Newbie Question about downloading and installing Firefox

Hello,
I recently downloaded Firefox 2.0.0.3, got it all set up and used it for a while, I am the admin on this machine, my wife is the only other user, I logged in to her acct to make sure that FF was there, but it wasn't?? Thought maybe I should reboot, after the reboot, no firefox on my acct or hers! Completely disappeared, can anyone give me a clue as to what might be going on?
Thanks in advance,
oldhoghead
cheers

Common n00b mistake (joking about the n00b remark)
It looks like your running the program (Firefox) from the mounted dmg file. When you download Firefox, (and many other apps) it downloads as a .dmg file. Now, you probably have dmg files set to mount automatically when downloaded which is OK. You are probably launching the program from that mounted dmg file which is not OK. Here's what you need to do:
After the dmg file mounts, instead of double clicking it, drag it to your Applications folder and launch it from there. That's it. Oh, it'll also be available to all your machine's users as well.
Good Luck.

  • Have an imac with snow leopard and Firefox 3.6.13. On a prompt downloaded and installed Firefox 3.6.16. Firefox opening Screen still shows 3.6.13. Have done this twice with the same result. Any help?

Imac, processor Intel core i3, Mac OS X version 3.6.6.
On opening Firefox 3.6.13 firefox screen suggests downloading latest version. Have downloaded and installed Firefox 3.6.15 (sorry typing error in previous entry). On opening Firefox, screen still shows 3.6.13 as the operating version although "Get info" shows that updating has been done. Thinking I may have made a mistake I have done this twice with the same result. The screen is still telling me to update.
Not really a problem using Firefox but I would like to know which version I am using.

Your user agent in the More system details list shows that you have the Firefox 3.6.15 version
    *Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.15) Gecko/20110303 Firefox/3.6.15
Where do you see "3.6.13" ?

Is your Windows Vista 32 or 64 bit?
To find out if your computer is running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows, do the following:
Open System by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.
Under System, you can view the system type.

  • I need to download and install firefox to my D drive. How do i do this as i'm not given a choice?

i am out of space on my C drive causing me to run disk cleanup several times a day and then can only gain right at 200MB. I need to download and install a fresh copy to my D drive but i am not given an option on where to download or install to. How do I download and install Firefox to drive D?

You need both SP1 and SP2 to be able to run Firefox. <br />
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/23.0/system-requirements/ <br />
And getting rid of SP3 probably isn't wise from a security standpoint.
Have you looked through your "data" to see what '''''can''''' be moved over to the D:/ drive? Also you should consider moving the Windows TEMP files over to the D:/ drive.
Also, with WinXP it is a good idea having at least 15% of each logical drive "free" so that the Defrag service can be run; TEMP files cause the most fragmentation on the drive.

  • Downloaded and installed firefox on windows XP, firefox wont start

downloaded and installed firefox on windows XP, click on firefox icon and nothing happens!

Also to be sure you need at least Windows XP Service Pack 2 if not 3 (XP3) as Firefox since version 13.0 will not work on XP1 or older.

  • Downloaded and installed Firefox Sync, restarted and now can't find it.

Downloaded and installed Firefox Sync on XP SP-3 computer. Restarted Firefox as instructed. Can't find Firefox Sync. Nothing popped up on restart as instructions stated.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == After Firefox Sync downloaded

After a bit more pecking around on the phone I found it under the personalize, View all HTC widgets screen.
Thanks though for the quick response and pointing me in the right direction.

  • How do I download and install Firefox 6 instead of the latest version (I'm currently running 3.6.23)?

I don't want to update to the very latest version of Firefox because I'm using a Learning Management System for my online master's program that doesn't currently ensure compatibility with the latest version of Firefox. It only ensures compatibility up to Firefox 6 right now. How do I download and install Firefox 6 instead of the latest version? I'm currently running Firefox 3.6.23.

Firefox 6 is no longer supported and the usage of such versions that have known security vulnerabilities is not recommended.
You can install the portable Firefox 3.6.x version to access websites that do not work with Firefox 5+.

  • I am trying to download and install Firefox 4. 0. 1. The download works, but what I am supposed to do to install it? If I shut down and re-boot I am prompted each time to download the same update. Thanks - PM

Firefox prompts me that I need to download and install an update. This I do, and it downloads, but I don't know how to install it. This might be happening automatically, but when I shut down and re-start, I get the same message about installing the same update. Unless I can resolve this, I will have to return to Internet Explorer... What can I do?

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop and close Firefox.
    *Firefox 10.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • I download and install Firefox 4, but when I restart my computer, it reverts to v. 3.5 something. How do I make the new version stick?

Firefox kept trying to update v. 3.5.?.?, usually failing. So, I went to the website, then downloaded and installed v. 4. But, when I restart my computer, it reverts back to the old version, loses bookmarks added while using v. 4, and again tries to update v. 3.5. When I look in the folder which contains Firefox, "properties" says I have v. 4, even though what is appearing is not.

  • Newbie question about downloading files

Is downloading extra updates, music, etc, risky for your phone, in regards to glitches? Does adding too many applications slow things down?

Anything can cause a glitch these days. Always do some research before downloading and installing something.
You can have many apps installed but, running all of them can slow it down a bit.
Make sure you close your apps when done.
Music should not affect it if stored on the memory card but when you play them it will scan all the files for changes and that might take a bit if you download a lot at once.

  • I close Firefox and Firefox 5 install keeps saying "close Firefox application" How can I download and install Firefox 5?

I HAVE CLOSED FIREFOX 4 AND WAS STILL UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE CHECKING OF CURRENT FILES AND INSTALLING MY DOWNLOADED FIREFOX 5. WHAT DO i DO NOW OR HOW CAN i RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM, OR DO I JUST STAY WITH FIREFOX4?

Unless you had problems with an update, one
method would be starting with Firefox 4 to use
"Alt" > Help > About Firefox > "Check for update" or "Apply Update".
You can have updates automatically checked and
wait for your approval or install them through
    Tools > Options > Advanced > Updates
Or to instead use your download, if that is what you actually
have. "Ctrl+J" to bring up downloads, start the install,
then when the install starts bring down Firefox with
File > Exit or the "Firefox" button > Exit, and use
the Task Manager's Process tab to make sure Firefox.exe
if not running -- also make sure the plugin container is also
    not running. then
When reinstalling Firefox from a download, Firefox must be down once the installation starts (already mentioned). When the installation finishes, don't let the install start firefox for you. Instead end the install and start Firefox in your normal manner, thus preventing creating a new profile which does not have your bookmarks cookies, etc (but your old profile would still be around and would).

  • What is the offline method of downloading and installing Firefox?

I'd like to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox. The catch is, I only have a dialup connection, so online installation is not an option. It would take hours -- or even days. (And I'm charged by the minute.) Is there an offline way to install Firefox where I don't need to remain connected to the Internet? There used to be a manual download option for Firefox. That's how I obtained the version I have now. I used a public access place to download the executable file, took it home on my thumb drive, and then installed Firefox using this file. I looked around the site but couldn't find this manual download option anymore. Or am I missing something here? I'm sure there still are people like me out there. Any help would be appreciated. I'd really like to try the latest version. Thanks in advance.

It does not download additional components, it contains all of the Firefox files.
The Mac file is much larger because it contains the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Firefox.

  • Since downloading and installing Firefox 3.6.16, Firefox crashes when clicking on certain e-mails in my inbox. I need help.

I installed v. 3.6.15 on 3/21/2011. Since then Firefox crashes when clicking on random e-mails in my inbox. I am running v. 10.6.7 on my iMac which I installed on 3/29/2011. I am running Java v. 10.6, Update 4, which was installed on 3/10/2011. My Adobe reader was just updated to v. 9.4.3. My iMac desktop is not quite 2 years old. When this problem occurs, everything clears off the screen. I get a message "Firefox quit unexpectedly. When I click on 'Reopen', I get the message: "Well, this is embarrassing. Firefox is having troubl recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page. (Don't know what that means) There are no 'Crash ID(s), because everything disappears from the screen. Could someone send instructions via e-mail on what to do?
