Networked string resource files

I've created some custom string resource files for user interface messages such as message popups. I've located them in the Components\User\Language\English directory of each computer running TestStand. Instead, I would like to have a single copy on a networked drive so that I only have to update a single location when the strings change. Is there any way to have TestStand automatically load non-local string resource files and have the ResStr function work.

As you have determined, ResStr will work for the files you add to Components\User\Language\ or Components\NI\Language\ (as documented starting on page 3-6 of the TS user manual). However, at the moment there is no way to redirect TestStand to look in a directory located on a server.
NI has documented this suggestion and will consider it for future releases of TestStand.

  • TestStand 4.2 Error String not found in language resource files

    I've installed TestStand 4.2 on two Windows XP machines.  On one machine it worked fine first time. On the other machine I receive the following message in the login box, and also in the templates pane:  'String not found in language resource files." I have tried uninstalling and re-installing TestStand twice but still get this error.  This error prevents me being able to login as an administrator so I am unable to use TestStand 4.2. I understand that these language resource files are provided by the installer but for some reason it seems that the machine with the error cannot locate these.
    The only difference between the two XP machines that I can find is the location of user profiles.  I note that on Vista compatible TestStand versions that TestStand user settings are stored to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\National Instruments\TestStand 4.2\Components on XP machines.  On the XP machine with the error all user profiles are stored under C:\profiles, rather than C:\Documents and Settings.  This is the standard profile used by our company so I am unable to change this. The TestStand installer does recognise this and installs TestStand user settings to  C:\profliles\All Users\Documents\National Instruments\TestStand 4.2\.  Does anyone know whether the location of the user profiles is important, or whether there is another cause for this error?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Scott,
    I've held off on the changes suggested by John for now.  You are correct in that the knowledge base article referenced by John does not apply since the engine does initialise.
    I've attached two screen shots.  The first one is the standard login box which displays the "String Not found in language resource files" message in place of the usual "administrator" user name.  If I overwrite the  "String Not found in language resource files" user name with "administrator" and click OK to log in then I get an "Invalid User Name" error dialogue box. Therefore I am unable to log into TestStand.
    The second screen shot shows the TestStand sequence editor with the String Not found in language resource files visible in the templates pane.
    Regards,
    David

    Although the versions 10.1.3.4 and 10.1.3.3 are close and should be able to use 10.1.3.4 JDev for most 10.1.3.3 development, the human tasks is the one exception. 10.1.3.3 had a few bugs fixed therefore the jar file used in JDev 10.1.3.4 may not be compatible with 10.1.3.3.
    I would either use JDev 10.1.3.3 or upgrade SOA Suite to 10.1.3.4

  • Resource File in Teststand

    I had defined some Custom Steps for some Tests in TypePalette and defined some strings as Module names.When I install Teststand in another PC,I had got my Custom Steps and StationGlobals back by transferring the corresponding ini files,but for certain Module names which i had defined Iam seeing in Type Palette as "String not found in Language resource file".What workaround can be adopted to resolve this?Message Edited by murali_vml on 06-14-2005 08:49 AM

    Hi,
    Is it the CustomStrings.ini or the TestStandStrings.ini that you have added your resource strings?
    Usual practices is to leave the TestStandStrings.ini alone in the NI\Language\English folder and add or modifiy the CustomStrings.ini in the User\Language\English folder.
    In the Teststand workspace file, include the ini file.
    In the deployment tool, you have the option too include the resource string file along with your test sequencefiles or enable the check button to include all files in the \Users folders.
    Hope this helps

    Digging through the classes gives me a pretty good guess that the missing resource is in "orabpel.jar" which is on the classpath and in the class exception_cube_bpeltest.java.
    "exception.20001.severity", "10"
    "exception.20001.type", "error"
    "exception.20001.name", "Assertion execution error."
    "exception.20001.description", "A problem occurred while converting the assertion value \"{0}\" to a number at activity \"{1}\"."
    "exception.20001.fix", "Please change the value to be a number or do a string comparison."
    What I'm looking for is the nicely formatted exception to come back from Oracle so that I can wrap it up in our own exception handling and deal with the situation nicely. Instead of a java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError - I think I'm supposed to be getting a proper "ORABPEL-20001" exception.
    I suspect it's got something to do with classpath. But I've checked that orabpel.jar is on the classpath.
    Please help :-)
    - Richard Perfect.

    I think it is a classloader related problem. I had the same situation when updating BPEL Tasks from a custom web application using REMOTE_CLIENT (RMI) method. I have no clue which classloader loads which class so I choosed a simple workaround: extracted the com.collaxa.cube.i18n folder and its contents from orabpel.jar into the oc4j container's applib directory. This way every classloader can find the resource files. (Do not copy the orabpel.jar into applib. It causes other classloader related dependency problems. Copy only the resource files.)

  • "Adobe PDF" resource file

    I am "climbing the walls" on this one - When I create document (book) in InDesign and print to PDF I get the following error:
    Unable to find "Adobe PDF" resource files
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Adobe PDF\Settings\Adobe PDF Converter.joboptions.
    Do you want to run this installer in repair mode?
    I have been creating these same documents in InDesign and printed to PDF for months - I had even just, 5 - 10 minutes, before created this document successfully - but then all of a sudden BOOM it won't work.
    I have tried researching this problem but haven't found anything that works, HELP!!!
    Thank you,
    Reba

    I had a similar problem printing to Adobe PDF (as the default printer) and the error was exactly as described above.
    Unable to find "Adobe PDF" resource files
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Adobe PDF\Settings\Adobe PDF Converter.joboptions.
    Do you want to run this installer in repair mode?
    Looking for this folder to see if the file was there, I could not see "Documents" in All Users. However when I tried to create a folder Documents, the error said it already existed. So, the folder structure exists, just not visible. Next, using a command prompt I navigated all the way to the Settings folder described above and looked to see if the Adobe PDF Converter.joboptions file was there. It was missing.
    I took the advice of Peter Speir, find any .joboptions file, rename it and copy it to this location.
    Copying to hidden folders has to be done at a Command prompt. If your not sure how to do this...
    1. Copy a .joboptions file to c:\. I chose Standard.joboptions.
    2. Rename to the file name it expects, in this case, Adobe PDF Converter.joboptions
    3. Open a command Prompt (type cmd at Start, Run). Then navigate to the Root C:\ with this command
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users>cd c:\
    4. Paste string below (or one that matches the location of the file you are missing) at the Command prompt. (To paste into the command prompt in XP, click the upper left corner of the command prompt window, select Edit from the context menu, and Paste).
    (the below is actually all one line though here it may appear to be two lines).
    C:\>copy ado*.joboptions C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\DOCUME~1\ADOBEP~1\Settings
    You could probably use the full folder names, i.e. instead of DOCUME~1, use Documents and Settings. I didn't try it. But if that fails, the above does work.
    Might help, can't hurt. Worked for me!

  • JDBC connections using resource file

    I have heard that a resource file can be used to
    assign an URL and DB2 driver to establish a connection.
    What is a resource file and how can this be done?
    We have several URL and DB2 drivers to assign depending on what server we are processing on.
    thanks

    Hi,
    here's a sample:
    try {
    Properties properties = new Properties();
    properties.load(instance.getClass().getResourceAsStream("/sqlhandler.properties"));
    String driver = properties.getProperty("jdbc.driver");
    String url = properties.getProperty("jdbc.url");
    String login = properties.getProperty("jdbc.login");
    String password = properties.getProperty("jdbc.password");
    Class.forName(driver);
    connection = DriverManager.getConnection(url,login,password);
    The resource I use is a properties file that is (in this instance) located in the same place as class file. You can fully qualify the location of the resource if you wish.
    Hope this helps

  • Servlet -- Resource File

    I have a file Resource File that I want to open in a Servlet.
    The code in the servlet attempting to access the resource file.
    Properties objProperty = new Properties();
    objProperty.load(ClassLoader.getSystemResourceAsStream("jdbc.datasource"));
    String strSource = objProperty.getProperty("datasource.source");
    String strUsername = objProperty.getProperty("datasource.username", "");
    String strPassword = objProperty.getProperty("datasource.password", "");I get a null pointer exception. Where do I put this Resource File file in the .war directory structure? Do I have to set any other variables (classpath, etc...) and where?
    Thanks,
    DeltaCoder

    i assume it is a file called jdbc.datasource? try putting it into the root of the web-application.
    but you might want to consider using resource-references instead. the configuration depends on the application-server though. here's an example how to define resource-references for the jboss-server.: http://www.huihoo.com/jboss/online_manual/3.0/ch07s22.html
    hope this helps ;-)

  • Must Resource files be located in jar package?

    I use ResourceBoundle.getBoundle() method to get resource. I found that the resource files must be packaged into the application jar file. Can the resources be isolated from jar file?

    From the link you have provided:
    &#9679;        Do not load a JDBC driver to use them directly. Instead, use the mapping lookup API (see: Mapping Lookups), or the JDBC Connector Service in the SAP J2EE Engine.
    &#9679;        Do not use the package java.io to write directly to files, or use it to read directly from files.
    <b>&#9679;        Do not use a class loader in your classes.</b>
    &#9679;        Within a Java mapping program, do not call java.lang.System.exit() or java.lang.System.setProperties().
    &#9679;        Do not create or use any threads.
    &#9679;        Do not use any network sockets.
    I guess it won't be able to do this.
    Probably you could deploy a application and consume its service.

    Henrique.

    I want to know how resource files are implemented in java. I am using a window98 as OS.
    Thank you

    I wonder if this might help:
    ResourceBundle rbd = ResourceBundle.getBundle("Filename");
    to get a property out of the resourceBundle use:
    String varname = (String) prb.getObject("propName");
    As allways, check the API

  • Can a Resource file (.fr) be of type "Unicode text document"?

    Dear All,
    I'm doing string localization in my plugin programs. I created a resource file (MyPlugIn2_arAE.fr) for defining arabic strings. When I saved this file, I selected the type as "Unicode Text Document". Becuase only if it is a Unicode Text Document my arabic strings are preoperly saved. If I selected the type as "Text document" and save the file, all my arabic strings became "????????" like that. Now the problem is, it's giving a compilation error. (This is because the resource file MyPlugIn2_arAE.fr is saved as "Unicode Text Document").

    string comment = oDataSet.Tables["data"].Rows[i][2].ToString();
    //the elements array contain all the columns filled
    string[] elements = comment.Split('-'); //when it reaches the comma, it will jump to the next line

    string commentVal = elements[2]; //Comment
    string[] row = new string[] { oDataSet.Tables["data"].Rows[i][0].ToString(), oDataSet.Tables["data"].Rows[i][1].ToString(), font, datestamp = DateTime.Now.ToString(), commentVal };
    Gridview_Input.Rows.Add(row);

    From your description, it seems that your resource file is a XML format file, if so, you could also have a try to use
    LINQ To XML which is easy to operate the XML file to add new row to your resource file, and here is an example to show how to add a new element/row to the specific tree:
    Linq to XML Add element to specific sub tree

  • Best way to store string resources for localization?

    My midlet has alot of string resources that I want to be able to easily customize, and I wonder what is the best way to do this using J2ME? To make the code easy to localize I would like all strings to reside in a single file (either a class file or a file system file). It doesnt seem that there is an easy way to do this (eg a "resource file" or some such). Do I just need to create a class that defines a bunch of static final String objects?
    Thx,
    Fred

    [HypnosFred],

    Do I just need to create a class that defines a bunch of static
    final String objects?Declaring the String object variables as static final String objects upfront may help too but cannot be shared between MIDlets in a MIDlet suite though.

  • Accessing JARred resource file

    Hi,
    My app uses an XML file. How might I construct the java.io.File so that when I JAR the app, it can be executed from any where on my file system? Currently, I have to hardcode the File absolute path which is very limiting and undesirable.
    e.g: private File configFile = new File("c:\dev\myproj\config\config.xml");
    works, bit I wish to have the resource file bundled in to the JAR, so the path must be relative i.e accessible to the app, no matter where the JAR is executed from. How can I achieve this please?
    thanks
    Paul.

    To find about more about a class, you can always look it up in the API: [http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/]
    For example, here is the constructor in question:
    [http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/io/InputStreamReader.html#InputStreamReader(java.io.InputStream,%20java.lang.String)]
    Click on the [charset |http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/nio/charset/Charset.html] link for more information about that string.
