New to sap - need help in configure backup strategy for SAP XI server.

being a netweaver guy, recently i have been given the responsibility of few basis activities.like database backup.
can any one tell me clear procedure to take both daily online and weekend full offline backup of oracle in to disk first and then to tape. i have seen in the internet material few discussing about brbackup and few about sap DB13. i am totally confused which one to use, and which is good. please help

welcome on board as SAP Netweaver guy,
don't be confused both DB13 and BRtools are the same both of them will call brbackup.
to configure the brtools you have to change in your brtools profiles located at %ORACLE_HOME%/dbs
please before changing any thing take backup from that folder.
- to take the backup to disk then to tape you will need extra backup software, because using the SAP slandered tools you have to select either Disk or Tape.

Obviously, I would like to get this setup to work, but I also have couple other questions regarding this setup.
1. When installing the gateway, it asks to run the root.sh script. the root.sh script as for the following.

Need help creating a backup strategy

I have never backed up any data in my life (long time mac user, no problems) and have just recently bought the Lacie d2 250 firewire drive. The reason for this purchase was that I am sending my MBP in for repairs and began reseaching various backup software. Now I am completley paranoid and somewhat confused. Here are my questions to the pro's:
1) I know that I would like to have a clone of my drive so that if my drive goes to heaven I can I can boot off the external backup and restore. Now, does this mean that I have to clone my drive nightly to be up to date?
2) I have read that some programs will do incremental backups of only files that have been changed. My confusion here: Is the clone modified? Or are these programs seperate backup files that I would have to restore in addition to restoring from the bootable clone?
3) I would like to have a bootable clone and backup changes in documents/ new files nightly. Nothing superfancy. From my understanding superduper can do this, data backup x can do this ($$$), and I suppose the list goes on. In your opinion what program would provide the most time effiecnt means/ sensable method to do this?
4) if you do something similar to what i want to do, can you give an example of your stratagy?

It sounds like you need SuperDuper!.
From what I know, it will do bootable clones, incrementals, and the other things you need. I only use it to backup my home folder to an image on my firewire HDD. I have limited backup space which is why I don't do a full clone. Also I think it requires you to reformat your external HDD if you want to make it a bootable clone. Check out their documentation for more info - it's pretty easy to use but going thru the documentation will give you all the options and help you to define how you want to backup.
You can download it free to try but you need to buy it to get access to all of the features, like scheduling and incremental backups. At US$27.95 I think it's a bargain tho..

I want to Configure, FTPS connection (Secured Connection) for File Sender Adapter. Could anyone please guide me, what Information I require to configure. I just want to know what Information should I request the team inorder the configure FTPS so that it can be deployed properly.
I have checked with [SAP Help Link|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/EN/e3/94007075cae04f930cc4c034e411e1/content.htm] and while configuring the communication channel found that I need Keystore and the X.509 Certificate and Private Key. which needs to be deployed on the J2EE server by using the Visual Administrator.
Is there anything else, I need to configure.
Any help would be appreciated in this regard.

The basic things are Certificate/Keys which you already know. Usually it is enough for running a sceanrio.
However, if you have additional requirements, like FTPS for "Connection Security" for encryption, then you may need additional details like commands. Rest all settings are same as FTP.

Simplest Backup Strategy for Full IMAP server

I have just reorganized all of my mail for the last few years on to my university Exchange server (IMAP) and of course it is full. I want to preserve my old messages and reduce my emails to the most recent ones on the Exchange server. What is the simplest approach to saving the old emails? Do I copy them to my "on the mac" and then copy them to CD, or is there a simpler solution?

Hi Grant.
Mail stores most preferences and all the account settings in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (except the passwords, which are stored in the keychain). Everything else, including all your messages and mailboxes, is stored in ~/Library/Mail/.
Similarly, Address Book (whose data you should back up as well) stores the settings in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist and the data in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/.
These files can be backed up just like any other data files. The affected applications shouldn’t be running while making the backup.
Actually, while you’re at it, you might as well back up your entire home folder...
For IMAP accounts, if Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Keep copies of messages for offline viewing is set to All messages and their attachments, Mail keeps a local copy of those messages on your hard disk that becomes part of any backup that includes the ~/Library/Mail folder.
Selected messages can be exported in standard mbox format by doing File > Save As in Mail and choosing Raw Message Source from the Format popup menu. Standard mbox files can be imported into most mail clients. In particular, they can be imported back into Mail doing File > Import Mailboxes and choosing Other as the data format. Using this format, however, would cause some status flags to be lost (e.g. whether a message has been replied to).
Locally stored mailboxes can be copied to the Desktop or anywhere else by just dragging them there from Mail itself (for server-stored IMAP mailboxes, copy the messages to locally stored “On My Mac” mailboxes in Mail first). These, however, are *.mbox folders (not standard mbox files), where messages are stored in individual *.emlx files that other mail clients don’t know or care about. They can be imported back into Mail doing File > Import Mailboxes and choosing Mail for Mac OS X as the data format.
Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has an Archive Messages script that you may also find useful.
Finally, there are several backup/archiving solutions for Mail available out there:

Backup strategy for ebs R12?

I have a couple of questions regarding to backup strategy for ebs R12.
Let's say that we have one application server and one database server running, and we would like to have a backup periodically for both servers.
This means that we want to have the exactly same backup of configurations and other files for the application server and the database server in case of any fatal crashes in the servers.
I went through some discussion threads and it seems common way is to use RMAN for the data of database and file system copy for application and database servers. But, I would like to know what's the best way or recommended way for the backup strategy for data and server files of Oracle e-business suite.
Do you guys have any suggestion for this?

For your issue basicly what we do
1. For our prod db, if possible we take weekly cold backup(sunday) and take rman backup also daily(full backup, but it depends system you can prefer to take incremental)
2. For our system we take file system backup weekly(OS base)
3. For application we take backup every sunday(for some system 15 days or 30 days period). The most important point here if your system prod, and if you need to apply patch to your system you need to have valid backup and also need backup for after patching
One other important issue is we run preclone sh before take backup for apps and db tier

Use View > View Options, and set 'Sort By" to "Manual Order."
Then you will be able to drag-n-drop songs up and down the list.

The way that Dropbox works is that it keeps a copy of all your files in your local Dropbox folder on your hard drive (which is, by default, directly under your home folder). Adding files to that folder will sync them to the Dropbox server.
You do of course have to download the Dropbox application to enable this (download link at the top right of http://dropbox.com ).

If you mean you wish to plug a USB drive into the Airport Extreme router (or TC not express) that is easy..
The disk must be formatted FAT32.. as if.. stay away from FAT .. or HFS+ ie Mac OS extended Journaled.
Format the disk on a Mac is best.. and even use GUID partition scheme not MBR.
The PC has no issue writing and reading files because this is a network drive.. The PC does not write to the drive.. it writes files to the Airport OS which writes and reads the disk and passes the info using standard windows SMB.. To the windows computer it will be a Windows NT server.. FAT32 setup.
If your setup is different.. to my hugely guessed assumptions.. give details.. always helps to have.. make and model.
Make and model of disk.. make and model of router.. how the setup will be done.. what windows OS you run.. etc etc.
As it stands your question could have nothing to do with apple at all.. other than you posted in a forum so I guess there is something apple in there somewhere.

How does Websense expect your source IPs in the tunnel? 192.168.8.0 0.0.3.255 or PAT'ed 216.222.208.101 ?

So, in iTunes, when you look at the shuffle's content (in the sidebar) and click on the playlist under the shuffle, over to the right, the songs are in your desired order, correct? Where do you look, or what do you do, that indicates the playlists are in alphabetical order? Are you saying that when you play the songs while using the shuffle, they play in alphabetical order?
If so, when you listen to the songs on the shuffle, are you using the playlist, or are you using the All Songs list? If you are in the default All Songs list, with the shuffle's power switch set to play-in-order (the middle position), the songs play alphabetically, I believe.
The 3rd gen shuffle uses VoiceOver. If you are in the All Songs list, you need to use VoiceOver to switch to the playlist (see manual linked below for details). When you are in the playlist (with the shuffle's power switch set to play-in-order), then the songs should play in playlist order.

Need help w/ setting up ports to run a server for America's Army. I read wat u need to change the ports but i dont understand wat to put. here is wat the site says

A: Quick and dirty server info:
1. Edit RunServer.bat to change the map.
2. Run RunServer.bat
Or:
server.exe LAN MAPNAME.aao (Host a LAN game)
server.exe global MAPNAME.aao (Host a Public game)
Also: When you create a server setup and want to allow other users to join your server, you need make sure the following ports are open for outgoing and incoming traffic in your firewall: 1716 (UDP), 1717 (UDP), 20025-20045 (TCP), and 20047 (TCP). Failure to open these ports will prevent the server from accepting connections from other players or prevent other players from being able to see your server online.
There are several settings that also need to be defined in your server configuration INI file (in the Windows version, these files are located in “My Documents\America’s Army Server Settings\{settings file name}.ini”).

Make sure that you set the actual IP address of the America’s Army Server under GameServerIp= (for example, “GameServerIp=000.000.000.000”). The supplied address must be your actual internet IP address, if this is left blank or you supply the IP address for your internal network (such as 192.168.0.x), your server will not be able to accept connections from the internet.
If your server.ini file contains the setting shown below, please change the QueryPort setting to 20025. This setting can also be removed, as the default setting is port 20025.

Your images are not stored in the catalog. They are stored in folders on your computer. If you imported images that were already on your computer using the "Add" Option they are still in that same folder. If you imported images from your camera then they are in the folders that you specified when you imported. When you want to provide a copy for someone else, you use the export dialogue for that purpose. I often export JPEG images to share with others or to post on the web. After I have usedthe JPEG for its intended purpose I delete it.

I've learned something. New. This must be recently changed. That last time I clicked on a Link I though was a dmg file and turned out it was and exe file my Macs wouldn't allow me to do so. But haven't tried recently everytime and exe file comes up I cancel. I gues I am used to the time everytime a Virus or some other nasty was downloaded it was packaged in and exe file and Macs owuldn't allow it. I suppose with the INtel guts now they can no longer refuse to download.

Help to Configure Connection Pool For Jdeveloper

I am using Jdeveloper 10.1.2 and Oravle AS 10.1.2.
Language Used : J2EE,Struts and EJB
I am portletizing struts application.
I need help to configure Connection pool. By default it is taking a datasource.xml not the one i had defined. Pls help me out. Affecting the performance due to so many hit to db.
