Newbie import HEADACHES!

Hi everyone,
I am trying to import some stuff from jar files...
First i set the class path to all the jar files using autoexec.bat but still i got compile time errors on import...
Next what i did was copy all those jar files that were needed and these were: mail.jar, activation.jar,xerces.jar & soap.jar to the lib/ext directory in jre. Now when i com piled it gave me no errors but when i run it i get a new
error; exception in main and it further states that "a certain class is missing" or something simmilar...
Does any one know why?
All the classes that i need to import are in the above jar files... i have all the jar files... what am i doing wrong ?
Thanks.

Jar files that you mention did you set the class path ot them specifically or just to the folder with them in it?
I believe that if you are going to use the library path structures in your Jar files, you must set each Jar file in your class path individually.
ie: Set ClassPath=(What ever);c:\mystuff\myJarfile.jar;c:\myotherstuff\anotherJar.jar

  • Newbie: Importing imovie to idvd

    Hello Everyone,
    I am a new mac user and therefore, a new imovie user. i have created a photo slideshow in imovie(it is about 25 minutes long with many transitions and cued music) and ultimately want to burn it to a dvd. earlier this year i created a slideshow and a friend helped me with finalizing it in idvd. unfortunately his work schedule is very busy, so i am hoping someone here can help me out. here are my questions:
    1. Should I export the project to quicktime and then send it to idvd? that is how he proceeded with the last project, because he was concerned about the cued music. or can i just proceed to idvd?
    2. once i send it to either quicktime or idvd, will the project still remain as in it's final form (prior to adding themes, etc.) in imovie? just in case i have a problem exporting it, i do not want to have to start all over again.
    Hopefully that makes sense...I am ready to export it, but i am leery of risking the whole project. thanks so much!

    Hi nu2mac07 and welcome!
    Once you have finished editing, adding transitions and music, the iMovie project is ready to be transferred to iDVD. There is no need whatever to export it to Quicktime first, which can be very time consuming.
    The best way to do this is:
    Save your iMovie project and close iMovie.
    Open iDVD and give the project a name. Now go to File in the menu bar and down to Import.
    Select Video and your iMovie folder will appear. Select the iMovie project you were working on, and it will appear in iDVD, ready for you to add a theme etc.
    The iMovie project will appear in iDVD exactly as when you last saved it.
    Do NOT (ever!) delete the iMovie project until you are satisfied with the final product: a DVD burned in iDVD. Just in case something, or even you, go wrong somewhere!

  • (newbie) Importing/Exporting proxy service configurations?

    Hello,
    I'm new to AquaLogic and am going through its tutorial right now. I have a question: After I create a proxy service's flow chart going through all the configuration effort listed here[1], I would like to transfer this proxy service to another AquaLogic instance without needing to enter all this information manually in again.
    Is there a way to save perhaps an XML representation of the proxy service (something that specifies all the configuration rules I entered) that I can the subsequently upload into another AquaLogic instance--or another way I can move a proxy service from one machine to another without needing to manually reconfigure it each time?
    Thanks,
    Glen

    Hi Glen,
    I don't know the workshop way (ALSB3.0 only) but here is the console way:
    On the main page of the console, go to "System Administration" on the bottom left side.
    At the top of the list, you now have your import/export options. Click export. I like to use the "Export Resources" instead of "Export Projects" as it gives you more freedom when importing.
    Create a session in your target domain and do the import.What you can also do which I think is rather good, is create a
    customisation script for each of your environments to change endpoints
    etc. It's a bit of a confusing xml file at first, but it works really well.
    Once you've a service deployed, you can export a customisation file also
    from the system administration options.

  • Newbie : Imported graphics are in a fixed area...

    I've created a Photoshop file that is 4000px * 500px
    I want to simply pan this over my video with some transparency effect.
    But if I scale and rotate my graphic it is always cropped to the same horizontal box that it imported as.
    Like it's being viewed through a letterbox window or cropped area.
    What have I missed please?

    Hi Jim,
    No, I don't want it conformed to my imported tiff graphics (and there will be a lot more of these various size graphics to import too).
    I want the project to stay as DVCAM or HDDV-720i, etc and for the graphics NOT to conform to their size but the main projects window size (without scaling too).

  • IPhoto Newbie Import Question

    Okay guys, this is my first full day with my new MacBook Pro coming from decades of PCs and iPhoto has me completely stymied I've browsed through the posts here and have read a few but ended up even more confused, so...
    I transfered my photos and images to my Mac's Pictures directory. Later, I launched iPhoto and agreed to let it scan my disc for images to import into iPhoto. It found all my images and placed them within iPhoto.
    1. Are these iPhoto images duplicates of the originals I transferred into Pictures or just "references" to the actual images in Pictures? (iPhoto organized them using the same folder names I used in Pictures.)
    2. If I have Photoshop Elements, is there really any reason for me to use iPhoto? It's structure is just so baffling compared to the apps I'm used to working with. It's obviously a very popular app with you Macophiles--I'm trying to appreciate it but haven't found out it's secret yet.
    Thanks!

    1. Are these iPhoto images duplicates of the originals I transferred into Pictures or just "references" to the actual images in Pictures? (iPhoto organized them using the same folder names I used in Pictures.
    If you’re using iPhoto in the default configuration, then yes, they are duplicates, and you can trash the pics you brought into your Pictures Folder.
    Just don’t do it today... leave it a while until you come to understand iPhoto and have confidence in it.
    2. If I have Photoshop Elements, is there really any reason for me to use iPhoto? It's structure is just so baffling compared to the apps I'm used to working with. It's obviously a very popular app with you Macophiles--I'm trying to appreciate it but haven't found out it's secret yet.
    Elements is an Image Editor, iPhoto is a Photo Organiser. You can use them together becuase they do different things.
    The most obvious reasons for using iPhoto are:
    1. It’s almost limitless flexibility in organising your photos.
    You can put your photos into folders and what do you have? Folders. In iPhoto you can create albums of your photos. A single photos can be in 1, 10 or 100 albums while using no extra disk space. So - An Album of Vacation Photos: Easy, same as a folder. Now, an Album of your favourite Vacation Photos. Or Just your favourite photos. Add keywords into the mix and ratings and the possibilities are endless. I use keywords and Smart Albums exensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
    Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
    Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 20k library in a couple of seconds.
    So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
    Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
    Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
    add Rating is greater than 4 stars
    The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
    Keywording takes time to set up, there's no doubt about it. I use Keyword Manager as it's much more powerful than the inbuilt system, and adds the possibility of nested keywords. So, for instance, if I add John to a photo it also adds 'Family'. Now I can add many keywords to a pic quickly.
    In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.
    Of course, with all your files in Folders you have... files in folders.
    2. Integration throughout the entire Operating System. Your Photos are available from Every Open... dialogue, from media browsers and so on.
    3. Very easy to Back Up.
    4. You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
    There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
    This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
    If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
    Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    Regards

  • Newbie Import Question - Shooting 4K with Panasonic GH4

    I'm shooting 4K with a Panasonic GH4 and  would  like to know what file format is best to import and edit - AVCHD, .MOV or MPEG4, etc.
    Any guidance welcomed
    Thank you - Ross

    David,
    Thank you for the response.
    Yes, I'm a novice and I'm using FCPX because I'm serious about the whole process /craft / art form and want to learn as much as possible and want as professional a result as possible. Good tools to begin with and now working on skills.
    I'm shooting 4K and then will be down-resing to 1080 which is what most folks (pros and otherwise) seem to be doing with the Panasonic GH4 4K footage. Lot's more detail in edited video than shooting 1080 to begin with.  Also using 4K to help with when using one camera - I can punch in, use other parts of the frame for close-ups. etc.
    My budget is not unlimited but I'm doing this for the business I own and my own pleasure so I'm making an investment in my business and myself. I've been shooting with a GH2 for awhile as well as Canon XF100s. I really enjoy the whole process and shooting industrial videos - instructional, educational, information mainly for my business.  I've paid my dues learning the business that I'm in now and know that education that can jump start the process is really beneficial. The learning curve is a bit steep but I am trying to learn as much as possible from others, my own mistakes and my occasional wins with beautiful images.
    Anyone in LA, Ventura or Santa Barbara that shoots with a GH4 and editing with FCPX?

  • Newbie Importing Vector work from photoshop

    A friend of mine asked me to make a design that will be cut out by a laser cutter.
    I work faster in Photoshop than Illustrator, so I made the design in photoshop using all vector elements (text and pen tool). From photoshop, I did "save as" and selected .eps and preserve vector data. The eps files look ok when I open them in Illustrator, but the laser cutter store says they are not vector data and they can't use them to cut.
    Is there any way to get a usable eps or ai file from my psd files? I would love some help

    Just to update the topic. Beth sent me a file.
    You were there Beth
    You had it, but just weren't sure what to look for. After releasing the clipping masks there were 3 or 4 of them right around the edge of the artboard. Often when opening a Photoshop-generated PDF these full page masks exist. Because they overlapped each other, after releasing them you only saw the black rectangle. If you had deleted all of those you would have only seen vector paths in Outline Mode and that black rectangle would have been gone.
    After that, it was merely a matter of selecting all, fill with black. Then go through the circles you had and make those compound paths by selecting the inner and outer circle, choose Object > Compound Path > Make and finally changing their color.
    That's all there was to it.

  • Newbie import problems with Canopus ADVC300 - solid pink screen

    Plugged in the brand-new Canopus ADVC300 and connected up a Sony CCD-tr700 analog camcorder. Did all the recommended steps and pushed the start VTR button. Preview on both the Canopus Picture Controller software and the iMovie screen has good audio, but the video is a solid, non-moving screen of pepto-bismol pink.
    There's nothing in the very limited manual about what to do if the video doesn't appear after the four simple step instructions.
    Any suggestions from knowledgeable users will be GREATLY appreciated.

    Just an initial suggestion: did you remember to switch the Canopus to analogue input? It has a tendency to default to digital.

  • How to Expand a Movie Clip

    Hi,
    I want to expand a MC (talking about the size) from the
    middle.
    To be more clear.
    I have a mc with these properties
    _width : 100
    _height : 100
    _x = 50
    _y = 50
    I want when I use a rollover function, to change its
    properties like this :
    _width : 200
    _height : 200
    _x = 50
    _y = 50
    The _x and _y have the same values just want to change the
    _width and
    _height.
    And of course, I would like to the tween effect.
    How to do this with actionscript ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Stan

    Hi Dave,
    I ve tried your bit of code, it seems that it works.. but, as
    you ve
    mentionned if I want to expand from the center I have to set
    -50 to _x and
    _y..
    In fact, I don't know how to do it.
    Here's my code. (it's not pure :-) I m a newbie).
    import flash.filters.ColorMatrixFilter;
    import mx.transitions.Tween;
    import mx.transitions.easing.*;
    System.security.allowDomain("mydomain");
    var startScale = 100;
    var endScale = 200;
    var speed = 10;
    this.createEmptyMovieClip("my_mc",10);
    my_mc.createEmptyMovieClip("container_mc",99);
    var mcl_obj
    bject = new Object();
    mcl_obj.onLoadInit=function(target_mc:MovieClip):Void{
    target_mc._height=86;
    target_mc._width=115;
    target_mc._x=100;
    target_mc._y=100;

    0.3,0.59,0.11,0,0,
    0.3,0.59,0.11,0,0,
    0,0,0,1,0 ];
    var myColorMatrix_filter:ColorMatrixFilter=new
    ColorMatrixFilter(myElements_array);
    target_mc.filters=[myColorMatrix_filter];
    target_mc.onRollOver=function(){
    this.filters=undefined;
    this.onEnterFrame = function () {
    if (this._xscale < endScale) {
    this._xscale += speed;
    this._yscale += speed;
    } else {
    this._xscale = endScale;
    this._yscale = endScale;
    delete this.onEnterFrame;
    target_mc.onRollOut=function(){
    this.filters=[myColorMatrix_filter];
    this.onEnterFrame = function () {
    if (this._xscale > startScale) {
    this._xscale -= speed;
    this._yscale -= speed;
    } else {
    this._xscale = startScale;
    this._yscale = startScale;
    delete this.onEnterFrame;
    var my_mcl:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
    my_mcl.addListener(mcl_obj)
    my_mcl.loadClip("mydomain/image.jpg");
    PS :
    The image that I load from the loadClip has a size 640x400
    pixels.
    That's the reason I resize it to 115x86
    My need is :
    Display the image with a size of 67x50 Pixels and when the
    rollover is
    active expand it (from the center) to 115x86.
    Any help ??

  • Slow Applet

    this has got to be one of the simplest applets, yet it takes over 10 minutes to run the second part.
    here's the source
    (done in netbeans, I'm a newb)
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.applet.Applet;
    public class gpaApplet extends java.applet.Applet implements ActionListener {

    TextField[] ta = new TextField[num];
    remove(number);
    remove(sub);
    setLayout(new FlowLayout());
    add(ta[0]);
    }this is not all of what i plan to do with it, but i need this to work in order to do what i plan to do. after it removes the textfield and the button (number and sub), it takes 10 minutes+ (i never waited to see how long it takes, all i know is that its still trying after the 10 minutes but still hasnt displayed anything to the screen) to display just 1 textfield from the array.
    when i dont use arrays, and i just make 1 textfield and display it (after removing the textfield and button) it takes about 2 -3 minutes to display the textfield,
    i've tried it on 3 computers, one of which was a 3 ghz machine with 1 gig of ram. so i dont see why its soooo daam slow
    can someone please help me solve this problem?

    ok, now the problem arises here. i need to make the "num" number of textfields, based on whatever is input (i'll add that code later, after i get this to work).
    so how do i make as many textfields as i want? i tried putting a "for" loop within...
    TextField[] ta = new TextField[] {
    //for loop goes here
    }i tried putting that loop in there, but it would not allow it. gave some kind of error.
    so my question. how do i make as many textfields as i want, based on the number that the user enters.

    }i dunno how and where to implement the paintComponent( ) in this situation , please help me... and im also having another problemin the saveFile( ) method in the can class, it doesnt increment the naming of the file if it already exists...
    please help me...

    Hey, there were a few design issues in your code so I hope you dont mind me re-coding a few section of it to bring out the usage of the paintComponent(Graphics g) method.
    Also, the save was not working correctly because of the localization of the variables count and filename. I moved them and them global it to work. Also you had to re-create the file instance in order for it to be saved correctly with the new name.

  • Newbie mistake, but I can't find it, help appreciated on XML import

    I'm sure I'm making a newbie mistake but I can't find it. If someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong I would appreciate it.
    Step one works (i'm logged as user xdb on the database):
    SQL*Plus: Release 10.1.0.2.0 - Production on Wed Dec 20 13:47:53 2006
    Copyright (c) 1982, 2004, Oracle. All rights reserved.
    Connected to:
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
    With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining options
    SQL> Declare
    2 ignore boolean;
    3 begin
    4 ignore :=dbms_xdb.createFolder('/datamart');
    5 ignore :=dbms_xdb.createFolder('/datamart/CustomerCare');
    6 ignore :=dbms_xdb.createFolder('/datamart/CustomerCare/xsd');
    7 ignore :=dbms_xdb.createFolder('/datamart/CustomerCare/xml');
    8 commit ;
    9 end;
    10 /
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    Step two works, where I drag and drop via Windows Explorer my xsd file into http://d01db:8085/datamart/CustomerCare/xsd. It has a size of about 7k or so. Again, when connecting to the respository with Windows Explorer, I'm logging in as xdb.
    Step three works, where I register the schema that I just put into the XML repository. Still logged into SQLPlus as xdb.
    SQL> begin
    2 dbms_xmlschema.registerURI
    3 (schemaURL => 'http://xmlns.oracle.com/xdb/Steton.xsd'
    4 ,schemaDocURI => '/datamart/CustomerCare/xsd/Steton.xsd'
    5 ,genTables => true
    6 ) ;
    7 end;
    8 /
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

    Step four is where I have problems. I'm using Windows Explorer to drag and drop an XML instance document into http://d01db:8085/datamart/CustomerCare/xml while logged into the repository as xdb.
    Here's some of the test file that I'm using.
    <?xml version="1.0" standalone="no"?>
    <StetonAuditResults xmlns:xdb="http://xmlns.oracle.com/xdb" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://xmlns.oracle.com/xdb/Steton.xsd">
         <Control>
              <ResultCount>112</ResultCount>
         </Control>
    </StetonAuditResults>
    Note, the test XML file is 427k in size and I can't post it here. There is a lot of data between the </Control> tag and the </StetonAuditResults> tag.
    During the Drag and Drop I get the message "An error occured copying some or all of the selected files."
    My first suspicision was that the XML document failed validation. So I changed the namespace line to
    <StetonAuditResults xmlns:xdb="http://xmlns.oracle.com/xdb" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="H:\StetonCustomerCare\Steton.xsd">
    I then started Altova's XMLSpy and the XML document is well formed and it validates.
    I then changed the namespace line in the XML document to
    <StetonAuditResults xmlns:xdb="http://xmlns.oracle.com/xdb" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
    and I could use Windows Explorer to drag and drop the file into the XML DB respository of http://d01db:8085/datamart/CustomerCare/xml, but this version doesn't shred the XML document into the SQL tables that I need.
    I then deleted the file from the repository.
    I then changed the namespace line in the XML document to <StetonAuditResults xmlns:xdb="http://xmlns.oracle.com/xdb" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="Steton.xsd">
    because someone told me to, and because I have seen an FAQ in this forum suggest this approach. I can copy using Windows Explorer into the http://d01db:8085/datamart/CustomerCare/xml. However, the file size via Windows Explorer is 427kb. Also "select count(*) from STETONAUDITRESULTS;" returns zero.
    What am I doing wrong?
    My background, I'm not an Oracle DBA, but I can code SQL select statements. So if I need to do something involving Oracle DBA privileges, please document it well. I will have to get the DBA's involved.
    My goal is import this XML file so that I can use it as a feed for a datamart. The first XML file in text format is 27mb.
    Thanks again for reading this far.

    I guess you have a namespace issue...(schema registered is not the same as the layout in your XML instance/doc, therefor will not be inserted). You have access to the XDB account...thats all you need (more then enough, i mean, you don't need dba privs).
    on the FAQ Mark explains...
    Why is the size of my XML document 0 bytes when viewed via HTTP or FTP ?
    Posted: Sep 1, 2006 6:07 AM in response to: mdrake in response to: mdrake
    When a schema based XML is loaded into the XML DB repository via HTTP, FTP or dbms_xdb.createResource() the document is converted from a textual serialization of XML into a series of objects. At this point the size of the document becomes (a) meaningless and (b) difficult / expensive to calculate.
    The first question is what is meant by the size of the document once it has been stored using object-based persistence ? There are two possibilities
    (1) The number of bytes used the text serialization of the XML document.
    (2) The number of bytes required to store the internal object representation of the document. In this case the does the size include the bytes used for keys, refs indexes, etc ?
    Since (1) would be expensive to maintain as the document is updated (particularly in the case of partial updates) and (2) is expensive to calculate on a document by document basis, XML DB shows the size of all schema based XML documents as 'zero' bytes.
    Note that this also applies to the size of the registered version of XML Schema documents, which can be found in the folder tree /sys/schemas.
    If a schema based XML document is loaded into the repository and does not appear as 0 bytes long when viewed via HTTP or WebDAV this means that XML DB was unable to identifiy the XML schema the XML document is associated with.
    Note that immediatlely after uploading a document in Windows Explorer using the WebDAV protocol the size of the document will be non-zero, since the original size is cached by the Microsoft WebDAV client. However once a refresh of the folder is performed in Windows Explorer the size should be shown as zero if the document was recognized as a schema based document.

  • Newbie question : import statements

    So, i'm a complete java newbie trying to make his first swing application, a basic calc. I download NetBeans 6.5, install it, and begin to code. I quickly learn about the Matisse GUI editor, find it very easy to use, and in a couple hours, the work is done and runs very fine.
    But looking at my code, I realize I have forgotten all import statements (like import javax.swing, import java.awt.event ....), nevertheless the application runs fine. I suppose then that the Netbeans compiler automatically corrects my mistakes, but I want to do it right.
    So, I write the import statements explicitly in my code and I get a warning message : "import unused". After that, I find out about the "fix import" tool in Netbeans, use it and all my import statements disappear. I guess i'm missing something here.
    I thought import of swing classes were mandatory to write a swing application. I have NO import statement in my code, even if I'm using jFrames, jButtons, event handlers and the program works fine, why ?
    Would I be able to compile this importless code in another environment (let's say Eclipse or even javac) ?
    I'm using JDK 1.6 and Netbeans 6.5 with Windows XP.
    TIA

    Ok, thanks for the answers, and sorry for my misinterpretation of BigDaddyLoveHandles's first post. I understand now, the import statements are useful only if you don't want to write full class names, and the generated code uses full class names so no import needed.Please also understand BigDaddyLoveHandles's latest post. If you learn to code Swing with NetBeans' Matisse, then you will be learning Matisse, not Swing. When it comes time to try to tweak or upgrade your program, you will be lost. Better is to learn Swing from the ground up by going through the Sun Swing tutorials. Though having said that, if you are very new to the language, better still is to learn the fundamentals of Java first before embarking in the murky waters of GUI programming. Best of luck to you in your endeavors.
