New AIR 2.5 Updater Framework Guidance Document

For those working on updating their AIR application to the 2.5 namespace, a new document was released yesterday that gives detailed instructions on what steps you must take to make sure the application updater framework changes go smoothly.
Update AIR 2 or earlier to AIR 2.5 Application Updater framework
Please let us know how it goes and if this document was helpful.
Thanks,
Chris

If you are developing a AIR 2.5 application, you will have to use the InMarket SDK for Flex 4.1 targeting AIR 2.5. Hope this helps.
Thanks

This was an issue with the Update Framework in AIR SDK 1.5.3, which has been fixed. If you still want to use the ApplicationUpdaterUI, you can replace the swc in Flex SDK 3.6 with an applicationupdater_ui.swc from a newer version of AIR.
Have a look at solution 3 in this post for some details on where to find the applicationupdater_ui.swc and how to replace it.

• Update framework always creates new desktop icon

I'm using the AIR update framework (ApplicationUpdaterUI),
and whenever the user updates the application, a new desktop icon
gets created (overwriting any existing desktop icon there). Is
there a way to suppress this behaviour, or can someone suggest a
workaround?
Here's the situation:
Our AIR app uses a separate bootstrapping application to
launch some services before the AIR application launches, so it's
important that the user does not run the AIR executable themselves.
Our installer creates a desktop icon that points to the
bootstrapping executable. When the user updates the application, it
replaces our desktop icon with the AIR shortcut.
Thanks!

All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.

Note: Apple has removed over 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

It sounds to me as though you are attempting to open a Pages 09 document with the Pages 08 application. If you do have Pages 09 on your computer, it may be that for some reason an existing Pages 08 application is invoked accidentally.

• Adobe AIR update framework

Hi all
I am using the framework with an application Flex built on AIR, no problem, everything is ok.
(The application is built using the db Sqlite).
Someone knows if it is possible to add one or more script, updating a precise version, to update the db (to add index, fields, etc...) ?
thanks in advance...

Thank you.
So, if I can understand, the framework itself does not include possibility of update of the db, and is necessary to execute scripts on the db after the update, like this:
public function check4Update():void {
//setApplicationVersion(); // Find the current version so we can show it below
appUpdater.updateURL = AirFlex.APPLICATION.configuration.syncEngineConfiguration.updateURI;
appUpdater.isCheckForUpdateVisible = false; // We won't ask permission to check for an update
appUpdater.addEventListener(UpdateEvent.INITIALIZED, onUpdate); // Once initialized, run onUpdate
appUpdater.addEventListener(ErrorEvent.ERROR, onError); // If something goes wrong, run onError
appUpdater.initialize(); // Initialize the update framework
private function onError(event:ErrorEvent):void {
Alert.show(event.toString());
private function onUpdate(event:UpdateEvent):void {
appUpdater.checkNow(); // Go check for an update now
// now, if the update is ok :
...... execution of the scripts to update the Db.....................
is right ?????

• Adobe Air runtime auto-update

Adobe Air runtime auto-updates itself without any notification or request on my Mac OSX 10.6.7 machine. I do not like this behavior. Is there any way to change it?

Please see our Disable automatic updates of the runtime document. However, please be aware that our updates include both new functionality and bug and security fixes. I'd definitely recommend keeping an eye out for future releases and manually installing if you disable the updates.

• Use the system lang of AIR applications auto update.

Hello,
I recently used the auto update framework for my AIR application, this works fine but i have a small problem.
I made some reasearches and i found AIR uses the system lang by default. When i install my package for the first time, the lang is my sytem lang but when i find a new update after running auto update of my app, the AIR updater window doesn't use my sytem lang, which is french, but uses english lang. I'd like to put this window in french.
Thanks.

Try loading and using the add-on from this link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/
Many add-ons do in fact work if you force them to run. The procedure to roll-back is given in this article: [[installing previous versions of firefox]]
Unfortunately the official Firefox policy is that you downgrade to 3.6 which is supported for a while longer, and not the now unsupported Firefox 4. If after installing and running the ''add-on compatibility reporter'' you still have problems there are ways around the official policy.
I think it is absurd that Firefox 4 may be used by tens of millions of users one day and a few days later those that upgrade to Firefox 5 should be not only told not to use a now unsupported browser, if they need to revert due to problems, but are actually obstructed in attempts to do so. • Application Update Framework in Mobile Based App

Alright, I have a tabbed application that I target mobile tablets with (iPad, and Android). However, I also export it as a desktop app. Now, the problem I am running into, is integrating the application update framework to execute when the app loads on the desktop only version (obviously the app store is handling the updates on the tablets).
On creation complete, I am calling the updateCheck:
//Update Framework Related
import air.update.ApplicationUpdater;
import air.update.ApplicationUpdaterUI;
var appUpdater:ApplicationUpdaterUI = new ApplicationUpdaterUI();
protected function updateCheck(event:FlexEvent):void
appUpdater.configurationFile = new File("app:/updateConfig.xml");
appUpdater.initialize();
My updateConfig.xml looks like:

<configuration xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/framework/update/configuration/1.0">

<delay>3</delay>
</configuration>
My updateDescriptor.xml consists of:

<update xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/framework/update/description/1.0">
<version>2.4.15</version>

* Various minor bux fixes.
* Various graphical inconsistancy fixes.

</update>
However, when I execute the app, I get this error:
Error #2044: Unhandled error:. text=Unhandled exception TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
And the app debugger highlights the following in updateConfig:

Any ideas guys?

A little digging and I found this issue: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3650590
Apparently not just Mavericks. This was an issue with the current released of AIR 3.9. I confirmed that downloading the beta of 3.9 released on 10/29/2013 seems to have fixed the issue.

• I have Keynote'09. I started a new Keynote document, closed it, came back to continue on it. I tried to open it and received the drop-down window "need a newer version of Keynote to open this document." ???

I have Keynote '09 and have used it many times. Today I started another Keynote document, stopped for a while, came back to continue, and received, "You need a newer version of Keynote to open this document." ?? Stumped.

IOS Pages 2.0 and 2.1 implement an entirely incompatible document format with Pages ’09 v4.3. It cannot open them, and you are then prompted to update to Pages v5+ which is compatible with your IOS Pages.
Unfortunately, updating to Pages v5+ is a bad thing, as it is a brand new application that has omitted over 90+ features from Pages ’09 v4.3. When you update to Pages v5+, it will move your old still functional version of the earlier Pages into /Applications/iWork. Aside from all the missing functionality, Pages v5+ will likely damage older documents that depend on specific Pages ’09 v4.3 features (including AppleScript and custom Templates).
Oh, by the way, the older and new Pages documents have the same filename extension (.pages) making document organization difficult without applying different tag colors to old and new documents.
We are recommending that users remain on their earlier Pages version. You may have to export documents from IOS Pages as Word .docx to avoid the OS X Pages update notice.

• When I try to open a recent document I get the following message "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document." I have downloaded version Pages version 5.2.2 and the app store confirms this, but my Pages About reports that I am using 4.3

When I try to open a recent document I get the following message "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document." I have downloaded version Pages version 5.2.2 and the app store confirms this (and won't let me download it again), but my Pages About reports that I am using 4.3

Here is the solution that I received from the chat line.
When you update applications like Pages it usually keeps both versions on the computer. So what most likely happened is it didn’t put the new version on your dock. So to fix this, open a finder window. And go into applications which should be listed on the left. Scroll down and you will see Pages listed in here. And the icon should look different. You can drag that icon down onto your dock.Open that and you then can access your documents
