Newbie need help in compiling sample code

Hi,
I know this is a very newbie question.
Could someone please help me out on how to compile the sample code?
[root@localhost getting_started]# gcc -I/usr/src/db-4.7.25.NC/build_unix gettingstarted_common.c example_database_read.c
/tmp/ccMnYv8b.o: In function `open_database':
gettingstarted_common.c:(.text+0xeb): undefined reference to `db_create'
gettingstarted_common.c:(.text+0xfc): undefined reference to `db_strerror'
/tmp/ccMnYv8b.o: In function `databases_close':
gettingstarted_common.c:(.text+0x513): undefined reference to `db_strerror'
gettingstarted_common.c:(.text+0x565): undefined reference to `db_strerror'
gettingstarted_common.c:(.text+0x5ba): undefined reference to `db_strerror'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
Thanks alot.
JB

Hi,
I tried:
[root@localhost getting_started]# gcc -I/usr/src/db-4.7.25.NC/build_unix -L/usr/src/db-4.7.25.NC/build_unix -ldb gettingstarted_common.c example_database_read.c
/tmp/ccaHcwAy.o: In function `open_database':
gettingstarted_common.c:(.text+0xeb): undefined reference to `db_create'
gettingstarted_common.c:(.text+0xfc): undefined reference to `db_strerror'
/tmp/ccaHcwAy.o: In function `databases_close':
gettingstarted_common.c:(.text+0x513): undefined reference to `db_strerror'
gettingstarted_common.c:(.text+0x565): undefined reference to `db_strerror'
gettingstarted_common.c:(.text+0x5ba): undefined reference to `db_strerror'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
But it still does not work.
Any idea?
Sorry for the newbie question.

  • Newbie needs help on compiling error

    I'm reading java 2 programming for dummies, but can't get this example working. I get an error on line 4, but when I remove 'public' from in front of 'class', Iexplore tells me I need a public constructor. I also get errors on line 94 and 98 where the compilator says that the java.awt.Component has been deprecated. I have no clue what that means..
    Please help me! I'm stuck...

    OK. You do not need to worry too much about the deprecated messages. They are only warnings and will not stop the program compiling.
    What is the name of the java file that your code is in. It should be PixApplet.java
    How are you compiling it, something like
    javac *.java or javac PixApplet.java
    What is the error you get when you try to compile

    I'm in need of SDK and sample codes to connect my HP Deskjet 3525 Printer from my own application (Android). Any help from your side???

    Hi Yokesh,
    I would suggest you post your question on Android Forums. HP supports printing from Cloud Print,  Eprint and a few others but we would not have any support options for an app you have created. Maybe you could contact the platform company for assistance. For example if you were using Apps maker store you could contact them.
    Best of luck.

    Need help with a activation code for Adobe Acrobat X Standard for my PC, Don't have older Version of Adobe Acrobat 9, 8 or 7.

    You don't need to install the older version, you only need the serial number from your original purchase. If you don't have them to hand, did you register? If so, they should be in your Adobe account. If not you really need to contact Adobe, though it isn't clear they will be able to do anything without some proof of purchase etc.

  • MacBook - Newbie: Need help on printing wirelessly to XP shared printer

    MacBook - Newbie: Need help on printing to XP shared printer
    Bear with me please. I read tons of articles on this but somehow as a newbie to MAC (girlfriends sick daughter), I am missing something. 10.5.2
    Currently, she can print directly if we plug in the HP Deskjet printer directly via USB to the MACBook. No problem.
    When we first got the MACBOOK I tried setting up the MACBOOK wirelessly to recognize the workgroup where the printer was attached via USB to the Windows XP PC. However it printed out garbage since I did not know there was a difference between XP printing and MAC (Gutenberg/gimp printing/drivers).
    Now I know there is a difference.
    But in reading various instructions, I no longer can find how to connect the MAC to the Windows workgroup. Note we do have a printer set up currently as USB-HP Deskjet on the Macbook (not sure I need to delete it yet).
    I went to System Preferences on MACBOOK and clicked on printers, more printers. In the drop down box was CANON, APPLETALK, IP HP printing and Firewire. There was no WINDOWS selection as I saw in other online web instructions.
    So not sure how to proceed to find a way to:
    1. Connect to Windows workgroup (click on what exactly), step by step please!!
    2. Add correct HP Deskjet 5490 printer (perhaps there is one with Gutenberg or perhaps I need Gutenprint-really not sure what I am talking about)
    Thanks so much in advance. Fiancé's kid has had her cancer recur in a different place and someone was nice enough to buy her a MACBOOK as a gift.
    Sincerely
    Peter

    OK...I figured it out...no need to reply.  I noticed that there was another Protocol to use to set up the printer on the Mac, I was using LPD, so I switched it to HP Jet Direct-socket, and it prints fine...thanks.  I am curious as to why LPD wouldn't work; if anyone has that answer I would like to know...thanks
    Any chance of posting the Protocol you used to connect to your printer with your laptop?  I'm have the exact same problem printing from my MB.  Same error message "..is busy".

    **like whats does "thread scroller" means? Looping purpose? what's looping then?So, you don't know what a variable declaration is, and you don't know what looping is, and you're unable to find out other than by having somebody here tell you (your school has no library, no bookstore, and no access to google--only to the Java forums).
    Either your school is absolutely backwards and useless, or you're a stupid lazy git who deserves to fail the course. Either way, somebody here posting an answer for you is not going to help you.
    The following might.
    Sun's basic Java tutorial
    Sun's New To Java Center. Includes an overview of what Java is, instructions for setting up Java, an intro to programming (that includes links to the above tutorial or to parts of it), quizzes, a list of resources, and info on certification and courses.
    http://javaalmanac.com. A couple dozen code examples that supplement The Java Developers Almanac.
    jGuru. A general Java resource site. Includes FAQs, forums, courses, more.
    JavaRanch. To quote the tagline on their homepage: "a friendly place for Java greenhorns." FAQs, forums (moderated, I believe), sample code, all kinds of goodies for newbies. From what I've heard, they live up to the "friendly" claim.
    Bruce Eckel's Thinking in Java (Available online.)
    Joshua Bloch's Effective Java
    Bert Bates and Kathy Sierra's Head First Java. This one has been getting a lot of very positive comments lately.

    I am new to Java and am having problems and I am in need of some help. I have written the code for my Mortgage Calculator but do not know how to get my chart to work. I found an example of the chart code in my text book but I am not sure if I wrote it wrong. When I run the MortCalc code it compiles but the Pie Chart code won't. I tried to run the chart code by itself but it prints out another calculator. My question is 1.) Is my chart code written wrong? and 2.) How do i enter it into my MortCalc code so that I get my chart?
    **Below I have included the assignment(so you know what I am doing exactly) and below that the pie chart code just in case you have questions. Thanks for any advice you can give.
    **If you need the rest of the code I can post it too. It was too long to post with the pie chart code.
    Assignment:
    Write the program in Java(w/ a GUI) and have it calculate and display the mortgage payment amount from user input of the amount of the mortgage adn the user's selection from a menu of availible mortgage loans:
    --7 yrs @ 5.35%
    --15 yrs @ 5.5%
    --30 yrs @ 5.75%
    Use an array for the mortgage data for the different loans. Read the interst rates to fill the array from a sequential file. Display the mortgage payment amount followed by the loan balance and interest paid for each payment over the term of the loan. Add graphics in the form of a chart.Allow the user to loop back and enter a new amount and make a new selection of quit. Please insert comments in the program to document the program.
    CODE:
    import java.awt.Color;
    import java.awt.Graphics2D;
    import java.awt.Rectangle;
    //Class to hold a value for a slice
    public class PieValue {
    double value;
    Color color;
    public PieValue(double value, Color color) {
    this.value = value;
    this.color = color;
    // slices is an array of values that represent the size of each slice.
    public void drawPie(Graphics2D g, Rectangle area, PieValue[] slices) {
    // Get total value of all slices
    double total = 0.0D;
    for (int i=0; i<slices.length; i++) {
    total += slices.value;
    // Draw each pie slice
    double curValue = 0.0D;
    int startAngle = 0;
    for (int i=0; i<slices.length; i++) {
    // Compute the start and stop angles
    startAngle = (int)(curValue * 360 / total);
    int arcAngle = (int)(slices[i].value * 360 / total);
    // Ensure that rounding errors do not leave a gap between the first and last slice
    if (i == slices.length-1) {
    arcAngle = 360 - startAngle;
    // Set the color and draw a filled arc
    g.setColor(slices[i].color);
    g.fillArc(area.x, area.y, area.width, area.height, startAngle, arcAngle);
    curValue += slices[i].value;

    // Draw each pie slice
    double curValue = 0.0D;
    int startAngle = 0;
    for (int i=0; i<slices.length; i+) {
    // Compute the start and stop angles
    startAngle = (int)(curValue 360 / total);
    int arcAngle = (int)(slices.value * 360 / total);Look here and i think you will find some syntax errors.
    Count the brackets.

  • Need help determining compiling error

    Good morning,

  • Newbie needs help with Flex app

    Hi there. I am very new to Flex and also fairly new to
    programming although I do have a little experience.
    I am trying to create an app which stores code snippets or
    common text I tend to use every day in my documents and emails.
    So basically I need help on a design level. I can refer to
    the developer's manual for exact instructions for commands, but I
    need to know what to code first.
    The app will consist of:
    -a tree directory structure where I can create groups.
    -There will be a basic text editor where I input all my data,
    basic text formatting options (font, bullets etc) would be a bonus.
    -A search function
    -Finally it will ideally allow multiple client apps write to
    a central database file over a network
    Can anyone suggest how I should approach such a project?
    Or are there any tutorials / source files which demonstrate
    each bullet point?
    thanks.

    Hey jono,
    I'm new too. But I think I might know the right components.
    If you google any of these + flex 3 you should get some
    decent documentation
    tree - advanced dataGrid component
    basic text editor - rich text editor component
    search function - well, you're gonna need to read up on
    arrays, and arraycollection. Once you get that stuff working, you
    can write up a function to search for a string in an array.
    network functionality - HTTPService, you can dump the
    datagrid into a database, and have it load the database when you
    open up the application.
    Give these things a shot, tutorials / sources will come with
    the google searches.

    it wouldn't run for me, until I changed these lines
    contentPane.add( title1 );
    contentPane.add( title2 );
    contentPane.add( title3 );
    contentPane.add( title4 );
    SpringLayout layout = new SpringLayout();
    contentPane.setLayout(layout);
    to these
    contentPane.getContentPane().add( title1 );
    contentPane.getContentPane().add( title2 );
    contentPane.getContentPane().add( title3 );
    contentPane.getContentPane().add( title4 );
    SpringLayout layout = new SpringLayout();
    contentPane.getContentPane().setLayout(layout);
    then it worked OK, smaller frame on top (the one with the info), larger frame behind.
    both above all other windows
    made it into a .jar file (in case IDE influenced above) and ran the same way
