of data. One file has text headers as
index    x         y
1          0.58    7.22
2          0.55    6.33
3          0.77    8.34
and another one doesn't have the text headers. Both have three columns and more than 100K rows of data. But I failed to load any of them. The error is "Cannot open Excel file". Any idea what's wrong?

Hi David,
I have a thought, but I don't know if it will work-- that is to read the Excel file out using the ADO data base connection that Microsoft provides for Excel files. There is, in fact, already a DataPlugin on www.ni.com/dataplugins which does this for both Excel and Access files. I'm attaching the DataPlugin below. You just need to detach the *.uri file to your hard drive, then double-click on it with Windows Explorer to register the DataPlugin (you'll get a short "registration succeeded" dialog).
Then in DIAdem-NAVIGATOR right-click on the bloated Excel file and select "Open with..." from the context menu. Then select the "ADO" DataPlugin to use in the loading process. The DataPlugin expects the first line of the Excel file to either contain the name of each column/channel or to contain the first value of each column/channel.
I'm cautiously optimistic that this will work,

Please be more specific. What Premiere project? What version of Premiere? Which operating system? What CoDecs do the QT fiels use? Are all the video files in the correct folders inside the Premiere project structure? Your description sounds like you are attempting to open a Mac based project on a PC and your video files are either in the wrong location or use a Mac-specific CoDec, hence they cannot be read on a PC.

Importing excel files - problem with single quote

When importing excel files using 1.5, I can't get data with single quotes (') imported.
When I run the insert statement given in SQLPlus I get "ORA-01756: quoted string not properly terminated", which is different than the error that SQL Developer gives me (see below).
Also, I have a numeric value shown without a thousands comma-separator in the XLS file that I'm trying to load into a varchar2 field. But, the insert statements have added a thousands comma-separator which I don't want.

im having problems importing prores files at correct frame rate. they have been converted to prores at 25fps but on importing they appear in fcp as 30fps. any help would be appreciated.

I don't know anything about Wondershare. But it seems something may have got messed up in the conversion. Or maybe there is an identifier on the converted clip that has FCP confused and it really is 25 fps.
To begin, your sequence settings don't match your clips. You want a Pro Res sequence. Let FCP set this automatically by dragging a Pro Res to an empty sequence and when gives you a message asking whether you want the sequence to match the clips, click yes. Then hit command 0 again and see whether the frame rate is set at 30 or 25.
If it really is 30, then it will need to be converted and re-imported. It can be done in Compressor or in Cinema Tools. If you have used Cinema Tools before, great. Of not, I'll defer to others because it's been a while and I don't want to mess you up.

Problems importing .mov file

I am all of a sudden having problems importing .mov files from my camera in iPhoto '08. Can't get them to import in Image Capture either...On the import preview screen, all that comes up are empty "boxes". If I highlight one of the boxes, it shows that it is .mov file, the size of the file, etc. but if i try to do the import, iPhoto just locks up.

iPhoto does not like very large movie files for importing directly from the camera. If you get it on the desktop you should be able to import it. I've imported 200MB movies with no problem.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Importing excel file into OBIEE 10.1.3.4

I am trying to import excel file into OBIEE and would like to use it as a data source. Fro this, I have already created an excel file (using MS excel 2007) with some sample data and named the data ranges with in the excel sheet as well. and I have placed that file under C:\ drive directly. And then created DSN and made sure that it points to the excel file.
When I go to Administration tool -> Import from Database -> seelct ODBS 3.5 and selected my DSN and clicked OK. Here I have not provided the user name and password (though I have provided the username/pwd as Administrator it is not taking).
when I click ok, it is throwing the following error :
nQSerror:16001 ODBC error state : IM006 code: 0 message: [Microsoft][ODBCDriver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed. [nQSError: 16001]ODBC error state: S1000 code - 5015 message: [Microsoft][ODBC Excel Driver] External table is not in the expected format

Hi, I am facing the same issue.
I am using OBIEE 11g with MS Excel 2007 file as source. I have created ODBC Driver by selecting Microsoft excel driver.
NQSAdminTool.log gives error:
ODBC error state: S1000 code: -5015 message: [Microsoft][ODBC Excel Driver] External table is not in the expected format
The Admin tool gives error: "Unable to connect database using connection pool", when I try to 'update row count' in Physical Layer.
Any quick resolution to this?

than imported the Excel using the import from database tool in the Oracle BI Adminstration. I see the Excel but i can't see data in it. Can you help me, please? I'm new in this.

Did you enter a range in excel file?
The range represents table name in the physical layer after you import excel file.

Did you use import from database and select excel data source that you created in ODBC?
I did the same and works for me.
Save repository first and view data and check connection pool/data source name in your excel database folder.

Problems importing .mov files

can anyone help with importing .mov files. i have had success importing one .mov file but there are others that just produce this error message:
file error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknow.
i get the info on both the imported file and the one that is having a problem and all their information looks the same. can anyone help? thanks

I'm having problems importing .mp3 files to itunes, it's importing the song name tage with "artist - song title" when it should just be the song title?

Glad to hear that Steve's script was helpful.
As to the bug, I don't know. The problem you report is not common. Usually when iTunes displays artist-title in the Name field, it is either an untagged MP3 or a WAV file, but in those cases it does not correct itself when you give it a kick. Between that and the non-refresh problem you report, I think there is something else going on besides a tagging issue. At your convenience, you may want to reinstall the newest iTunes, and see if it helps.
