New to Flash CS3

Hi Guys,
I really need your help. I used to use Flash MX a while back.
I can animate in flash really well.
but my problem is the action script. Basicly, i'm design a
simple learning interface.
at the begining, theintro loads up, but then i need it to
pause. a button appears, which you can click on and it will take
you to the menu screen where you have 3 options to click on to look
at different products.
my problem is that I can manage to stope theanimation, but i
don't understand how to get the button to go to Scene 2 (which is
the menu animation)
Am i doing this wrong? will it work with another scene or doi
have to create a new file?
If i'm doing right, can anyone help me with the coding
please?
I really appreciate you reading this
thanks
A very frustrated...

I'm new to flash too, and I created my website in two weeks
using flash and dreamweaver. I still have to fix a couple of bugs,
but after doing tons of reading and using good extensions I was
able to get it up and running. I totally recommend you for the
slide shows what I used for my website. It very easy to configurate
in many ways, not much actionscript required, almost none. Check
out my site:

This is the link for the flash extension called 'Creative FL
Stroller' I used to create my galleries:

You can download it right away and comes with very easy to
follow materials.
I hope this helps!

    Hi all,
    I'm very new to Flash CS3. Can anyone give me a step-by-step
    instructions on how to make a banner for a web-site? Or a link were
    i can find step-by-step instructions?
    I have googled it but found no real help. I have tryed
    "Youtube" hoping to even fine any one (most likely a child) with
    directions on how to do this. Funny thing is that it seems most 8
    year olds are better at Flash CS3 than I am & i'm 45.
    Anyway, if you can help please make it simple or for the
    simple minded. :)
    Thanks to all!!

    I understand your pain...I just posted a similar request
    earlier today for help but finally figured it out on my own. I've
    done lots of searching online and used Adobe's Flash Classroom in a
    Book and also took an online ed2go class and I still don't have a
    good handle on Flash. Nothing seems to give clear step by step
    directions on animating images for web banners. You just have to do
    a lot of trial and error. These websites may help if you don't have
    time for the classes:

  • Deactivate flash cs3

    I am trying to deactivate Flash CS3 on my laptop so that I
    can install and use it it on my desktop machine. All I can find on
    this subject is the instruction to select "deactivate" from the
    "help" menu - but the help menu in my version of Flash CS3 doesn't
    contain this option.
    Is there another way to deactivate Flash?
    The options in my menu are as follows:
    - Flash Help
    - Help Resources Online
    - Whats new in Flash CS3
    - Flash exchange
    - Manage Extensions...
    - Flash support Center
    - Flash Developer Center

    - Adobe Training
    - Registration...
    - Download elicense...
    - Return elicense...

    - About Adobe Flash CS3 Professional

    I am putting this here because I had a lot of trouble finding help with this issue also.
    1) You may be working with a Volume License (did you get it from you school/business or did you buy it retail?).
         If this is the case, you DO NOT need to deactivate/reactivate anything with your version of CS3, all you need to do is uninstall/reinstall.
    2) If you are unsure, I found that the Help Chat was relatively pain-free: http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/, just choose your topic and select "Chat with an agent". They will need the serial number (hopefully there is a slip of paper in the back of your CD case with the number or else you recorded it somewhere) and they will be able to tell you what kind of license you have.
    Note: This only applies to when the Deactivate option is absent, and not when it is greyed out, which seems to be a different issue.

  • Flash CS3, Having Problems Creating Button Animation

       I am relatively new to Flash CS3, and don't use action script... I am creating an animation with sound using the button graphic option so it is a clickable button. I have the animation finished, and the sound embeded, and everything is working great, except when I publish it, I have to click and hold over the graphic for the animation to happen... If I click and release, the animation and sound clips stop... What am I doing wrong and how on Earth can I fix it??? Thank you in advance for any suggestions!!

    Yup, that is how it works. You can't control which state a button is in. So when you click on it, it will go to the down state and when you let go it will go back to over (or up if you release outside).
    Not sure exactly what the "fix" is. It depends upon what you are trying to do. Generally you would need to use MovieClips instead of buttons with event handlers to tell you "button" what to do. Very few people I know actually use buttons.

  • Do  new  FLASH CS3  support s AS2  codes ?

    Hi folks . . .
    When we use AS3 development tools , will old flash codes (
    AS1 and AS2 ) work correctly after this ?
    And can we use AS2 codes by flash cs3 tools ?
    Do ADOBE support AS1 and AS2 codes for a long time ??

    Yes. Flash CS3 is pretty much Flash 8 with new features and
    support for what
    it supported before (AS1 and AS2) and more (now additionally
    AS3)

  • Flash CS3 "slides" - any way to convert to newer version?

    Hello,
    I hope this is the right forum for my question.  I'm working on a massive project of manually converting very old Flash CS3 FLA files to Flash CC or Flash CS6.  I’m required to preserve all animation and functionality, but several thousand of these files were created in the discontinued “Insert Screen Type -> Slide” format.
    Is there a tool or workaround that would allow me to quickly convert an FLA file containing these old Flash “slides” directly into individual slides in a newer version such as Flash CS6 or CC?  My current process is extremely tedious and involves:
    opening up the original file in CS3
    selecting one of the many slides within the file
    copying all Frames from each slide within original file
    creating a new Flash file in a newer version of Flash for EACH ORIGINAL SLIDE
    In the new Flash file: creating Layers to duplicate all Layers of EACH slide in original Flash file
    copying EACH SLIDE’S individual frames and pasting them into similarly named Layers in a new file
    unfortunately, half the time the animation is not preserved and I end up recreating the slide from scratch
    There must be a more efficient way!  Surely there is a way to preserve the endless hours of animation done by the original creators.  Is there a tool that will export say, 100 slides into 100 new individual Flash files?  I’ve used Captivate and Dreamweaver for years but I’m relatively new to Flash, so maybe I’m overlooking a simple solution.
    Any assistance would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Lisa

  • Flash CS3 Crashes on New File

    Adobe's Flash CS3 installs fine with no problems, and the
    program runs (ie: It opens up without any visible problems.) But
    when I go to try and create a new file to begin a project the
    program crashes. The error window reads:
    Flash.exe Application Error -- The instruction at
    "0x042c6b6d" referenced memory at "0x0000000d". The memory could
    not be "read".
    I've tried uninstalling the application and reinstalling it,
    but that didn't help either. I'm quite stumped and don't know what
    else to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    I also just tried to see if I could get by with using
    Macromedia Flash 8; and the same thing happens when I try to open a
    new file.
    Tips? Tricks? ... This is irritating. I need to get a working
    Flash program going for my Flash class ASAP.
    Thanks!

    In other news, all other Adobe products I use work just fine;
    but that's only Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop and Illustrator.
    It just seems to be Flash that is having problems. Does anyone know
    of any other programs that work like Flash and do pretty much the
    same thing? Make the same kind of files that Flash can open/edit?
    Has anyone else had the same issue I'm having? (In the first
    post.)

  • New 9.0.2 update for Flash CS3 Professional

    I just ran the new Flash CS3 Professional update via the
    Adobe Updater. Everything ran and reported the update was
    successfully completed. However Flash still says it's 9.0.0.494 in
    the Finder and when choosing About Flash from the program it says
    9.0. Just wondering if the update really happened or not.

    Bentley: There is a downloadable update available NOW. And
    based on what you say the language is confusing.
    12/12/2007 Adobe Flash CS3 Professional (9.0.2) delivers
    support for the latest update of Adobe Flash Player 9. This update
    includes a new Video Playback component supporting H.264, support
    for Flash Lite 3 Update for Flash CS3 Professional, and all Debug
    and Release versions of this new Adobe Flash Player. For users of
    Flash CS3 Professional, this update will also be available via
    Adobe Update Manager in Flash CS3 Professional.
    It states "Adobe Flash CS3 Professional (9.0.2)". You should
    change that, as it does not appear to be the case. The language
    definitely implies that the program itself will be updated to
    9.0.2.

  • Problem with FLVPlayer in Flash CS3 (need to save out as Actionscript 3.0 SWf file)

    I am using Flash CS3 and am trying to publish a SWf file that
    makes use of the "FLVPlayback" component. I need for this SWF file
    to be published as an Actionscript 3.0 file, so I have set my
    publish settings to Flash Player 9.0 and Actionscript 3.0, but keep
    getting an error as follows:
    "WARNING: The component 'FLVPlayback' requires ActionScript
    2.0."
    Has anyone encountered this?? I am doing something wrong? I'm
    pretty comfortable within Actionscript/Flash 2.0, but am only
    beginning my first steps into the relam of CS3 and AS3.
    I have also attached a screenshot of the files that represent
    my FLVPlayback component (or so I assume). (see this link for

    Gotcha. You must have started the document in AS2, then
    changed the
    publish settings. Each version of the language has its own
    version of the
    FLVPlayback Component (written in the relevant language).
    Start over and
    compare two compleley new FLA documents: make one for AS3 and
    one for AS2.
    Open the Components panel and note the differences between
    the two. There
    are a different set of Components depending on the language
    chosen for the
    document. Drag the FLVPlayback Component from the Components
    panel in an
    AS3 document, and you'll have the AS3 version.

  • Quicktime movie export from Flash CS3 is skipping frame.

    When I try to export Quicktime movie from Flash CS3, the
    resulting mov file is skipping frames. i.e.: The movie is showing
    frame number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7, 7, 10, 11, 12, 12, 12, 15
    etc...
    As you can see the frame number 7 is repeated 3 times and
    frame 8 and 9 are nowhere to be found.
    The last configuration I used is 960x540, Sorenson video 3
    medium quality, 25 fps, keyframe every 25 frames. 6400 kbits/s.
    I tried various configurations,with different codecs and even
    with keyframe all frames and I always get simillar problems.
    Anyone have an idea what is going on, and how to fix this?
    Thank you,
    Olivier.

    The QT exporter in Flash is honestly my least favorite
    feature - not the feature itself but how it
    works (or how it doesn't work in some cases). For me it is
    almost unusable unless you have a very
    short timeline, small stage, lower frame rate - like AS
    generated effects or something - otherwise,
    for true frame accuracy to video output - it is not reliable
    enough and not fast enough for any real
    world production environment.
    So typically for me - I love SWF2Video (www.flashants.com) as
    it takes any SWF and makes it into an
    AVI that is frame accurate no matter what the frame rate is -
    quite incredible - enough so that I
    always felt it should have been bundled with Flash (as well
    as Wacom tablets).
    Harmony is an incredible product - as is SOLO and TBS (Toon
    Boom mStudio) - each of those programs
    are dedicated animation programs designed for output to video
    - Flash has a lot of hats to fill and
    it was never really designed for animation to video even
    though many of us have found it suitable
    for all intents and purposes as an animation program for full
    production.
    But all in all - the quicktime exporter doesn't really
    deliver how we would expect it too I am sorry
    to say - I only hope it works as well as it does on the Mac
    (Mac users could always choose to export
    to Quicktime Video but not PC users).
    For now if I am exporting to video I keep it all on the
    timeline or nested in Graphic symbols or use
    the SWF2Video tool.
    hope this helps.

  • How to add special characters in Flash CS3

    Hi, i need the help of some flash guru… these last weeks we were working with cloversites.com to build a community website… the interface is awesome etc etc however we in Malta have eight special characters (GCZ with a dot on top of them and an H with a second strikethrough). Those at cloversites wrestled with the problem, they could see the characters on their computers but when they entered the text in the site, flash couldn't render the special characters. Here is their message:
    I am extremely sorry about this, but we were unable to add in your characters. We attempted to add them into our software but they did not work. We worked on it all morning and realized that we need an extra add-on for our keyboards. Adding special characters is nothing new to us and have answered this request for many of our international users. For some reason, the Maltese characters did not work in our sites. For example, our "option-G" is the copyright symbol so it will need to be transferred over to international characters.
    Unfortunately, we thing that this has to do with Adobe Flash CS3. The software allowed me to embed the characters, but we were unable to render them on the web. Which led us to think it had to do with the version Adobe is running and its inability to render the text through its software on the web. None of the characters worked on the web, and it looks like its just an Adobe bug. So we are able to type and use the Maltese characters, but Adobe Flash is having trouble with them.
    Does anybody know of any possible solution?

    see if codepoints-to-string() is suitable for you ..

  • New to flash actionscript, making a game.

    Hi. My name's Rory.
    I am an artist.
    http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=PimpOfPixels
    http://roaring23.cgsociety.org/gallery/
    I am learning action script and Flash so that I can make
    games.
    I am not a complete novice in programming. I am proficient in
    Java and in MaxScript (3DSMAX embedded language).
    I have been making some progress in action script and I have
    a functional (although incomplete) game in the works. You can view
    it here:
    http://secure2.streamhoster.com/~rlu...orniverous.swf
    The idea is it's a color game
    red beats green, green beats, blue beats red. Think paper
    scissor rock.
    The idea is to change the entire circle into one color.
    The graphics are place holders BTW.
    I am using FlexBuilder 2.0 and Flash CS3, and I have come
    across a problem not covered in either of my books.
    I'd really appreciate any help that you guys can offer.
    I have gotten this far on my own.
    My #1 question (and I have many more) is:
    How do you through Flash specify animation segments for a
    MovieClip Symbol?
    Notice how the red creatures occasionally open their mouths.
    I want to have a walk, an attack, an absorb, and a bounce animation
    on the same timeline and trigger the appropriate one depending on
    which color the creature collides with. I do not know how to go
    about this problem. I’ve just been trying to get the walk
    animation to loop without playing the attack animation so far.
    I've tried frame-labeling in flash, with scripts on the key
    frames of a second layer that specify when to stop or repeat the
    animation... No dice.
    I have a symbol named RedShot in the library of a flash
    project named "graphics"
    In my timeline I have 2 animation segments, and I have a
    second layer denoting two corresponding frames named "walk" and
    "attack" from the properties menu.
    On the final frames of the animations I have scripts.
    Code:
    gotoAndPlay("walk");
    and
    Code:
    gotoAndPlay("attack");
    respectively.
    Im my library I have linkage options specified as such:
    Class:RedShot
    BaseClass:flash.display.MovieClip
    export of actionscript#CHECKED
    export on 1st frame#CHECKED
    on the main stage of my flash project I have actionscript for
    2 functions:
    Code:
    function walk(){
    red_shot.gotoAndPlay("walk");
    function attack(){
    red_shot.gotoAndPlay("attack");
    I export the project and the opened window has the "walk"
    animation looping properly.
    In my FlexBuilder project I embed the symbol
    Code:
    //Inside class global variables:
    [Embed(source="../graphics.swf", symbol="RedShot")]
    public var RedShot:Class;
    private var _shot:MovieClip;
    Code:
    //and in my buildShot function:
    _shot = new RedShot();
    addChild(_shot);
    When I build the project the characters appear, and they
    animate. The only trouble is that there are no breaks in the
    animation. The animation loops right through the frames where I
    have specified that the animation should "gotoAndPlay" from a
    different part.
    What's weirder is that I can call
    Code:
    "gotoAndPlay("attack");"
    without an error and it will go to and play from that point.
    The only trouble is that it will begin to loop the entire animation
    again without stopping at the gotoAndPlay events stored in the
    frames of the timeline.
    It seems like all embedded actions are ignored, add I can't
    think of another way to controll the animation.
    Any thoughts?

    After hours of searching the internet I finally got this
    blasted question figured out.
    How to you export a symbol from Flash for use in a Flex
    Builder project without destroying actionscript stored within the
    frames of the Symbol's timeline?
    That's a long winded way of saying: "In FlexBuilder, how do
    you control MovieClips from Flash". I'm trying to make games, and
    this was a particularly important question for me :).
    Here's how:
    1) You need a hotfix from Adobe.
    [HTML]http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401493&sliceId=2[/HTML]
    This allows Flash CS3 to export a SWC file.
    2)You have to set the linkage properties for your various
    symbols in the flash library panel.
    a)right click on symbol in library panel
    b)choose "linkage"
    c)"Class:" = (pick a name)
    d)"Base class:" = flash.display.MovieClip;
    e)"Export for ActionScript" = CHECKED
    f)"Export in first frame"=CEHCKED
    3)If you want to have multiple segmented animations as I
    certainly did you'll want to create frames and actionscripts within
    the symbols timeline to define where these animations are.
    a) in the symbol's timeline make a second layer. We'll name
    that layer "labels" for the sake of not having this get too
    confusing.
    b) on that layer create a new frame for each of the animation
    segments that you'd like to define and stretch them to the length
    of the corresponding animations.(I'm assuming that you have a
    keyframe animation on the 1st layer... otherwise what's the point
    of all this :P?)
    c)in the properties panel name the frames in the "labels"
    layer accordingly ie. "walk" "run" shoot" etc.
    d)Define whether the various animations play once or loop by
    adding a script to the last frame of the animation. If you want the
    animation to loop add
    [CODE]gotoAndPlay("name-of-the-animation");[/CODE]
    if you want the animation to play once and stop add
    [CODE]stop();[/CODE]
    if you want the animation to play once and then return to a
    different animation add
    [CODE]gotoAndPlay("name-of-a-different-animation");[/CODE]
    4) now you can export the symbols to an SWC file. Note: you
    do not get this option unless you have installed the hotfix.
    [HTML]http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401493&sliceId=2[/HTML] .
    a)rightclick on a symbol in the library panel
    b)choose "exportSWCfile..."
    c)export the file to a logical place such as the root of your
    FlexBuilder project.
    5) Now you have to tell flexbuilder about the new SWC file.
    Note: Once this file is added to the FlexBuilder library you can
    instantiate classes from it as though they were included using the
    "include" function.
    a)Right clicking on the root of the project in the Navigator
    view.
    b)going to properties.
    c)Going to library path. (2nd tab)
    d)and pressing the "Add SWC" button
    Now you're done and you can instantiate any of the symbols
    from your library while preserving any actions from your symbols
    timeline just as though you had imported it as a class from a
    typical library.
    Sweet huh?
    Thanks to the countless people and internet resources I found
    on the subject. Hopefully it will be easier for anyone who finds
    this post.
    Here's an adobe video which covers the basic process.

  • AIR Intrinsic Classes-Tried and Proven Approach to building AIR applications   in the Flash CS3 IDE

    Hi everyone,
    For all of you out there who would like to develop AIR
    applications
    from the Flash CS3 IDE but aren't sure how to get those pesky
    intrinsic
    classes working, I have a technique that you can work with to
    create
    your classes and make fully functional AIR applications.
    First of all, those solutions out there that list
    "intrinsic" functions
    in their class definitions won't work. That keyword has been
    taken out
    and simply won't work. The "native" keyword also doesn't work
    because
    Flash will reject it. The solution is to do dynamic name
    resolution at
    runtime to get all the classes you need.
    Here's a sample class that returns references to the "File",
    "FileStream", and "FileMode" classes:
    package com.adobe{
    import flash.utils.*;
    import flash.display.*;
    public class AIR extends MovieClip {
    public static function get File():Class {
    try {
    var classRef:*=getDefinitionByName('flash.filesystem.File');
    } catch (err:ReferenceError) {
    return (null);
    }//catch
    return (classRef);
    }//get File
    public static function get FileMode():Class {
    try {
    var
    classRef:*=getDefinitionByName('flash.filesystem.FileMode');
    } catch (err:ReferenceError) {
    return (null);
    }//catch
    return (classRef);
    }//get FileMode
    public static function get FileStream():Class {
    try {
    var
    classRef:*=getDefinitionByName('flash.filesystem.FileStream');
    } catch (err:ReferenceError) {
    return (null);
    }//catch
    return (classRef);
    }//get FileStream
    }//AIR class
    }//com.adobe package
    I've defined the package as com.adobe but you can call it
    whatever you
    like. You do, however, need to import "flash.utils.*" because
    this
    package contains the "getDefinitionByName" method. Here I'm
    also
    extending the MovieClip class so that I can use the extending
    class
    (shown next) as the main Document class in the Flash IDE.
    Again, this is
    entirely up to you. If you have another type of class that
    will extend
    this one, you can have this one extend Sprite, Math, or
    whatever else
    you need (or nothing if it's all the same to you).
    Now, in the extending class, the Document class of the FLA,
    here's the
    class that extends and uses it:
    package {
    import com.adobe.AIR;
    public class airtest extends AIR{
    public function airtest() {
    var field:TextField=new TextField();
    field.autoSize='left';
    this.addChild(field);
    field.text="Fileobject="+File;
    }//constructor
    }//airtest class
    }//package
    Here I'm just showing that the class actually exists but not
    doing much
    with it.
    If you run this in the Flash IDE, the text field will show
    "File
    object=null". This is because in the IDE, there really is no
    File
    object, it only exists when the SWF is running within the
    Integrated
    Runtime. However, when you run the SWF as an AIR application
    (using the
    adl.exe utility that comes with the SDK, for example), the
    text field
    will now show: "File object=[object File]". Using this
    reference, you
    can use all of the File methods directly (have a look here
    for all of
    them:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/labs/flex/3/langref/flash/filesystem/File.html).
    For example, you can call:
    var appResource:File=File.applicationResourceDirectory;
    This particular method is static so you don't need an
    instance. If you
    do (such as when Flash tells you the property isn't static),
    simply
    create an instance like this:
    var fileInstace:File=new File();
    fileInstance.someMethod('abc'); //just an example...read the
    reference
    for actual function calls
    Because the getter function in the AIR class returns a Class
    reference,
    it allows you to perform all of these actions directly as
    though the
    File class is part of the built in class structure (which in
    the
    runtime, it is!).
    Using this technique, you can create references to literally
    *ALL* of
    the AIR classes and use them to build your AIR application.
    The beauty
    of this technique is its brevity. When you define the class
    reference,
    all of the methods and properties are automatically
    associated with it
    so you don't need reams of code to define each and every
    item.
    There's a bit more that can be done with this AIR class to
    make it
    friendlier and I'll be extending mine until all the AIR
    classes are
    available. If anyone's interested, feel free to drop me a
    line or drop
    by my site at
    http://www.baynewmedia.com
    where I'll be posting the
    completed class. I may also make it into a component if
    there's enough
    interest. To all of you who knew all this already, I hope I
    didn't waste
    your time.
    Happy coding,
    Patrick

    Wow, you're right. The content simply doesn't show up at all.
    No
    JavaScript or HTML parsing errors, apparently. But no IE7
    content.
    I'll definitely have to look into that. In the meantime, try
    FireFox :)
    I'm trying to develop a panel to output AIR applications from
    within the
    Flash IDE. GSkinner has one but I haven't been able to get it
    to work
    successfully. Mine has exported an AIR app already so that's
    a step in
    the right direction but JSFL is a tricky beast, especially
    when trying
    to integrate it using MMExecute strings.
    But, if you can, create AIR applications by hand. I haven't
    yet seen an
    application that allows you to change every single option
    like you can
    when you update the application.xml file yourself. Also, it's
    a great
    fallback skill to have.
    Let me know if you need some assistance with AIR exports.
    Once you've
    done it a couple of times, it becomes pretty straightforward.

    Download the BNMAPI today. You'll wonder how you ever did
    without it!
    Available for ActionScript 2.0/3.0.
