  • I would like some help in determining the proper structure/implementation

I would like some help in determining the proper structure/implementation for the following scenario:
I have ~10 steel rods that have been equipped with a strain gauge.  The most I would have is ~30 steel rods.
Each setup has had a 10 point calibration done.
These steel rod/strain gauge setups are assigned a calibration number.
The data would be grouped for each steel rod and identified by the calibration number.
I would like to use that calibration data to determine the Young’s Modulus for each steel rod and store that within the specific rod’s information.
I want the user to be able to add new steel rods dynamically and the Young’s Modulus calculated and stored with it.
There are two different types of rods.
The cross-sectional area of the rod needs to be stored and that value is constant based on the rod type (so there are two different area values).
After a rod’s calibration data is entered the first time, the data should be static so it doesn’t need to be re-entered.
The user would enter the cal#, the 10 point calibration data, and the rod type.
The user will only see the steel rod cal# on the FP.
I am using a queue-based producer/consumer with event structure for the front panel interface.  So I’m thinking whenever a rod cal# was added I would call a subvi where the calibration data can be entered and then the Young’s Modulus could be calculated and stored.  An option to edit/review existing cal data should be available.
    LabVIEW 2010, Win 7.
    My initial idea was:
Rod Arr – array of clusters:
    Rod Info - cluster:
    Calibration number – string
    Rod Scale cluster:
    mV/V – double array
    force – double array
    Young’s Modulus – double
    Rod type – enum
    Cross-sectional area – double
I have not implemented this because I’m not sure how to implement that AND keep the data after it’s been entered.  And all of the bundling/unbundling anytime I want to access/edit any rod information can be BD consuming.  I thought a lookup table might work.  When I looked on the forums for a lookup table I was pointed in the direction of arrays/clusters.
    So I have two questions:
What would be the best structure for the steel rod data?
What would be the best data type for the calibration# that the user can edit (enum, ring, ?)?

I would make a couple of small change to your proposed data layout (highlighted in blue):
Rod Arr – array of clusters:
    Rod Info - cluster:
    Calibration number – string
    Array of Rod Scale cluster:
    mV/V – double
    force – double
    Young’s Modulus – double
    Rod type – enum
    Cross-sectional area – double
For the calibration data, I would have an array of clusters rather than a cluster of arrays.  IMHO, this makes it easier to index through the calibration points, and makes it less likely you will ever have a situation where you don't have the same number of mV/V and force points.  I'd also move the Young's modulus, type, and area info into the Rod Info cluster.
I prefer to store this type of configuration in the system registry, but that is more complicated and far from universal in the LabVIEW world.  A simpler way would be to simply pass the entire array to the "write to binary file" function.  If you do this, however, you might want to add a version number, otherwise it will be very difficult to maintain backwards compatibility if you ever need to change the data structure.
As far as the control type, it depends on what the user is entering.  If the user is mostly entering calibration numbers already in the system, I would use a (system) combo box.  This allows the user to select an existing calibration number from the menu, but also to enter a new calibration number if they need to.  If the user will almost always enter new calibration numbers, then I would use a standard string control.  Either way, you'll probably want to validate the format of the number the user enters.

Good afternoon, I would like some information I have an ipod nano 6th generation and has the same one-year warranty is only 2 months of use, and it fell down and broke the glass of the display, I called technical assistance in Brazil and informed me that Brazil has no repair services for Apple, which was the basis of its price change in the exchange is not worth half the value of the product.
I wonder how I do to change this device without the expense of 50% for the same product is in warranty?
    Thanks in advance.

yes agree, plus a multinational seeing a product and has no technical assistance to do the maintenance then it's no use I buy a new product if it is damaged I will always be because it has no prejudice in this maintenance.
sorry but even more products coming from China to Brazil in technical assistance.

There's no reason to install a smaller hard drive. In some cases, it may decrease performance.
Your MacBook Pro comes with a 5400 rpm hard drive, so what you can do is to install a smaller, 7200 rpm hard drive, so you will get a better performance. Any 2'5" SATA hard drive will work, but you can have a look at OWC for hard drives > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
HGST and Seagate hard drives have a good reputation, so you can purchase one of them

  • To whom it may concern, Since I have downloaded the Firefox update for my phone. I have not been able to copy and paste. I would like some info on this. Thanks

With the previous version of Firefox for my mobile phone it had the gingerbread copy and paste system and now I am not able to do so at this point. I just want to know how to copy and paste with the new update version of Firefox for my mobile phone. I have a Samsung Infuse. I would like some input on this. Thank you and much appreciated.

Sorry, the new user interface in the latest update did not have selection/copying of text ready in time for its release. We're working on adding it back for an upcoming version very soon. If you'd like, you can already start testing it in our [https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android#Download_Nightly nightly development builds].

I would like to use touchsmart but know nothing about it and would like some training.

The machine comes with a large number of tutorials that you can learn with.
Between that and the documentation that it ships with you should have more than a few days of new things to learn.

  • I have a mac, would like to upgrade to mountain lion from mac os x, anybody experienced any problems after this upgrade, thanks

i have a mac, would like to upgrade to mountain lion from mac os x, anybody experienced any problems after this upgrade, thanks

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) model number 2,1 or higher
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Xserve (Early 2009) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again.  You can make a bootable DVD/USB stick to install using this free program.
Bootable Drive DVD or USB Flash Drive – Lion Diskmaker
Our 2 computers haven't experienced any significant problems, even though others have. I find it much better than 10.7 Lion, which I used for a week before reverting to 10.6.8
Mavericks is supposed to be released this fall, so you may want to wait.

  • Newbie..I would like to create a page in IWeb

That I could use to attach to an online ad a free standing mini page with a picture and additional info for advertising purposes. Is this the best application to create this? Anything I have created with the iweb templates 1) I cant seem to locate a SAVE AS (same thing in Iphoto after I may do some minor editing) and 2) It seems as though whatever I am creating within the templates are for publishing live only. I have a web site already..I just want to create kind of a mini one page with photos and text that I can use kind of like a giant jpeg..if I could figure out how to add movement and music(HTML code) that would be a bonus but one step at a time for me,,the newbie.
    Thank you!!!!

Wow thank you those are amazing..I will play around with them and I am assuming at the end whatever I have created can be saved as .jpeg or.img as I believe these are the only acceptable formats approved for some of the locations I would like to place them on.
Thanks again for taking time to reply

  • I would like some answers

My wife and I have been with Verizon Wireless for roughly 7 years, we currently pay approximately $270.00/month on our account and I am ready to switch to another carrier and no one from Verizon seems to care.  My wife has used the same phone for the last four years (because she gave her last upgrade to one of our children), now the phone it dead, it won't hold a charge and getting it to charge is impossible.  Her upgrade is due March 17, 2014 and we have been trying to get it upgraded early for the past week.
We originally went to the local Verizon store and asked them if they could help, they tried to sell us some "Edge Program" were we pay full price on a phone and have the cost spread over 24 months.  After we declined that program the staff seemed to be offended and became rude and told us there was nothing else they could offer.  We then went to a non-direct store, the staff there was nice and called Verizon customer service twice trying to get the upgrade moved up, twice he was told nothing could be done.  The non-direct staff member told me to call *611 and speak with customer service myself, which I did.  I spoke with "Shamele" a customer service rep, he advised that since we were within 30 days of our upgrade he could approve it but we would have to return to the Verizon direct store in order to get the phone.  By that point my wife and I were tired and frustrated and did not want to return to the other store due to the manner in which we were treated the first time we visited them.  We decided to return home and see if we could get her phone to make it the 17 days till her upgrade was official.
It was working till this morning when her phone officially died, as mentioned above we cannot get it to charge. My wife called *611 again and spoke with "Danielle" another customer service rep.  Danielle was courteous and told my wife she could only have an early upgrade if it is within seven days of her official upgrade date.  She also advised my wife that Shamele, the first customer service rep I spoke with, placed a note in our record indicating my request for an early upgrade and his reply that it would not be available until March 10, 7 days prior to our official upgrade.  From my recollection of the phone conversation, this is not what I remember. I would like to know who I need to speak with to have my record and phone conversation with Shamele reviewed?  If it is found I misunderstood the conversation I apologize in advance for any inconvenience I have placed on those doing the investigation.  If it is found Shamele misrepresented our conversation, I hope that he is dealt with accordingly.
I would also like someone to explain why it is so difficult to get an early upgrade, keeping customers happy should take precedence over selling a discounted phone 17 days early.  It has been a frustrating experience and more than once my wife and I have discussed switching carriers.  Your feedback is appreciated, thank you for your time.

You can get an upgrade up to a week early at a Verizon store. Unless your previous phone was an iPhone. At some point Verizon has to have a firm cut off date in which early upgrade are not allowed. You say "just 17 days" well the someone will want one "just 18 days" early then 19 the 20 etc etc. at what point does that stop? You can get an upgrade in 2 days. By the way if you go to another carrier they won't let you upgrade 17 days early either. Also you can upgrade anytime you want if your wiling to pay full price for the phone which is the future anyway. Subsidized upgrades will be going away within a few years if not sooner. T-Mobile started that trend and the other carriers will soon follow.

First format the drive to OS X Extended (journaled) with ownership set to be ignored:
Next drag your iPhoto library from your Pictures folder to the EHD.  When the copying is complete launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and in the window that comes up select the library on the EHD:
Check the file path under the window to make sure the correct library has been selected.
Once you've confirmed that the EHD library is working properly and has all of your photos you can delete the library in your Pictures folder.

    Meg-
I had to go out of town for a family emergency. I really want to get an iPod but the first 2 I had I broke and could never figure out how to get the songs on the iPod. it seems some songs I purchased fro iTunes will download and play but some will not I would like to know all the places I can get songs to play on my iPod (well, when I get one tat will work for me). I have a lot of CDs, should I get them on iTunes first. Do I look for other type of songs in various formats to install in the iPod like…oh, what are some of the formats that music can be downloaded in? mp4 all the various types I am sure you know what I am getting at.
I want the classic but I am nervous being an exerciser. I do not care for videos but if the classic allows one to play them that is OK.
I would like you to look at this ear plug store online that sell to artists for their recording, heavy duty iPod users, runners, etc. I need an awesome ear plug that will take the music to the next level but I have no idea what type will be best for me.
Let me see if I can find that website. It was something like earphone Solutions but it might not be the exact one. They have a lot of the same ear plugs.
But back to what iPod and where I can get the music. That is what I need help with ow. I do not want to pay for whole CDs, but songs that are good to workout to.
If you get a chance and look at tat ear plug website and give me your opinion on ear plugs. This is where I am lost but need a much better ear plug and one that will stay in my odd shaped ears.
Thanks for waiting. I am still with my pops in the hospital most of the time but I will get back to you.
    Blessings

  • Would like some help converting an array of strings into multiple parsed string arrays

    Hello everyone.
this is a very novice question and I sincerely apologize for that, but i need some direction!
i have an array of strings:
    (('J01',), ('0', '0', '0', '1'))
    (('J02',), ('0', '1', '0', '1'))
    (('J03',), ('0', '0', '0', '0'))
    ect...
i would like to know what are some of the best ways to gain access to this information (aka, parse it). The field lengths are not static and all those ones and zeros could very possibly be two digits at times (0 = off state, 1-100 = on state), so simply pulling characters out of a given position of the string will not always work.
what i would like to achieve is to make either separate arrays for each desirable element, eg:
    array one:
    J01
    J02
    J03
    array two:
    0
    0
    0
    array three:
    0
    1
    0
    and so on.
or maybe even a matrix (if that’s feasible).
other than that I am totally up for suggestions!!
    thank you very much,
    Grant.

Assuming fixed structure (not necessarily length of the different numbers or names).

  • I would like some info on external hard-drives. :)

    Hi there.
Now before I arrive to my question I would like to point out that I am (basically) clueless when it comes to computer hardware and that kinda stuff, so don´t make fun. I would also like to say (reluctantly admit) that I am currently using an acer aspire computer with the worst keyboard imaginable; I have to crush the keys for them to be activated, so pardon me if some letters are missing. As an example I will type this message: 'Happy new year! Hope you have a great one! What will Miley Cirus do this year?' without crushing the keys, just typing as though I were using an apple keyboard. 'Happy new year! Hope yo hve a gret one! Wht will Miey Ciru do ths year?'. Yup. Don't like PCs.
So I have a few questions about external hard-drives. I am buying a 13 inch macbook pro 128GB of RAM (The newest model). I choose this one for maybe an obvious reason: It's the cheapest one, but I want and need a lot of storage for my movie-making and photo-editing. So I thought 'Gee why don't I buy a 1TB or 2TB external hard-drive?'.
    Question number 1:
How does an EHD (External Hard-Drive... Sorry each word typed with this keyboard is torture) work? Is it like a usb flashdrive? You connect it via usb or firewire and a disk thing appears on your desktop?
    Question number 2:
What happens if I disconnect it? (by accident)
    Question number 3:
Which one should I get? I would rather not get one from apple since they're so expensive, but I'm looking for a 2TB one, preferably on amazon.co.uk.
    Thanks a ton!

    Yes.  That is correct.

You may corrupt the data that is on it.  You should always disconnect the external device properly by dragging the icon to trash.

Any SATA HDD will be compatible.  I suggest that you get one that is powered by the MBP.  That affords maximum flexibility.  Amazon is a good source.
