New drive has password issues

Hi world,
I had to change my intel iMac hard drive.
Luckily I had a back up, however on trying to open after copying the back up it appears the passwords don't work.
It also won't accept a new password even with the master password entered (which it appears to accept and then prompts for a new password)
Any ideas?
Thanks. SP

ok call me thick but just looked at the dbase folders installed in my start menu and there is a universal installer there, I have clicked on that and it has come up with an error,
OUI-10150:error:A runtime exception occurred while setting s_dlgCfgNamingLabelSIDnul in component Oracle Database 11g 11.2.0.1.0 Installation cannot continue for this component.
then it asks to tick one of the boxes:
Stop installation of all products or
Stop installation of this component only.
How do I fix this to continue with the installation. How this is related to the password issue? The password is case-sensitive in 11g so please check that you are using the correct password and it's in the correct case. If you can't remember the last password, issue the below command,
sqlplus / as sysdba
alter user sys identified by oracle; The first command would be required to run on the command-prompt.

  • New Drive has a Hardware Problem?

    Hi,
The old hard drive in my iMac finally failed (it was a Seagate with a known issue, but I never got it replaced). Today I put in a brand new drive, exactly same model as the old, but I still get the S.M.A.R.T. error "This Drive has a Hardware Problem that can't be Repaired".
Any clue what could possibly be wrong? I may have misplaced the EMI foam slightly (after some time, the fan spins up), but could that really be the cause? There were no fan problem with the old drive installed.
    I follewed this iFixIt guide:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iMac+Intel+27-Inch+EMC+2309+and+2374+Hard+Drive+Repl acement/1634/1
    Thanks!

I don't understand the SMART report, but unless you got a replacment directly from Apple, it wouldn't have been an exact replacment. That drive, even if it's the same model, has to have a special firmware for the internal temperature sensor and that's only available from Apple. If you've read the OWC blog for the late 2009s that says that you ony need to replace the drive with one from the same manufacturer in order to use the same sensor cable, I believe that's not correct.
The spinning up can be cured by using the free SSD FAN Control. But no idea if that's related to the SMART error. I only know about the temp sensor issue related to this. If this doesn't fix it, maybe you got a bad drive or the problem is located elsewhere, maybe on the SATA controller on the logic board. No idea.

  • New drive, restored OS + TM backup but now won't do hourly backup

Following a total HD failure, a new drive has been installed. I put Leopard on and recovered from the TM backup.
I tried to 'back up now' and a message was output saying that the last backup was older than 13 days (it was in the repair shop!), then it said that the volume not the correct one - error -18.
I repaired the disk with Disk utility and tried again. Now it wants to do a complete backup, rather than an incremental one. It creates a version '2' of my TM file and fails as there is not enough space.
I successfully recovered and the backups were working fine a few week before follow a complete rebuild. I must add that I didn't find the procedure easy without looking over here to help me recover (thanks).
I've spent a long time seaching for stuff about TM but cannot find a decent manual.
    Can anyone explain what's wrong?
Is there a time limit between backups whereby once it's reached a whole system backup must be taken.
Is there a full TM tech doc somewhere?
Given that things such as TM exist in order to rrecover from total failures, I would have hoped for a seemless recovery and certainly not one that requires my erasing my only backup to create a new one.
Oh and I didn't apply the lastest upgrades and now iTunes doesn't work (wrong release for library).
I'm off to install lastest updates but not 10.5.2 as don't want any more TM errors.
    Cheers

Is there a manual? No, not specifically but Apple does provide Mac 101- Using Time Machine in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard an online tutorial.
Some other articles available via the Apple support Knowledge Base:
Using Time Machine and troubleshooting Time Machine issues
Restoring files backed up with Time Machine
    From Mac World - Time Machine tips and troubleshooting;
And from TidBits - TidBITS Macs & Mac OS X- Time Machine- The Good, the Bad, and the Missing Features.
I believe one of the things you must do is be sure you have named your computer using the same name as when you made the backup. Use the Sharing preferences for this.

  • Mac Pro Hexacore does not recognize new drive

I have just received my new 2 TB Seagate constellation drive and the mac pro hexacore running OS X 10.6.7 does not recognize it.  From touching the drive it is warm and feels like it is running but nothing shows up on the desktop and Disc utility does not see it at all.  Since this is the highest quality drive with a 139 year MTBF it seems infinitely more likely that something is not right in the mac than in the drive.  In the past adding new drives has been simple enough but this one is not even showing up.  Ideas?

Actually I had ordered 2 of these drives and at first I thought it was an Apple problem but I put the second drive in and it worked perfectly, so the first drive must have been DOA.  Thanks for the reply.  I just wanted to make sure I had not forgotten to do something to make the drie be recognized.
    Thanks

I have a MacBook pro that has power issues and will not start but the hardrive is fine.  I do not want to lose all of my files so I was wondering if it's possible to transfer my hardrive from a older Macbook pro to a new one if I were to purchase a new one?  Also, the software is not updated as the computer hasn't worked for about 2 months.
Also, if it is possible to transfer the hardrive, would my iTunes music transfer as well?  It is not saved in the cloud.
Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.

You computer is probably perfectly repairable, but if you want a new one anyway, it is perfectly possible to transfer the data from the faulty one.
But it would be a mistake to simply put the old HD in the new computer.
    These are the steps:
Remove Hard drive from faulty computer. (very easy on Unibody MBPs, do-able but not so easy on older MBPs)
Put it in a cheap enclosure
    Connect it the new computer
    Boot up new computer.
If the new computer has never been run before the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to import your apps, data, settings etc from either another mac, another HD connected to the Mac or a Time Machine back up.
Obviously chose the second option (another HD connected to this Mac) and follow prompts.
If the new computer has already been run (so Setup Assistant doesn't run when you boot it up), you will need to use Migration Assistant...or run the installer again so that Setup Assistant runs again.

  • For many years, Device Manager has never found a new driver.

    Hi,
For many years, more than ten years.
    Look back, please.
Has Device Manager found a newer driver, when we are eager for?
    No, it has always said
"The best driver software for your device is already installed".
This is not only the case on Windows 10, but also Windows 8, 7, Vista, XP ...
Every version of Windows could never search even a single new driver.
Hardware manufactures have released newer drivers already.
Also, they have been certified by MS, i.e. WHQL passed.
I hope Windows 10 will be the first version that can find a new driver.

    @Ashidacchi,
Keep in mind, this "Search Automatically" option only searches Windows Update - it doesn't crawl the entire Internet to find the latest driver.  Many times Windows Updates is months, if not years, behind the newest driver available from the
manufacturer.  So you will probably continue seeing this result - I wouldn't count it as an issue as Microsoft doesn't upload every single latest driver available from every manufacturer.  It would just be too much of a hassle - for MS and for Intel/AMD/Realtek/NVidia/Lenovo/HP/Dell/ASUS....
the list goes on and on.

  • Mic issue: SB X-FI Extreme 7.1 PCI-express card. New driver/software to blame?

NMic issue: SB X-FI Extreme 7. PCI-express card. New driver/software to blame? My mic has worked perfectly up untill the new driver update. It is now version .04.000 released 30 June 09'. That was yesterday as of this post. It was a complete reinstall of the driver and software and a new updater. When I finished all of the updates my mic no longer worked. Keep in mind that I have 2 mics and neither of them work. With the old driver and software I was able to access the Creative Audio Control Panel and I would find a tab called "Jacks". In that tab I could select "line in" or "microphone". I would select microphone and all would work well. Now I have a completely dumbed down Creative Audio Control Panel interface with no option that is similar. I have clean wiped and reinstalled the driver and sofware updates 3 times now with the same effect. Can anyone help please? I really don't want to wait -3 weeks for Creative support to get back to me. The only thing worse than Creative support is UBISoft support!
    Thanks in advance.

  • ProTool Digi 003 new driver issues with Logic

I just purchased Logic Pro and have OS 10.9.5 running on a new 2.2 Ghz Inter Core i7 16 GB memory laptop.
I was told that the new driver for the Digi 003 would work with Logic and yet I have all kinds of crazy issues whenever I connect Logic to it.
The issues shift all around including midi issues, but the main problem is that no audio can be heard through the Digi 003.
There is a very faint (VERY FAINT) ghost of sound coming through but I can barely hear it.
I tried setting the output to the computer headphone jack but then none of the effects I have are audible.
When I try and record sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  All inputs are correct and I have tried changing them.
This has been hours on the phone with Apple who keep telling me that it's all AVID's fault. AVID has no tech support and doesn't care which is why I'm switching from Pro Tools to Logic after 15 years.
Buying a new interface would defeat the money savings that I thought switching to Logic would bring as well as sending a perfectly good piece of equipment to the landfill.
Any help appreciated but please keep the comments to civil and nice. Thank you.

  • Windows 7 Driver for Color Laserjet 2605dn is PostScript Only -- Has Specific Issues

This network-connected printer runs fine under XP SP3 with a PCL driver downloaded from HP (5 or 6, I don't remember).  New computer has 64-bit Windows 7.  Now HP is telling me to use the built-in Windows 7 driver (see http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/kb/docDisplay/?spf_p.tpst=kbDocDispl... but all I can find is PS, no PCL.  This driver works OK except on certain types of documents:
Printing a scanned document takes forever, if it prints at all.
Similarly for PDF pages that have background colors or anythign else unusual.
(I could send examples of problem pages it that would help...)
I can print these same documents easily and quickly on my XP computer with the PCL driver, so I'm assuming PS just chokes on these kinds of documents.
Is there an appropriate PCL driver for Windows 7 64-bit (or could I run a suitable 32-bit driver in my situation)?
Failing that, is there any other solution to this problem?  (I can't keep a Windows XP computer around forever!) -- jclarkw

    >> ... Any recommendation PCL5 vs. PCL6 with this old 2605dn? ...
As far as I can remember, the LJ 2605 printer has a very limited set of printer-resident PCL5 fonts, which means that:
Using bespoke software which directly generates print jobs (without the benefit of a driver) and which assumes that the normal set of LaserJet fonts will be available via standard font selection sequences, may result in unsuitable substitute fonts (from that limited set) being used.
The standard UPD PCL5 driver may also suffer from this problem (I don't know); even if it doesn't (i.e. it is aware of the limited font set), then use of other fonts in the source document will have to be satisfied by the driver either rastering the text (sending a bitmap image) or dynamcially generating and downloading a PCL5-encapsulated (subset) of the source (TrueType) font (which will increase the size of the print job).
As far as I'm aware, the PCL6 (PCL XL) intepreter in the printer includes the normal full set of fonts in the firmware.

My dad has dementia - does not remember his password. His hard drive has been erased. We need to reload Mountain Lion and can't figure out how to do it. Internet recovery asks for his Apple ID and password. He has no idea. I have an Apple ID but have never bought anything through the iTunes store so it won't accept my Apple ID. I don't know if his computer is under warranty. He does not remember if he has Applecare. I tried reinstalling Leopard -- the computer originally came with Leopard -- but the computer screen goes grey and a message comes up saying I need to restart. He wants to give this computer to me since it's useless to him. What do I do to get a system on it again?

You will need to reformat the hard drive to go back to Snow Leopard or Leopard.
Does he have a Snow Leopard Disk? He should, as there is no way to go from Leopard to Mountain Lion without it. If you can find the Snow Leopard Disk, I'd at least start with that.
You will need to use Disk Utility in the installer to format the hard drive and get rid of the recovery partition.
Boot from the installer disk by holding down the C key on restart. When it boots, Open Disk Utility (Utilities menu, at least in Snow Leopard).
Select the Hard drive and then click the Partition tab.
Select 1 Partition from the partition menu.
Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format.
Name the drive (Macintosh HD is the standard).
Click Apply to partition the drive.
When it is done, quit Disk Utility and install the OS.

SMART is a technology that monitors the drive for signs of impending failure. You can verify that SMART is indicating a problem in Disk Utility. Select the hard drive and look at the bottom of the window. It should look like this:
If the SMART status is not "Verified" then you should back up your drive and start shopping for a new one.

  • My new mac has two drives. Will setup assistant transfer files correctly?

My new iMac has a hard disc drive and a solid state drive. Does setup assistant transfer files from the old Mac to the new one by placing the files on one drive or on both? With setup assistant can I designate the SSD as the destination for transferring applications and the HDD as the destination for documents, music, photos, movies, etc.?
After completing the transfer with setup assistant will I have to move applications from the new iMac's HDD to its SSD?
Will the setup assistant have any effect on Lion in the new iMac?

That's helpful. Is there any impact to quality? It's not practical for me to USB or Ethernet it, since I don't have adapters and storage, etc. It is, however, convenient for me to let the laptop sit for a day (the estimated time) and just take in data at it's own pace on Bluetooth.
Is there going to be any loss of quality using this? Choppy songs, etc.
