Networking changes between Solaris 10 x86 10/08 (u6) and previous versions?

Solaris Community:
We have a J2SE CORBA-based application (that uses the default Sun ORB) that has run without problems on Solaris 8, 9, and 10 on both SPARC and, more recently, X86 platforms. Upgrading our client side machine (X4100 M2 Opteron platform) from Solaris 10 x86 5/08 (u5) to Solaris 10 x86 10/08 (u6) has resulted in threading or socket contention issues that we have not experienced previously. Using Live Upgrade, we can quickly go back to the u5 install on the client machine .... and the problems go away .... going back to u6, however, and the problems begin to show almost immediately. Our Java code base is identical as is the version of the JDK (1.5.0_16), so it would appear that there must be an underlying change to socket, networking, or threading behavior between these two versions of Solaris.
Thus far, I've not been unable to find details of changes either in the networking support or the threading model that might explain this .... or course, I don't have great expertise in these areas.
I've tried to use 'ndd /dev/tcp SOME_PARAMETER' for all of the /dev/tcp parameters returned by 'ndd /dev/tcp \?' to try to see if there are underlying changes in the /dev/tcp parameters .... but have not found any differences between Solaris 10 u5 and u6.
Can anyone point me to resources that would discuss changes between Solaris 10 u5 or u6 that might explain the problems that we've encountered? Or, alternatively, other system parameters that I could check that might explain changes in either TCP socket or threading behavior?
Thanks for your input,
John

I have a vague memory of someone reporting something similar which turned out to be due to a solaris feature called tcp_fusion.
To check whether thats your problem or not try the following.
Add following line in the /etc/system file.
set ip:do_tcp_fusion = 0
Once the /etc/system file is updated, it will be necessary to restart the system before the workaround will take effect.

  • Difference between SAP-CRM 2007 UI and previous version UI.

    hi,
anyone knows the differences difference between SAP-CRM 2007 UI and previous version UI.
anykind of links or files are helpful.
    regards.
    raman.

    Hi,
actually quite a late response and I think all the rather technically focuses comments have already been given, incl. the link to a really good slide deck, that explains all the technical architecture details on what exactly we did.
From an end user perspective some other statements on what we did:
    (1) From an information architecture and visualization perspective we acted based on feedback from our customers in the last years, which led to some restructuring of the screen, e.g. moving the navigation bar from the top area of the screen (horizontal) to the left hand side --> sounds simple but users tend to have problem seeing thing at the top of the screen. We also decided to arrange the information for e.g. an account or an opportunity not in a tab oriented format. Again usability tests in CRM had shown that users often find it hard to see and understand that tabs contain additional information. We now show the details in assignment blocks below the header information in a scrollable format. Vertical scrolling is a behavior of a screen that most users know from their internet experience. Those are just two exampels of what we did in this area
    (2) We also have put a large focus on well known web behaviors, like drag & drop and personalization in general, knowing that on the one hand side, no matter what standard UI we deliver, users tend to adapt it exactly based on their needs and wishes. So you will find really easy to understand personalization options everywhere in the new CRM Web Client UI. To achieve this we used lots of web 2.0 techologies that enable especially these easy interactive capabilitites.
    (3) Finally, and this relates directly to the arguments mentioned in (2) we focused as well on really easy UI configuration. Again, in every customer project user interface changes are made, to adapt the SAP default to the customers needs. here we invested a lot to make the 60-80% most common UI changes done in projects as easy as possible, that even non-technical people can generally do it (like Power users).
Hope this clarifies some arguments what from the users point of view has been done and what the advantages are.
When you follow the same link as mentioned by Nadine above, you can also find a presentation UI Concept, which explains all the details rather from a users perspective.
Best regards and enjoy the new UI ..and every feedback is very much welcome, only with your feedback we can improve the solution even more.

  • Difference between FCE 3.5 and previous version

I was considering upgrading to FCE 3.5 from FCE 3.1. I don't have an Intel-mac and was wondering if there was much of a change in features between the new and previous version that warrants the purchase.
As best I can tell, the difference seems to be more LiveType fonts/templates. But are there new features in FCE 3.5, beyond that? Marketing docs and chats with Genius Bar folks isn't clearing it up. For instance, the box says RT rendering but didn't the past version FCE HD 3 have that?
I'm defiitely biased to buy, but don't want to buy a version because it's just univeral, when i'm not running a non-Intel mac. Is there a grid somewhere that charts the differences between the two version.

Tom, could you clarify something about the new RT playback?
With 3.0 you have to stop and change the picture quality from one of three presets - High, Medium and Low. (On the Low setting more effects can be played back instantly).
Does the Dynamic RT just automatically jump around these three settings (choosing the best one) or is there an infinitely variable transition between the High and Low settings?
Furthermore, can it choose a setting lower than the Low one (in 3.0) in order to show more effects instantaneously?
In short, if I updated, would I be able to get more effects playing back than I can on my present equipment when it is in the Low setting? Or does Dynamic RT just switch automatically through the same 3 settings but give no extra playback performance?
    Ian.
PS. Sorry for being so long-winded!

  • Firefox 5 is apparently incompatible with F-Secure anti-virus; F-Secure repeatedly pops up "Changed Application" messages; How do I restore my previous version of Firefox?

I just installed Firefox 5. Unfortunately, F-Secure's "Application Control" now repeatedly pops up "Changed Application" messages in an endless string. It will not accept my attempts to "Allow" the new version of Firefox. Since Firefox 5 is not compatible with F-Secure, I must return to my previous version of Firefox. I am very disappointed that you have put me to all this trouble. How do I delete Firefox 5 and return to the previous version of Firefox?

"F-Secure repeatedly pops up Changed Application"
So how is this Firefox's fault? Shouldn't you write to F-Secure so they fix that?

  • Difference between mastered for iTunes and previous versions?

Is there a noticeable difference between Mastered for iTunes albums and any previous versions? I purchased Bon Jovi's "Have A Nice Day (Special Edition)", and now it has been replaced with a Mastered for iTunes version. Is there any value or noticeable difference if I were to purchase the new version?

One of the inexpensive compilation downloads I purchased on iTunes was terrible, I'd much rather listen to the original mix of " I had too much to dream last night" than the remaster, which destroyed the song completely.
Well, there is really no way to improve on the sound of The Electric Prunes coming over an AM transistor radio!
I guess I'm suspicious of iTunes files in general. I am a dying breed, using separate amps and pre-amps and real speakers as well as Ultimate Ear earbuds and a great car system. The cuts that are engineered for iTunes are mixed for lo-fidelity appliances and just don't sound that good.
There are online download stores that cater to a more audiophile crowd.  Check out HD Tracks.

  • Nslookup output changes between Solaris 8 and 10

I have a customer that has asked why and if the output can be changed to match?
We have noticed a difference on the nslookup reverse lookup with
    Solaris 10.
    On Solaris 8 we get:
    # nslookup x.x.x.x
    Server: dnsserver.csd.disa.mil
    Address: x.x.x.x
    Name: hostname.my.af.mil
    Address: x.x.x.x
    On Solaris 10 we get:
    # nslookup x.x.x.x
    Server: x.x.x.x
    Address: x.x.x.x#53
    x.x.x.x(server ip in reverse).in-addr.arpa name =
    hostname.my.af.mil.
Why is the output on Solaris 10 different when doing an nslookup on
    the IP
address? The guys who work on the application noticed it and
    opened a
ticket. Is there something I can do to get the output to come out
    like it
does on Solaris 8.Any and all help would be appreciated....

SPARC doesn't need a split boot loader like BIOS/x86. The OBP can directly load from any slice. So 'boot disk:a' would boot from slice 0 and 'boot disk:g' would boot from slice 6.

  • What are changes between FP 10.0.42.34 and 10.0.45.2 that could cause AS2 code to run differently?

Hi, I am trying to debug a large Flash reading literacy application which is written in AS2. Everything works in 10.0.42.34. When our school customers upgrade to 10.0.45.2 they get blocked from proceeding with training.
The main movie has loaded an application to run a sequence of tutorial movieclips, driven by an xml input.
The application waits for each background plus movie to load and the plays the movie.
It then unloads the movie and background and proceeds to the next movie/background.
I am running the debugger in CS4 in both FP 10.42.34 and FP 10.0.45.2, the two [UnloadSWF] trace outputs happens in both, but the next step is missed. I am delving into the code right now, but I hope that there may be a hint in the changes made.
I see no errors or security sandbox issues in the trace output.
Can someone tell me what main changes there are in FP 10.0.45.2 that could cause AS2 code to run differently?
Currently we are going to tell our customers that they must downgrade Flash Player to keep their kids learning to read.
    Thanks,
    Sue W.

All these bug reports are probably describing same problem:
    http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-3993
    http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-4137
    http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-4121
Not yet any word from Adobe that this is considered a bug worth fixing.
I would also like to add that the bug failing to load or run older AS1/2 swfs is present in both latest release version FP 10.0.45.2 and FP 10.1.51.95 (beta 3). So it does not look like it has been fixed with 10.1

  • Compatibily problems between flash media live encoder 3 and fms version 2 ?

    hello
i am trying to setup a stream for a live event we plan
for this we want to use our "flash media server v. 2.04" and
    to encode the video the
    "flash media live encoder 3"
but im really shocked about the poor quality - actually its
    not working
the video is freezing for a while an then playing back very
    fast and then freezing again
    and the audio is stuttering
i tried propably all kinds of combinations of the settings
    without any success
very often the encoding session is being stopped and started
    again with the following
    error message:
    Fri Mar 13 2009 05:02:22 : Audio Encoding Started
    Fri Mar 13 2009 05:02:22 : Video Encoding Started

    and the media server says:
Sending error message: Method not found (FCUnpublish).
Sending error message: Method not found (releaseStream).
sometimes it restarts only the audio encoding
the machine for the streamingserver (windows version) is
realy strong an has a very fast
    internet connection
the encoding machine is a 2.2ghz macbook pro with windows xp
    and 6000 dsl connection
with the low bandwidth factory setting of the flash media
live encoder the cpu usage is
    about 16%
for the videoinput i want use a canopus ADVC-110 firewire
    capturedevice
but i also tried the apple isight usb 2.0 laptop-camera and a
    logitech quickcam express
    usb 1.0 webcam
    all with negative results
two colleques encountered the same problems on their machines
but when i upstream the video with an standart flash client
    the videostream runs stable
    without any problems
so i guess the problem is the flash media live encoder
is there a compatibily problem between the server version and
    the encoder version ?
thanks in advance for any hints

    Hi,
FMS 2.04 version doesn't support H.264 and AAC/HEAAC. So, you
can only use Vp6, Mp3 and Nellymoser codecs in FMLE for streaming
    to this server.
You are getting "Unexpected error" message within 50 sec of
your encoding session. This error occurs when either of the video
or audio device doesn't function properly. As you have mentioned
that various video devices gave negative results, try to use a
different audio device or uncheck the 'audio' device option and
    encode only video.
Exactly what was the nature of the negative results for
different video devices? Was it the same "unexpected error"
problem? Please share the steps, device and encoder settings also.
When you observe video freezing and audio stuttering problem
while playback, reload the flash player and let me know if you
    still see the same problem.

  • Any difference between pre-installed apps and previous versions?

I just bought a MacBook Air. I immediately transfered everything from my Time Capsule backup of my 2008 MacBook. The software on the MacBook was completely up to date via the App Store or Software Update. It didn't occur to me to consider that the new Air came with software pre-installed until just now.
Now I'm wondering if I overwrote anything important or if the Time Capsule/Time Machine restore takes into account anything that was pre-installed or if all the software was the same already and it doesn't matter. Normally, I could just use the included restore disks that come with the computer to answer this question myself but with the new Airs, there are no disks.
So I don't really understand how something like a new MacBook Air works. If I wiped the disk and used Lion Recovery would I get everything back that was on the original installation? This seems logical but I don't know if it is true. Anyone know the details about how this works?
    Thanks.

Just to double check.  Go into the Purchased tab of the App store.  You should see the apps are "installed".  If they have a button that says "install", I'd do that.

  • Intel network interface with Solaris 10 x86

    Hi,
I have been Googling all evening to try and find a solution to this, but here is the problem:
I have a PC built around an Asus P4C800-E system board, and I have Solaris 10 x86 01/2006 installed. I would like to get the Ethernet interface (Intel adaptor, running on a CSA bus) up and running - but for some reason I can't seem to get the driver to bind to the proper address (pci8086,1019 - from what I have been able to find out): It instead insists on binding to pci1043,80f7. Even though pci8086,1019 is listed in /etc/device_aliases, it won't play nice.
I know the NIC is working, and have tried it under other OSes (including Linux).
Although Solaris x86 "sees" something there, and the interface is plumbed (it can even tell when the network link is up or down), I can't get the interface to work - pings do not work, etc.
Is there a way I can convince the driver to bind to pci8086,1019 instead of pci1043,80f7?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Joovilhar.

Is 1043,80f7 the device's pci subsystem vendor and subsystem device id?
And 8086,1019 is the normal vendor/device id?
In this case everything would work as expected.
What is listed by "/usr/X11/bin/scanpci -v" for the ethernet controller?

Try to boot the kernel with various settings of the "acpi-user-options" variable,
to disable / enable ACPI. In previous Solaris x86 releases, when
something went wrong configuring an interrupt vector for a nic device,
the typical end result is a nic that is unable to receive incomming
packets. Maybe your Asus P4C800-E is still problematic with ACPI, with
    S10 x86 1/2006, and needs the acpi-user-options workaround.
    http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/danasblog?anchor=configurin g_solaris_acpi_at_boot
To change the "acpi-user-options" variable, edit the grub boot command
line and edit the "multiboot" line, e.g. append "-Bacpi-user-options=0x2".

    Thanks

kstat e1000g:0 might work, but I'm not 100% if kstat
statistics are supported by the e1000g driver. And if they are available,
I'm not sure if they are accurate.
kstat should list the interface speed, and the duplex setting.
