Networking and SWING connection

hello,
i am developing a voice chat software, which requires recording, sending voice over the network;this module works by itself very well when i put the code of this class(instantiated an object) inside the "actionperformed" event of the button,
my module(record/send) creates 3 threads and works over the UDP connection.it does not work the way it should i.e when compared to working independantly.please help. should i use AWT threads? will running it from GUI create any networking problem relating to the port nos.?

I'm confident that we have everything set up on the Mac correctly. We've tried it every which way, but there are only a few settings to choose from and now that we have the internet sharing for the ISDN modem to any computers on the network I think that's correct. I'm also confident that the problem is on the PC side of the setup. We've taken the firewalls off both computers, at least until we get things running and then we will tweak it. But both computers are wide open. I know this isn't a PC forum, but since this is a PC and Mac connection I'm working on, I'll throw this out there.
In the "Network Connections" on the Control Panel of the PC, there is an icon labeled "Internet Gateway". The 2 Buffalo routers show as LAN connections as well. But the icon "Internet Gateway" states underneath "Internet Connection unavailable - device disabled Internet Connection." I double clicked on the icon and that brought up the "Internet Connection Properties" box. I selected the "Settings" tab and it launched a box for "Advanced Settings" with a "Services" tab on top. There was nothing in the "Services" tab window but there is an "Add" button at the bottom. I selected that and a "Service Settings" window pops up. It asks for the IP adress of the computer that is hosting the internet service on the network. So I assume I have to input the IP address of the Mac mini. But under that are two boxes that ask for the External Port number and the Internal Port number for this service, and to the right of this are options to select TCP or UDP. I think this may be where our problem is but I have no clue what to input for the External or Internal Port numbers. I went all through the Network, Sharing, and Accounts, sections on the Mac and could find nothing about port numbers. Any ideas on where to find the correct numbers? I tried to do it with just inputting the IP address and no port numbers and it wouldn't accept that.

I rented a movie via Itunes on  my PC but half-way through the download recieved a "An unknown error has occured (-50)" notification. This is not my first rental, and I have verified my network and all connections to be good. I have rebooted Itunes and resumed the download of the movie only to receive the same error code. Has the movie file been corrupted? Can I recover the rental even though the time has elapsed? Will I be charged?

Did you figure this out?  I haven't rented a movie in this new iTunes yet and saw one tonight I wanted to rent.  Same fricken thing is happening to me.  I hate this new iTunes, and I really hate that there are problems like this....why the heck do they have to fix something that isn't broken and break it?  This just really stinks.

IPHONE 5:  can't receive calls and random error messages, such as "could not activate cellular data network" and "no connection - network unavailable, please connect to wifi or cellular network."  This occurs even when signal strength or wifi is operational, and it does not matter whether wifi is on or off.  ATT went through the standard protocol - resetting network, resetting sim card, etc.  No changes.  Other phones working fine in same region with same carrier.  Apple's solution is to restore software, but haven't gone there yet.  Anyone successfully addressed this/these issues?

I should point out that it worked when the iPhone was set back to factory settings, but when restored with the backup, data/internet no longer works again, and I get the "Could not activate cellular data network" error message yet again.

  • I need help setting up a wireless network and getting connected to the internet. I have a RCN cable modem now and tried to install a wireless linksys today and it was a disaster

I have a MAC desktop and RCN cable that I have internet through now. I tried to set up a linksys wireless router today and could not get the network settings right, or figure out how to create the network, or get connected. I was successfull for only a few minutes because my phone and laptop had picked up the signal. However my desktop still would not connect to the internet. I had to restart my cable modem after because even after returning to directly inserting the desktop to the modem I could not get on the internet. I am able to get on now but would like to have wireless for my laptop and phone. Do I have to have an Apple router? Are there any easy steps I can take to set up a network without doing any damage to my desktop? I am so lost and have been getting pop ups and even my time changed.
Please help a new person to Apple!

why dont you go to linksys.com/downloads and get the quick install for your adpter

  • Connect Fios to Cat5e home network AND Coax connections?

My Verizon fios system was recently installed.  My home is wired for a Cat5e home network and standard Coax in all rooms.  The fios system is currently connected to the Coax connections and the TVs and Fios router all work fine.  Problem is that I would also like to use the Cat5e connections for devices that access the internet that don't have wireless capability and are not proximate to the Fios router.  Is it possible to connect the ONT to my Cat5e home network so that I can connect other devices directly to the Cat5e outlets, and keep the existing Coax set-up?
I understand that the standard Fios set-up only allows using either an Ethernet output or the Coax output, but not both.  Any suggestions?
One option might be to move the router to the basement (where the equipment is located that I want to connect to the Cat5e network), but then the router will likely be too far from the rest of the house to receive the wireless signal.  In that case, is it possible to connect a wireless router in another location (I have a Belkin wireless router).  Or do I need to get another router from Verizon?

    DC_Sox_Fan wrote:
I just spoke to Verizon Fios Tech Support and they claim that it is NOT possible to use both the Coax and Cat5e connections.  So, for those that have a Cat5e home network, but still want to use th Coax for TV, Verzon says you are out of luck.
Thats not strickly true but its not bad info either. You cant use both the coax and cat5 at the same time for INTERNET. The coax internet port (moca) is not active at the same time as the ethernet port. However, many systems use the ethernet for internet and coax for TV.
Depending on how your house is set up this can be accomplished many different ways.
I would assume that you have some kind of utility closet were all the ethernet cables converge, where you could place the router so that it can connect to all the rooms. Is this correct? If so, is there also a coax connection in there? Again, if so, you could place the verizon router in the closet, connect the coax to the router for the link to verizon and the TV's and then connect the ethernet to the lan for the rest of the house. This would be the simplest way assuming that you have this type of connection available to you. there are many other ways but it would all depend on what you have available to you and how your house wiring is set up

  • Logged on to my network and says connection lost won't let me open web pages ?

Ipad 2 logs on to network then when i open safari i get message that safari can't open because of lost connect while other computers still work ?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • How to connect a EE 4G HUAWEI E5776 to Airport network and share connection

    Help Please!
We live in a rural area with poor <6MBS down <1MBS Up Broadband. I have purchased a Huawei E5776 on EE in the UK and can get 16MBS down and about 14mps up.
Now my problem, large house with 1 Aiport Base Station and 3 Express repeaters share the network around the house. Does anybody know how I can get the Huawei on the wireless network so it can be repeated and used throughout the house? PS I also use 3 Apple TV V2 and various other internet devices.
Many thanks for any help I have tried all I know and guess it might be down to correct use of IP address and router address but as of now Im stuck. Please keep it to the level of advanced amater not IP professional!
    J

You would need to connect the wireless modem to a Mac equipped with Ethernet and share the WWAN connection over Ethernet.
OS X Mavericks: Share your Internet connection
Connect the Ethernet port to the WAN port on the base station. Configure the base station in bridge mode.
AirPort Utility 6.x: Set up a base station or AirPort Time Capsule as a bridge

  • Using Airport for office network and still connect to public wifi

    HI
I work in the public sector and we have open public wifi network that we can connect to, but have no control over and would never be given no access by our service user. we are a small sub contractor in a office tucked away.
We have 3 Macs and 2 wifi printers and several iPhones and iPads, our thought was to link them all and create a mini local network using the Airport extreme but still stay connected to the Wifi. as the only other option would be a 4G router but that is hit and miss with the connection.
After much stubbornness on my behalf i can not seem to fathom a way round this problem, is there a solution with the devices we have
    Ian

No we can't get access from the company we work for they let us have wifi access only with no controls.
and the building has no phone access as we are in the middle of a hospital.
the office has all its devices and printers that we can't link but separately we can connect to the guest wifi

  • Airport Card finds network and says connected but won't let me on internet!

My airport is on and finds a network, shows full strength of signal (like it's done for the past 8 months). But it has stopped letting me onto the internet. Safari and Mail hang and say they are not connected. If I go ahead and plug the ethernet cable in (from same network) it starts up fine. I live in a hotel and have done the same thing for 8 months, why today would it start doing this? Can anyone help. This is my first mac and I haven't the foggiest how to deal with this. I've turned airport off, restarted, turned it back on etc. It always finds a signal and says it's ready, but won't let me onto the internet. Thanks for any help you have.

Is the internet service also password protected? (As in, do you need a password for both the wireless and for the internet connection?) If so, then when you run the "assist me" option you should set up a PPP connection. That's my situation but I still have problems with it remembering my settings after rebooting or disconnecting...

  • New MacBook Air having trouble connecting to the network and staying connected

I have an iMac as my prime and a MacBook Air as my remote. My network is all Apple. If I close the lid on my MacBook Air it immediately disappears from finder as a shared resource. However, if on first run though I put it to sleep and then close the lid, it will remain on the network as a shared resource. From hereon in, I can just close the lid to put it to sleep and its fine.
If I restart either computer or both computers, I have to go through the first run routine again. What makes matters worse is I’m trying to do an 11pm Retrospect backup of the Air and if it gets lost from the network Retrospect is unable to find the device. I have to do a locate in Retrospect and then let it do its backup.
I think this putting it to sleep on first run and then closing the lid to maintain stability is just a workaround I accidentally discovered. I don’t think it should be working like this. I think if I just close the lid and let it sleep that way on first run it should remain on the network as a shared resource and I should continue to see it on my iMac in Finder but this isn’t the case.
I’m really looking for opinions on this issue, if others have experienced this and is there anything that can be done about it. I’ve got mixed messages from Apple Tech support but Retrospect tech support said I’m doing everything right. This to me seems like a bug in probably the software. The machine runs fine except for this one little quirk.
    Kerry

Yes its ticked. I’ve worked at this for two weeks and have gone through every iteration I can think of. Apple said that it is normal that the lid has to be open to have the shared resource but as long as on first sleep I put it to sleep first then close the lid it remains in the iMacs finder Window as a shared resource. And I can open and close the lid from thereon in and it is always there as a shared resource and Retrospect can locate it for backups.

  • Slow networking and internet connections after update 10.5.6

    hello everybody,
i just read a post on a german newswire about slow internet connection since leopard update 10.5.6 concerning the Fritz!Box.
i'm in france and experience exactly the same problems working over a standard adsl-provider box.
does anyone have the same porblems or is this a known issue?

Yes, it's a known issue (at least on these forums) There have been several other threads within the past two weeks that discuss this in great detail.

  • Trouble connecting to wireless networks and slow connection.

For the past three weeks or so I've been experience difficulty connecting to networks I previously had no trouble connecting to. I'm only able to go about 15 feet or so away from a wireless router before my speed either drops through to the floor or the connection is lost entirely. I've tried looking through forums all over the internet, but I wondered if anybody had any insight into what I could do to get my wi-fi back up to speed?

  • Access connections does not see wireless networks but can connect if you know the SSID

Running a Thinkpad x200 using windows 7 and Access Connections 5.42.
A few weeks ago i was traveling and was connecting to a hotel wireless network.
Could receive email but wasn't able to send email due to hotel port restrictions so long-story short version-- IT staff at hotel told me to connect via LAN. Which i did by simply plugging in LAN line to the thinkpad and to the hotel -- port -- no other changes. have done this a million times at home and elsewhere.
    All is well....
    until....
I get home and i notice that when i use access connections, it doesn't see any wireless connections (no icons in the radar screen). It automatically connects to my home network and i can use the home profile to connect.  Same for any connection that i know the SSID for -- i can't see it but i can connect to it.
But it doesn't show any icons during "find" or find again. It only shows the home icon i am connected to. If i disconnect and try to find wireless networks. It doesn't show any.
    So i know
    1) radio is working
    2) can connect via lan
    3) can connect to a known wireless if i know the SSID and either manually configure it or if i have the profile saved
    4) i have run antivirus, malwarebytes - etc -- all clean
    5) have rebooted, turned radio on off
    6) system restore doesn't help
    7)  all wireless networks are now invisible to radar screen. Have tried this at starbucks, around town - etc -- available wireless network icons are invisible
I'm not sure that hooking up LAN in the hotel did anything but it seems too coincidental. Also seem to recall a thread where this has been known to happen.
    Help!!!

First off, it sees the networks. That's good. You reset network settings which usually corrects a number of problems. Let's focus on your home network and getting connected to that.
    1. Reboot your router (just power it off for 10 secs). Try to connect. If it works, you are done. If not, step 2
    2. Reset your network settings again. However, this time log onto your network by tapping Settings > WiFi > Other and re-entering your network name, security settings, and password.
Check your connection by tapping the blue > next to the network name with the checkmark. If your IP starts with 169.x, then you are connected but your router is not issuing you an IP address. This leads to a couple of additional problem areas - WEP encryption and outdated router firmware.
If you continue to have problems, tell us which router/model, security settings used, etc.
