  • Microsoft DPM 2010 no longer works for WSS 3.0 SP3 farm since moving farm to new SQL cluster

    Hi,
I've had Microsoft DPM (first 2007, then 2010) backing up my WSS 3.0 SP3 farm since 2009.  This weekend, I had to migrate the WSS farm to a new SQL 2008 SP1 cluster.  I am using a SQL alias after the move.  I mean, I set the alias up several
weeks before the move, but the alias name and server name were the same - SQL01.  Now the alias name is SQL01 and the server name is SQL02.  I know, that's exactly the way you shouldn't do it, but this farm is just months away from being decommissioned,
so I don't want to rock the boat.
So, here's the problem.  Right after the SQL migration, I get a warning in DPM at the start of a recovery point creation session that states that all of the content databases have been deleted from the farm and are no longer protected.  I thought
the best thing to do would be to delete and recreate the protection group.  Big mistake.  I deleted the protection group, that was just protecting the farm, and kept the replica data (14 weeks worth).  When I try to create a new protection group,
I can expand the SharePoint farm underneath the assigned WFE, but I get the dreaded pop-up: "DPM cannot protect this SharePoint farm as it cannot detect the configuration of the dependent SQL databases. (ID: 32008)"  I've verified that the three
suggested items in the error message are indeed functioning correctly, but I cannot get past this error.  The WFE appears to be configured correctly, as I have run the enablesharepointprotection command using an account that is both a farm admin and a
local admin on the WFE.  When I run resolveallsqlaliases, it does show all of my content databases with the appropriate alias name and logical path.  On the SQL server, both the SQL Server VSS writer and Volume Shadow Copy services are up and running,
as well as the DPMRA service, which I manually started when trying to create the protection group.  I have the SQL Server VSS Writer service running as the same farm admin account that I configured on the WFE.
So, I'm not sure where to go next.  It appears that the issue doesn't lie with the WFE since it can enumerate all of the content databases correctly.  Is there something I'm missing on the SQL server?  Oh, and I have the VSS and DPMRA services
set up the same on both nodes.  I've been working on this since yesterday and I'm at my wits end!
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Mike

How much content is in the farm and when are you planning to decommission it?

  • Can't create a new SQL Azure Standard Tier db

I'm having an issue creating a new sql azure standard tier db. Here's the basic steps I've done to migrate a web tier db.
Register for the sql preview programme
    https://account.windowsazure.com/PreviewFeatures
Perform a db export to blob storage
use the + (new) button to create a new SQL db
    select the import option
    browser to your saved export
hopefully see the new tiers as options in dialog.
The new tiers require a separate server to web. Can create this from the import dialog
I have 2 independent azure accounts, the above process worked for my test account but for the live account where I was also experimenting after success on the test account I hit an issue. I request to create a new server whilst importing. This step seems
to work but then the actual import fails with this msg
"Error encountered during the service operation.
     Could not import package.
Error SQL72014: .Net SqlClient Data Provider: Msg 40823, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Invalid value provided for parameter EDITION. Please provide a value that is valid on server version 1.0.
Error SQL72045: Script execution error. The executed script:
     CREATE DATABASE [$(DatabaseName)] COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
     (EDITION = 'Standard', MAXSIZE = 1 GB)"
Tried a couple of times but no joy. Using the portal I can browse to the new sql server and it looks okay other than the list of ENABLED
RESERVATION SIZES ONLY HAS P1, P2, P3 I'm requesting a standard (s1) db not premium (P1, P2, P3). On my test server I see in this list also S1,
S2. As you can see in the error message I'm requesting Edition = Standard. I get the feeling the newly created server is not accepting standard tier dbs?
Now the server is created if I try an import I see the server in the list of available servers but when I select a tier of Basic or Standard the new server is grayed out, not so if I select Premium or the older Web or Business? Interestingly my current live
sql server shows up as supporting the new premium?
    Thanks
    Wayne

  • Is it possible to open a new Worksheet without creating a new *.sql file

    Hello Community,
Declaimer: It may be a trivial question. I just willing to make SQL Developer my default day to day tool.
I is possible to open a new Worksheet without creating a new *.sql file. Like in an MS Word. If I just need some space to write something and than destroy the file without saying. I can quickly click < ctrl + N > and get the space.
In SQL Developer to get a new "space"/work sheet i
    -a- < ctrl + N >
    -b- choose "SQL File"
    -c- confirm default location
-d- choose the connection to be used (right top conner)
This process is way to long for getting a new sheet to put write an SQL.
Can you suggest a better way to get a workspace with current connection assigned in no time (like in MS Word)?
    Please ;)
    Yury

There is no need to create new .sql file.
I don't know why you need new SQL Worksheet when you can simply do the space by pressing Enter, but you can open a new one from Tools -> SQL Worksheet. There is also a toolbar button for this.

  • New "SQL Developer Team Announcements" sticky note

In the new SQL Developer Team Announcements sticky note posted a couple of days ago:
<li>Is "SQL Developer Team Announcements" the right title? It appears to be hard enough to get people to read these things anyway, and this suggests that it's either targetted at the SQL Developer Team, or contains information about them.
<li>The SQL Developer Exchange link for Enhancement Requests links to the sticky note, not the Exchange Feature Requests page.
<li>Suggest using "Forum Tips" or some other alternative instead of "Forum Etiquette": "etiquette" too obscure a term?
<li>"When asking a question, provide all the details that someone would need to answer it.": Can these be spelled out? e.g. SQL Developer version, DB version, Java version, OS etc.

Sue, thanks for the prompt attention.
3 sounds good: News, Posting Guidelines, and a FAQ for the rest? (sorry, I'd lump "collateral" in with "etiquette" as clarity goes).
    A FAQ with Qs like:
    <li>How do I report bugs?
    <li>Where do I request enhancements?
    <li>Where can I find extensions?
may be the best way to handle the "collateral" as it can retain the same (easily understood title) whilst being extendable to cover virtually anything.
As an example, I think Mark Drake has handled this well on the {forum:id=34} forum.

  • How to migrate SharePoint 2013 Content and Configuration DataBases to a new SQL Server and DataBases in it?

    Hi,
We need to migrate Our current 1 clustered SQL Server, Many Configurations DataBases and Many Content DataBases to a brand new clustered SQL server and brand new databases in it.
    How can I do this?

  • SharePoint 2010 DB moved to new SQL server

    Hi All,
Quick Question.. When we move SP 2010 DB to one SQL server to New One .. What are thing need to followed to make sure Sites are working fine
    V Jean

Hi.  I recently followed that guide (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc512723(v=office.14).aspx) and it went pretty well.  Before starting, I recommend
you ensure the new SQL server is prepared by ensuring:
    1. It has enough disk space to hold the database(s) and allow for growth
    2. Firewall ports are opened to allow connections from the SharePoint server
    3. The hardware meets the requirements
    4. You have RBS enabled if required
    5. You have backups!

  • Building New SQL Server To Migrate from Old one and need to figure out how I need to license it.

So my head is spinning on setting up a New SQL Server.
Current setup is Microsoft Server 2003 Standard and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard. Nothing was maintained with Software assurance.
    Environment:
Database is Limited to 2008 R2 Standard as Highest release I can use with it. So I know I need to do a Downgrade.
New Server can Be either Microsoft Server standard 2008 or 2012 x64.
The Domain Controller for right now is going to remain a Machine with Server 2003 Standard x86. It is Licensed with 30 Cals.
    The office Environment:
The Office has any where from 5-7 employees.
They have 3 Office locations and employees are in 1 of the three locations depending on the day.
Between all 3 Offices they have 27 computers.
Employees also can access multiple machines through out the day.
Reception, Checkout and Third employee will be at their own machine.
3 Employees will be accessing their main machine but also float to at the most 6 other machines located in the office these machines are logged in in the morning using their own user name Employees don't login or logout on them throughout the day.
If they are in The Main Office they access the SQL server machine directly.
If they are in one of the two satellite offices the Employees will access the SQL server through the front end running on Terminal Services running on the SQL server.
My New Server will be Either a 4 or 6 core Xeon Processor.
    So the Questions.
Lets say the scenario is I am buying Windows 2012 Server and Cals and Buying SQL 2012 Server and Cals and will be downgrading both to 2008.
How do I need to license Windows Server? How many Cals do I need and what way should they be setup?
How do I need to license SQL Server? By Server? By Core? How Many Cals do I need?
    Thank You.

    Hi,
In addition, basically a downgrade is possible in case the SQL Server editions are the same. Downgrade is only supported in case a downgrade of e.g. SQL2012 Enterprise to SQL2008R2 Enterprise is done.
I have attached a link to the SQL Server 2012 Licensing Reference Guide. Look at “Upgrades, Downgrades and Step-Ups” section of the document and check which version and editions are supported for the downgrade.

    Hope it helps.

  • New SQL Server Failover Cluster Installation - No disk is available to select in section "Cluster Disk Slection"

    Hello Everyone,
I am in a deep need for your help regarding the problem I am facing.
I am doing a New SQL Server Failover Cluster Installation in a virtual server that is part of a failover cluster. I am able to complete all the steps successfully but, when I reach the point where I am supposed to select the shared disk that will
be included in the SQL server resource cluster group, I don't find any disk in the list (as u can see in the figure below).
I have already created the a 2 nodes failover cluster and added 3 disks (1 as a witness in Quorum and 2 other available storage).
No roles were created, 2 nodes are available and 1 network is there in the cluster.
If u take a look at the message it say: "The search for mount points failed. Error: the system cannot find the path specified". What is this and how can I solve this issue??
Thanks in advance for your support and looking forward for your valuable feedbacks.
Mark as answer if it was an answer for you question.. Please don't hesitate to ask for any further help..

    Dear Ashwin,
I have granted the privileges mentioned in the link you provided as below:
Act as Part of the Operating Sywstem = SeTcbPrivileg
      Bypass Traverse Checking = SeChangeNotify
Lock Pages In Memory = SeLockMemory
Log on as a Batch Job = SeBatchLogonRight
Log on as a Service = SeServiceLogonRight
Replace a Process Level Token = SeAssignPrimaryTokenPrivilege
I was not able to solve the problem by giving these privileges to the domain account I am using to install SQL.

No its not possible to convert standalone installation to cluster. Moreover first you need to configure Windows cluster then backup all SQL server databases logins jobs packages and install fresh instance of SQL Server in cluster aware mode

  • Automatically add new SQL data sources on secondary server

Hi there.. I have found an issue that I cannot resolve.
We have two DPM servers set up to be secondary servers for each other.. it has worked well for months and I was very happy with the setup.
What I had not realized was if a new SQL database was created and was picked up by the local DPM server, the secondary server did not pick up the new data source.
Is there a way to get a secondary server to refresh the list of data sources it should be backing up without having to manually updating the Protection Group once a week.
    Many thanks
    Chris
    Chris

    Hi,
Have you attempted the following? From the secondary DPM Server modify the protection group in question.
From the select group members step expand the needed SQL server.
Select the SQL instance (ensure the check box is checked off next to the SQL instance) then right click.
Now click on Turn on auto protection (Figure 1) to enable.
Figure 1:Enabling SQL auto protection from Secondary DPM Server.

    Also the below may assist.

  • Reconfiguration with new SQL database

  • New session in new sql file

    Hello,
I wonder it is possible to create new session while opening new sql file. (like in pl/sql developer).
    Many thanks
    klenikk

    Hi klenikk,
I do not think starting a new connection with each sql file is possible.
The following may be useful to work around this issue:
1/Have different connection names with the same username password, which can then
be selected in the connection pull down menu.
2/The sqlplus connect keyword will create a new connection. connect scott/tiger@tnsnames_entry
    3/Ctrl shift n - creates a new worksheet with a cloned separate connection/new session.
    4/To execute a script try @/path/to/file.sql
(There is also tools->preferences->database->worksheet->Select default path to look for scripts (so you can go @file.sql))
You could check the enhancement requests section - and add your request there (or comment on an existing request if this request is already there).

  • 30EA1: New SQL History?

    Hi,
The SQL History from previous versions is not retained, but luckily not physically deleted either. It seems 3.0 has a new system? (If so, please remember to include it in the migration process before release!)
    Thanks,
    K.

In my case I can see what looks like migrated SQL History (based on dates and content) but none of the new SQL statements are being shown. I could live without the migrated statements if I could get new statements to show up.
