Anytime I save a change to one of my Excel files, the TMP file appears in the destination folder and remains.  The "main" Excel file

  • Excel 2013 hangs while trying to open a file from network share

    Hi,
I am having issue opening excel file from a network share. it happens randomly, the file opens and hangs abruptly. Nothing happens after that ( we can only move the cursor), if we click on the excel sheet we get a beep sound. after i kill the excel process
and open it again ,it works fine.
Where did the member use the Excel file? Local disk, SharePoint, File server, or network shared disk?
Network shared file and sometime locally
Does the issue occur in the special file or every file?
it happens randomly and the whole excel freezes. i have to kill the excel session.
Which Office version is the file created? Excel 2013 or early? If it is XLS format, please try to convert to XLSX to test.
Network file server has office 2010 and the user is trying to open it in excel 2013
Does the file have some macros?
Yes, they have macros in some files
Does the issue occur recently? If it is, have you installed some programs or update before you encountered it?
           it happened before too.
Do you get some error message when Excel crashed?
Yeah. Attaching the error message from event viewer. We get file corrupt errors and below too.

    Hi Suren424,
Since your first image showed that "To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel." Please go to this path (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Action Center\Problem Reports)
to check the detailed information, and you might upload the screenshot or info here.
Then, please try the following methods and check if they are helpful:
    1. File --> Options --> Advanced --> uncheck "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)"
    2. Turn off "Protected View"  --> (File –-> Options –-> Trust Center --> Protected View --> Uncheck all options
    3. I notice that >>Network file server has office 2010 and the user is trying to open it in excel 2013 <<, it also might be caused by the Microsoft Office File Validation for Office 2010, please try to change setting in server with

  • How should we be going about creating and saving and/ or exporting our ODC files using Excel 2013 for use in Project Server 2013 Online?

Hi I need your guidance on how I should go about setting up my Excel 2013 reports so that others in our Project Online 2013 environment can access and updates these reports of mine.
    My questions are as follows:
I presume I need to create and save my ODC files in a PWA > Data Connections folder.  I have English and French users in our environment.  Do I need save them twice?  Once in the French and again in the English Data Connections folder?
     Likewise for the Excel file?
How should I go about creating my ODC files within Excel?  By default, the ODC files are being created on my PC's > My Documents > My Data Sources folder.  I presume I need to get them saved or exported to the PWA > Data Connections
folder. So, How should I be going about creating and saving and/ or exporting the ODC files???
FYI...My oData Feeds that I wish to use and join in this particular Excel file are as follows:

Thank you Guilaume.  May I ask you to help clarify a bit more for me?  If I have to do it for both languages (the reports and ODC files), do I simply copy the same ODC files from e.g., the English to French folder in PWA (Odc files)?  Or does
that defeat the purpose?  Or, do I need to create a new set of oData Feed Connection files with a French version of Excel 2013 and save them to the French Data Connections folder in PWA?  Do I need to have a French version of Excel 2013 to create
French ODC files and ultimately French based reports and/ or vice versa?
I did notice that the following oData metadata command from within a browser produces different results (ie., English versus French metadata returned) depending on who runs it (i.e., French or English user, etc).  As you can see I am a bit confused.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

  • Encryption Type in Microsoft Excel 2013 (XLS file)

    Hello,
I am creating a password protected file of format Excel 97-2003 Workbook (.xls) using Microsoft Office 2013.
I have written a java program to read password protected excel file using POI API. I am able to read .xlsx file using this API, but I am not able to read .xls file. It throw error : org.apache.poi.hssf.record.RecordFormatException: Unknown encryption
    info 4
Using same java code I am able to read .xls file if I use Microsoft Office 2010 to create this file.
    As per POI API documentation:
Apache POI contains support for reading few variants of encrypted office files:
    XLS - RC4 Encryption
XML-based formats (XLSX, DOCX and etc) - AES and Agile Encryption
I think in Microsoft Office 2013, encryption type has been change for XLS file. So I want to know that how can I solve this issue. Also please let me know how to configure Encryption Type in Microsoft Excel 2013 Excel file.
    OS is Windows 8(64-bit).
    Thanks

  • In Excel 2013, can you create a powerview connected to a SQL server and then upload this to Sharepoint to 2013?

Creating a powerview in sharepoint browser can be tedious, but it is a lot more convenient in the desktop Excel 2013.
However, when you upload the excel document (where data source is SQL server) to sharepoint, there are two problems:
    1. The powerview is shown as a worksheet in the excel file in sharepoint
    2. You dont get the same features as a powerview - most importantly Export to PowerPoint.
Has anyone come across this?  Does this mean if you want to create powerview which are to be shown in full screen and also to be exported to powerpoint must always be directly created in Sharepoint browser?

    Hi,
There is no method to get around this. According
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/excel-help/power-view-explore-visualize-and-present-your-data-HA102835634.aspx,
Both versions of Power View need Silverlight installed on the machine.
You can’t open a Power View RDLX file in Excel, or open an Excel XLSX file with Power View sheets in Power View in SharePoint. You also can’t copy charts or other visualizations from the RDLX file into the Excel workbook.
You can save Excel XLSX files with Power View sheets to SharePoint Server, either on premises or in Office 365, and open those files in SharePoint. Read more about
Power View in Excel in SharePoint Server 2013 or in SharePoint Online in Office 365.

  • Error Message: "Excel cannot complete this task with available resources" when creating pivot table with Excel 2013

    Hi,
One of our users encountered this problem with Excel 2013 while creating pivot tables, particularly with large files. We tried to modify Virtual Memory
of the pc but error still persist. Why does this happen and how can we resolve this? Thanks.
Another error message encountered by the user, this time when opening large files. The files she tried to open are working fine in 2010. But when opened in 2013, it prompted : "There
isn't enough memory to complete this action. Try using less data or closing other applications."

    Hi,
In regarding of the issue, please provide us more information to assist you better.
Did your user using the Excel 2013 and Excel 2010 with same PC? If not, please let me know the both of the 2 PCs' hardware list/Windows operation system info.
Did you using Excel 2013 32bit version and Excel 2010 64bit version?
General speaking, this issue usually occurs with Office 2013 32 bit version. It has a limitation of 2Gb of memory that can be used by its process. And the 64-bit Excel can handle larger workbooks.
Thus, if your user using 32bit Excel, I recommend try 64bit Excel instead.
Here is a similar issue, we also could try it:

  • Unable to open Macro file in Excel 2013 but opens fine in Excel 2010

    Hello,
Hopefully someone can help us.  We have a Macro Excel file created with Password Protected to open as well as to Modify.  The file opens fine in version 2010. However, in Excel 2013, we get an error message "Cannot run the macro "filename.xlsm'!QC'.
The macro may not be available in this workbook or all macros may be disabled.  However, if we removed the password all together, the file can be opened in Excel 2013 without any issues.  We do NOT want to have the file without the password so any

    Hi,
Do you have the latest update of 2013, there has been changes in dec 2014 that causes problems with VBA code.
Maybe that is also the reason here. See below link for more information.

  • Excel 2013 hangs on opening a file on network

    Hello,
I have a user that is having problems opening some Excel files(.xlsx) from a specific folder on the network. I can open them fine with Excel 2013 and others can as well, even at the user's location which is off-site from the main building. These files are
about 2.5 to 3.5Mb in size. I could open a 62Kb file on the persons computer but the larger files Excel just sits there with the spinning cursor and the program window 'blinks', kind of like when you make it the active window then click somewhere else then
back. I can go up one level then into a different folder and have no issues opening Excel files there. I've tried opening through Safe Mode but it has the same behavior, performed a repair on Office as well as an Open and Repair on the file, made sure it was
a trusted location  and disabled hardware acceleration. Nothing is working. What else can I try to troubleshoot this issue?
On a side note and I'm not sure if this is helpful but when they tried opening the file, I never saw the temp file created like I do when you open any Office document.

I tried both and at first the xlsb file was hanging but I logged off to try other things under my account then logged back on again and it opened though pretty slow. I tried from my account as well and it is very slow but does eventually open. Under the
users account I copied the file to her desktop and it opens with no problem. The permissions are the same on all similar level folders yet the user can open Excel files from them with no problem and even larger than the problem files.
Edit: My mistake, the green progress bar happens on other folders as well. Talking with one of the senior IT who installed the system, this user is the last person of a chain from microwave>switch and fiber link>another switch and fiber link so just
may be a physical issue though from my experience the one folder 'seems' to have the most trouble in opening the Excel files.
Also tried disconnecting the network drive then reclogging to let the scripts recreate it. No luck with that approach either.

  • Passworded Excel 97-2003 file will not open in excel 2013

I can not open a file that I have saved as a passworded 97-2003 excel file using excel 2013.  When opening the file, it will ask for the password, I put in the password in, and excel freezes and then has to clkose because it will not open the file.
The file is NOT corrupt and will open on my computer with Office2007.  I can actually create a passworded file with excel 2013 but save it as a 97-2003 version, but when I try to open that file it will not open either?
Please explain to me how I am suppose to get the information off my 97-2003 file on this excel 2013 version??????
AGAIN the file is not corrupt and I don't want to open my file with my 2007 version machine, I want this passworded 97-2003 file to open with my excel 2013 machine!!!!!!!
Please send me a fix to this, and I've check the forum.  None of the work around options work.  NONE, I've checked them all.
This only appears to be a problem with a passworded 97-2003 file.  If it's not passworded it opens.

    Hi,

the same results, this includes a newly created file, files for which I have total ownership and files for which i have full control over. This condition is only true for Excel 2013, Office and other Suite applications are functioning well within tolerance.
This condition originally manifested when we first rolled out the MSFT Office 2013 image but subsided when we modified Trend Micro so that it would not scan edited files. After that it would only manifest occasionally and to single or a couple of users but
has now returned to being global. Any ideas as to how to remedy this would be greatly appreciated.

The blog post speaks to an error message that is not what my users are seeing. There is no reference to files being 'locked', rather it suggests that another user may be viewing the same file precluding a save action. Initially we believed it was related
to an issue caused by .TMP files but as it turned out a refresh of AV baseline policy relieved the condition. So it may have been a cache issue and how the AV was handling the temporary file but details behind causality could not be determined beyond refreshing
    the base policy.
Thank you for your suggestion though, I appreciate the consideration.

  • Page size error when creating PDF from Excel 2013

    Hello,
I am using Acrobat Pro XI, and am creating a PDF from Excel 2013.  I have updated Acrobat to the latest version (11.0.4).  I am using the Acrobat CreatePDF add-in inside Excel to convert a spreadsheet to PDF.  However, when I create the PDF, the page size doubles from 8.5" x 11" to 17" x 22".  I have checked the print settings inside Excel to insure that the content fits onto an 8.5" x 11" page.  I also checked the Preferences->Advanced Preferences of the Create PDF add-in and confirmed that the default page size is set to 8.5" x 11".  Does anyone know why it is creating the PDF with a 17" x 22" page size?  Also, can the page be resized back down to 8.5" x 11" within Acrobat Pro XI?

Hello - this did not happen when I printed the file to the Adobe PDF printer.  It correctly sized the sheet as 8.5" x 11".  Thanks for the suggestion.  Also, it will properly print out to the physical printer.
The main problem is when I am combining several PDFs into one document, I have some sheets sized at 8.5" x 11" and some at 17" x 22", so the document looks strange when viewing it online.  I am still not sure why the Create PDF add-in creates a different sized PDF than the Print to PDF function.

  • Problems with black color creating PDF from Excel 2013

    Hi
I want to create PDF from Excel 2013 using Adobe Acrobat distiller. When I do so I have problem with black which is 300 percent black instead of 100K. Problem is only with drawed lines from Excel's symbol menu (text is fine).
I use Acrobat 9 Pro and few days ago switched from Office 2000 to 2013.....and problems started.
Office 2000 and Acrobat 9 Pro worked ok and everything including drawed symbols like lines or squares were 100K black in PDF. Now in the case of Excel 2013 it is not so but when I use export function included in Excel and export file to PDF output is 100K. I am not sure if this kind of export is good for me. I use PDF's as inputs to InDesign. So I would like to have more control when create PDF from excel. But in Excel setup I can choose standard and minimum size and that is all.
I imported Adobe PDF Settings from computer where these settings worked with Excel 2010 but they do not do same job for me in combination with Excel 2013 (I have 300 black).
    To explain my workflow:
I am a publisher of crossword magazine and I use Excel to write crosswords. Then I create PDF's and import them into InDesign.
Should I use internal export included in Excel 2013? Are these PDF's ok for working in InDesign and finally for print purposes?
Or If you have any suggestion how to create PDF via Adobe Acrobat distiller setup (which I prefer) please give me advice.
    Thank you in advance
    Juraj

These are tough issues I suspect and the answer you need is probably trivial (it is finding it). I will make some suggestions, but I have no idea if any will work.
    -  In the printer under the Properties>Layout>Advanced>print quality, I use 300 dpi (default is 1200).
    - Under the printer preferences>settings>edit the settings file, I use again 300 dpi (default is 1200 dpi).
These may not fix your issue, but migth be worth a try. You could also try using the preflight script to change to gray-scale. It may not make any changes, but again may be worth a try.
All I am trying to suggest are the things I would be looking at. Maybe they will lead you someplace. Others may be by with better suggestions in time.
