Network or ip address in LV

Is there a way for an LV application to determine the network name of the machine it is running on, or failing that, the IP address of the machine it is running on?

You use the String to IP function wired to an IP to String function. If no input is wired to the String to IP, you get the local machine. Leaving the dot notation input of IP to String unwired or a False gets the computer name. Wiring a True gets the IP address.

  • Setting network interface IP address

    Hello everyone,
Is it possible to change a network interface IP address(eg set my local area connection IP) purely in Java or should JNI be used?
    Thanks in advance.

I doubt there is a single, cross-platform way in purely Java, but short of using JNI you could probably use something like Runtime.exec() (assuming your user has proper permissions) and a corresponding command-line utility (like ifconfig on Unix/Linux, ipconfig on Windows).
Edit From a brief look, it looks like ipconfig won't do the equivalent on Windows as ifconfig will do.

Edit Looks like the netsh command on Windows does some of those things:

  • Airport card not seeing networks after IP address clash

Hi - I have a wireless network that works fine, just reset it up again and my two mac laptops connect perfectly well to it, as they always did. The reason I set it up again was that my desktop intel mac pro (my main computer) was giving an error message, that another device on my network had the same IP address as my Airport card, and that it therefore couldn't connect to my wireless network (which has been set up so that the various devices are given their own IP addresses automatically in Bridge Mode). I have never seen this before. I repeatedly tried 'renew DHCP lease' in system preferences - it had no effect so I set up the network again from scratch to see if that would help. Still nothing. The mac pro cannot see either of the two Airport Extremes in my network using airport utility and nor will it connect to the new network when I put in the name and password - again, I have tried repeatedly. The Airport icon in system preferences is orange.
The airport card has never reported any problems and Apple hardware test (as well as the programme that came with Applecare) indicates that it's working normally. There are also no hardware problems with the Mac Pro according to the same tests.
Does anyone on this forum know what I can do to connect the Mac Pro to the wireless network? (I don't have the option of trying to use it as the computer that sets up the network, as it's located a long way from the telephone connection, so that is done using Airport Utility via one of the laptops).

Deleting the keychain with Keychain access worked.
I still can't click on options nor see preferred networks, but now the new keychain I made is finally staying around after reboot and auto connecting me to my home network.
Thank you for the help. I did accidentally delete ALL my keychains, but that's just as well as I probably had other clutter in there as well.

  • Windows Mail app in LAN-Network "e-mail address not available"

    Hello,
I have a Problem with the Windows Mail app at Windows 8.1. Everything works normally at home, but when I try to update mails at university I get the message "e-mail address not available", but Hotmail works fine. I have four more addresses synced,
none of these is updated while I am logged in at university.
So when I start my computer, I have to log in in the University network via IE, there is also a timeout after an hour or so.
I have to go access my mails in the browser, but that is quite bothersome with four e-mail addresses.
Anyone who has an idea how to solve this?
UPDATE: OneDrive does also not sync. It says all Files are up to date, but there are not. If I try to download files via Onedrive App, I get the error message "Currently, the file can't be opened. An Error ocurred with OneDrive."

    Hi,
How about your problem now? Is your Mail APP still works properly in your home? According to your description, it's should your School network problem. Is your IE enabled any network Proxy when you using it at school?

  • Networking - same IP address on 2 computers

Somehow my 2 macs have the same IP address and so I cannot access internet from both at the same time (via Airport wireless) - how can I reset one of the computers to get rid of the IP address and start over with an automatically assigned IP? I have tried deleting Airport from Networking (System Preferences) and resetting it but with no success.

Hi lemeliac, and a warm welcome to the forums!
One or more of them must be set to Static IP, or the Router isn't set to hand out IPs.
In System Preferences>Network>Show:>Airport>TCP/IP tab, make sure that IPv4: is set to Using DHCP.

  • WAAS Network Module IP address question

I've read the instructions for configuring a WAAS Network Module but I don't understand what IP space I'm suppose to use.
    https://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v403/module/configuration/guide/wsnmecfg.html
My 2821 has g0/1 as the LAN connection and s0/1 as the WAN link
    g0/1.1 - 10.1.1.1 /24
    g0/1.4 - 10.1.1.4 /24

Do I need to allocate a new subnet for interface service-engine1/0?  Or can is be an IP address in my 10.1.1.1/24 subnet?  What's the best practice?
If it's a new subnet then I assume I need to add it to eigrp, right?
Here is the sample from the Configuration Guide...
    interface service-engine1/0
ip address 10.0.0.20 255.255.255.0  <--- does this have to be it's own subnet, what's best practice?
service-module integrated-service-engine ip address 10.0.0.30 255.255.255.0 <-- this has to be in the same subnet as above, right?
    service-module integrated-service-engine ip default-gateway 10.0.0.20 <-- is this always the "int service-engine1/0" IP?
Sorry for the shotgun question approach.  Thank you in advance.

    Hi Tod,
The most common scenario is to allocate a new subnet for the module.  Since the module will need IP connectivity to the Central Manager, you should advertise it via EIGRP (or whatever routing protocol you are using).
Here are the answers to your command specific questions:
ip address 10.0.0.20 255.255.255.0  <--- does this have to be  it's own subnet, what's best practice?
    > See above.  The most common scenario is to allocate a new IP subnet.
service-module  integrated-service-engine ip address 10.0.0.30 255.255.255.0 <-- this  has to be in the same subnet as above, right?
    > Yes.  This is the IP address that is assigned to the NME-WAE.
    service-module  integrated-service-engine ip default-gateway 10.0.0.20 <-- is this  always the "int service-engine1/0" IP?
    > Correct.

  • Changing a network printer IP address

I have a new apple time capsule with an IP adress of 10.0.x.x. I believe I need to change my HP LaserJet 4000 IP address, but haven't found a way?

The 4000 TN has an IP you need to access, it was either assigned by you manually, or assigned by your networks DHCP server.
Personally I always manually assign printers to specific IP's on my network, that way I know what they are and they will never change. I can also keep them in a specific range of IP addresses on my local network.
If you don't have the manual for the HP 4000 TN, I'd suggest you download it from HP, look up how to manually set the IP using the printers menu system (you won't be able to use the printers built-in web server to configure the IP, because the HP print server won't work with any Mac web browsers, but you can set it from the menu system).
Once you have set the IP go to the Macs printer setup (Application/Utility/Printer Setup Utility) and click the Add button. Use the Protocol drop down menu and select Internet Printing Protocol - IPP. In the Address field, enter the IP of your printer. Leave the Queue field blank. In the Name field, give your printer any name you like, this will be the name that shows up when you select Print from various applications. Use the drop down Print Using menu to select the HP Laserjet 4000 series printer, then click the Add button.
    Try printing from an app.

  • Management Network Design - IP Addressing

    Hello !
I have a basic question with IP addressing for management network. We use management IP address to identify each network element. I have come across two forms of IP addressing for management network:
    1. Assign the IP address directly to an interface (if its a L2 switch, the interface is made L3 using *no switchport* command) of the network element.
    2. Create a SVI i.e., define a management VLAN on each network element, assign IP to this VLAN and assign a port to this VLAN for management.
Both these designs provide IP termination on the network elements for management using standard network management protocols. I am wondering what's the difference between the two. Any significant advantage of one over the other ? Please share your thoughts.
P.S. Many vendors don't seem to support command equivalent to *no switchport* on Cisco L2 switches. I presume the reason for this is they don't have MAC addresses on L2 switch ports. Each switch has only 1 MAC address (which identifies the switch) unlike Cisco switches wherein each interface has its own MAC address and can be converted to a L3 interface.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Naveen

In addition to method #1 and #2 you mention, there's also the use of a loopback interface (applicable on Cisco routers) and, where available, the dedicated Ethernet management port on the device which uses its own management virtual routing and forwarding (vrf) instance, Where applicable, those two methods are the preferred ones as they have a higher degree of reliability and isolation from any routing protocols in the devices' primary routing information bases (ribs or routing tables) and, in some cases even have a dedicated CPU to isolate you from runaway main CPU utilization in the device. For routers the loopback interface is the preferred method. See page 23 of the SBA WAN Deployment Guide.
Between #1 and #2 you can make an argument either way. #1 requires a dedicated physical layer link which can be a good thing (no dependency on a shared trunk being up) or bad thing (requires using a physical port and possibly a scarce inter-floor or inter-building link). The most common method I see and one recommended by Cisco is #2 - a management VLAN SVI. See pages 19-20 of the SBA LAN Deployment Guide, for instance.
Besides the IP addressing, there's a lot of good best practices around securing the management plane and deploying centralized authentication etc. Pay attention to those aspects as well. They are covered in some of the SBA Design Guides (parent page here) as well as in the material supporting Implementing Cisco IOS Network Security, the foundation guide for CCNA Security certification.

  • HomeHub 2.0 Network Printer IP Address Problem

I've got a network printer, a Samsung CLP-300N, which is connected to my BT HomeHub 2.0 using BT Infinity. Unfortunately, the router seems to be giving it multiple IP addresses, so that on my list of connected devices it shows up about 50 times (it doesn't actually give it 50 different IP addresses, but usually connects twice). I am then  unable to assign it a stable single IP address. Is anyone else having this, or a similar, problem? Does anyone know of any fixes?

    Hiya Woodced
havent seen thbis problem but iot has been mentioned before on this forum I think. Just an idea but have you tried allocating the pirinter an ip address outside the DHCP range (below 192.168.1.64) and simply configure that on the printer. You then won't need to config the HUb - but you may want to delete all the refs to the printer in dhcp table. Dont worry if you do not see the printer in the devices table BTW.

  • Network printer IP Address

    Hi All
How can i know IP add of my network Printers (Apple Talk ready).
    Thanks

If your printers are using AppleTalk, and you have a Mac only network, then there is no need for them to have an IP address set. If you need to check if an address has been registered, then you can print a config page from your printer. As to how you do that, you will have to consult the manual for the printer.

  • Network diagnostic and address

Having issue with wirless connection to HP 7510. Thru network diagnostic it show a working internet connection  but cannot find " Photosmart 7510, may have typed address incorrectly. All connections show green except server. Where can I change address ? HP network config shows everything correct. Thanks for any input.

There are  few different things this could be.  First, you'll want to make sure you are installing the printer correctly.  I'm sure you are, but it doesn't hurt to double-check.  I'll include a document below that will layout the full process.  If you're installing it correctly then, there may be something wrong with the printer's connection to the network.  Setting a static IP and power cycling the network should help with that.  I'll link a document that explaing them both in full and gives some other helpful tips.  If it's still not connecting after that, let me know and I'll see what I can find.

  • What is on my network (local IP address of security camera)

Hi, I'm trying to install a wireless IP cam, but 1st need to set up the wired version. Step 1 says...
"locate the camera on your network (use the Network function on your Mac to find the camera) and a make a note of its local IP address"
I looked at the Netwrok utility on my MAC, but cant see where I find the local IP of he camera (which is connected to my router by ethernet at the moment)
    Thanks for any help.

There's no easy way to get that information from your Mac. You'd get it from your router, by looking up the DHCP lease table.

  • Secure WiFi Network Requires "Physical Address" Info From iPod Touch

The Marina where I keep my boat has just installed a WiFi network for the slip holders. They are a little nuts about security, and decided to go a different route than WPA style passwords. They are using the physical address of each device to authorize access to the network.
How can I find the physical address of my Touch? I tried WiFI Address in settings, and no go. I found it on my G4 PB using this sequence: Apple Menu > About This Mac > More Info > Network > Locations > Airport > Hardware (MAC) Address:
    Thanks.

To answer your question, you can find your own iPod touch's MAC address yourself. It is found under:
Settings: General: About: (scoll down a bit!): Wi-Fi Address = XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
(BTW: While you're at it, tell your "nuts" Marina's IT security manager that MAC address filtering is easliy cracked - maybe not by an iPod, but easily with a laptop. They should use WPA2 encryption for a million times better security, and not bother with SSID-hiding, nor MAC address filtering at all. I don't expect he'll listen to you though! IT mangers seem to think they know everything better than anybody! )
