Newbie formula question for displaying text

Post Author: maxair21
CA Forum: Formula
Thanks for you help in advance. I'm using Crystal XI and I'm trying to write a formula that will display text if a certain parameter is met. I believe I need to user the IF Then Else to accomplish this. For Example: If X = 0 Then display "Active" Else display "Inactive" I hope that made sense. Thanks,Eric

Thanks so much for you help. I thought I was doing it right but I kept receiving an error so then I started to second guess myself. It turned out that I was using quotes("") when I shouldn't have been using quotes. Thanks again.

• Formula Question for calculating % Revenue Share in Webi Report

I am trying to calculate the % Revenue Share for a given month as a % of the total revenue for that month in the report. This should be across all sales divisions for a given month. I'm using the formula "=Sum([Invoiced Product Revenue]) ForEach ([Calendar Year/Month]", but it's not calculating correctly. It works fine when my report only includes 1 month, but I'm running the report for a full year and the report breaks down the Invoiced Product Revenue by month. I've tried adding "In Report" at the end of my formula but that is not working either. I would expect that the % Revenue Share would not re-calculate the monthly % Revenue Share every time I add additional months in the input control. I would expect that the January 2013 % Revenue Share should remain constant even if I select additional months to be added to my report.
This product of this calcuation is setup to reflect as a percentage. Any thoughts on what I need to tweak?

Hi,
What is your output when you create vertical table as below
Col1   ||                  Col2                 ||                          Col3                               |
Month || [Invoiced Product Revenue] || Sum([Invoiced Product Revenue]) In Block |
You can try using In Block , Break , Section or Report .
Or
if you have year then use year in report & use for each with year .

• Newbie Formula Question

One of the fields of my report uses the formula below:
Trim({Names.LAST_NAME}) &", " & Trim({Names.FIRST_NAME})
If the First_Name field is blank then the whole name appears blank on the report. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for any help.

Moved to Report Design forum.
NULL's are valid results and CR stops processing the formula if one if returned.
Search for ISNULL and you'll find answers.
Short answer is:
if NOT ISNULL {Names.LAST_NAME} then (Trim({Names.LAST_NAME}) &", " & Trim({Names.FIRST_NAME})) "" else

• General place for newbie datamodeler questions?

With the production release of SQL Developer Data Modeler I'd assume that this forum will draw a bunch of new users. Is there a better place to ask some pretty simple, newbie like questions that won't bother the more seasoned members?
For instance, I am working in a Rails environment, which has some stringent naming conventions, one of which is that all of the primary key columns are numeric and called "id", with the foreign key linked columns called <table_name>_id. When engineering a logical model to a relational model, the added foreign key columns are all "id#". Is there a way I can define a naming rule to keep me from having to redo the relation column names?
Also, we have a standard set of columns (mostly Rails related) which appear in every table. Can I define a generation rule which automatically includes these tables?
Thanks

Thank you. I will try changing that setting.
IS there a setting which tells the relational model to automatically create pk and fk indexes? I haven't seen one, and manually setting them up is a tedious task. --sw

• How to display texts automatic. besides entered value for a field in Trans.

How to display texts automatically besides the entered value for a field in a standard transaction screen. For example you have a value table and a text table associated to it. Then on entering the value field and pressing enter the text associated should get displayed immediately besides the value. Like if you have 'LOC' as the value and 'Location' as the text associated to it, on entering this value 'LOC', you automatically get the text 'Location' printed besides it automatically in a transaction screen ?

Hi sarika,
Welcome to SDN.
1. first of all, such display of text,
is not automatic.
(it appears to be automatic)
2. At design time,
a) take one extra field for text
and mark it as OUTPUT ONLY
3. Then in PBO coding,
call some module, and in that module
write code
4. The code should be to
select from TEXT Table
into the work area.
EG. THE SCREEN TEXT FIELD NAME IS
T510A-FIELDNAME.
CLEAR t510a.
SELECT SINGLE * FROM t510a INTO t510a
WHERE trfar = FIELVALUE.
5. This will take care of
displaying the text value of that field.

• Photoshop elements mac, newbie questions for webshop

Hello all,
My name is Jelle and i have photoshop elements for mac, which i mostly use to create banners, headers and backgrounds for my website www.dagelijkseluxe.nl.
Though this is my question, i think there are a lot of people like me, bumping in the same problems. Maybe it's an idea to have a webshop webinar someday (or i missed it) for some basic functions mostly used for websites. Like easy banner creation, background adjustments for sites and products, best product presentation, etc.
Even though i mostly use the guided editing, i sometimes venture off and try to use the full editor. Now, this must be too easy for most of you powerusers, but the background of the webshop is still a bit to dark to my liking. However i feel i have reached all i can do with the different sliders presented in the guided tour.
Is there an easy way to "mistify" the background or any photo for that matter?
I also save the files as PNG as per recommendation from the sitebuilder. what's the difference with interlaced and non interlaced saving.
Thank you in advance for your time!
Kind regards,
Jelle Dingemans

You could use:
Filter >> Blur >> Gaussian Blur
That should mystify or blur your image.
Interlaced is a better method for displaying mainly large images on monitors - but you get a slightly larger file. Small images tend to load very quickly so non-interlaced will keep the file size down.

• MSN only displays text. Firefox IE both. Rebooting router/modems corrects the problem for awhile.

Everything runs great for a few weeks and the right out of the blue MSN home page only displays partial imiages and the rest of the imiages display text only. Rebooting the modem and router and desk top corrects the problem for a couple of weeks. Help.

Something that only occurs every few weeks is going to be hard to debug.
Next time it happens, could you try reloading the page bypassing cached pages? You can do that using Ctrl+Shift+r to force a full reload from the server. If that works, then most likely some files in Firefox's cache became corrupted.
Not sure why you would simultaneously have the same issue in IE, though. Hmmm...

• Is variable offsets can be used for characteristics, text and formulas?

hi all,
can anyone let me know whether variable offsets can be used for characteristics, text and formulas.
if so cany one send me examples of using offsets to my email id [email protected]
regds
hari

You use offsets on dates (0CALMONTH, 0FISCYEAR, 0DAT and so on) and of course the corresponding texts.
If you have 0CALMONTH in your query and you want to do the same thing not only for the current month but for the past twelve months, they you just minus 1, 2....11,12 for each selections, and at the same time you can create text variable for the description of each month.
thanks.

• How to Display the ColumnName for the Text of any Master Data Object in BEx

Hi Experts,
In Bex Analyzer While Displaying the Key and text of any Master data object it shows column name for master data key but not for the text, here client requirement is he wants to see the Text column name as Description for any master data text.
say Customer Number is a master data object , while displaying key and text of CustomerNumber - column names should look like as below
CustomerNumber Description
C11111 Pepco
C11112 Coke
but usually in Bex Analyzer it displys as following(Text without column Name)
CustomerNumber
C11111 Pepco
C11112 Coke
Please suggest how can we achive this requirement, thanks in advance.
Regards,
Chandra

Hi Chandra,
I suggest you to enhance your datasource with text feild, by adding text feild to your datasource in ECC side and replicate it ti BI side.
For this you have to write code at CMOD.

• Voucher to RSD for displaying Vendor Vouchers as well as to text file alv

how to create report
Voucher to RSD for displaying Vendor Vouchers as well as to transfer details to text file using alv

Halo Nitin,
If you are using Cl_gui_alv_grid you can use method set_drop_down_table to set the list values in a cell in ALV like below.
data: lt_dropdown type lvc_t_drop,
l_dropdown type lvc_s_drop.
l_dropdown-handle = '1'.
Concatenate 'C001' 'Current Account' into l_dropdown-value .
append l_dropdown to lt_dropdown.
Similarly do it for C002
Once you have filled up lt_dropdown you can pass the internal table to grids set_drop_down_table method
call method l_grid->set_drop_down_table
exporting
it_drop_down = lt_dropdown.
where l_grid is the reference object of your ALV Grid.

• Displaying text whenever there is no value present in Database

Post Author: Sujitha
CA Forum: WebIntelligence Reporting
Hi
My business demands that a text 'Defaulted to Zero' be displayed if for a given combination of columns there is no data present in the Fact table. We use oracle 9i.
I have already used the number format where we put a value for the undefined value to display a text N/A where ever the value is not applicable. But i need to display text "Defaulted to Zero" wherever the value is applicable but NOT present in database!!
Can this be acheived in Bo level,I am using BO XI R2.?
This is a very urgent requirement as my project delivery is scheduled.!!
Many Thanks!!!

CA Forum: WebIntelligence Reporting
Suzie,
You can create a new local variable to report (called something like "NVP"), leave it as a "Dimension" and in the formula type:
if([col_a]=0 or [col_b]=0;"NO VALUE PRESENT")
Basically, you are using the "if" function and the syntax is very much like used in excel except you separate the arguments with a semi-colon versus a comma. You start out with "if()" and within the parenthesis is a logic statement followed by when true do this else that (with the "else that" portion optional as shown above). The drawback to using a local variable is that every report you write must be customized with the local variable versus establishing this logic in a "case" statement when building the data mart and thus it becomes resident and usable like any other column of data in your database. In some cases you are forced in using it as a local variable due to variations in the data and the logical outcome is not known until the very end of all computations, and at other times you can get away with embedding the logic at the time of constructing your data mart -- it all depends on how the data is used and sliced and diced. Good luck and write back if you have any further questions.

• Error when embedding a formula field in a text box in a subreport

I am rewriting an application that merges data from a .net application into a Crystal Report template and displays it in the application. In VS2003, I have had no problems with the reports as they are written. In VS2010, I get an unusual error on some reports with subreports.
In one report I have multiple subreports. In those subreports, I have formula fields. If I take one of those formula fields and embed it into a Text Box and attempt to generate the report through the application, I get the following error:
This field name is not known.
Details: errorKind
Error in File Confirm {20564DCB-5CA4-4832-8931-DF1CC6C54784}.rpt:
Error in formula optionStrike:
'{Command.OPTIONSTRIKETIME}'
This field name is not known.
Details: errorKind
If I take the very same field out of the text box and put it directly on the report, the report will generate without error.
In the case above, OPTIONSTRIKETIME is a string field. This rules out any conversion errors from a date/number/etc to string for the text box.
Has anyone else encountered this error? If so, what can be done to avoid it?

Hello,
Thank you for the info.
Which driver are you using for the dataset?
