Need PCI Express Sound Card

I have a pair of Creative Inspire 6.1 (6600) Series Speakers. (the ones with the 3 audio jacks for the surround speakers)
I need a decent sound card that will fit my new shiny Mac Pro. So far I haven't been able to find anything.
Looking for around $100.

Only problem with this one is, I don't think there is any Mac drivers for it.
Any recommendations would be grateful, thanks!

Couple problems..
The only PCIe cards for Mac are pro-level big $
I don't think Creative has ever made a Mac driver
There are Firewire interfaces that will give you multi channel output....
But there are not many applications on the Mac that are coded to use surround sound. About the only thing is DVD player.. No games, iTunes, etc are surround enabled. I've never really understood why this is, but that's the way...
The optical output will stream encoded surround (for DVDs), but whatever you connect it too needs to do the decoding. Most home stereo receivers will do this..

  • No Raid BIOS on nforce 650i (x4 PCI-express raid card)

    Ok, here is my problem:
I can not, for the life of me, get this PCI-Express raid card to show the raid's BIOS screen (or get my BIOS to see the controller so I can boot off it). Basically this is needed to setup the array, see the array status when the system boots, and boot off the array, etc.. If I was running windows I would be totally screwed for booting off the array but with linux I can boot off of it as I can load the kernel (only the kernel) with the drivers on it from another boot drive and boot off the array.
I had to put the raid controller in another one of my comps (had to put a PCI vid card in that one as it only had one PCI-E x16 slot) to setup the initial array. The controller works perfectly fine with this mobo (as it is detected/acessible from linux) the only problem is when my system POST's I have no way to manage the RAID array which is quite annoying. I already tried updating to the newest BIOS for my mobo and I think it is something specific with this mobo or something as I had no problems using my sister's comp which is an AM2 socket mobo (also nforce chipset) which is the same brand (MSI).
Some things I have tried already:
Upgrading to the newest BIOS version
Taking out the geforce 8600 gt and putting in  a PCI vid card and trying the raid controller in each of the x16 PCI-E slots (running in x8 mode because the board is set to SLI mode (the raid controller requires atleast a x4 slot).
Any ideas or am I SOL?
Also, maybe this should be in the BIOS section?

Just thought I would mention, this board as listed as a compatible product for my mobo here:
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodtestreport&prod_no=1141&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170&cat3_no=#menu
If you click on SCSI controllers it gives you a link to here:
    http://global.msi.com.tw/uploads/test_report/TR2_1141.pdf
And my card is listed on the very bottom entry of that pdf file. Not having any access to the RAID controller's BIOS is pretty lame.

  • Will OSX support Adaptec PCI Express scsi cards in an early 2008 Mac Pro?

I need to move my scsi interface scanner from a G4 machine and the old PCI Adaptec AHA 2930 CU card won't fit.  I was using Snow Leopard on the G4 unit - it still supported the Adaptec card and all was good.  My 23" Cinema display then bit the dust and I replaced it with with a 24" Cinema display with the mini display port connector.  I purchased an adapter from Kanex to make it compatible, but the adapter was defective - so I returned it.  Their reviews aren't very good - seem to have a lot of D.O.A. adapters - not sure I want to deal with the frustration, but it would be the least expensive option.
I do have, however, an early 2008 Mac Pro that I can use, provided that it supports the newer PCI Express scsi cards that Adaptec makes.  I'm not sure which one to get yet, either.  I'd rather not buy one and find out it won't work.  I can make a partition on the boot drive for Snow Leopard in case scsi isn't supported in later versions of OSX.  In case you're wondering, I did use a scsi to firewire adapter to run the scanner on my laptop for a while - but it stopped working and I can't locate any replacements (or the company - 2nd Wave Technologies - for that matter).  I haven't tried locating a scsi to usb adapter, but from what I can see, they are getting pretty scarce.  I'd replace the scanner, but it is fairly pricey and the newest model retails at the price of a small car - so that really isn't an option at this point.
Thanks in advance for any info.

Changed name of display adapter manufacturer.

Thanks for the response - I guess the question I should have asked is "Will OSX support scsi cards in an early 2008 Mac Pro and if so, which ones?"  I didn't realize Apple and Adaptec weren't working together - my G4 tower arrived with an Adaptec card in it when I bought it in 2000 (from a third party vendor, not directly from Apple).  It came with either OS 8.* or OS 9.  When I updated to OSX, everything continued working, so I didn't think much about it until I pondered using the Mac Pro for the scanner - at some point the G4 is going to stop working - need to have a solution before that happens.  The manuals I've been reading refer to the slots in the G4 machines as PCI.  The manual for the Mac Pro refers to the slots as PCI e.  These slots have fewer connectors, so I thought that the "Express" part of the name referred to this particular card configuration when compared to the longer card connectors in the G4 type of machines.
Can you tell me what scsi card brands will work in the Mac Pro?  I'd still like to pursue this option.  As I mentioned in my original post, buying a new scanner isn't in the cards right now - it costs more than the computer, so, although pricey, the card option is still less expensive.
    Thanks!

  • PCI Express video cards

Does anyone know of any cheap PCI Express video cards.
I need a second video card for a G5 Powermac that's arriving soon but have not been able to find anything reasonably priced.

Where did u get this information?
I ask as before, if u tried to put a ATI 9200 in the
PCI slot, with an AGP card, your computer would
freeze, lose audio, or some other weird mess.
So basically, apple has said, hey ya! you can have
    multiple cards now
You can't compare an AGP/PCI-X Mac with a PCIe Mac. The PCIe bus should handle multiple cards better.
Even on Linux I've run into issues with mixing AGP and PCI graphics cards. It's possible but it's not plug and play. With PCIe it's different.

Thanks for the update although this I had personally worked this out myself. Surely this card is to be released globally soon as it has started to pop up in stores available for pre-order. Any ideas on the release date and what will be the differences?
I have tried to compare it to the <span class="text">Fatalty version to find no difference other than cosmetic. I even went into the FAQ page only to get this:

    WHi,
It would help if you can provide the exact error message or a screenshot.
You might want to find out from the seller if this sound card came pre-installed along with the PC (OEM) or if he purchased it separately. Alternati'vely, please provide the model number of the sound card.

  • What is the BEST cable connection from Canopus ADVC 300 to Black Magic Intensity Pro HDMI PCI Express Capture Card?

I must connect an ADVC 300 to a Black Magic Intensity Pro HDMI PCI Express Capture Card.   For best quality, which cable should I use?
On the ADVC 300 there are outputs of firewire, S-VHS and RCA.
On BMPro it's a little confusing. On the breakout cable there are connectors that say:
    -5 B-Y OUT
    -4 Y OUT
    -3-R-Y OUT
    -7-R-Y IN
    -8-Y IN
    -9 B-Y IN
    -15 AUDIO IN RIGHT
    -10 AES/EBU OUT
    -12 AUDIO LEFT OUT
    -14 AUDIO LEFT OUT
    -13 AUDIO RIGHT OUT
With the BMPro, there is also a separate, shorter cable.  On one end it looks like S-VHS and on the other there are two connectors, one black and one blue.
On the actual BMPro Express card strip instead of using the breakout cable, there is HDMI IN (and HDMI OUT).
How should I connect this?  Is there an adapter cable of FIREWIRE TO HDMI?
    Any help is much appreciated.

Well, when I researched how best to digitize VHS (into Final Cut Pro 7), I learned two of the best devices to use are BMPro and Canopus ADVC 300.  I’m using the ADVC 300 for the built-in time base corrector.  I definitely want to use that to stabilize the video.  I also read how well BMPro improves image quality.  So, I thought to use the two together must produce outstanding quality (well, as good as VHS can be).
Perhaps I got confused into thinking I can use both.  But the BMPro appears to have an S-VHS adapter.
I guess I’m wondering what is better quality:
Run the firewire from the Canopus ADVC 300 converter directly into the firewire port on the Mac Pro
Or, run an S-VHS cable from the Canopus ADVC 300 into the BMPro Capture card
(I should mention that I have purchased all these items and already have the BMPro Card installed so at this point it’s not a cost issue, but rather an issue of simply which works best?)

what is the intended usage or practical usage for that 3rd slot?
Also, kindly enquire if 3 ways SLI really feasible and any driver is released and tested to support it?

thank you. i do like this motherboard, very nice layout and the circu-pipe in particular. lack of sata ports has been compensated by purchasing a 4 sata ports controller card. if the third pcie x8 is a pcie x1 slot, that will be even better.

great to hear that. like that, i can consider buying the Asustek Xonar D2X Audio Card PCI-E as the green indicated pcie x8 is my only unoccupied slot after using 2  gfxs (2 slots) and 1 sata controller pci card.
    thank for your prompt reply.

  • Z68A-G45 (G3): BIOS screen unreadable on PCI express graphics card

    I have a Z68A-G45 (G3) board with Intel Core i3-2320T processor.  BIOS version is E7750IMS v11.2.
When entering the BIOS setup screen with DEL, everything is fine when the display is connected to the motherboard HDMI port.
When I plug in my MSI Nvidia 8500GT-based PCI express video card and connect the display to its HDMI (or DVI) port, the BIOS screen is corrupt and almost unreadable.  I can see some characters and images -- the BIOS is there, I can see the temperature readout -- but navigation is very difficult.  This problem occurred with BIOS version 11.0; I just flashed to 11.2 and the problem persists.
    Here's what it looks like
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Steve

In case anybody's curious it turns out the issue was specific to the card.  I tried a different PCIe card and the BIOS screen showed up fine.
So finally I ditched my old reliable nVidia card and used the Sandy Bridge integrated graphics instead.  No problems so far.

  • Can I add a PCI Express eSATA card to my G5

    Greetings Everyone,
I am a long time Mac User but I must confess I am not really a "power user" I use my mac to edit my gigs and thats about it. I have acquired a 6TB G-Raid External SATA drive with tons of footage and I need to be able to interface my G5 PPC to it. I need to add a ESATA card to my rig so I can get to that footage. Please, Please, Please help! If anyone can suggest a card that will work I would be so very happy! I would be happier still if it was affordable!

  • Desktop is not defaulting to PCI Express video card

Installed a Nvidia GTX 560TI w/appropriate power supply AFTER disabling secure boot and enabling legacy support.  The computer booted to the video card after the second try reboot, drivers successfully installed.  Later after attempting to wake the computer from sleep it has defaulted back to the onboard video WITHOUT restarting.  Now will not recognize PCI express card.

    Hi,
What power supply are your using?  The stardard HP 460 watt power supply is insufficient for the NVIDIA 560 TI as it requires two 6 pin PCI-E power connectors.
Go back into the BIOS and make sure that Legacy mode is enabled and Secure boot is disabled. Save the changes and power off. Now power up and see if the system recognizes the discrete video card.
BTW - the PC needs to completely power down and back up before the BIOS will rescan for hardware changes.
