Newbie question: ksld not finding my symbols

platform: sparc, command line version of ksld
I have followed instructions connecting with tip, /proto directory structure and misc link in my driver source directory.
I have copied the driver.o to /proto.
ksld_kadb: module -v driver.o
unable to locate driver.o
Any ideas?

Correct, I am using Forte 6, but the soldc ksld Article points to a list to compilers that can be used:

Of course, the link could be wrong in regards to the stab.
If no one else has a idea/comment, I will start to pry Forte 5 out of Sun and see if that works.

[newbie] [error] Could not find the main class

This program does not compile on the command line, however they run within Eclipse 3.4.2 IDE. JDK does not seem to be installed in the usual path under C:\Program Files\Java..jdk, however I have installed the following which I presume should include the jdk:

Newbie question: Edits not showing up in execution

I'm doing some long distance tutoring for a friend. She's a beginner and is just learning Java and is using an IDE for the first time. I'm an experienced CP/M/DOS/Windows programmer and I've used IDEs before. But I've only just installed Sun ONE 3 aka Forte for Java CE, so I'm not intimately familiar with this particular IDE.
This is a very simple one-file, one-function toy program that she's writing for an assignment at school. We have a situation where when she edits the file and executes it, the changes are not showing up. We've tried putting in simple "we made it here" output at the beginning of the routine and it never shows up. If her code has syntax errors then the compiler does display an appropriate message, so it is being compiled. It's just never executed.
She sent me her source file and it's working fine here.
Again, this is long distance, so I haven't been able to search around in her IDE to try to figure out what's different between her environment and mine. And I haven't been able to duplicate the symptoms here. My suspicion is that we have a setting in the project that's running a different compiled module than we just edited. But I don't know where to look to find out if that's what it is.
Anyone have any ideas? Can anyone give me some suggestions to try to track this down? Or maybe some pointers to the appropriate sections of the documentation that might apply to a situation like this?

She's definitely picking up a different class file. Is she compiling to a different directory than the source directory? If so, turn this off, close the IDE, and clean up all classes in the source and destination directories.
Also, check and make sure that she doesn't have the same source file mounted under two different filesystems. For example, don't mount directories like this:
c:\myproject
c:\myproject\src
This is a general issue and should be avoided--it can cause duplicate entries for the same physical file.
If all else fails, have her delete her user directory, and be sure that all class files have been deleted from your source directory. The location of the user directory can be found in the Help > About dialog.
I wish I could offer more specific assistance.

Newbie question: dataOfType not being called

Hi, I'm new to Cocoa and GUI programming. I'm working my way through the Hillegass book, and I'm trying to do the challenge at the end of chapter 18. It involves saving, which was covered earlier in the book, but for some reason I can't get "dataOfType" to work. I've put in a NSLog line at the beginning, so I know the method is not being called when I save. I have it as a method of the MyDocument class, but I haven't done anything special to it. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get it to be called? Did I miss a link in interface builder?

NewBe question - Effects not exporting to disk

Hi,
I've been experimenting with GB. I have a Video with with an audio track that is very low. I imported the video into GB selected instrument with the audio on it. then on the info window clicked on edit and added the AUGraphicEQ to work bring up the levels. I have it sounding okay in GB. However when I go to share >> export to disk >> full quality, the output is the same as the input.
I have also tried to turn off the track effect and apply it to the master, same result. I also tried to perform some effects on a jiggle track and export and mp3 with the same result.
Basically I cannot figure out how to get the effects I hear in GB to become an output file.
Any direction or thoughts are appreciated.

Normally the effects should be on the exported audio file. Are you sure that they are not applied? Or is the level just too low? Try to turn off the auto-normalize feature in GB's preferences.

Why does a search not find the symbol ~, Why does a search not find the symbol ~

I thought that having a common name like Jim would make it harder to search for recent comments. So I added ~ after my name to refine the search. Did not work. Searching for Jim~ turns up every Jim in the universe. Any ideas? Flawed logic? Conspiracy theories? Dislike for names not begining with X? Boolean logic is not one of the classes I took in high school.

I am using Oracle 10gR2 64-bit on Linux 64-bit. I am trying to connect to an MSSQL box on Windows. I know that hsodbc is officially not supported on 64-bit OS.
My connection using freetds works as well from unixODBC (verified by tsql, isql). The problem is in the next layer up - hsodbc. I copied it from a 32-bit Linux box as it was 0 bytes on 64-bit box.

You didn't explicite mention it, but I assume you are using a 32bit ODBC driver?
The SQLAllocConnect function is built into the ODBC driver manager which is refered in your case as: /usr/local/lib/libodbc.so
- check out this library exists and has sufficient permissins to be loaded by the Oracle user
- check out this library is 32 bit
- check out this library contains the SQLAllocConnect symbol

Can not find symbol

i am wrting a bean which has methods and i am passing that bean
object to the method of another class but when i compile the second class i get the error can not find symbol and the method name of bean
which i want to acces in second class.

i a using Role.java bean in RoleManager.java the files are as follows
and when compiling the RoleManager.java i get the above error by showing method getOrderby() can not find symbol

Can not find symbol error

I have imported javax.swing.*; and I have a listener for my JList box but when I say impliments ListSelectionListener the compiler says can not find symbol. Can anyone help me on this?

ListSelectionListener is part of the javax.swing.event package, which is not the same as the javax.swing package.
