Networking with others involved in video editing...?

Does anyone know of a forum to discuss the issue of starting an editing business
and all that it involves? I don't know anyone else in the field and have questions that I would like to "bounce off" others. What to charge? Where to hire editors etc?
Thanks.

I haven't heard of one, but most people who want that sort of info simply ask here and on similar sites.
We have a number of professionals who use this and the FCP forum so if you give an email address they may be able to contact you confidentially with the details you require.
I don't think I could help you, as I recently did an extravagant "coming of age" birthday in a Hindu Temple, and provided 8 two-hour long DVDs and a CD with still photos.
My payment ........... a tin of Cadbury Roses chocolates.
As I said, I don't think I can help you !

  • HT5557 Can I share books on local network with other authorized family users? This was simple when my books were in iTunes.

Before using iBooks, members of my family were able to share their books through "Shared Devices" in iTunes. Once I moved my library to iBooks, books are not available to other members of my family. Is there a means to share books on local networks with other authorized users?

Thanks for the link.  I looked at this and tried it and it sync'd my wife's iBook with my account, so she now had my Apple ID logged into her iBook.  I'd like to be able to share my iBooks with her, but add them to her library as we were able to do with Home Sharing in iTunes.  I want her to be able to use her Apple ID with iBooks, but be able to read some of the books I buy on my account.  Does that make sense?
    Thank you.

  • Networking with other computers after xp updates stops

will networking with other computers  be possible , safely after xp updates stops?

None of the functionality of Windows XP will change.  Everything you can do today you will be able to do next month.  The only thing that is different is the fact that there will no longer be updates issued for XP.  If you
are doing ONLY internal networking with no internet access, you have nothing to worry about.  If you have internet access, then you will need to be especially certain that the anti-virus is up to date, and you have a good firewall running.

  • IT Manager of EBS impl looking to network with other EBS managers

I'm an IT manager responsible for, among other Oracle applications, an extensive enterprise EBS implementation including Financial, Procurement and HR modules. I'm looking for a forum (blog, conferences, local Pittsburgh organization, etc.) to network and collaborate with other EBS managers. Would love to pick the brains of my peers, learn best practices, exchange lessons learned, etc. One of my co-workers, the Manager of our Help Desk organization, used to attend an annual conference for Help Desk Managers. I'd love to find a similar conference for EBS Managers. Anything out there? Look forward to hearing back.

    Welcome to the forums !
There are plenty of resources to help you get connected.
For starters, become a member of Oracle Applications Users Group (OAUG) - http://www.oaug.org. The price of admission is a steal compared to the benefits. OAUG also hosts a week long annual conference (details on the website) in the spring. The OAUG has a Pittsburgh chapter that meets more often. Details at http://pittoaug.oaug.org/
There are Oracle forums dedicated to EBS where technical questions are discussed & debated - http://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=3

  • Swap optical drive with SSD for 4k video editing?

I've already swapped the original HD with an SSD 500gb and replaced the optical drive with the original HD as a secondary drive. That has worked nicely for a couple years. But now that I'm doing intense 4k video editing, I want to replace the HD in the optical bay with a 1tb SSD.
My question to you: Will the SSD perform at the same speed in the optical bay as it would in the main bay as a secondary drive? Or is there a speed limitation on the optical bay periphery and as such it's not worth putting a fast drive in there?
What alternative options would you suggest for video editing? My late 2011 Macbook Pro 2.5ghz core i7 with 16gb ram stalls when editing 4k footage off a firewire g-raid. I figured an internal SSD would perform faster and as a double benefit make my files portable without need for an external drive.

  • Mac Pro will connect to internet but not network with other systems

I have an iMac in my studio reception and a Mac pro and Macbook in my office. All three systems can connect to the internet but the Mac Pro has stopped networking with the iMac. However the iMac can network with the Pro. I have an ethernet cable connection to the Pro (no wi fi card) and I have a wireless router on the iMac which has enabled me to connect the Pro to other systems through wi fi. I also have a PC laptop and the Pro can connect to it via wi fi. Everything was networking properly several weeks ago and as far as I am aware I have not changed any settings. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this annoying little problem.

    Hello there, WoodenToy.
The following Knowledge Base article offers extensive troubleshooting steps for troubleshooting your issue:

  • How do I share video clips with others using the Starter Edition?

I have many videos on my Photoshop Album Starter Edition account.  Is there a way to share videos using the Starter Edition program?

I wonder the same thing. The icloud.com web page is pretty rediculous as of now.  What's the point of the page? Ive got an iphone that has my email, calendar, photos, etc.. what does the icloud page do? I think it's a work in progress cause I dont see a need to log onto it since my devices have all the info on it already? Yes, Id like to be able to log onto the icloud from work and see the pictures in my cloud.

  • After running Malwarebytes & it removing/quarantine threats, Firefox works & loads slow along with other programs. Videos are now really slow also.

I downloaded Malwarebytes to run a scan of my system. After it had detected some threats, It removed/quarantined all the threats it had found. I use Firefox & have been happy with it & have the latest version - 25.0.. I have since uninstalled it but my system loads very slow & all programs are affected including videos, etc.. The system was fine before this was done.

I have/had this exact problem -I just restored everything that Malwarebites "quarantined" (an option within the program), and it honestly seems better already. My wireless network connection was even restored and is working well again (after running Malwarebites the connection wouldn't automatically connect after sleeping as it did before).
My guess is, Malwarebites isn't so good at differentiating good from bad.
I've only been running the PC for about 20 minutes since restoring everything, but I've noticed improvements in everything (especially boot up). I'll update this if my results change, but as of now it seems to have fixed the problem.
*update -after restoring the quarantined items and removing the program from my PC everything seems to be running at it's original speed. Firefox, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver are all opening and running at near instant speeds (as they originally did).

  • Can't create airport/wifi internet-sharing network with other laptop

I have an iBook running Tiger 10.4.11 connected to the net with ethernet. The internet connection comes through a radio antenna which acts like a router to which I don't have access.
I want to share my internet connection, and to be able to transfer files, between the iBook and another laptop. I've tried it with two - one running Fedora 11 (mine) and one running Windows XP, and have the same problems with both.
I turn wifi on on the ibook and linux laptop. I turn on internet sharing from built-in ethernet to airport in System Preferences. First I try it with no encryption. 'Other settings may interfere with internet sharing' shows up; it tells me to enable Personal Web Sharing, which I do. When I click start Little Snitch tells me natd wants to connect to 10.0.2.1 (presumably the router in the antenna), which I allow. I try to connect with the linux laptop and it tries then disconnects.
    1) isn't personal web sharing for serving web pages? — why is it necessary here at all?
    2) what am I doing wrong in making my network work?
If I enable encryption using WEP, the other password asks me for authenticication, I put in the password, and it then tells me the network has been disconnected.
    3) is WEP the best encryption I can use from Tiger?
    4) I think the problem's with Tiger (both laptops can connect to other wifi networks not set up by me). Is there a piece of free software I can use to share the connection instead of the built-in one?
I can't make a functional network in reverse either (i.e. setting it up on the other laptop and trying to connect wirelessly with the ibook).
What I am trying to do is precisely this (http://my.safaribooksonline.com/0596009135/runmacx2-CHP-11-SECT-13) — it just doesn't work.

When I click start Little Snitch tells me natd wants to connect to 10.0.2.1 (presumably the router in the antenna), which I allow. I try to connect with the linux laptop and it tries then disconnects.
Back on that part, at that Point the Mac is a NATD Router, don't try to connect to the other computers.
On the Mac, with Internet Sharing enabled, open NetInfo Manager in Applications>Utilities.
From there on out, it's a bit foggy, but iirc Config>DHCP>Subnets><the subnet>, then down where it says com.apple.nat... what does it report for IPs?
If it were say 10.43.29.1 then the others trying to join should have that as a Router/Gateway, and then 10.43.29.2, 10.43.29.3, etc. as IPs.
Apple says you can't set it Manually, but I've had it work a couple of times.

  • Running an Intel Mac on a Wireless Network with other Power PC Macs

I know changing the Airport to WPA encryption will allow an intel Mac with either Mac OS or WinXP OS to access the airport.
If you have powerPC Macs also, what encryption will allow both Mac (intel and powerPC) and WinXP to access the airport?
Right now either WEP for all Macas or WPA for intel Mac (Mac & WinXP).

Mac Mini (Intel), iMac, eMac, iBook, G4, & Powerbook (all powerPC)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   also 10.4+

    Hi Sherwood!
If I recall correctly, an update to Windows XP (assuming you're using Windows XP) added WPA support to the existing WEP support. The same applies to Mac OS X.
Regardless, if both OSes are up-to-date they can use either WEP or WPA. But WEP and WPA should not be used at the same time for the same wireless network. Choose one and set your Airport first (create your infrastructure) and then set all computers to connect using that same security (add computers to your infrastructure). I suggest using WPA becuase it is more secure than WEP.
This link indicates when you can use WPA on your Mac and this link indicates when you can use WPA on your Windows system.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • Using Bridge over a network with others

Would Bridge be a good solution to set up photo library over a network that can be updated and modified with everyone on the network?

I believe that using Bridge to share image files on a network is possible. In fact, we're just about ready to golive with our image library on a network -- using Bridge as the browser.
Here's what I've discovered over the past sevral weeks of testing:
As Ramon correctly points out on this forum trying to share a centralized cache is indeed insane. But, as it turns out, it appears that one share cache files across multiple computers; providing these are Macs using CS4 of course. This is not the bext alternative but short of going with a cataloging system -- not always an choice for some organzations -- this is perhaps the only option available.
    2. I indexed our image library on my laptop, which took the better part of a day. Organizationally it consists of 56 folders, containing some 104,000 images for more than 434 gigabytes of space.
    3. I then copied the cache (and all files) to an external hard drive.
What I copied was on the following path: user>library>caches>Adobe?Bridge CS4>Cache
    4. I then went to a second computer -- networked to connect to the central image library drive --  and before launching Bridge I deleted the old cache file, and then copied the new cache file to the second computer. I then launched Bridge, navigated to the image library in the folders panel, clicked on several folders. One-by-one all the thumbs and previews loaded quickly and the metadata was right there as well, allowing for fairly quick and easy searching. And for us "searchability" is the KEY to having a central image library
    5. To add mages -- and here's where ity gets a bit klunky -- I intend to add subsequent folders as new images come in to be catalogued. I will then inform the designers that a new folder has been uloaded to the library -- they already have the path -- and that they will need to index that folder to make the images "searchable.
Hopefully this will work on all our designers' machines as well. I'll know more by the end of next week.
BUT, there are a couple of things to consider:
    1. Once a folder is indexed it cannot be moved nor can any of the files inside that folder be moved or manipulated in any way. For example, if you returned to a file to add additional metadata, then each user would have to reindex that particular folder on their local copy of Bridge. Having said that, it's not terribly difficult or challenging. In our case, since the image library is permanent once these folders are indexed and "accessed" on each machine that's it. It's the initial indexing that can take so much time.
    2. Make sure that permissions are in place before you golive. In our situation just me and my director have read/write permissions. All others have read only. This allows anyone to pull an image out of the library and use it as they see fit once the copy is on their desktop of course. They simply cannot make any changes, additions or alternations in the existing folders and files ON THE LIBRARY DRIVE.
    That's it for the moment.
    Stay tuned.

  • Network with other computer

I am completely lost with the new forum environment that I find highly confusing and user unfriendly.  Why someone got this creazy idea of changing something which worked well before ??????
But I have no other choice that putting my question here, hoping that someone will find it and suggest something.
I want to build up a network link between my MacPro and another computer.  So far I can do it by choosing my user directory create by default when I set up my account in the main drive.  Now I want to also have access from another computer another to anothr drive inside my MacPro.  Hav can I do that ?

All the action occurs on the computer whose files you want to share. You need to use:
    System Preferences > Sharing > [√] File Sharing ...
... to turn on the feature.
You will also need to have:
System Preferences > Accounts > Guest account ...
... showing [√] Allow guest to connect to Shared Folders
On each other computer, you will use Mac OS X Finder:
Go menu > Connect to Server ...
    ... to initiate the connection.
The dialog box inviting you to log in is presented by your local computer, but all the information will be forwarded to the computer holding the files you want to share. In addition, the local computer, in trying to be helpful, makes several BAD guesses that are very distracting.
It guesses that the username you want is the one where you are currently logged in, which is almost always WRONG. Then it pre-populates the password field with the wrong number of bullets. This is also WRONG, but this is because it has no way of knowing how long the password actually is.
If you want to share something other than the Public Folder, you will have to login with an Admin ID or specify what Volumes or folder should be shared by using additional features in the File Sharing panel.

  • Bluetooth and network with other people I don't know...?

Hi, I am a recent convert to apple and I was just looking over my settings on my mac and noticed that there were two or three people on my network. I have no idea who these people are and my bluetooth was on so that I can send things to my cell phone. Should I be concerned about my privacy? I also turned off all the windows sharing and file sharing settings, but when the bluetooth was on - these unknown people (one name was Cat Hackman, not very reassuring) appeared again. I would really appreciate any feedback on my issue and any tips for a newbie with lovely mac computer that I really enjoy immensely.

Hi, to answer Trevor's question tovex does appear as a blue ball in a box in the 'network' level. The ball is kinda greyed out not fully shaded like my 'servers' ball. However, when I press 'get info' on tovex it says it is an alias and also I am not allowed to make any changes.
To answer myhighway, under my system pref > network is shows my 'built in ethernet' as the active connection (green signal). The connection is through a cable modem. I have not installed bootcamp/windows
BTW there is a new person on there as well called 'fs 20 20's computer', this one just showed up when I turned on my mac today. They disappeared just now but they were on my system while I typed this post.
Any more help would be appreciated. Tammy

  • WRT610N networking with other hardware

    Support,
I have a ton of Linksys product from modems DOSOS1, routers WRT610N v1 and others WRT54G, switchs 4/8/16 port and Media DMA2200
Here is my delima I bought a Seagate BlackArmor (BA) NAS440 8TB and the network speed between the BA and the router is way below standard. Do you have a monitoring tool I can see what the heck is happening in the communication between the two for errors. I totally feel this is a Seagate product problem but been hammering there support board and learning the understanding of stonewalling. If you can proved a soucre to a monoting tool to prove my point I feel I will get faster action or update.
As there code seems to really only support Netgear network hardware.
    Reagrds,

I think you need to Google around and search for Network Monitoring Tool, I think that will help you in finding the problem between your devices.

Successfully installed an E3000 (internet and printer work) but cannot see other computers on my local network which are wired into the router, including my server.. I have read a bunch of messages but cannot find an answer. Thank you in advance

Usually when windows 7 computers are on the same LAN, they'll automatically tell you if another computer has already setup a homegroup. After making sure that upnp was kept enabled, delete any homegroups in all of the computers, then make a homegroup on one of the computers. When you go to create a homegroup on the other computers, they should tell you that one has already been created by another computer and to join that one. Here's an article for reference http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/home-sweet-homegroup-networking-the-easy-way#sectio...
