New Function in Oracle BI

Hi :)
I made a new function in PL/SQL transfering BLOB to CLOB.
i made this function, because I know how to translate CLOB in Oracle BI.
with this function for example:
EVALUATE('DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR(%1,40,1)',PACKET_CONTENTS)
but in my case, this Packet_content is BLOB, so i want to translate it to CLOB and than use the substr function to translate it (or part of it).
so I tried doing that:
EVALUATE('DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR(%1,40,1)',EVALUATE('BLOB_2_CLOB(%1)','111'))
the parameter "111" is a param i give to my function (just for test). and my function should return the results from the PACKET_CONTENTS in CLOB type.
the answer error i get is the following one:
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 14027] The navigator cannot handle the following request containing constants only: Evaluate( DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR(%1,40,1),Evaluate( BLOB_2_CLOB(%1),'111') ) as c1. (HY000)
SQL Issued: SELECT EVALUATE('DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR(%1,40,1)',EVALUATE('BLOB_2_CLOB(%1)','111')) saw_0 FROM RWD ORDER BY saw_0
Any ideas? or any other information you want to know?
thanks :)
P.S: im really new in the Oracle BI things, so I might be do silly things I cant do... so please fix me if you can :)
thanks !

Are you trying to return a text string from the BLOB/CLOB? Can you not do this in a database view over the top of your existing table, removing any potential ODBC/OCI issues?
ie.
CREATE VIEW test_view AS
SELECT dbms_lob.substr( blob_column,4000,1) text_column
FROM <table>;

  • T-SQL functions in ORACLE

Use T-SQL functions in ORACLE too, so you can write one script version that works in SYBASE, SQLSERVER and ORACLE when need to use the following functions:
ceiling, charindex, dateadd, datediff, datename, datepart, day, db_id, db_name, getdate, host_id, host_name, left, len, month, replicate, right, space, str, str_replace, stuff, substring, suser_id, suser_name, user_id, user_name and year.
The file [comp_tsql_ORA_schema.txt|http://forums.databasejournal.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=564&d=1258547015] creates the tablespace and schema to put the objects, and the file [comp_tsql_ORA.txt|http://forums.databasejournal.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=569&d=1259256898] creates the functions into the new schema. They will be avaliable for any schema of the oracle instance.
    Hope this help!
    Any suggestion please contact.

    Ever tried XLISP? :-)
It's different. Back then it was simply the language itself. And it was not really a religious kind of battle, but more a mine-is-bigger-and-better-than-yours one.
With Java, it is all about The Acrhitecture and the blessed language of Java. ;-)
I wouldn't so much blame J2EE believers for that. I think there is a fundamental complexity to web type paradigms that hasn't been described in a precise and encompassing enough manner to enable correct project planning. The basic problem is that the database is treated as a persistent storage layer only. A bit bucket. And that is exactly what a database is not.
But as it is used that, loads of database features now need to be duplicated in the application layer. Which is done. Very poorly.
Heck, I've even been told that J2EE's 3-tier architecture is not client server. Such ignorance is really unbelievable. Or is it pure stupidity?Until you just made me look it up, I would have thought that too, I'm sure I saw client/server defined as two-tier in the last century. But I have much more stupid misdefinitions to deal with on a daily basis, simply from the multiplicity of paradigms. I tend to retreat into my shell. Hehehe. Know that feeling... These days I rather run away, or set shields to full power, than try to get in yet another frustrating, fruitless and futile discussion with a Java head about the wonders of the J2EE architecture. Or trying to explain that this "new" architecture is predated with what we used in the 80's on mainframe systems with transaction monitors, block devices (the 80's web browsers) and databases - which software layer for software layer was almost identical to "+The Great Architecture+" of today. (and we did it without buzzwords too) ;-)
Client-server is a software architecture and in essence describes 3 basic software components. The User Interface (UI), the Application (APP) and the Database (DB). And there are various ways to put these components together in a client-server architecture. The mistake that the Java fanbois make is thinking that client-server means having the client as the UI and APP as a single component (so-called fat client) and then the DB component as the server.
There are numerous versions of these - including the APP component being a server component (as we now these days more commonly used in over the web).
My beef with the J2EE "+religion+" always has been that client-server is client-server. The fundamentals stay the same.

  • Import Functionality in Oracle ADF BC with Jdeveloper 11.1.1.2

    Hi all,
I am using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.2 and I am trying to import functionality in my application.
I am following the steps of: http://andrejusb.blogspot.com/2008/07/import-functionality-in-oracle-adf-bc.html
I have 2 data model and I would like to import the functionality of one data model, in the other.
    My problem is when I tried: myModel2-->right click-->project properties-->deployment-->edit
I don't see nothing to filter myModel2, I see only Library Dependencies, Connections, JAR Options ADF Validation.
    If I tried : myModel2-->right click-->project properties-->deployment-->new-->filters
I see only the folders: Merged Contents of this file Group's contributor, .data, 00000000
    But I can't see the folders I have (mypackage.test.model.entities).
Where I can found them? Is there a workaround?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Andrea

Ok, but I taught that after importing myModel2 in myModel1, Jdeveloper realise a merge and it visualizes a unique package, even if it is splitted on two or more projects/models.
So that, it seems to me this procedure is useful for importing jar file, but not for splitting a very big project in a lot of smaller projects, doesn't it?
    Thanks for your opinion

  • Benefits of creating form functions in oracle apps

    hi all
i want to register a new form in oracle apps,
why i need to create form function to every form i register?
    thanks

Same form can be use in multiple functions but on form should have one form function to System Administrator administers function security by creating
responsibilities that include or exclude particular functions.
The function can be a form, process, servlet, SSWA plsql function or more. So customized form needs a function to define in security by responsibility.

  • Are there different php functions for Oracle 8 and 9?

    Hi!
Are there different php functions for Oracle 8 and 9?
    Thanks for your answer!

You can use the oci8* functions for Oracle 8, 9 and 10.
It is the most recent PHP interface to Oracle, and uses Oracle's most recent
    API.
The name oci8 comes from the version number of Oracle - version 8 - when
Oracle introduced a new C API. It succeeded the original OCI and got the
common name OCI8. The original OCI now has the common name of OCI7.

  • Customized function in Oracle Payable

    Dear all,
My user want to have a new function to produce a text file (getting data from Payable module) and send it to Citibank to print cheques. I have already created a new script (SQL*PLUS) executable to generate a txt file. And it works fine.
But the problem is: how can I implement this new function/script into Oracle Application? Since this function requires user to enter 2 parameters, do I also need to create a new form for this function?
Any idea or experience on this topic will be very much appreciated. Thank you for your kind attention.

Go to System Administration responsibility- ConcurrentPrograms-Executable.
    1. Define the executable of type SQL*Plus
    2. Go to Define ConcurrentPrograms Form
    3. Define the new program and attach the executable name to the newly defined program
    4. Define parameters in the same form in the next block.
    5. Ofcourse, make sure that the Oracle SQL*Plus file is in the respective application TOP directory. You can check this with your Oracle Apps Sys. Admin.
    6. Make sure you attach this program to the respective report group using Sys Admin responsibility.
Let me know if you need further help on this.
    That should do it.

Search for EVALUATE function you can call function and pass parameters
    Example:
    EVALUATE Function
This function is intended for scalar and analytic
    calculations.
    Syntax: EVALUATE('DB_Function(%1)', {
    Comma separated Expression})
    Example: SELECT
    e.lastname,sales.revenue,EVALUATE('dense_rank()

    )',sales.revenue) FROM sales s, employee e;

  • Trigonometric functions in Oracle

    Hi,
I have never used trigonometric functions in Oracle before. I am working on creating a google map of customers within a certain radius of a location. My database table contains longitude and latitude as well as customer information. At this point, using spatial is not an option though it may be in the future. My table name is account and I try to run the following query. I hardcoded in New York (40,-74) as a center and using 25 miles as the radius. I took the query from an example on google maps.
    SELECT address, business_name, latitude, longitude, ( 3959 * acos( cos( radians(40) ) * cos( radians( latitude ) ) * cos( radians( longitude ) - radians(40) ) + sin( radians(-74) ) * sin( radians( latitude ) ) )) AS distance FROM account HAVING distance < 25
    ORDER BY distance
I get an error message that radians is an invalid identifier. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong here?
    Thanks

Hi i am newbie to apps

    thnks
    ramya

    Ramya
I will give you a brief explanation, but you will find more details in the document Oracle Applcations System Administrators Guide, whcih can be found on MetaLink.
Functions are used to associate a form or procedure with a menu item. The seeded forms and self service functions all have functions pre-defined. If you create new forms or self service procedures, you will want to create a new function to associate your versions to.
Once you have defined a function, you need to associate the function to a menu. If the function can be accessed directly from the menu, you need to have a menu prompt which the user can use.
Then you associate your menu (with its functions) to responsibility. You can control which menu items you want the user to access by adding 'menu or function exclusions' to the responsibility. In this way, you can have one menu, but with different variations used in different responsibilities.
There are manyu variations on this theme, but I hope this basic explanation points you int he right direction.

  • ODSI service using function from oracle database

    Hi ,
I need to create a ODSI service using function from oracle database.
I am not sure how to create a Physical Layer and Logical Layer using the function fron db.
Kindly provide a sample . I need It ASAP. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Tara

    Here's what you do.
Create New Physical Data Service -> Relational -> MyDataSource -> Table -> SomeTable ... finish the wizard.
So now you have a Physical Data Service that represents a database table.
Create New Physcial Data Service -> Relational -> MyDataSource (the same one as above) -> Database Function -> Enter UPPER for the Function name, enter MyUpper fro the XQuery Function. Finish the Wizard (use something like MyUpperDs for the ds name).
Open MyUpperDs. Right-click -> Edit Signature on MyUpper. Change the ReturnType to string, change the Occurrence to Zero or One.
Add a parameter, change the Type to string, change the Occurrence to Zero or One.
    Save.
Now, open the first ds you made SomeTable.ds (whatever). Run it in the test view.
Go to the Overview tab. Create New Operation. Give it the name SOMETABLE_UPPER. Save it.
Go to the Query Map tab, open SOMETABLE_UPPER. Drag and drop SOMETABLE (the system-generated function into the mapper. It will show a dotted line from SOMETABLE to the Return. Now drag-and-drop the SOMETABLE to the top-level element of the return type, it will show solid lines from each element in SOMETABLE to each element in the return type.
Now, drag-and-drop MyUpperDs.MyUpper into the Query Mapper. Edit the source, find where it added the line "for $x in myd:MyUpper()" and delete that line.
Change a line that simply returns a value to use your function, for example, change
    <FIRST_NAME>{fn:data($CUSTOMER/FIRST_NAME)}</FIRST_NAME>
    to
    <FIRST_NAME>{myd:MyUpper(fn:data($CUSTOMER/FIRST_NAME))}</FIRST_NAME>
Click on the Plan tab and Show Query Plan. You will see that in the query plan, it is using the database UPPER function where you specified MyUpper.
Go to the Test View and run it.
I used the RTLCUSTOMER table in cgDataSource
