New itunes library from itunes music

can someone tell me how to create a new itunes library file from the actual itunes music folder - both library files are corrupt (that is to say - blank, no songs - don't ask) - the itunes music folder has all the music - if i open it and click on songs they play in itunes, but when i open itunes there are no songs listed. there has got to be a way to re-create the library file - it's just a database that points to the actual music files, and i have the music. i just don't have the pointers.
thanks - robert

Move the existing iTunes(not iTunes Music) folder when iTunes isn't running, open iTunes, and drag the iTunes Music folder as well as anywhere else on the hard disk where the music may be stored into the open iTunes window.

  • How to create new genius playlists from existing music in library?

I tried the genius button for creating lists from existing music in my library. The problem is that it continues to show the first list created no matter what song I highlight then hit the genius button. Genius works fine for creating lists I can purchase online, but not new ones from my own music.

  • The new Itunes Music Store

I was running the previous iTunes 10.7 or whatever the last version was.  But today I downloaded the latest version of the iTunes software 11.0.1.  And I'm not too happy with the changes to the iTunes store.
The main reason: it's searching capability.
    For example:
Let's say in the iTunes store I want to search for podcasts with the keyword "lighthouses."  I type "lighthouses" into the search button in the iTunes store, and it will bring up Albums, Videos, Podcasts, etc regarding lighthouses.  Traditionally, after I search for something such as Lighthouses in iTunes store and I click on the Podcasts related to lighthouses, I'm used to seeing my search results in a List View.  And then I'm used to being able to sort the list of podcasts by date, so I can see the most recent podcasts about lighthouses first.
In this brand new iTunes store, I did tried to do the same today.  Except when I clicked on the Podcasts about lighthouses, it doesn't give me a list view.  It gives me an Icon or Album view (if that makes any sense) and I can't view the podcasts by List and then sort it by most recent first.  This makes it very hard to search the podcasts.
Does anyone know if I can customize my views in the iTunes store so I can go a List View when I want to?
Or should I just somehow try to review to the old iTunes 10.7?
    Thanks!
Attached is an example of what I'm talking about.  I searched for podcasts relating to Tavis Smiley in iTunes store, and the List View I'm accustomed to is gone.  It's now like an Album or Icon view, and let's say you've got more than 50 podcasts that were returned in your search, this new view makes it difficulty to search and sort through those podcasts.

well, i never got a reply directly to my question, but i was directed by email to post my problem within itunes... go to the podcast page of my podcast and then select "report a concern"... i always thought this was to report offensive podcasts, but if you click on that button you'll see a pull down list with a bunch of problems... i selected "difficulty downloading" and then explained the problem completely... as i said, i never heard back from anyone, but about 4 days later my podcast episode showed up... and this past wednesday we uploaded the latest episode and it showed up in the iTMS almost immediately... go figure?!
if anyone's interested, the podcast name is Schnauzer Logic and its comedy and talk and music and pop culture (i used to be the host of a morning show)... good for a giggle once a week for a couple of hours.
    cheers!

  • How can I drag multiple photos into a new iPhoto library from search box?

I lost but found my list of photos that were in my iPhoto library. I am unable to drag more than one photo at a time from the search box into the new iPhoto library box. Am I doing something wrong or do I have to drag one at a time? (That would take hours.) Please help if you can!
    Thanks,
    Laure

    Roam,
Thanks again. I know how to highlight and drag multiple photos or a list of files, but the only place I found my list was by going to Finder>File>Find then a dialogue box comes up. In the dialogue box I put in iPhoto and checked that then put in "kind" "is" "image" and "size" "is greater than" "30" KB. When I click search, the entire list from my library comes up but that is when I am unable to drag more than one file at a time. The box that comes up when I search isn't (at least I don't think it is) a "folder" as such. Any suggesttions?

  • How do I create a new Aperture library from pictures I moved from IMAC?

I moved my Photos to External Hard drive from MAC . Can I create new aperture library in EHD?

As I wrote as long as both programs are latest versions they share the same library structure and can open each others libraries.
Open Aperture and then select File->Switch to Library. If the iPhoto library shows up in the list select it. If it does not select Other/New… If the iphoto library shows up in this list select it if not select Other Library and find, select and open the iPhoto library.
At this point there are a few things you can do depending on your situation. You can just leave the library as is if you do most of your work in iPhoto. Or you can turn the this library into an Aperture library.
To make it an Aperture library open Aperture and create a new empty library as you did before. Now go to File->Import->Library and select the iPhoto library. The iPhoto library will be imported and converted to an Aperture library.
While all of thsi is safe you the iPhoto library it is alwasy a good idea to have a bakup of the library before starting just in case.

  • HT1449 After moving music and movies from my MacBook Air to an external hard drive, do I create a new iTunes music and media folder on my computer then add more music and movies, then will I be able to move the computer music/media to the hard drive musci

I need to move the music and movies from my MacBook Air (original) to an external hard drive, after I do this, do I create a new music folder and media folder on my computer to load music/movies in via the dedicatd external drive and then would I be able to move the newly imported to the external drive which would be my main site of storage?

No, do it all in one go and henceforth only use the library located on the external drive.
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

  • How do I populate a new iPhoto library from my default library?

How do I efficiently move large numbers of photos between 2 iPhoto libraries?  I want one for personal use and one for business.  Right now everything is in one iPhoto library.  I was able to create a second, business related library, but couldn't figure out how to move large numbers of photos from the default library into the new (presently empty) library.  I tried import and export but those functions weren't available.

    Easy way:
Use  iPhoto Library Manager to move photos, files, all versions and metadata between libraries. The Free version will move approx 20 at a time. Purchase ($20) will remove any restrictions.
    Alternative:
Export the Photos from one Library (File -> Export) to folders in the Finder, then import them to the other library. You won't get versions or Faces metadata this way.
Or, do you need a second library? You can easily distinguish Work and Personal files in a Library with a simple keyword.

  • Removing Shared Library from another music source

My cousin got into my i-tunes and some how imported her Lime Wire account into my i-tunes and it pops up as shared. I want it gone....COMPLETELY!!! I don't know how to do this. Please help!

You could try turning off the library sharing option. To do this in iTunes go to the top line Edit>Preferences>Sharing Tab then uncheck any checked boxes.

  • How to create a new iMovie library from existing events?

I have had the misfortune of loosing my Mac with all of the data on it BUT fortunately I have kept a copy of all my iMovie events backed up so I've managed to save them.
Now I have a new iMac and 500Gb+ in the "iMovie Events" folder. I've copied this folder into my Movies folder (in "home" dir) BUT since I didn't also back up the .imovielibrary file I need to create a new library for all these events. The problem I'm facing at the moment is that I'm not sure how to "import" these events in a way that will maintain all/most of the information. I've tried doing the File > Import Media and pointing it to the Movies folder BUT it looked like it was going to import all the files into a single Event, so I chickened out.
Any suggestions/recommendations? Am I doomed to importing the events one at a time?
    Thanks!

Looks like I may have found a solution.
As mentioned above I've copied the "iMovie Events" folder to the place iMovie expects it to be at. And now I've selected: File > Update Projects and Events
It has recognized that there were a bunch of events that it needed to "process" and has started reading them all.
It looks like all the events are back, I've not done extensive checking yet, but so far it looks very promising.

  • How to move iTunes Music Library from an external HD to another?

Yesterday I tried to move all my music from an external HD to a new bigger one.
Well, I encountered various problems, the most important one is that the “iTunes Music Library” file messed up.
I transferred all files and both “iTunes Music Library.xml” and the “iTunes Library” file in the new HD. I have to say that I didn't know so much about those two files and I thought that it was enough to move them in the new location; I discovered that those files included the information about where the music is located (among other infos), so it still redirects to the older HD.
However, now I’m trying to recreate the previous situation on the older HD, and I’m trying to “rebuild” the iTunes Library (I have a back-up of the xml file, even if it is not the running one).
This operation is very important for me because about two years ago I used (for a long time )an earlier version of iTunes that had a bug: even if wrote all the tag infos on an a mp3, the “artist name” and “album name” tags didn’t remained. But I still can see all the informations through the iTunes browser (thanks to the iTunes Music Library DB). So, I cannot recreate it from zero. I absolutely need to export the existing “iTunes Music Library” to the new HD, or at least to use the existing “iTunes Music Library”, leaving it where it already is and moving only the “iTunes Music folder” (even if I don’t want to use two external HDs, the older one holding the existing “iTunes Music Library” e “iTunes Library” files and the newer one holding the “itunes Music” folder I moved!).
As far as you know how can I move safely “iTunes Music Library” e “iTunes Library” files on the new HD applying them to the new “iTunes Music” folder??
    I really need your help!
    This article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307074 didn’t help.
    Stefano

Sorry, I wasn't responding to you, just the original poster. I didn't look at the date on that posting and didn't realize that you'd added a post that wasn't quite the same problem. In future, you'll find you get better answers if you start your own thread. You're issue really is a bit more complicated.
If iTunes currently recognizes all the music on both internal and the external drives, it should work. You have to make sure that both drives (old and new) are mounted. Make sure you have both "Keep iTunes music organized" (you probably already do) and "Copy files to iTunes..." (you probably don't) checked.
If not all of the music is currently in your iTunes library, perform the procedure with the music that is a part of the library and add the other stuff afterwards.
    Best of luck.

  • New PC, New iTunes, how do I put Music/Video from my iPhone onto new PC?

    Hi,
My dad's old PC crashed (for the final time) and he went and ordered yet another PC (Dell) anyway, he's looking to know how to get all his music and video's off his iPhone and saved into the new iTunes?
I though i'd ask first before I go and have a play about with it. New PC's running Vista so i'll have to play around with that first.

    Thanks!
I replaced the new 'iTunes Music' folder with the older 'iTunes Music' folder from the external Hardrive and it copied all the previous tracks/Albums into the new iTunes... however there was no Applications folder down the left hand side in iTunes? Then I clicked> File> Transfer purchases from Dad's iPhone and it started to sync and a new Applications folder appeared down the left hand side in iTunes and Applications on Dad's iPhone are syncing to the new iTunes on the PC along with some music purchased on his iPhone as I type. I don't know why the purchased music was never backed up - unless he didn't back up that often? and there was no backed up App's in the iTunes folder on the External Hardrive?
No photos so far but i'll take a browse around and see if I can find anything else on the External Hardrive.

  • How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs

How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac? Thanks a lot. Carlo Molinari (Rome - Italy)

How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac?
The following are the basic steps to transfer your iTunes Media folder from your MacBook Pro to the Time Capsule (TC). Note: You will leave the iTunes Library, and its associated files, on the MacBook Pro as you will only be moving the media files.
Be sure to shutdown iTunes before starting.
Next, move the "iTunes Music" folder, located in ~/Music/iTunes/, to wherever you want on your TC's internal hard drive. Remember to leave the Album Artwork folder, as well as the three individual library files where they are on the MacBook Pro.
Wait a while. If you have a large library, this will take a bit of time.
Once the iTunes Media folder has been transferred, open iTunes. Note: It will still be looking at your local iTunes Library on the MBP. As such it will think that the iTunes Media folder is still on the MBP as well. However, we just relocated it to the TC. If you attempt to select any song, you will get an error that the song is "missing." Not to worry, we will correct this in the next step.
We need to tell iTunes the media has moved to the TC's internal HDD. To change where iTunes "looks" for the media, open iTunes and go to the Advanced > General tab and use the "Change..." button to tell it where your new "iTunes Music" library is located.
Once this is done iTunes will likely pop up a progress window telling you that it's re-analyzing your library. Let it complete this step.
As a final check to make sure everything when as planned, click on any library file from within iTunes and press cmd + i (or View > Get Info). At the bottom of the Summary tab in that window is a "Where:" section that tells you the actual file path to that piece of media; be sure that path begins with the name of your TC's drive, and not "Macintosh HD."

  • Transferring external iTune library from one computer to another

I am having great difficulty in changing my external iTunes library from my old MBP laptop to my new iMac 5k.
My entire iTunes library is stored on an external drive and can be accessed directly with my MBP. When I started up iTunes on my new iMac, it created a new empty library in the MUSIC folder. What I want to do is connect my new iMac to the external library directly. I can see it when I turn on HOME SHARING but only when iTunes is running on my MBP, which is useless since my MBP will now be seldom used. I have of course on the iMac, changed the library location in the advanced preferences to the external location, to no avail. I do not want to keep any media files on the iMac for capacity reasons.
To compound the problem, I cannot seem to sync my new iPhone 6+ to the original external library, only the new empty one!
Surely this ought to be a simple job, transferring an external iTunes library from one computer to another! Am I missing something obvious here?

Wow, what a quick response! Thanks, Limnos. I guess it was bleeding' obvious, and I should have thought of it before. Such a simple solution!
On a related matter, I also have just realised that the iTunes iOS backups are saved on the internal computer drive in a folder called MOBILESYNC rather than on an external drive, thus chewing up a lot of capacity on my SSD. Others reading this response may be interested to know that it is easy to have iTunes save the iOS backups to any external drive using a symbolic link in this directory. Go to
    http://support.digidna.net/hc/en-us/articles/203504123-Storing-your-iPhone-Backu ps-on-an-Alternate-Location
    for the details.
However, note that iBooks will NOT let you use this work-around, pathetic app that it is.

  • Can't add folders from My Music in Windows to iTunes

I am having issues importing my music into itunes. I recently reloaded itunes onto my computer - and rebuilt my library from "My music" folder in windows. Problem is, when itunes added my music to my library, it only added about half of my subfolders from my music folder in windows. I have tried resetting privacy settings, transferring file by file, and folder by folder. The files look exactly the same (the ones in my library in itunes and the ones that aren't) and I never got an error message - such as I'm running out of space, etc. Anyone know a solution?? Thanks so much.

I am having a similar problem to this.
I recently purchased a Nano 3g for our daughter. She had previously been using an all in one digital camera/camcorder with .mp3/.wma capability for listening to music and had been using Windows Media Player to sync the music.
When I helped her set up iTunes it was obvious she needed some help cleaning up the id3 tags for organization and to get the proper album art. So I copied all of her music (317 .mp3 and .wma files ripped from CD using Windows Media Player) from her computer to a USB hard drive and then copied them to my computer. I set up a second iTunes library and added the files to the new library from the file menu (File/Add Folder To Library) in iTunes, converting the .wma files to .mp3 in the process. I have iTunes set up to copy music to the iTunes Music folder and keep it organized.  After eliminating the duplicates and poorly ripped files I ended up with 283 .mp3's, then used a combination of iTunes, Picard, beaTunes and the Internet to properly tag and get artwork for them. So tonight I finished cleaning them up and as a test run I copied the 283 cleaned-up and properly tagged .mp3's to the usb drive, deleted everything from my second iTunes Music folder, deleted the iTunes library .itl and .xml files and then copied the files back to my computer and used the Add Folder To Library function to copy the files to the iTunes Music folder again. First I tried to drag and drop the files from the USB drive into iTunes but that only transferred 11 files. Then I tried to use the Add Folder To Library function directly from the USB drive I only got about half the files to transfer. So I ended up using Windows Explorer to copy all the files from the USB drive the iTunes music folder and then use the Add Folder To Library function from there. After a couple of tries I have 18 mp3's that will not show up in the iTunes library or play in iTunes. I also tried to add them individually by using the Add File To Library menu selection, dragging and dropping, and Open with command in Windows Explorer with no luck. These files play just fine and display the proper id3 info (including artwork) in Windows Media Player and Winamp. The original (uncleaned) files are still on the USB drive and will play in iTunes so I guess I will have to reimport them and clean them up again to see if I can get them to transfer. Or possibly I will just clean them up on her computer.
Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated. I will be sending in my laptop for warranty work sometime this month and as a precaution I will be wiping the hard drives before sending it in (they will most likely reformat before sending it back anyways) and I would prefer not to have this happen when I try to reload the 9000+ mp3's currently on it.
    I am using an Alienware area 51m 7700 – 3.4ghz P4, 1gb RAM, 2x 60gb HDD's in a RAID0 configuration , Windows XP Pro SP2, iTunes 7.4.3.1, and WD Passport 120gb USB drive, if that makes a difference. All drivers/software current/stable.
