Negative screen display?

My 3 year old found a way to change my screen display so that it appears as a negative image. How do I correct this? Command + Shift + 8 didn't work.

Open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences, click on the Seeing tab, turn off White on Black, and drag the Contrast slider all the way to the left.

    My imac screen display is unfocussed, odd coloured and blurred (caused by rogue cate walking over keyboard).  I have no idea what settings have changed or what to check.  Any ideas?!

    It could be a number of keyboard shortcuts, here's a few.
    If the screen is zoomed,  hold CNTL and scroll down with mouse or trackpad.
    If screen looks like a negative,  hold down CNTL OPT CMD and click 8.
    Let us know how what other symptoms are shown.

  • On screen display and FN+ buttons don't work after format

    I formatted my entire HDD and re-installed windows 7 pro. After doing the format and re-install the on screen display doesn't show up when I adjust volume or enable/disable caps lock like it did previously before I re-installed. I've installed the hotkey driver, on screen display, display interface driver, ran the Lenovo update utility several times, installed all windows updates. Is there somewhere where I have to enable OSD (on screen display)? I am sure this is just something small that I am overlooking but if anyone has any help please let me know! sorry if this has been posted already, I tried searching before making a post but didn't have any luck.

    It appears what happened is the installer though it was looking at a empty drive and just went ahead and installed.
    I of course am assuming here you didn't use Disk Utility to format the drive first before installing, that would wipe out your files and programs for sure.
    So what to do, what to do.
    Well there is hope for you as long as the drive wasn't Filevaulted.
    I'll explain. When a hard drive writes data for the first time to a drive, it starts at the very top and works it's way down.
    When OS X was installed the first time, it was at the top of the drive, unless you upgraded then the upgraded OS X could have been written elsewhere.
    Now when you just reinstalled OS X, the new OS went on the top of the drive, overwriting any data that was there previously, so what was there you have lost forever which is about 8GB or so. If it was the previous OS there, then your more in luck because only the old OS X was overwritten.
    The remaining space on the drive still can have a copy of your files, provided it's not overwritten yet.
    It's because when a hard drive deletes data or reformats, it doesn't remove the data off the drive or overwrites it immediately, it's just made so it's SPACE is available for new files to be written there.
    So technically one can recover the deleted data off a non-encrypted/scrubbed hard drive with special software.
    The way it does this is it reads the 1's and 0's of the files themselves, and through a lot of figuring out, can tell what that file is and what it belongs too.
    So what you will have to do is this:
    Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
    or if you don't have the skills, then take it to a local PC/Mac tech and they can do a direct image of the drive and then you can run Data Rescue on it to rebuild your files.

    My macbook pro's screen display has suddenly gone into a strange colour setting where everything appears in a kind of infrared colour palette an I can;t seem to change it back.  It's the same for all icon and websites, does anyone know how to restore?

    Wow!  I think I had this same issue just last night.
    I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside.  Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly.  It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle.  Of course I took no pictures!!!  I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
    But I digress...  The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect.  After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though.  There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top.  After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen.  I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background.  After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle.  After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange.  But I believe that might be all in my head now.
    So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out.

  • Brand New Iphone 5s Home Screen display defect

    Here goes my ordeal with my Iphone 5s upgrade
    After waiting in line for over an hour I purchased the Iphone 5s yesterday at Best Buy (Stonebriar, Frisco, TX). Later that evening, I noticed that when the time was 5:36, the home screen display was not showing the digit 6. Instead it showed a blur. I then changed the time manually to 6:36 and then to 6:43 and each time there was a digit 6 the display showed a blur instead. I must note that the phone was sitting in the grass which was a little moist (which I believe was the causing the issue). I immediately went back to the Best Buy location where I purchased the phone and requested a replacement after showing the defect. The store manager wanted me to wait in the line and I refused to do so (they sold me a defective phone so I did not see a reason why I had to go in that line all over again when it was just a replacement!). Anyways, after a tiff with the manager I left that store with my defective phone.
    Next day, I went to the Apple store (Willowbend mall, Plano). I was greeted by genteleman at the entrance of the store who nicely asked if he could help. The moment I told him I suspected my new Iphone 5s was defective he said 'What!!' and made an expression of disbilief. Funny! I was asked to go to another peson who was standing and waving his hand further inside the store. I go to him and explain to him the problem and when I try to demonstrate it does not happen! Oh dear! Luckily I had enough screenshots in store and I showed them all to the store clerk.  He then tells me that he can take the phone in for me and get it 'repaired'! In disbilief I ask him if he meant 'Replaced'? He says no, they will try to repair it first - he further speculates saying they will try a restore or maybe a front glass replacement and that if they still can't fix it, Apple will then replace the phone. In exasperation I tried to explain to him that the problem happened yesterday and then today it can't doesn't seem to happen, while adding that it is a brand NEW phone I purchased less than 24 hours ago and that I still am under the 14 day time-frame. I explain to him kindly that I would not be able to verify the fix (Apple does a restore or even changes the glass and returns me the phone and I must believe that the problem was fixed?? - Hel No!) and its not so nice to hear from Apple that they can't take responsibility for a defective product. He kindly says sorry and explains that it is policy and that they have to try to repair first. Oh how I wish I could've gotten Apple to sign my policy document for my money...sigh..don't work like that! So I left Apple and ran across to Best Buy mobile store asking for a replacement. The guy says Best Buy mother store and Best Buy Mobile store keep there own stock during holidays and he can't help. Sweet! I drive down 10 miles and go to a different Best Buy 'Mother' store and of course I'm asked to stand in the line. I swallow my pride and become a part of the line. My turn comes and again I explain the problem and of course the Best Buy clerk says 'Did you try a restore?' What!! Anyways, after a bit of reasoning (cribbing) with a couple of Best Buy agents, I was able to get them to replace my Iphone 5s (and of course they didn't have a gold color so I had to settle for the space gray..not a big deal though as long as this one is not defective also!)
    So anybody had this display issue? Issue with Apple customer service?
    Rs,
    GH

    Well they offered to do everything they could to work with you on the device....You are right in saying that the offered what they 'could'. Unfortunately what they could was tied by company policy.
    Just like being human there are times things just go wrong- 2 out 2 IPhones 5s in 2 days! I hope people are doing better :-p
    You fought against people at the store level who have /zero/ control over policy and had their hands tied by what theri bosses tell them to do. Agreed. I left instead of fighting. Unfortunately they are the first line of support and a manager maybe as far I'd get. Would love to chat with Steve Jobs but I guess now there is only one way for that :-p
    They not only rushed you to get service to repair the device but you didn't even do any troubleshooting of your own to try to repair it. Now what if a restore had fixed your issue, you would have kept your device, your color, and what you paid for... - I disagree. If you read my original post, the problem happened the same evening I bought the phone. When I went to Apple I was not able to reproduce the issue. So you tell me how do I verify that restore fixed it? Wait and watch? After 14 days I can't even return the phone. The other speculation made by the rep was changing the glass. I would not try that for obvious reasons.
    Why /wouldn't/ you try to repair something before spending your gas/time to replace it the moment something is amiss.
    hmmm..
    Now the 2nd new phone makes a rattling sound. Something is loose inside..I'd rather spend gas/time and return it than get them 'repair' it or give me a refurbished phone! Why? Because I can at this point and still get a new one with possibly no defects(fingers crossed) or I could find a company that makes better quality products :-p

  • Can I get my dock to appear on the extended screen display?

    I would like to have my dock appear on my extended screen display and my lap top screen. Is this possible?
    The thing that is frusterating is when I click on my dock, i have to drag everything that it pulls up onto the extended screen. I would much rather just click on the dock and have it appear on my extended screen without me having to drag it over. If I cant have my dock on both screens, is there a way that I can make my external display be the primary display and my mb pro be the secondary display?

    Hi Scott,
    If you want the dock on the side, rather than the bottom, you can have it on the right hand side of the right hand monitor, or the left hand side of the left hand monitor. One option, I guess would be to reconfigure things with the 24" as the primary screen, but to the left of the MBP, if you want the dock on the left. Probably not what you want for other reasons, but at least it would get the dock where you want it.
    Another option might be to try the third party shareware application "Dock-it" , which allows you to create your own configurable "docks" in various locations. THis actually allows you to choose which monitor you want to locate any particular dock on, and allows placement on the sides of either or both. see http://www.gideonsoftworks.com/dockit.html
    I'd been thinking about suggesting this app to Brett, too, but couldn't find the link at the time. I've been playing with it a bit since , and it certainly has some useful possibilities. The docks it creates are a little less intuitive than the Apple one, and a bit fussier to add things to, though.
    Cheers

  • My iPhone 4S went into lock-up with a screen display image of USB connector pointing to iTunes logo. I took it to a Verizon store and they said I have a brick lock and that only an Apple retail store 50 miles away could clear it

    My iPhone 4S went into lockup with a screen displaying an image of the USB connector pointing to the iTunes logo. I was traveling and took the phone to the closest Verizon store. The store informed me that I had a brick lock and that only an Apple retail store could unlock the phone. The Verizon store explained that they have seen this problem with SEVERAL other 4S users who had upgraded to the new iOS7 operating system and that to their knowledge it is too demanding to work on pre-iPhone 5S phones having a far less capable processor. The closest Apple store was 50 miles away in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. I went to that store three days later (today) to reset the phone before flying out of Philadelphia Intl. Airport. The Apple store personnel were overloaded and not sensitive to my plight. They told me that I would have to make a reservation for a time 2 hours later for tech support. I couldn't do that without missing my flight - out of luck until I get back to Los Angeles. If the Verizon store explanation is true, Apple needs to accommodate 4S and earlier generation users and not force them to upgrade to a $459 iPhone 5S!

    The salesperson at Verizon has no clue what their saying.
    My 4S and many of my friends works perfectly fine on IOS 7.3, no issue as all.

  • I wanted to keep my locked screen display with the time and date from turning off is that possible

    So I enjoy my locked screen display with my chosen picture because it has the time displayed nice and big and its a cool nightlight but the locked screen display/wallpaper/time with date always goes black after 13ish seconds of locking it is there no way to let the locked screen stay on while charging? because it is awesome if it could stay on as a nightlight also so i dont have to press the lock button to see what time because the normal display is ugly am I just being super picky or am I not the only one who agrees or maybe it does exist im just stupid please respond when you can also thanks for reading much appreciated.

    Again, there is NO WAY to do what you asked: display the time constantly.
    I have a clock app that displays the time constantly on my iPad. I use it as a bedside clock. Many clock apps have the ability to disable autolock just within that app. Whether there is one that lets you pick your own background, I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised if there were, based on the number of clock apps out there. While what I'm suggestion is not precisely what the OP asked (display the system lock screen), it seems it might be a possible workaround.

  • Export data from an iView to Excel, get a login screen displayed in Excel

    Hi
    I'm trying to export data from a tableview to excel, I followed the instruction posted by Detlev Beutner, created a class extends AbstractPortalComponent, and overwrote the doOnNodeReady:
    HttpServletResponse response = request.getServletResponse(true);
    response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "filename=\"text.xls\"");
    I did write some test output in doContent:
             aResponse.write("Filed11,Filed12,Field13");
             aResponse.write("Field21,Field22,Field23");
    I was hoping to see the excel to display the content "Field11 Field12...", but I got a portal login screen displayed in Excel.
    Does anyone have the same experience and and idea on this?
    Thanks
    Yutong

    Sure, here is the sample code for method doOnNodeReady
    protected void doOnNodeReady(IPortalComponentRequest request,
          IEvent event)
      //set http content type to excel format
      HttpServletResponse response = request.getServletResponse(true);
      response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
      response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachement;filename=\"abc.xls\"");
      java.io.PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
      // print out the header
      out.print(headerSubject + "\t");
      out.print(headerDueDate + "\t");
      // then print out your data
      out.close();

  • Brand new Thinkstation D10 server fails to boot, no beeps or screen display

    This server had been working fine for several weeks and today I needed to reboot it. It has been rebooted several times before so so I wasn't trying something new.   I hit the Vista Start button and it immediately shut down.  I couldn't recall if Vista prompts you to Stand-by/restart/shutdown but I think it does - this time it didn't. :/   Afterwards, it would not boot.
    I tried:
    Unplugging and replugging it in: it then attempted to boot but shut itself down again after about 30s.
    a Power Supply Reset
    Reseating the memory cards
    Removing one of the 4GB memory cards
    Trying the other memory card
    Swapping the two memory cards
    Inserting a bootable disk (it never gets to the point of reading anything although the drive spins up)
    Checking that everything in the system board was plugged in
    Making sure none of the wires were hitting anything else (shorting out)
    When replacing that annoying cover from over the memory cards, made sure again I was not pinching any wires
    The server does not beep and the (directly connected) monitor never comes alive to display anything when I attempt to reboot.
    Per the docs, I observed the power supply Diagnostic LEDs and front panel Power LED while attempting to boot and only the green Diagnostic LED on the power supply is ever activated.  The table indicated this means replace the system board.
    Aack!
    Before I head for the support # and an eventual shipment back to Lenovo, would it be worth my while to try and replace the CMOS battery?  Or would a failure of that battery still have resulted in some indication of the problem (beeping and/or screen display)?  Can anyone think of something else to check?
    Just thought I'd ask around before assuming that I'm stuck with the system board diagnosis).
    Thanks

    The list of things that will make a computer power down on it's own before it can ever get into the OS or initiate a video feed is a short list.
    A CPU thermal trip usually occurs within 30 seconds.  This can be cause by a loose or improperly seated heat sink or a failure in the thermal grease coverage.  If your D10 arrived with one CPU and you recently installed a second CPU, try taking the second CPU out.  Should this work, verify the second CPU is the exact match to the first CPU and that the thermal grease is properly applied to the heat sink and the heat sink is securely mounted.
    Ambient temperature thermal trip usually takes longer, but can be significantly shorten if the air baffle for the memory is not installed.  Computers with high Front Side Bus frequencies result in memory DIMMS that get very hot.
    DC power trip.  This can happen if too much power is being drawn through any of the PCI ports or through the power supply itself.
    When you are using a highend video card, check to see if the video card has it's own power connector(a small six lead box).  If it does, there is a power connector, from the power supply, to plug into it.  Without that power plugged in, the video card may appear to hum, and the it will draw too much power through the PCI slot.
    Should you have added any additional PCI adapters, try removing these for a test. If that works, add one card back in at a time to isolate the offending PCI card.
    Disconnect any USB or Firewire devices you may have attached, including the mouse and keyboard.  If it comes back up and you have video, power down and reconnect the keyboard and mouse only and try again.
    If you have the memory card reader option and kids, check to make certain no one has inserted something into the memory card readers.  My kid inserted a quarter into one of the slots on my reader.  My workstation powered down pretty fast.   Consider moving the workstation to higher ground.
    Last by not least, disconnect any additional optical drives you may have added.  Some SATA devices have both the standard PC power connector and the SATA power connector.  Do not connect both of these power sources to the same drive.  The drive will be damaged and your computer will not stay powered on for very long.
    Should this all fail to resolve the issue, contact Lenovo support.  To make your support experience faster and more pleasurable, send them this list of things you tried.  If this list of possible fixes fails, it's probably a power supply or system board issue, and I would start with the power supply.
    If an electronic device has a defect it will fail within the first 90 days.  Once you get it past the first 90 days, it is generally good for years.
    I hope this helps!!!

  • Windows 7: No On-Screen Display

    I have updated my T60 to Windows 7 and have installed all the latest drivers for my system.  I have installed the latest drivers for hotkey and system interface, but still cannot get the on screen display to show up.  I do get the on screen display tab on my thinkpad display settings, but if I apply them nothing works.  Any thoughts?

    I had the same problem on my T61P. This site had the solution.
    http://superuser.com/questions/83367/lenovo-t61-mute-button-and-on-screen-display-mute-indicator-doe...
    Basically insert shortcuts to
    c:\drivers\hotkey\osd\lvosdsvc.exe
    c:\drivers\hotkey\osd\tponscr.exe
    c:\drivers\hotkey\osd\tposdsvc.exe
    into your startup folder and it works.
