New to Xperia Z2 - back glass spontaneously broken already :(

Hey guys,
Im a long time iPhone user swithing to Android for the first time with the Sony Xperia Z2 in black.
Firstly, I love the phone and some of the stuff you can do with android.
Unfortunately, after about a week or two of owning it I noticed a transverse crack on the back of the phone through the glass. I had not at all dropped it and have in fact been babying it around in a soft gel case.
The next day, I noticed more cracks on the back extending to the bottom, in an inverted Y-shape
The phone was purchased from the eBay seller here2-buy who has refused to fix it, despite advertising it having Australian Warranty.
Sony Australia have also refused to help, saying that I need an invoice with the IMEI of the phone and an Australian Business Number (ABN) on it. Their repair centre is actually a 3rd party in Sydney as they down't have their own.
So Im stuck with a 2-week old phone that has multiple cracks in the back - and no one believes me when I say that it has happened spontaneously.
I've never broken any of the iPhones I've ever owned and so it is quite disheartening to go from Apple Care (where I would walk into my local store and walk out with a new phone) to trying to convince someone over email or on the phone that this was not my fault and sending the phone around the country in the hope someone will fix it.
Any thoughts from anyone would be appreciated!
Ps. As you can see there is no damage on the casing/edges

I looked into this seller and the business is in Hong Kong which will make recieving any help from them almost nill and as they won't be bound by any of your consumer laws plus cross country consumer laws don't exist then again obtaing help will probably be none existant - Depending on how long you have had the phone you could make an ebay claim or paypal claim as you should have the ebay buyer protection

  • Broken back glass on iphone 4

I've dropped my iphone4 and the back glass has broken, although the phone still works fine.  Has anyone had their back glass repaired by Apple and know how much it would cost?  I've made an appointment at the store in Covent Garden London but they can't tell me how much it will be.  There are some independent repairers which have quoted me £40 or £50 - I suspect cheaper than Apple but I'm a bit concerned about using them.  Any thoughts or experiences please??  Thank you!

If it's still under warranty I'd advice you NOT to repair it yourself just to be safe. Go to the Apple Store and ask them to repair/replace the back case. They charge £25 in Glasgow, Scotland. I'd imagine they'd charge the same in London

  • Will Apple Care fix a phone with a broken back glass?

I bought an iPhone 4 in July 2010 at an ATT store, and bought an Apple Care plan with it at the same time.  I managed to shatter the back glass of my phone on the day I bought it.  It's been working fine ever since with the broken back glass.  I just put it in a case and haven't worried about the back being broken.
However, recently the home button has stopped working very well.  I am still under Apple Care extended warranty; however, I don't know if they will fix my home button with the back glass being broken.  Does anyone have any ideas or ever been in this situation?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.  Just to be clear--I'm not asking them to fix the back glass, which I know is not covered by warranty.  I'm asking if they will fix something else that shoudl be covered.  They could send it back to me with the back glass still broken as long as the home button worked.
Sorry, but you're going to be out of luck. There is no way to prove that the damage that cased the glass to crack did not also cause the problem you want fixed under warranty. The only option Apple is going to give you is a $149 out of warranty replacement.

  • Z3 spontaneous crack back glass

I have been very lucky with my previous Xperia Z and never had any of the famous problems.
Now though my new Z3 had a spontaneous crack in the rear glass. It didn't drop and is just went crack. I know sony did replace Z screens and backs in warranty.
Is this a problem on the Z3 too? Who do i contact?

    Thanks Thommo,
I will contact sony care. But what i wanted to find out here is if this spontaneous cracking is a common problem with the Z3 too.
And then especially the back glass, not the front.@Sketcher I don't know about spontaneous cracking, but yes cracking of touch screen and back panel glass seems to be common problem, search net and you can find 100s of people complaining about the same.. What I can say is glass are not durable enough to take any impact or pressure, even temprature change can affect its resistance towards any impact. So rule number one use back cover and hide the beautiful surfaces (which was one of reasons I bought this phone)But still I think glasses are sub-standard material, so can't gurantee anything. Do share your experiences in dealing with service center, and how much time/money/efforts you invested to get it repaired. Cheers!!

  • Shattered Xperia Z Ultra back-glass

Dear Sony Support Team,It is of extreme discomfort that I write to you regarding the first ever serious complaint I have faced in the last 12 years of my connection with the Brand. I recently bought Sony Xperia Z Ultra with the IMEI number 357656050195500. It has hardly been a month since I procured it, and was enjoying the unmatched features and functions it offers. Until yesterday. I took the phone out of my pocket as it rang yesterday, the back of the phone hit my steel-strapped watch and shattered / cracked. That is not the end of it. Exactly where it hit the watch, I have also got a tiny spot on the beautiful display. Trust me, there was NO Fall whatsoever, no other hit whatsoever either. It just hit the corner of the watch, conservatively. I have been upset ever since, and I can tell you it is extremely disappointing, especially as Sony would not stop raving over how the glass is unbreakable / shatter-proof. I take the blame for the cell phone hitting the watch (the back of the phone), but such a mild hit would do this to the phone? I have 17 Sony phones today with my office staff, and am extremely happy till now. How can you help me with solving this issue, as well as retaining me as a customer, especially when I have bought the phone for 46,000/-, which isn't cheap by any means of imagination. I am not saying that just because it is expensive, you should help me. I am trying to present my case in the most truthful manner possible. In me, you have a Sony Mobile loyalist, and I hope you help me out with replacement of the back glass (and the display spot issue please). Looking forward to your reply.

Same problems. I leaned against my car with the phone in my pocket and it cracked though the bottom glass, and then later the top glass showed the same problem and ceased responding.  As frustrating as this was the help-line was far worse. The people who answer seemed far better trained in redirecting complaints and avoiding the caller than they are in offering information. The answer I was given ad nauseum was "It is a $40 fee to mail the phone in and inspect it. This is an inspection fee and does not cover any repair cost". No one wanted to hear the problem and getting an idea of how much the repair would cost seemed forbidden.  This seems like an unexpected and unrelated response on my part, but I was in the process of deciding what system to buy; Xbox One or PS4. The PS4 at the time was getting better reviews, however my live account was with Xbox 360. After trying in vain to get information on fixing my phone (a phone I loved) I bought a Xbox One. The way Sony's support staff treated me and avoided talking to me (nearly 2 hours on hold between 3 phone calls) I simply felt it was not a company that would be dependable in the future if I had any further problems. I had already thrown $400 dollars away on one of their products, I was unwilling to double down knowing how their staff would treat my future concerns.

  • Want to change broken back glass on 4S. What screwdriver works?

    Hi
Dropped my iPhone 4S (16gb) and broke the back glass. Ordered a replacement from Canada that came with 3 small screwdrivers. None seems to work.
I believe my Model No is A1387, at least the A and 87 are clearly legible.
What screwdriver works and any idea where to get it?

Dang, I stand corrected, I checked with the particular store, and you're absolutely right, $29.99. Thanks!!!
(I'm really messing up, I even clicked myself as 'This helped me'. What a doink I am.
    Thanks again, KiltedTim.

  • IPhone 4S broken front and back glass with AppleCare

What can apple store do for unlocked  4s under AppleCare with cracked front and back glass?

They can replace your phone for $199. Standard AppleCare does not cover accidental damage at all. On the plus side, your AppleCare policy will carry over to the replacement phone.

  • Self-cracking back glass

So, another self-cracked back glass on a Z2!
Phone is brand new. Used it for some browsing, put it in my pocket, took it out shortly after again and the back glass was completely shattered. I took the phone to a repair shop (not Sony) and the technician agreed that since there was no breaking point or other indicators that the phone had been dropped, it must be an "internal thing."
    But surprise! Sony disagrees.
Basically I got told by customer support that a shattered glass will be considered a user fault no matter what.
Think about that for a second: Sony sells me a faulty product. It then breaks due to poor build quality and it is my fault regardless of what documentation and examination of the unit is provided (together with all the evidence from other users experiencing the same).
I am going to contact the equivalent to the "Watchdog" show on BBC here in Denmark to hopefully have them investigating this. This is NOT how you take care of your customers.

You need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

  • Z3 back glass

Just a straight question, is there a protective film over Z3 s back glass. Mine is getting scratches very early.

@sonyabraham22 I can confirm that there is not one preinstalled in all cases I am aware of, however some markets may choose to include one with the handset in which case you are best to speak with your local Xperai Care team to confirm.

  • How much does it cost to fix the back glass of the iphone 4s?

My friend's iPhone 4S back glass broke. Can they fix it at the Apple Store? How much does it cost?

No, they do not fix iDevices.
If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5s. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
