New Sun 1 Studio 4 Mobile Edition User

I am new to the S1S4ME and want to use the SerialComm API for development of a MIDlet communicating through the comm port on my PC. I have installed J2SDK1.4.2_04, J2MEWTK 2.1, and obviously S1S4ME. I have placed the comm.jar & javax.comm.properties in the JDK lib dir and the win32com.dll in the JDK bin dir. How do I configure the S1S4ME for use so I can access the methods available in the SerialComm API?
Thank You

    I have no idea what could be causing this. I can find one link to it on this forum: http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9488983 . But the only answer to that query says it is the same as another bug which appears entirely different, not to mention being very old (while talking about an imminent fix), and being related to a different OS and (I think) a different version of sun studio (express vs. normal?).
    Any ideas? Could it be related to having gcc/g++ on the machine?

  • Cannot install new Sun Studio July release

    Hello Everybody,
    when I try to execute the Sunstudio--.sh the following error occurs:
    Please wait while Sun Studio is unpacked into this directory.
    tail: +651 kann nicht zum Lesen geffnet werden: No such file or directory
    bzcat: /tmp/ssregister.1631/sunstudio.tar.bz2 is not a bzip2 file.
    tar: Das sieht nicht wie ein tar-Archiv aus.
    tar: Fehler beim Beenden, verursacht durch vorhergehende Fehler.
    StudioExpress-linux-x86-2008-07-24-ii.sh: line 591: exit: Sun Studio instllation failed.: numeric argument required
    I tried to unpack the copied tarfile myself but got same error. Thus, it seems as if the tarfile is damaged. Does anyone get the same error? Or does anyone have a solution yet?

    Well, I downloaded the *.sh quite often by now, even using the SunDownloader. Nevertheless I get (after following the hint from your link) this:
    Please wait while Sun Studio is unpacked into this directory.
    bzcat: Compressed file ends unexpectedly;
         perhaps it is corrupted? Possible reason follows.
    bzcat: Success
         Input file = /tmp/ssregister.8729/sunstudio.tar.bz2, output file = (stdout)
    It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted.
    You can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files.
    You can use the `bzip2recover' program to attempt to recover
    data from undamaged sections of corrupted files.
    The -tvv flag did not work, but the bzip2recover revealed this:
    bzip2recover 1.0.4: extracts blocks from damaged .bz2 files.
    bzip2recover: searching for block boundaries ...
    block 1 runs from 80 to 448 (incomplete)
    bzip2recover: sorry, I couldn't find any block boundaries.
    Is the file really corrupt? Am I the only one experiencing this kind of problem?
    Does anyone have a clue?

  • Sun One Studio Mobile Edition

    I need to add "package Projects.MyProject.Files;" in order for the project to compile and the debugger to work correctly. When I do add the package declaration in the java source code, my midlet suite fails to compile and execute. How can I correct this so that everything works?

    Hmm. I will tell you how I did this.
    I created a folder named to my project, maybe c:\Foo\. In this I created a src and a class directory. I put the java files in the c:\Foo\src and told SunOneME to output the classes into c:\Foo\classes. Both directories have to be mounted to do so.
    If I want a package, lets say 'bar', I create a directory c:\Foo\src\bar. All files in this need the "package bar;" statement. The compiler then creates automatically the same in the class directory.
    You always have to mount the parent directory of the highest package-directory (src & class) because if you specify a file somewhere in your source-code as e.g. "bar.CheckerClass" the compiler searches the classpath for a directory "bar" containing the "CheckerClass". This may be a real directory or one in a jar file as well.
    Another idea: are you sure, that this file is in the package Projects.MyProject.Files? This seems a to be strange name for packages. I guess you actually are not using a package.

  • Need VOC about SCCS support in Sun Studio

    Hello, Sun Studio users!
    We need Voice Of Customers (VOC) about SCCS support in Sun Studio.
    The idea is to make Sun Studio editor and project system aware of SCCS,
    and to integrate SCCS support in Sun Studio, so that users will be able to
    select a file, and perform the following SCCS actions:
    * Check Out (sccs edit)
    * Check In (sccs delget)
    * Undo Check Out (sccs unedit)
    * View History (view SCCS history in as text)
    * Show Revisions (view SCCS history in explorer)
    * Compare Revisions (view differences in filemerge)
    Please, send your replies to me or add to this thread.
    If you think it is not a good idea - this is also important information.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Sun Studio 11 do not parse make output and create link to file?

    Hi,
    Running Sun Studio 11 and can only get file links in the output window when I run a make command that uses CC -g (debug option). We have integrated other tools into our make system (flexlint, cppUnit..) and even though we make sure that the syntax is exactly the same as the compiler output and matches regular expression under tools->options->building->make settings->error expression, it doesn't work. Why do you have to debug compile to get sun studio to create a file link in the output window? Doesn't sun studio just parse the text from the make command?
    example of flexlint output for which no link is created:
    "/vobs/project/oss/fm/fm4/fm-fmalib/fmbal/fmaaulib/src/FMA_List.cc", line 440: Error 84: sizeof object is zero or object is undefined'
    example of make debug output for which we do get a link:
    "/vobs/project/oss/fm/fm4/fm-fmalib/fmbal/SunOS5.10/inc/FMA_alarm_record.hh", line 1310: Warning (Anachronism):Info "static" is not allowed and is being ignored.
    Regards,
    Ola

    I'd second Maxim's suggestion: try NetBeans 5.5 with C/C++ Development Pack. The official release of NetBeans C/C++ Development Pack 5.5 has happened a few days ago. You can download it from
    http://www.netbeans.info/downloads/all.php?b_id=2284
    Some of the changes between the beta3 build and FCS are:
    * Significant performance improvements in the code parser resulting in faster results in the Class View and Code Completion
    * Programs now run in an external terminal (system dependent) by default. This allows better input control
    * Significant performance improvement in the debugging module
    * Significant functionality improvement in the debugging module
    * New project type "C/C++ Project From Existing Code" which simplifies creating a project from existing code
    * Macro support in code completion
    * Hyperlink navigation for macro usages and #include directives
    * Reformat code
    * Code folding
    * Code completion
    All these features will appear in next Sun Studio release, so you can
    consider NetBeans C/C++ Development Pack 5.5 as a preview of new
    Sun Studio IDE.

  • Sun Studio 12 IDE doesn't allow me to edit the C++ source files...

    I installed Sun Studio 12 on my PC:
    SunOS version 5.10 running on x86
    Java 1.5.0_16
    I created a shared library project but I can't properly edit the source files. I can't scroll up/down or right/left over the source files. I would appreciate very much if somebody could support me with that.
    Thanks and regards,

  • Sun Studio 11 Warning raised after new compiler upgrade

    Hi All,
    I have an issue regarding the warning raised by new complier upgrade.
    Sun Studio 11 is the product and OS is Solaris 8.The following are the warning messages after successful compilation
    1. Warning: declarator required in declaration
    2. Warning: Last line in file "../inc/bibbnote.h" is not terminated with a newline
    Please advise me on the above issue wheather the above warnings can be ignored.
    Regards
    Vinoth

    Those lines are not valid C++, since no typedef name is provided. Sun C++ accepts them as an extension, but issues a warning because the code is not valid.
    Examples:
    typedef int Int;
    Int is declared to be a synonym for int.
    typedef int;
    Invalid: no name is provided as a synonym for int.
    enum Foo { a, b, c};
    Foo is declared to be an enumerated type with enumerators a, b, c.
    Typedef Foo Bar;
    Bar is declared to be a synonym for Foo
    typedef enum { d, e, f } E1;
    E1 is a synonym for the unnamed enumerated type with enumerators d, e, and f. This is a C style declaration, which serves no useful purpose in C++.
    typedef enum E2 { g, h, i } E3;
    E2 is declared to be an enumerated type with enumerators g, h, i, and a synonym E3.
    typedef enum E4 { j, k, l };
    Invalid declaration. No name is provided as a synonym for E4. Remove the "typedef" and you have a valid declaration of E4 as an enumerated t ype.
    References: C++ Standard, sections
    7.1.3 The typedef specifier
    7.2 Enumeration declarations

  • Code generation in Sun Java Studio enterprise edition 7.0

    I went thru the product tour of Java studio enterpise edition 7.0
    http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jsenterprise/reference/presentations/launch_jse7_overview.html
    It says that it will generate code from UML documentation. After that can we use drag and drop feature of studio.
    Thanks

    Please review UML Modeling in Sun Java Studio Enterprise Webinar's materials to get more information about it:

  • Recommendation for new features in next Sun Studio releases

    Hello,
    I have started using the Sun Studio Express recently and as a feedback to your opening to receive proposals to new features in the next releases of the Sun Studio collection I would want to point some aspects of interest to the programmers in writing good software for embedded systems and not only.
    First of all, with regards to the subject of great interest to me in this moment, multicore/multiprocessor parallel programming, I would appreciate the following :
    - if the compiler would be extended with new directives to allow the programmer to measure the load of each core and/or processor that is available to him.
    - if the compiler would be extended with directives to allow the programmer to get the core ID on which a specific section of code is executed. As en example consider o multithreaded application and in the associated function for each thread read the core ID and function of this value perform specific actions.
    - if the compiler would be extended with directives to allow the programmer to get the ID of the processor in the system - supposing a specific system has many multicore processors. (I don't know if this is possible).
    - if the compiler would be extended with directives to allow the programmer to specify the core and/or processor on which it wants to be executed a specific process,thread,function,(maybe instruction).
    With these macros I think a lot of things can be exercised, one that I think in this moment is the posibility for the programmer to implement his own algorithm of load balancing for the cores and processors of his system.
    Another point I would recommend would be that the watch window in the Sun Studio IDE to permit the selection of the format in which the data to be displayed.As an example if I have a U32 variable to be able to select in the watch window the integer ,hexadecimal or binary format in which I would want to be displayed.
    Another useful thins that I sought at other IDEs would be a popup window or something similar to select how to see the source code: as a .c file , as an assembler code , or as a mixture of C and assemble.
    That's all for the moment, if I see something else I would post another message.
    Thank you,
    Steve.

    These are OS functions, not compiler's. Solaris has a wide selection of ways and tools to assign processes and threads to cpus; processor_bind(2) is a function you can call and pbind(1M) is a tool you can use on a running app. There are more, just google for it.

    Good point. I'll check if there already is an RFE (Request For Enhancement) filed and file one if it's not. Thanks for letting us know!
    Another useful thins that I sought at other IDEs would be a popup window or something similar to select how to see the source code: as a .c file , as an assembler code , or as a mixture of C and assemble.
    But there is disassembly window already. See screenshot here: http://developers.sun.ru/images/stories/sunstudio/images/sun_studio_dbx.png

  • Sun Studio 11: Cannot create a new file

    When I want to create a new *.h or *.cc file in my CVS mounted directory tree, studio raises it's famous "Unexpected Exception" dialog with a java stack trace. I have them prepared if you want, I just wanted to check before if there is some already known bug or advice. This worked flawlessly on Sun Studio 10.
    As for source browser (another topic in this forum), yeah, I would also very much like some kind of source browser, e.g. to be able to find all definitions/calls to my virtual method, have a class hierarchy...
    And one final note on the constant problems in communication between NetBeans and XEmacs, especially if there are two or more XEmacs windows open. Initially all works ok, but with time it starts...source error hyper links from make/build window and search dialog fail to open and position in the source file, then it can't open a file from Filesystems window, and when I restart the SunStudio, everything works again for some time.
    This was most annoying in release 9, then somewhat better in 10 but still present, and I see now nothing is better in release 11.
    Details:
    OS = SunOS 5.8 Generic_117350-26
    HW = sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Blade-1500
    SunStudio 11, netbeans 3.5V11, jdk1.5.0_06
    (all mounted from a Solaris 9 driven server)
    Thanks for reading and answers.
    Best regards.

    Thank you for your report! There is no bug filed for
    this issue,
    so, please, provide us with the java stack trace . OK, so there is a stack trace when opening a new header file:

    About XEmacs: yes, the communication between IDE and
    XEmacs is not stable. It was a little bit improved in
    Sun Studio
    10, but not enough. We plan to improve it in next
    release. I'll
    try to create a test case according to your
    description. BTW,
    why there are two or more XEmacs windows? Usually
    there
    should be only one window with many buffers. I don't
    think
    Sun Studio IDE can manage several XEmacs windows.Why? Because it is a great help to be able to watch two different buffers/modules at the same time when writing source code. If there is only one window with many buffers, I have to either split window in two (Ctrl X 2) or continuously switch between two buffers, which is annoying.
    Thanks for the feedback.

  • New Language Extensions in Sun Studio 12 C Compiler

    Sun Studio software engineer Dmitry Mikhailichenko gives an overview of some of the C-language extensions introduced in Sun Studio 12. Although some of these extensions are not part of the latest C99 standard, they are supported by the gcc compiler.
    The article also demonstrates how to use the new C features for creating generic macros with an example of linked-list manipulation-routines. Such macros semantically mimic C++ Standard Template Library, support arbitrary data types and provide strict compile-time type-checking.
    Read the entire article at http://developers.sun.com/solaris/articles/c_type.html and leave your comments in this forum entry. We'd like to know what you think about these extensions and if you have additional suggestions for the Sun Studio compiler team.

    Thank you for reporting the problem! I've submitted CR 6642662. It should be visible on web in a day or so.

    I hope u are using Tomcat to run Idm. Inthat case refer to the error that is generated on the command prompt window which will give you I believe an error in Java or some other error apart from the Xpress error you have cited..........if you can provide me that error I will try to provide you the solution to your problems.
