New Files from Subclips problem

I captured the first 15 minutes of a tape and made 7 subclips for various scenes and sections.
Now I want to create new media files from those subclips.
I have selected the subclips and opened Media Manager. The subclips do not use all of the original file and I can see that the 'Modified' size is smaller than the 'Original' size.
I have tried numerous settings (I followed the manual for the first few attempts), but have yet to yield multiple new media files. I have had it dupicate the selected clips into a new project, but that just gives me the same subclips referencing a new slightly smaller media file named for the first clip of the group.
What do I need to do to create new media files for each subclip?
I am using FCP7. It has been a while, but I remember doing this without a problem in FCP6. Is there a bug in FCP7? Am I forgetting a special setting?

Looks like I found the issue. All of the clips had continuous time code, so FCP grouped them into a single clip. After setting In & Out points to give a little space between each subclip it worked.
If Apple considers the grouping of the clips to be helpful, they are way off the mark as far as I am concerned.

This is configured in Finder preferences under the General icon. You can make some changes to that behavior.

Internet via Ethernet - new password from ISP, problem to connect now

switched to Mac 1 year ago and found alot of great information in this forum. Thanks first !
But I´m also facing a problem:
(white iMac C2D OSx 10.4.11)
I used to connect to the Internet via Ethernet Cable and my DSL-modem (PPPoE). iMac also connected to Internet automatically. Great so far.
But then I got a new password from my ISP.
I changed it in the System preferences (also checked in Keychain, correct one is in there) and now my problem:
- when I go <...>-icon, click "open internet-connection", and then click manually "connect", my Mac connects to Internet
- when I go to <...>-Icon, then directly click "connect" -> no connection possible -> password not accepted ?!?
- when I activate "autmatically connect to Internet when needed" in the PPPoE options -> also not possible -> password not accepted ?!!
Is the old password stored somewhere on my Mac? I also tried to delete my ethernet connection and set up a new one, but I´m always facing the same problem? What´s wrong here ?

Just followed your instructions and created a new 802.1x connection, entering my data etc. When I click "connect" status says "connecting" and that´s it, nothing happens.
What I don´t understand is, why do I have to create some sort of new and different connection. I mean, everything was working fine with "Ethernet (integrated)" until I changed that damned password. Isn´t there a possibilty that the old one was saved in a chache (or system file etc.)?
Too bad, it´s really the first problem I face in my one year plus Mac experience!

Creating a new file from one page of a multi-page document

Every quarter I produce report cards and save them with Adobe Reader. The document itself is some 600 pages long, with each page being one student report card. At times during the quarter I am asked to email a report card from that file to a parent. Is there anyway for me to take one of those 600 pages and save it as a new file that I can attach to an email? ...obviously I don't want to send the other 599!

Reader cannot generally save a document, and no version can extract a single page from a document and save it. Adobe Acrobat can. Are you using Acrobat to create the 600 page PDF?

Adobe X Standard - New Bookmarks from Structure Problem

Adobe X Standard. I merged 24 separate files into a single PDF and created a bookmark for the start of each (former) PDF. I would like to generate a sub-bookmark for the start of separate words in the pdfs. I created TAGS for the entire document but when I click on "New Bookmarks from Structure" and select "H2" it will only generate bookmarks for what was formerly the first PDF. How can I generate sub-bookmarks for the remainder of the pdf?

Make the second PDF a tagged PDF. Then combine file 1 and 2 or save as file 1 to a new PDF (file 3) into which you insert the tagged file 2 after the last page of this new PDF.
"New Bookmarks from Strucuture" cannot add the structure; if the structure is not present or if the selected tag is not present you get no bookmarks.
Note that to manually add tags or to use Acrobat's "make accessible" heuristics you'll need Acrobat X Pro.

Extracting files from Portfolio - problem with outlook email created portfolios

Currently I have developed a plugin that can extract files from portfolios using:-
PDNameTree tree = PDDocGetNameTree(pdDoc, ASAtomFromString("EmbeddedFiles"));
and
PDFileAttachmentFromCosObj
But i've noticed with Outlook email created portfolios the above is PDNameTree invalid. any suggestions? is it under another atom string or something?

ok, found something out here... if I close the doc using AVDocClose then re-open in the code using PDDocOpen then the PDNameTree tree = PDDocGetNameTree(pdDoc, ASAtomFromString("EmbeddedFiles")); works!!!
but now I have a problem getting the original pdf open filename.
usually can get it with below code but it's returning the Folder path + garbage instead. (this only happens with portfolios created by outlook that I have tested)
There must be a better way of doing this, any ideas? thanks, lee.

Creating Acrobat 3D files from Microstation - problems

I am using Microstation as my CAD platform. There are a number of ways I can create 3D files from within Microstation, but only one method seems to allow the transfer of the levels used in Microstation. I do this by opening Acrobat 3D, then importing the microstation 3D file. Doing this brings across all the Microstation level info into the model tree. That is perfect, BUT, the model is not rendering properly/fully in Acrobat.
The Microstation file is about 3MB in size and the created pdf file is 7MB in size.
Another method I've used is to export from with Microstation to a "u3d" file format, then import that file into Acrobat 3D. This method and a few others I have tried will import the 3D model, fully rendered without problem, but none of the levels are imported from Microstation. These files are about 1.5MB or less.
The problem is that it is important for my clients to be able to use the model tree to toggle various levels on and off. It is not practical for me to use the 3D Toolkit to group and rename elements to match the Microstation levels.
Can anyone help me here? I'm thinking there must just be a setting I need to toggle on and off somewhere to fix the problem.

PS CS5 and 3D (new volume from layers) problem

OK I dont know if my issue is hardware related or user error so any help is appreciated.
Im trying to use the "New Volume from Layers" function (under 3D) with 2 text layers selected and the function is greyed out. How can I fix this? I do have open GL enabled.

Over time, and with some different "incidents," the Preferences file can become corrupt. In PS, I have only had that happen once over decades, and it was when a program decided to update, while I was doing a Save of a very large PS image. In that case, the Ctrl+Alt+Del, while launching PS brought up the "Do you want to reset your Preferences to the default?" message, at which time I chose yes, and all was good, except for the work that I was doing the Save for, but I had a Save_As_a_Copy, so only lost about an hour's work. I figure that one "trashed Prefs" file since version 2.5, with almost daily use is not bad.
PrPro has the same "three-finger-salute," or you can go to your Preferences file and either Rename, or Delete that - just like PS. Just remember to hold down those keys during the entire launch cycle. I do not believe that PrPro has that dialog screen, asking if that is what you wish to do, but I believe that it just clears the Prefs, and resets to the default. Never had to trash my Prefs in PrPro, but several users have, and it has fixed some odd issues.

Create a new File from java code

I'd like to create a new File on IFS, using Java code. Moreover, this file will be an image file, and I'd like to store meta data with this file... and then execute a search on this meta data.
I know it must not be very difficult to do, but I can't find any code sample.
Does anyone could give me some usefull link or advice ?

First of all, you need to create your custom class. You can do it using iFS Manager, extending the class DOCUMENT. Let's call this class IMAGE with the attributes "length", "width", "colorDepth". Take a look at the code that creates one instance:
You need one instance of LibrarySession (that appears in the code named "ifsSession").
You need also the InputStream of the image you want to store (that appears in the code named "contentStream").

when I update a project using CVS,
in 9i the tool used to prompt me like
'do you want to open new files in active project?'
in 10i it doesn't , so when I create and deploy wars the new files sometimes are missing.
do you know any workaround?

Suddenly I am unable to create a new file from my clipboard

For "years" after modifying graphics in Appleworks, I lasso it & copy to my clipboard. Then I open PS (CS5) and select "new", then paste from the clipboard to continue my editing. Suddenly when I paste a clipboard item, all I get is PLAIN WHITE in the proper size. I'm running on OSX 10.6.6, with my PS 12.0.2.
Why has this happened. I went to PS Help and couldn't find anything to help me.
(My work around: Open Graphic Converter, and save as a JPEG file. Then I open THIS file with PS.)

No. To respond to Jeff_Coatsworth--yes, I have version control going on with my FM book under version control in Documentum, but the RH11 project I am creating is new. I thought of this and tried to create the RH11 project on my hard drive in the My RoboHelp Projects > Adobe RoboHelp 11 folder. RH11 is not creating the .xpj file.

Photoshop plugin/script to have it read and create a new file from an excel file?

I do prepress and cover design for our book manufacturing company. I have made a tool that I input book specs into and it tells me the exact size of the photoshop document I need to create for an accurate book cover layout. It calculates total width, height, spine placement and spine width, bleeds, and even where to place the adobe guides in the document.
I've always book toggling back and forth on my mac to get the measurements etc while I am designing a cover. What I want to know is if there is a way this can all be automated.
I know photoshop supports scripting and plugins but I have not found anything remotely along the lines of what I am looking for. If I could get this process automated somehow my workflow and productivity would shoot through the roof!
In short I am looking for a script/plugin for Adobe photoshop CS3 that can read from an excel sheet and create a new document based on the specifications in that excel file.
Does anyone know if this is already out there? Or if it can be done? I would certainly invest in this.

It's something that is very easy to do using applescript (scripting excel through excel applescript dictionary, i have used it for a projet, found it usefull for the scenario i was working with, but it was incredibly slow.. same thing in Realbasic when driving application through automation.
Depending on the number of record that need to be processed (if you dont have to fetch data in different tabs) it's often better to have a "pre-process" to save the excel file as a CSV and using any other solution to process the text file. Can make a HUGE difference in processing time...
You will surely be able to find a professional to help you with this task if you willing to pay for custom developpement.
