NetBeans and JSE projects compatibility
I am currently using NetBeans 4.1 for my Java development and am thinking of trying out JSE8. If I do this will my NB4.1 projects open in JSE and if I decide to go back to NB will NB still be able to open them along with any new projects I create?
I agree with your last statement. If I knew I was going to be able to get JSE at no cost as I can now with JSE8 this would be no decision to make. I however will have to convince the company I work for that it is worth the cost. We are also starting to train in two part time Java developers (I am currently the only one) and it will be hard to get them to buy licences for part time developers. If we could use JSE and NB in together this would not be an issue. Any one have any experience doing this? Has any one seen an official statement from Sun with their plans on how they plan to license JSE in the future? In another post I saw some one linked to an Infoworld article that claimed Sun planned to make all if its software free but it gave no time tables.

Netbeans + Open Remote Project

I'm trying to open a project in NetBeans 5.5 that's stored on my company's network. The project is contained in a folder named 'myProject', and I'm certain that it would run correctly if I were only to open it the right way.
When I go to [File-> Open Project-> \\network-drive\...\projects\myProject ], I'm unable to open the project. Apparently, this folder isn't recognized by NetBeans as a "project folder". However, since it contains sub-folders named 'build', 'dist', 'nbproject', 'src', 'test', 'web' and a file named 'build.xml', it does appear to be a valid web application project folder. (Right?)
Interestingly, if I create a new project, save it to \\network-drive\...\projects\, close NetBeans, and then try to open it through the "Open Project..." dialogue, I'm unable to do so. The reason: That folder isn't recognized by NetBeans as a "project folder." However, if I create a new project, save it my local hard drive, and then try to open it through the "Open Project..." dialogue, I don't have any difficulties. This appears to suggest that the locations in which these folders reside dictate whether or not NetBeans can open them as projects. What's the deal with that?
Thanks in advance!Open My Computer, click Tools -> Map Network Drive. Where it says "Folder" type "\\P" into that box and click finish. Try to access the project using 'P:\Projects\ESAO_ITS\Legal\myProject' instead of the double slash in the beginning.

Communication problem between NetBeans and Tomcat
hi!
i got a quite mysterious problem. here is what happens:
- i start NetBeans 5.5.1 (the first time)
- i want to debug my JSF-Project, the Debugger starts
- After a few seconds the debugger waits for tomcat (it sais: "Waiting for Tomcat...") and tomcat starts
- Again after a few seconds the tomcat-debugger-output sais "Tomcat startet in 3333 ms".
okay.
when i enter http://localhost:8084/ in my browser i get the tomcat homepage, so the server has definitely started! But nothing happens in NetBeans and nothing happens with my project....
In the lower-right corner i see this blue working-bar that sais "deploying project" but nothing happens. The Project-Debugger-Output still sais "Waiting for Tomcat..." but nothing happens...
And after something around 3 minutes (i guess it's a timeout) i get the error "Starting of Tomcat failed." But is HAS started, i can login to the Administration-Area in my browser!
so i guess there is a communication problem between netbeans an tomcat. Netbeans waits for a message from tomcat but tomcat doesn't send it..or netbeans doesn't understand it.
But the story goes on:
When i press the debug-button a second time it takes only a few seconds till i get the message: "Tomcat server port 8084 already in use". OF COURSE! Because Tomcat has already startet and can't be stoped by NetBeans.
i'm trying to solve this problem for 4 days now, so i would be very happy if anyone has an idea where to start/continue the search...

Player 10.1 and Air using Compatibility Mode
This is related to post at http://forums.adobe.com/message/2933137#2933137, but, thought I should start another since that one is marked answered.
I'm having a similar issue with an Air app, but, I am using 4.1 SDK (and LCCS 10.1 swc), but still getting the same error regarding GroupSpecifier (pasted below).
I have an Air app project and related web app project, which both use a library project (ARSystemLib in the trace below). The library project is using 4.1 SDK, and has the Flex 3 compatibility mode turned on, along with 10.1.0 set as "use a specific version" under "Flash Player Options". The Air project is also using 4.1 SDK and Flex 3 compatibility, along with the compiler option "-target-player=10.1.0".
For the web app, I had to remove the "Use a specific version" of 10.1.0 for it to compile ( was getting many "Classes must not be nested", which seems to be a difficult issue to fix after much research on others getting this message).
I'm okay with the web version not using 10.1 for p2p, but, critically need this for the Air version. I'm hoping it's not the "Compatibility" mode setting, as reworking the app without is a huge undertaking.

Apologies for the delayed response. I am guessing you will have to update the namespace in your <PROJECTNAME>-app.xml file under src of your project.
Your name space should be 2.0 or greater.
Its possible that your app has namespace like -
<application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/1.5"> ,
but it should be
<application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/2.0">
Also other options is to add -target-player=10.1.0 to your flex compiler options [additional compiler arguments]

Q1. The default page is index.html and the default home for the project is say $HOME, when I write http://localhost:8084/$HOME/index.html the browser displace error message. I've to run this file from the netBeans. Do I need to run netBeans and run the file from the IDE to access the index.html file?
Q2. The second problem is; once I run the index file from the netBeans and then use this address http://localhost:8084/$HOME i.e if I remove the index.html file form the URL the Browser displays all the files that I've in my project but I don't won't this to happend. Is there any means to avoid this problem?

Once you understand what's going on, then it will be much easier to configure your IDE.

I have put an own DataProvider in an SessionBean and at first it worked when i bound it to a Table. I restarted my Netbeans and now this connection is lost.... I cannot attach my DataProvider to the Table. It is not in the drop down list from the Table Layout Bind to Data.

Is it possible to have java and javafx project types combined ?.
Today, in NetBeans (not sure about the eclipse world) one has to decide between a "Java" project or a "JavaFX" project.
Why can't these two be combined ?.
For e.g, when I try to add JavaFX files (script, classes) to a Java Project it fails to compile. I poked around Netbeans and googled a bit and could'nt find any answers.
The only way that I can make it work is to create a JavaFX project and Java code to it.
In situations where one is attempting to "add" JavaFX to an existing Java/Swing app the current approach is too weird and abnormal.
For e.g Amy Fowler's excellent guide http://weblogs.java.net/blog/2009/06/10/insiders-guide-mixing-swing-and-javafx should be such that I should be able to "simply" add JavaFX code and NetBeans should take care of the plumbing. (calling javafx compiler, adding the right jars for runtime ...)
/rkI'm not sure how JavaFX works, but it is built rather differently from "normal" Java (Single threaded, high level of abstraction from the actual implementation, etc). It is easy to use Java classes inside a JavaFX class, but the reverse is not true.
Plus, though this part is technically fixable, some classes installed inside the JRE don't seem to work by default in a netbeans JavaFX project. -

FCS 2 Leopard/Tiger project Compatibility

I'm in the Television business and work with FCS 2 at work as well as at home. Recently I upgraded my home machine (intel iMac core duo) to leopard. Since the upgrade I've been having project compatibility problems. When I get home with a project I created at work, I get a message saying that the project is from an older version of FCS, and if I continue without Saving As, I'll not be able to open the project back up on the Tiger machine at work. I'm running updated versions of FCS 2 on both machines, but one is leopard and one is Tiger. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If any more info would help just let me know.I have the same problem. Work OS is Tiger 10.4.11, home machine is Leopard 10.5.x (not in front of it) and both have FCS2 installed on them. The versions are the same, I just did the updates, and yet I'm still finding that the Tiger version of FCP can't read the Leopard files. I haven't tried the reverse, yet, but I'm headed home to grab some stuff and will do so there.

COPA reporting with open and closed projects
Dear All,
I am designing a COPA solution for an infrastructure providing company using project systems and posting to/settling out of projects on a monthly basis. Projects run for long periods and continually incurr costs and earn revenue untill they are closed. The requirement is to report by common characteristics (say customer group) and separately for open and closed projects. My issue is how to separate the line items of projects where status changed to closed (having posted with the status REL previously), from the open ones, without entering the projects individually in the selections screen.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

An item of a purchase requisition is only regarded as Closed if the requested order quantity has been included in a purchase order.
You can also set an item to Closed manually. <b>This item will then not be taken into account by the materials planning and control system.</b>
You can set the Closed indicator manually at the following points (it can later be cancelled if necessary):
When changing a purchase requisition, on the item detail screen
When creating a purchase order referencing a requisition, on the item detail screen of the PO
You can still create purchase orders by referencing a requisition if this indicator has been set in the requisition concerned.
The indicator can also be set in the case of automatic PO generation from purchase requisitions. On the initial screen of the requisition, you can specify that the requisition is to count as closed as soon as an associated purchase order has been generated, even if the complete quantity requested has not been ordered, for example (Set reqs. to "closed" indicator).

ran troubleshooter said its a compatabilty problem suggested turning off itunes compatability or selecting windows service pack 3 tried both no help

After download and installation of PS PE12
I have problems starting the programm, double clicking on the icon.
After selecting video and new project nothing happens, only the colorbar below new project is showing, nothing happens.
(expected was to activate the program and the sarting the PE12)
PSE12 runs fine
System:
WIN8.1 / i7 /16GB RAMNew computer.
