Need to search USB ports for upgrades to custom LV program

Has anyone done this before:
I need to provide upgrades/maintenance to a piece of custom LV code that will be in the field. The program needs to check if any external disk devices (memory stick, cd, hard drive, etc) are connected to any USB port and if so copy the upgrades to their appropriate directory. Any suggestions or better ways of doing this would greatly be appreciated.

The List Directory function will probably be the easiest way to check the current directory info of your system. Attached below is an example VI that prompts the user when it finds a new drive.
Good luck with development.

  • I need lots of USB ports with New Mac Pro, now what?

because I'm in the audio business I needs lot of USB ports with my Mac Pro. On my current 2008 machine, that's not really an issue, with 5 ports on teh MP itself and I installed some USB hubs over PCIe that give me a total of 13 port. I'm not really sure what is the best way to get that amount on the new MP.
Oh, and I really like the stability of my current set up. Before I went with an external USB Hub that always gave me headaches with ports not being recognized.

The only two things I found so far are:
a/ going back to the external USB hubs, which I find very frustrating to work with, because instable with connection and I would need to add some interface to go from USB to TB (which are also rather expensive at the moment)
b/ use some external PCIe enclosures that are really expensive.
So I havent really found the right solution for my situation. Which makes me hesitant to migrate to new MP at the moment.

  • Splitting the Time Capsule USB port for 2 devices ??

So if i have and external HD plugged into tc usb port and I also need to plug in a netflix ready blue ray player to the same port- is there a splitter I can buy to do this or what other options do i have?
I have an extra airport extreme I am not using-could I run an ethernet cord to it and use that usb port for my second device without and problems?
    Thx

First, yes it is possible to attach multiple devices to the TC's USB port. You will need a USB hub though. Some users have discovered that not all hubs are compatible with the TCs USB port. So you may need to shop around if the first one doesn't work.
However, the USB port on the TC is designed primarily to handle external HDs or printers. That is, it is designed to make them available to your local network, not to the internet. So I have doubts that the BR player will be able to have full interest access via the TCs USB port.

I need a wireless usb adaptor for a Power Mac G4... any suggestions? (needs to be compatible)

With Mac OS X 10.3 or higher, a number of USB Wi-Fi adapters would be possible to use. However, for an earlier operating system, a wireless Ethernet bridge (such as the examples below) can be a better (and sometimes the only) option. A wireless Ethernet bridge does not normally require special drivers, and can thus be used with almost any Ethernet-equipped computer.

If all your ports are in use, try buying a USB hub, they are inexpensive and will give you several more ports.  Google for them.

  • Which USB port for extra power for external Superdrive?

I just bought an external USB slimline optical drive that doesn't use AC power, instead it comes with a USB Y-connector so that it can use two USB ports for power.  I can't really spare the extra port.  I read that the Mac mini 2011 is compatible with the Apple USB Superdrive.  It does this by supplying additional power over USB, like the MacBook Air.  I've tried my drive with just a single port and it powers on and can do some stuff, but suddenly it'll crap out and the OS will tell me the disk was removed without being ejected.  I've determined it's a power issue.  Does anyone know which port in particular the extra power is delivered through?  I'd test myself, but I'm afraid I may be damaging the optical drive when it craps out.
    Thanks

I'd get a good AC high powered USB Hub...

  • Low power on USB port for external hard drive

    Hi all!
I'm new here and I have some question about my brand new hybrid - HP Envy x2.
Couple days ago i found an issue that usb ports are powered by from motherboard even when tablet with dock is turned off or in hibernation mode. This is problematic when I leave device with plugged usb hub, external HD, speakers (powered from usb port) and mouse. After 8 hours in work when I go back home I saw that battery is about 10-15% lower than before leaving Envy x2. I disabled USB charge mode in BIOS, but after that I have problem with working of my external HD.
When I try to attach hard drive to computer and then I try to turn it on nothing happens - looks like system (Windows 8.1) can't boot. But after immediate unplugging HDD from USB system goes to procedure of starting. I also tried to plug Toshiba HD after turning on my Envy x2 and being in desktop, but nothing happens. Light on HD is blinking, I can hear from it sound like clicking (trying to start?). Also HD is visible in Device Manager but not in My Computer (as additional partition).
I have tried to change boot options in BIOS by positioning of devices (priority to boot from CD ROM, HDD, OS etc.) but did not fixed problem.
After couple of tests provided to found why my HD did not work properely in disabled USB charge mode I know that USB port did not give minimum value of power from supply. I found cable with one plug on one side, and with two plugs on other side (like "Y" type). Then i plugged one end into first USB port, then second end in second USB port and finally - last end of cable to m HD and booooom! It works!
Here is my question: Is there any ability to change that kind of power supply on USB ports? I want to power mu external hard drive from one USB port, not from two. I have USB hub but don't want to use two USB ports (on the opposite positions of docking station) and additional USB cable. I have the most recent BIOS (F12) and all fresh drivers installed on my computer.
    Any solutions?

I am not going to take credit for this. I had a similar problem, but all of my USB ports stopped working for EVERYTHING! You were right on track, and here is the final bit of information that you needed: Microsoft Surface tablet External USB hard drives auto-sleep in Windows 8.1 Posted on November 4, 2013 After upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Pro, my SeaGate Expansion 2TB hard drive always runs to sleep mode automatically and then disappears if no file transfers occur. when I try to access its stored files, the File Explorer will be unresponsive. Changing the power options is not working. In Windows 8.1 the external USB hard drives and USB flash drives are configured with a low power state by default. That causes USB massstorage devices auto-sleep or file transfers stop unexpectedly. You could change the hardware ID of USB storage device in the registry to resolve the problem. * Updated to the latest firmware for the device to check if it is fine. * From Start screen, open the Search charm, type regedit, right-click the regedit icon from result, and select “Run as administrator“. * In the left pane of Registry Editor, navigate to the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\usbstor * Right-click the “usbstor” and create a key with the following key name: apricorn (aegis padlock) 09840315 buffalo external hdd 500gb 04110105 cavalry dual bay dock 152d2352 diskgenie usb device 09840092 hitachi touro 3.0 4tb usb 3.0 49711015 kingston datatraveler hyperx 3.0 usb device 256gb (dthx30/256gb) 0951162b lacie 2tb usb drive 059f1018 mediasonic h82-su3s2 probox 152d0539 multi-drive enclosure connected 15200551 seagate expansion 2tb 0bc23320 seagate expansion desk 3tb 0bc23312 seagate fa goflex desk 2tb 0bc25071 verbatim store ‘n’ save superspeed 3tb 18a50400 western digital elements desktop 2tb 10581021 western digital my book 2to 10581140 * Now right-click the new key, create a DWORD entry named DeviceHackFlags with 400 hexadecimal value. * Make a reconnection for the device. 190.36.1.1 is probably the WAN address of your firewall which will then be NAT to your server
So currently from outside your network, if you browse 190.36.1.1:8008 you would then reach your remote management screen.
This is therefore not the correct IP address, you need the internal LAN address of the server to enter into your workstation NW Client box

You assume good, but I leave Tree blank, the context blank and in fieldserver I use the address Ip 190.36.1.1, that is the ip addressconfigured for the conection with the remote manager of Novell(190.36.1.1:8008).
I think that the config that I need is in the server.

  • Cannot get my iMac chooser to acknowledge the USB port for  Epson SP 700

I have an old iMac (that looks like a big blue bubble) with OS 9.2. I have an Epson Stylus Photo 700 that I’ve had since 1998.
I have a set of 9 year old triplets that I want to set the two up together! I’m thinking Good Luck…because I have tried everything. I downloaded the Epson drivers, bought a USB/Parallel adapter (as the Epson has no USB port.) The apple acknowledges the SP 700 under the chooser, but there is NOTHING on the right of the chooser to acknowledge the Epson in the USB port. Do you have any suggestions? I have a feeling there is some adapter card that is not on my OS 9.2 that needs to be downloaded. I saw something on the site 1.4.1, but I am scared to download that as under the apple system for the printer it says “O” next to the USB port , but it says 1.5.5, so I figure it is not smart to download any #’s less than that (like 1.4.1). Do you know of any adapter card that would work? Or some download I don’t know about, or is there one? Or can this even work or am I out of luck! I would be greatly appreciative of anything anyone could suggest.
    iMac   Mac OS 9.2.x

Hi pbk333 and welcome to the discussions.
THose early Epson USB drivers could be pretty pernickety, and even more so when used with a serial to USB adaptor. I see HERE, that there are a couple of "Driver updaters" available for use with the iMac etc. It may be worth trying them. THere is also some relevant information on the Epson site at http://www.epson.com.sg/other/help/inkjetcommonfaq.shtml
But a couple of other points. Firstly you've posted in the iMac G5 forum (which is mainly inhabited by people using the much newer "flat screen" iMacs that run much later operatings systems than 9.2. You are more likely to find someone who knows about this probem (or at least can remember whether there was a simple answer!) in either the iMac G3 forum at http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=888 or in the OS9 forum at http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=669
Secondly, those old printers can be pretty expensive to run , especially where children and colored ink are concerned! You may find that you can get a much newer printer, with cheaper ink and less problems with set-up, for not much more (maybe even less!) than a set of inkcartridges for the old Epson. I know OS9 compatible printers are getting hard to find, but something a little later than your Epson 700 (even a second hand Canon i560 or similar) might be a lot less trouble, and cheaper in teh long run, especially if children are using it.
    Cheers

  • Need 3.00 usb driver for TochSmart 520-1047C

When I upgraded to Windows 8.1 32 bit I lost usage of the 3.0 USB ports . When I try 3.0 my WD The Book it will not work it or  show up in My Computer. I have tried using the chipsets by HP website for my computer using for windows 8 64 bit. Computer will not accept the download.
Some of my USB 2.0  flash drives  will work using 3.0 ports, but not all. The USB 2.0 ports all work.

    Hi dvw007,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you are attempting to utilize your 3.0 usb ports on your desktop, and I would be happy to be of assistance!
Unfortunately, there are no 3.0 USB device drivers for Windows 8.1 at this time. You might be able to find a download for compatible drivers for the 3.0 USB ports, by following this document on Downloading or Updating Software and Drivers for HP Computers. Under frequently asked questions about software and drivers, click on "You cannot upgrade a USB port using a driver upgrade". Follow the instructions for steps 1-8, regarding the 3.0 USB devices.
Another alternative is to refresh your desktop back to Windows 8 (64 bit). This will allow you to download and update USB software directly from the HP website. To do this, please follow this document on How to refresh, reset, or restore your PC. To Refresh, please select the option that displays "Refresh your PC without affecting your files".
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I will diligently follow up with you!

  • USB Port for IPOD?

My son has an Ipod Classic which does not have wifi. I want to buy a new Airport express for our stereo in order to hook the Ipod to the USB port and transmit music to the stereo. Can this be done?
    Thanks,

As was noted you can't do this through an Airport express but there are two ways you can play your iPod through your stereo.
The cheapest is to connect the headphone jack of the iPod to the stereo. Usually your stereo will have RCA jacks for input so you need RCA audio to mini stereo plug see: http://store.apple.com/us/product/TN779LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0OQ&mco=MTA4MjUwNjE
The other possibility, if your stereo is hooked up to your TV (or near it) is to also play the iPod's video on the TV with the sound through the stereo. To do this you'll need something similar to: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB129LL/B?fnode=MTY1NDA0OQ&mco=MTA4MjUwMzk
This works great, I use this setup to play my iTunes videos on my TV. Of course I have to copy them to the iPod first but its a fairly cheap solution.
