    Hi
Please boot unit to Bios using F10 key once unit is powered on go to Diagnostics check if the Hard Drive is getting detected. If not getting detected reseat the HDD & check if not issue with HDD & Solt of HDD.
If the HDD is getting detected under Bios please run the HDD test check if that passed.
Then under system configaration change the Boot order to CD/DVD to be First.
Insert the CD restart the unit or press Esc Button unit should detect the RCD in drive and give you the recovery option still does not work issue with DVD/HDD.

  • Help Needed To Replace Hard Drive Satellite M45 S351

My hard drive died and can not be reformated.  I just ordered a new one that should be arriving in a day or two.  All I have is the Recovery DVD that came with the laptop.  Can I insert it when I boot up with the new HD and reformat the computer?  I do have a full version of windows98 and an upgrade version of XP.  Any help for a novice would be apreciated.

After you replace the hard drive, you should be able to boot from the recovery disk and follow the prompts.  It will install a binary image of the original drive with all of the correct drivers, utilities, etc.  The system will look just as it did when you bought it.

  • HT1752 I need a replacement hard drive for model a1311 iMac

I removed my old hard drive, which is an original WD 500GB from my mid 2010 iMac, to try to replace with a seagate 1T but I found out that the original hard drive (thermal sensor) has 8 pins and my new one has only 4 pins.  What should I do?

Hi, only Apple has those special drives as far as I know, but there are workarounds...

Since the late 2009 iMacs came out, replacing the hard drive has caused the internal Hard Drive Fan to start running at around 6000RPM.
This is due to Apple replacing the external Hard Drive temperature sensor with a proprietary firmware and using the drives internal sensor.
Replacement drives do not contain the firmware to deliver temperature data on the temperature sensor cable.
When the iMac does not receive a good signal from the hard drive it puts the fan at full speed to protect the drive.
If you replace your drive, your iMac will initially seem fine, but soon the fan will begin to speed up to full speed. Resetting the SMC (System Management Controller) will have a temporary effect, but again the fan will speed up.
Fixes people have used in the past included:
        •    Using smcFanControl and the terminal to set a MAX speed for the fan and writing scripts to start this after every sleep/restart.
        •    Shorting the temperature sensor cable (Not a possibility on 2011 iMacs) this tricks the iMac into thinking the drives temperature is very low, hence slow fan speed.
Both these fixes are less then perfect and leave the drive in a dangerous situation with no protection from overheating.
Another option people try is other Fan Control software. These programs will not work for this particular issue as they often only control the base speed, and if they do control the fans actual speed they rely on the temperature reported by the sensor which is now incorrect.
    HDD Fan Control
HDD Fan Control works to fix this issue by reading the drives internal temperature using the S.M.A.R.T protocol and set the fans actual speed to a value good to protect the drive.
It runs at startup and continually to always control the fan correctly, prevent the loud fan noise and protect the drive from overheating
Instead of HDDFan Control, get the free SSDFan Control

  • My color classic needs a replacement hard drive, please help me find one

The dead drive that was removed is a Conner CP30085E 85MB 3.5in SCSI 50 PIN. Also I have OS 7.1 is there a later system that would work. Note the tools floppy disk boots perfectly.
    Thanks for any info

"...they had a Quantum apple drive 84 mb SCSI drive for $99. Talked to the owner and he said the older apple drives are really getting scarce."
Scarcity doesn't justify egregious price gouging. An 84 MB SCSI hard drive should not cost that much. Did you try an eBay search for a "50-pin SCSI hard drive?" I just did and found some larger drives for far less than either of the prices you got from 4drives.com. It doesn't have to be an Apple-branded drive, although that helps when some third-party drives aren't supported by Apple's disk formatting utilities. You can also check eBay for an OS 7.6.1 retail version/universal installer disk or OS 7.6 and then download the OS 7.6.1 Update. I'd want at least 16 MBs of installed memory to run OS 7.6.1, but your Color Classic is maxed out with a pair of 4 MB SIMMs plus 2 MBs of the 4 MBs of onboard RAM, for a total of 12 MBs.

  • I need a replacement hard drive for a 2004 G5 PowerPC iMac.

I picked it up for free at a garage sale, then opened it up and saw that ithad no hard drive. I don't know exactly what to buy, so if anybody could give me links to some on Amazon or Ebay that would be great. I don't really care about the capacity of the hard drive. Thanks!

Generally speaking any 3.5", 7200 RPM 1.5 Gbps SATA hard drive will do.   3 Gbps are too fast for it, and some may not down step without the proper jumper setting.

  • Tried to install maverick killed my hard drive. tried to replace hard drive and reinstall earlier version. but when i reboot the computer i just get a file folder with a question mark.  what can i do to get ky mac up and running?

Restart holding down cmd-opt-r. It will boot to Internet Recovery. From there you can reinstall the original shipping OS or restore from Time Machine.

  • TS3694 My iPhone 4 recieved a message saying it needs to be activated. I`ve tried restoring but error 3194 is occuring. How can i restore my phone properly

I admit i downloaded ios7 from the internet illeagally and now my phone needs to be activated. My iPhone 4 cannot be used and it cannot be restored. I love all of my apple products and i will never download illegal software.

You are probably getting the error because you have a beta version of iOS 7 that expired yesterday. We've had hundreds of posts about this over the past 18 hours. If you are a developer, and thus have a legitimate copy of iOS 7 beta, go to the Developer's forum, where there are detailed instructions on how to resolve this.
If you have an illegal pirated copy of iOS 7 you are on your own, because we are not permitted to support stolen software in this Apple-hosted forum. There are solutions, but you will have to find them elsewhere. Start with "DFU mode"

  • External hard drive failed -- no source clips -- but project file okay

It's 3.8gb so there has to be something there. How do I restore it?
I have an mp4 file I can go to in a pinch, but it's pretty highly compressed so I'd rather use the project file.
    Thanks!
    /john

The Project file is a text file that contains the paths to the Event files with in and out points and references to instructions for color correction, effects, etc. There is no source video in the project itself.
If you shared to the Media Browser, you may be able to find copies of your edited project.
Right click on the Project File and select Show Package Contents. Look in the Movies folder and there are your finished movies.

  • Suggestions on replacement hard drive

I'm needing a replacement hard drive for a 733MHz 128MB 40G Quicksilver. Anyone with experience on certain brands?
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Jason:
A 120GB (ATA-100 or ATA-133) drive is perhaps the optimum size... You've confirmed that Mac won't see more than the first 128GB of any drive connected to the native drive bus on the logic board. You may add a drive larger than 120GB to this bus (in case you find a larger drive for less money than a 120GB one), but only the first 128GB will be recognized after formatting. For larger drive internal use at full capacity, you'd need to add a PCI controller card to hook the drive to.
To physically install the drive, you need to correctly set the jumper pins on the drive and then connect it to the proper connector on the ribbon cable. (I assume that the current drive is working and you'll be duplicating the data on it to the new drive. If I'm wrong, please let me know.) One of the drives will be pinned as master (single master/single drive) and connected to the end of the ribbon cable; the other pinned as slave and connected to the inline connector. They get mounted one above the other in the drive stacking tray that's in the Mac. The new drive will come with the jumpers, mounting screws and a spare ribbon cable, so you'll have all that you need).
If you need help with this, let us know after you've purchased the drive (pin setting positions vary on different brands). Don't drive yourself crazy with the installation manual that comes with the drive, which is confusing and Windows-oriented. Also note that the accompanying software CD is useless for Macs. You'll instead simply use Disk Utility to initially format (initialize) the drive.
As for cloning, I think that the most user-friendly software is SuperDuper, which I'm pretty sure you'll find to be a snap to use. (I'm a long time fan of CarbonCopyCloner, but recently tried SuperDuper to familiarize myself with it and was very impressed by how friendly it is.) It walks you through the volume duplication process in a few easy steps.

  • Replacement Hard Drive for Satellite 4090 XCDT

I have a Satellite 4090 XCDT which needs a new hard drive, I am trying to find out if the laptop/BIOS can support a 20 GB hard drive (Toshiba Mk-2018GAS), can anyone help me?
Also upto what size will it support?

    Hi Steve
I can not give you precise information about 20GB HDD but I know that 8GB HDD will be recognized by BIOS and it will work properly. A friend of mine has 4100XCDT and it works with 20GB HDD without any problem.
My opinion is that you should pick up some information by service partner or Google a little bit around and I am sure that you can find HDD vendor that can give you right information. I know that it is possible to built in HDD`s with high capacity to older machines but how it exactly works I can not explain you.

  • Question about replacing hard drive

Hey everyone. I had a question about replacing a hard drive for a 2012 midyear pro. I have replaced hard drives before on windows machines, but this is the first mac I have owned. It didn't come with a hard drive when I bought it, but I do have mavericks installed on a usb. As far as a new hard drive, will any 2.5 laptop hard drive work? I read it needs to be 9.5mm thick. Is that correct? As far as I am concerned, hardware is hardware and should be the same as replacing a hard drive on a dell laptop but wanted to see if apple has any weird restrictions.
Also, is there anything I need to consider or be aware of when putting in a new hard drive? Or can I just hook up the hard drive and plug in the USB and install the software onto the hard drive. Thanks
Excuse and ny ignorance as I am new to macs.

Yes.  Any SATA drive will do with those specifications.

Assuming that the installer is functioning correctly, install the HDD in the MBP and engage the installer.  You should come across a 4 option menu.  Select Disk Utility from it.  Open Disk Utility>Erase and format the HDD to Mac OS Extended (Journlaled).  One you finish that, you may install the OSX.
    Ciao.
