Newbie under pressure...

Dear forum users,
a few weeks ago I happened to crash into JBOSS, Seam and EJBs by being officially declared as the guy responsible for the implementation of an installation-process and licensing of our new product, which is currently developed with the components mentioned before. I used to code in PHP, Perl and Bash for a couple of years now, and I once wrote a few C++ lines. So Java isnt a complete new world for me, albeit somewhat like the land behind the coasts I once saw... ;)
As the possibilities around Java and JBOSS are that multiple I hope that some one here could give me a poke in the right direction.
The product:
Our product is a web application which needs access to a MySQL-database and a SMTP-server. So quite rudimental for the moment. Both, database and mailserver access are configured in XML files outside the product.ear-file.
Installation:
So, what I currently have is:
- a EAR-file
- two XML-files
I need to implement is a command line process which runs on Windows as well as on Linux. I think that I would end up after the two XML-files at the moment. The virtual host, webserver port etc. are configured INSIDE the EAR-file.
How would you implement such a process? Unpack, edit the files and repack the application? Or is there a smarter way?
Licensing:
I suppose I should be counting on 3rd-party software here like http://www.smardec.com/products/license4j.html. Am I wrong?
Additional:
Last year I installed JIRA standalone for evaluation and I was pleasantly surprised how fast I got it up and running with an embedded webserver. At least, Id prefer a standalone version of our software if there is a practical way to put an JBOSS-application into standalone practice. Does anyone know how the JIRA standalone is structurally implemented? How did they do it?!
Any suggestions or links to tutorials would be greatly appreciated! :)
Thanks alot
Dennis

Seems to me your build process should be able to handle this. Have one build for your EAR and another one for the standalone process. You could conceivably deploy the EAR exploded and simply have your standalone process reference the JAR files within. However, there are additional benefits to the two-track build. First, you can have common components in both (EAR and standalone), model components in both, web components only in the WAR that is deployed in the EAR and batch components only in standalone. Yes, it takes up a bit more disk, and yes, there is a bit of up front cost to making a more complicated build, and yes, builds might take longer. But you get a nice clean separation that may in the future help modularize your application even further. (Or you can go a completely full-blown modularized route like OSGI, but that has a learning curve).

That is up to you. However, if it is a server app, then I am unclear why you want to secure it this way.

There are docs on JBoss on how to deploy this way.

  • Printing a JPanel (Under pressure)

I am trying to print a JPanel on which i have displayed information using drawString(). This works grand as long as the inforation all fits on one page. The problem occurs when i have too much information to display and it doesn't fit on one page. I thought that it would print the rest one different pages but this does not happen. Only the information that fits on the first page is printed.
I'm wondering is there some way of printing over multiple pages.
Any help would be really helpful.
    Thanks.

Have you checked out the following webpage? Its from Manning's Swing book tutorial on building a word processor and theres a chapter on printing. It certainly helped me:

  • Amarok: breaks under pressure

When there is a high cpu load, amarok  starts skipping, and sometimes it skips 20 seconds of the song... This never happened with BMP.  It does the same with both the gstreamer and arts engine.  Any ideas?  Does this happen to anyone else?
    I'm using kde btw.

My experience with amaroK 1.0 CVS version (I had a problem and built it myself) - output engines
    1. gStreamer (alsasink) = ~38% CPU usage
    2. gStreamer (osssink) = ~10% CPU usage
    3. xine = ~6% CPU usage
    4. switching back to the previous version I found out that arts uses also ~6% (I couldn't find the arts engine in the CVS version)
P.S. I'm using arts in KDE with real-time priority, one more reason for not to feel any interruptions during playback (when compiling for example).
I'm currently using the xine output plugin (using a CVS snapshot). I've tried researching on the CPU usage problem but I came to the conclusion something might be wrong with my gStreamer (btw, the package is flagged out-of-date) (mp3 codec problem) or with my ALSA drivers. I haven't tested with oggs.
I'm using kernel 2.6.7-ck7 (I've built it some time ago but didn't test its responsiveness - I have several kernels installed for testing)

  • Hi, I really need help with Adobe Bridge and am under a deadline (of course!)

Adobe Bridge is refusing to open for me. I've been using the CC for over a year now and have had no problems. I'm using it on a Mac Book Pro OS X 10.9.3.
I'm working in Indesign and no matter I tried Bridge would not open. I've tried force quitting it and restarting, checking for updates but nothing has worked so far.
Please can anyone help, I'm really under pressure to meet a print deadline?
    Many thanks,
    Sarah

    Hi Omke,
Thanks for your help. I really appreciate you taking the time. Unfortunately it didn't solve my problem, however I was chatting with customer support and they were able to see it is a technical issue, so now its just a matter of contacting the technical support office when it opens.

  • Pages DTP questions from a newbie

Hello. I'm new to Pages 'page layout' but have used other low-end DTP products on Windows (Serif's PagePlus was pretty good). I'm under pressure to complete a document but can't seem to figure some things out. I hope someone can help with these questions.
    1. Is it possible to 'autofit' text into a text box. With a fixed document I find it difficult to fine tune the last page so that the text and images fit OK. In other applications I think the software was able to fine tune the font size so as to include all the text of to avoid clipping a word or two.
    2. Can I permanently 'lock' design and text elements together, so that they will always move, and maybe even change size together. At least I'm thinking of e.g. a photo with its caption. I know I can select both and for that time move them together, but I can't see a way to make that relationship permanent. Can I permanently lock them together? Can I 'lock' a complete page?
    3. Is it possible to use a 'reference' to an image held elsewhere on my hard disk? Ideally I'd like to be able to have my Pages document reflect changes (e.g. colour adjustments) to the master source image. For example in Serif PagePlus it would only 'embed' images below a certain size, and bigger images were just 'linked' to in the master DTP document.
    4. Is there any Apple or third-party application that can convert a Pages DTP document into a web page?
    Thanks.

1 and 3 I fully understand, but I'm not clear about your explanation in 2. For example if I place a photo in a layout and then add a caption beneath it, are you saying that there is some way I can 'lock' them so that they behave as a unit?
Probably a limitation on my side, but I don't seem to understand what you want to do :
    1) are you asking if a frame with a photograph and a frame with a caption for the photograph can be grouped, and that the grouped frames can be automatically moved if more material is added above the group in continuous single column mode (wordprocessing mode), or
    2) are you asking if the frame with a photograph and the frame with the caption for the photograph can be grouped and can be automatically moved if more material is added above the group in discontinuous multiple column mode (layout mode)?
The problem lies in the way the problem is posed, so to speak. While you would want (1) because in continuous single column mode there is no concept of fixed co-ordinates for frames, you would not want (2) precisely because in discontinous multiple column mode there are fixed co-ordinates for frames.
A story that starts in a frame on page 3 might skip page 4 and continue in a frame on page 5. If the positions of the frames you defined did not preserve their fixed positions, the concept of flowing copy from one frame/column to another frame/column would not work.
There appear to be problems in Word for Macintosh 2008. If I understand the MacWorld review roughly right, and I may not have done so, then the behaviour is still that of wordprocessor when the application is used in layout mode, and that would have to be a bug (not that Pages does not have its fair share of those, of course).
"The first time I ran into any limitations in Word was when I started to add floating objects—such as pictures and callout text around which text flows. For starters, its image-editing tools aren’t very good. More significantly, when I changed a column of text, the floating objects in it refused to stay in place. Instead they moved around as if tied to the text they were originally placed next to, destroying my layout. If I selected all the text in a document and deleted it or replaced it with text from the Clipboard, floating objects within the original text disappeared, too. In other words, if you make any major changes to a document after inserting floating objects, you’ll probably need to completely re-create your layout."

  • Back pressure due to version buckets: Exchange 2013

    Hi,
My setup is Exchange 2013 CU5 on Server 2012 fully patched running on vmware 5.1 fully patched. The server supports around 50 users, has 16GB of memory, a 16GB page file and fast disk access to dedicated disks on a SAN. My vmware host has 96GB of memory
and around half is in use.
A few times today we got MSExchangeTransport warnings about resource pressure relating to 'version buckets' around the same time someone sends a large attachment (around 40MB). We have generous sending limits at 50MB due to the nature of our work.
    The full message is...
The resource pressure increased from Normal to High.
The following resources are under pressure:
    Version buckets = 330 [High] [Normal=80 Medium=120 High=200]
Physical memory load = 93% [limit is 94% to start dehydrating messages.]
The following components are disabled due to back pressure:
Inbound mail submission from Hub Transport servers
Inbound mail submission from the Internet
    Mail submission from Pickup directory
    Mail submission from Replay directory
    Mail submission from Mailbox server
    Mail delivery to remote domains
    Content aggregation
Mail resubmission from the Message Resubmission component.
Mail resubmission from the Shadow Redundancy Component
The following resources are in normal state:
    Queue database and disk space ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Queue\mail.que") = 58% [Normal] [Normal=95% Medium=97% High=99%]
    Queue database logging disk space ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Queue\") = 58% [Normal] [Normal=95% Medium=97% High=99%]
    Private bytes = 4% [Normal] [Normal=71% Medium=73% High=75%]
    Submission Queue = 0 [Normal] [Normal=2000 Medium=4000 High=10000]
    Temporary Storage disk space ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Temp") = 58% [Normal] [Normal=95% Medium=97% High=99%]
Task Manager shows memory usage at 90% (14.4GB of 16GB)
We recently migrated from Exchange 2010 (with 8GB memory) and had no issues with back pressure.
I ran get-messagetrackinglog to cover a few minutes either side of this event being logged. There were around 150 entries. A single email was over 40MB in size. There were also multiple lines showing the same email, which does not reflect in the users mailboxes
(for example a single autoreply was sent from one user, but the get-messagetrackinglog showed 11 results). I have posted a question about this here also...
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/6425aa7a-4957-487e-ad7c-6aec5fe50379/getmessagetrackinglog-multiple-results-for-single-email?forum=exchangesvradmin
If a single large email caused the back pressure to kick in how can I prevent this happening in future? I don't want to simply limit my attachment size (as mentioned this was fine on Exchange 2010 and 2003 before that)
I checked EdgeTransport.exe.config and noted the following default entries
    <add key="DatabaseMaxCacheSize" value="512MB" />
    <add key="DatabaseCheckPointDepthMax" value="384MB" />
    <add key="QueueDatabaseLoggingBufferSize" value="5MB" />
    Would increasing these help?
Lastly, I have read this article (http://eightwone.com/2011/04/06/limiting-exchange-2010-sp1-database-cache/) and wondered whether it would be beneficial to implement a limit on the database cache? If so, what should I be aiming at for my setup? And is this
relevant for Exchange 2013? (I don't see a performance counter for Database Cache Size Min, or Max under 'MSxchange Database')
    Advice greatly appreciated.

Found this in a different Exchange forum; worth reading.  This thread was marked as answered.  Good luck.

  • Exchange 2013: Back pressure event

    Hello all,
yesterday evening we had a back pressure event in which the 'Version Buckets' HIGH threshold was violated and the mail flow ceased for about 15'. Trying to better understand why this happened we discovered that around that time the eventid 15004 was logged,
a large message (around 87MB) was sent to the server from an application and heading to a specific external recipient.
What I cannot comprehend is how this message (if...) produced all this since there are message size limits (the defaults, 35MB) and by my logic it should never reach the transport circuit - could someone please elaborate? my scope is to ensure this is not
happening again. Below follow the event logs:
The resource pressure increased from Normal to Medium.
The following resources are under pressure:
    Version buckets = 177 [Medium] [Normal=80 Medium=120 High=200]
Physical memory load = 87% [limit is 94% to start dehydrating messages.]
The following components are disabled due to back pressure:

    Temporary Storage disk space ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Temp") = 55% [Normal] [Normal=95% Medium=97% High=99%]
The resource pressure increased from Medium to High.
The following resources are under pressure:
    Version buckets = 295 [High] [Normal=80 Medium=120 High=200]
Physical memory load = 87% [limit is 94% to start dehydrating messages.]
The following components are disabled due to back pressure:

    Temporary Storage disk space ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Temp") = 55% [Normal] [Normal=95% Medium=97% High=99%]
    And finally this:
The SMTP availability of the Receive connector Default was low (98 percent) in the last 15 minutes.
** Did a Get-eventlog for 15004 and this has never happened before in the past.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Jsof,
According to your description, I recommend you use tracking log to find out why the large message reached your exchange transport circuit. It appears to be the root cause of back pressure event.
The following article for your reference to understand message tracking:

  • Itunes skips when processor is under high preasure

I realise there is only a finite amounth of processing power, but I don't have any problems on an exactly the same computer at work. Is there any way of giving Itunes more priority over the other opperations in progress.
    Kind Regards
    Tony
    HP   Windows XP

I am afraid this can be an intractable for some people.
If you are not on the latest iTunes, upgrade. I never got 7.0 to run without skipping under pressure, but the latest vesion is fine for me. Also make sure you are upto date with your drivers.
Apple offers this general help on playback issues:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610
Some virus checkers seem to cause problems, briefly disabling checking to see if this makes a difference is worthwhile. Exclude iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Muisc Library.xml if disabling virus checking helps. Mostly virus checking causes symptoms around tack change over.
If you have an identical PC at work that is OK, it might be worth looking for differences in set up.
A simple thing to look at which is a real long shot is: right click My Computer:
    Properties>Advanced>Performance>Advanced.
Processor scheduling and Memory usage should be set to programs.
I don't want to get into the virtual memory side as it is outside my experience.
Good luck, but I am afiad this can be a difficult one.

  • Need advice on repairs after wine spill - won't boot

Trying to help a friend fix her MacBook Pro 17" mid-2009 laptop.  A fairly small amount of wine was spilled on the keyboard and it was turned off, however not knowing what else to do they used canned air to dry it out.  They did not turn it upside down so wine could have been blown deeper into the laptop.  She took it to a repair shop and they apparently cleaned it but said the upper assembly containing the keyboard needed to be replaced.  It powered up once after this incident but never got passed the start scene with the Apple logo.  Since then it won't power up.  My question it this... is the power button integrated with the keyboard assembly and possibly damaged?  Would buying a used keyboard assembly fix the problem or could there be more unseen damage.  Any ideas will be appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hi everyone,
I've been using forums like this one looking for advice on what to do, expect and what not to do when faced with a spillage on your mac and I appreciate everyone's stories and advice from their experience so, I'll gladly reciprocate.
So, I spilled soda pop on my macbook air recently. It was about 2/3 of a shot glass full of diet root beer in the upper right hand corner. I was completely devastated. I thought: "not only would this be a unnecessary and expensive waste of money, but all of my intake files were on that Mac and I'll lose literally thousands of dollars in potential sales if my data is corrupted too!"
Under pressure, I succumb to the two newbie mistakes that almost every newbie makes. First, I froze.  Completely. "Maybe is the liquid didn't make it's way into the system? - it really wasn't that much.." I then waited to see what would happen (stupid). The Mac shut off. In a panic, i switched it back on (STUPID) and a blank white screen appeared with a text in the middle. the first paragraph was in english and read "There was a problem attempting to turn your device on … etc, etc". There was a paragraph beneath it written in Chinese or Korean characters. Then, mac shut off again. I frantically ran down stairs to get a bag of rice. I return to our room and, in a panic, i wanted to try turing on the macbook one more time before dumping it in rice (very STUPID). My Mac was working and I was thrilled (for about 5 minutes). All of a sudden, my keys strokes stopped registering, everything froze and it shut down. I did not turn it back on after that. I closed it and quickly flipped it over to let it dry and attempt to save it's life. About 30 seconds later, a motor like noise emanated from the Mac. It started quiet and then quickly got louder and louder. It got so loud that it sounded like the fan was screaming (i've never heard it that loud before). Then, it quickly simmered right down. I THEN submersed it into a rice coffin.
I was so upset, I had so many potential customer intakes on that device and, due to the volume i get on a daily basis, didn't back it up. I made sure rice got in every visible crevice without actually opening up the device. 3 hours later, I put my ear up to the back of the mac. I could hear a faint motor hum still active in the device (like the normal sign it makes when it's on). I though "ok, ok… that's a good sign right?!". It's about that time where I started surfing forums likes these to have a better idea of how to handle this, what to expect and shared/common signs from others experiences that indicate damage has been done.
I kept it closed, tipped over and submersed in it's rice coffin for 37 hours until I took it to the Apply store. All great new and I had the best possible scenario happen to me
The tech said there were no signs of any liquid damage in the system (not even the spill detectors picked it up) and that it's running perfectly fine.
    So, to recap:
    1. I spilled 2/3 of a shot glass full of diet root beer in the upper right hand corner of my Macbook Air (where the power button is.
    2. The computer shut itself down.
3.I tried to turn it back on twice. Once right after and I got blank screen with text saying it's experiencing difficulties trying to start - then it shut itself off. A second time, I attempted to turn it back on 10 minutes later and it ran smoothly for 5 minutes then, keys stopped registering, the computer froze and shut itself off again.
    4. Mac let out a very loud scream and then the sound died down (but still lightly hummed for hours later).
    5. I closed it and turned it upside down (with the shell closed).
    5. I submersed it in a bag of rice (I made sure it got into every possible visible crevice).
    6. I left it in it's rice coffin for 37 hours.
    7. Took it to the Apple store - and turns out it was perfectly fine and there were no fees!
I'm also really impressed with Apple. It would have been so easy and profitable for them to take advantage of the situation and at least charge and assessment fee - but they didn't. It was completely free. They even replaced one of my screws before sending me off. Apple is honest and respectful with their customers! it if it's broke - they really don't "fix" it like a lot of these other mainstream stores who sell computer repair services. Apple, you rule in so many ways. You know what you're doing as a business and are owning the market for it. Great service and great products Apple.
So that is my spillage story, hope you all find it as usefully as I found your stories (these forums gave me the idea to use rice and it worked!).
Wish you all good luck with your macbook spillage issues. Don't be so quick to write it off as a loss just yet

  • Photoshop CS2 Tools Keep Disappearing.

Can you hear me cursing and screaming from where you are sitting? I've had two unrelated problems the past few days, and as a result  have been totally stuck!!!
The most recent problem was  my inability to log  into the Adobe website at all.  It did not recognize my  user name and insisted my password was incorrect. But when I had  Customer support e-mail them to me, they were exactly what I had been using.  As a result, I was unable to  reach the forum to ask for help.
Same thing happened today, until I finally gave up and changed the info in my account. Then before I even had a chance to test them, I was logged in. Sure would like to know what happened there.
Meanwhile, I've been struggling with disappearing tools in Photoshop. I first noticed the problem several weeks ago, when the tools disappeared  after each individual action, requiring that I return to the widnow menu and reactivate them.
But it finally came to a head yesterday, when the tools did not show up at all after I clicked on them in Windows. All I could see was the small rectangle at the top of the  tool box, which links to an ad for CS4. Couldn't reach the forum yesterday, so I started Googling for help; found a couple of suggestions and somehow managed to rest the tools. Was feeling pretty proud of myself for  figuring it all out  . . . until today, when the same thing happened. But since  I was basically just pushing buttons yesterday, I couldn't replicate the solution.  Tried removing  the preference files  and clicking on reset tools, all to no avail. Then wasted 2 more hours trying to login for help.
sure hope my neighbors couldn't hear my shouts and screams.
I know  you guys can help me. Please don't let me down.

Very true. You'd think as much as they charge people for their software,
they'd give a better (free included) help and tutorial than they do. I have
Creative Suite 2, purchased new in 2006 and they already no longer support
it,  and won't hardly give a decent answer about it. Kind of have to find my
answers  from techie guys, forums, guess work, etc. I've had CS4 offered to
me for free,  but turned it down. I hope some of the competition gets far
enough ahead of the  game to take some of their market share...because all
Adobe is interested in is  the bottom line...big business, etc., not the little
guy in the trenches. Of  course, there is more available if you have a Mac.

I should  have made a note of how I achieved that — but all I remember is
finding   a screen that asked if I wanted to restore  all the tools to
default.  After a few tries, I finally was successful and  have  been
    trouble-free ever since.
As for reading the manual . . . what  manual? The only one I recall seeing
was online, which has never worked for  me. While it's unlikely I ever would
sit down and read a hard cover edition  from cover to cover (because my
memory is not good enough to absorb all that  info and recall it under pressure
when I need it most). . . online help  has never worked for me, because it
requires jumping back and forth from   the help pages to the site of the
problem. In this case, I might have tried  it, but at the most critical times,
even the pointer was unavailable. A  plain, old  handbook would have
offered the best of both worlds!   I'm sure  not providing one was a financial
decision for Adobe, but for  the price they charge for the application, they
    could have afforded  it.

  • Acrobat XI Pro Install via CCP Packager for Enterprise unuseable - tips for the unitiated

Well, after at least six weeks of trying to script and package Acrobat XI via the CCP packager for enterprise (Windows 7 X64) I have learnt many home truths which I thought I would share with the unitiated. This process, from the point of view of an IT admin who has to mass deploy this application to 680 PC's as part of an updated SOE has been the most painful scripting process I have ever found of any package (we successfully deploy Office, and Autodesk apps!). Not only that, but our entire State technical colleges have all purchased the same version. This will be affecting IT staff across a huge area, perhaps worldwide. Below are some some facts relating to this that I will share so others do not have to trawl the minefiled of dead-ends and confusion that is Adobe forums/official documentation. Apologies for not finding direct links to all of the below just yet but I've run out of time as we now have MANUALLY install Acrobat XI on all of these machines. When I get time I will post some of the links:
    Facts:
Acrobat XI and Lightroom are NOT "CC" packages. Therefore they rely on a spearate serial numbers to install standalone without another major Adobe product (eg Photoshop) to be installed and then run first. Otherwise they will run in trial mode. If your organistaion is wanting to install these products I highly recommend seeing if Adobe can provide you with these.
Without the use of serial number for Acrobat XI this almost renders the Customisation Wizard effectively useless, none of the silent install switch will work with "Offline Exception"
Yes, one Adobe employee notes that you must install a major package before Acrobat but as the aoplogies for not fixing this were posted last August, we are still in the quandry of not having any useable fix except for the ridiculous "Exceptions" file and Exceptions installer.
If you run the Build and/or execeptions msi's it installs Acrobat twice, gold Adobe, gold.
http://forums.adobe.com/message/6039529#6039529 - look at this for a working script for Photoshop etc, it's great. Thanks to http://forums.adobe.com/people/PetriRiihikallio for posting this. However, alas, it cannot silently install Acrobat correctly (thus far).
It appears that the msi builder for CCP for enterprise is fatally flawed. I have never had as much problem with installing msi's -  ever. For example, I have had to re-package the msi multiples times and many times simply running the msi will fail.
The idea that all major installs have to install the 32 bit version AND the 64 bit version is riduclous, enough said.
http://blogs.adobe.com/acrolaw/2013/02/acrobat-xi-deployment-guide-for-large-firms/ this guide may be useful for people who have been given a separate serial number.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/known-issues-acrobat-xi-reader.html another useful link
I think for the time being I have now wasted enough time trying to tear my hair out with this. I will be waiting for Adobe to announce Acrobat and Lightroom CC. this will enable the correct deployment of a single app without having the bloat my SOE with unnecessary applications that most staff rarely use. Ahhh, I love a good manual install via VNC/RDP, don't you?

Hi Waltpenner and others, yes it can be very confusing and writing script after script got me even more confused.
Now, the story continues, after 6+ hours on the phone with Adobe Support...
When you install Adobe Acrobat XI it asks you to install the C++ Redistributable package and this is where the msi will STOP INSTALLING. even though the MSI says "complete"
Now you think to yourself, OK, I'll write a script to install this msi package no problems, solved.
Nope, the msi for Acrobat Pro XI will Still Halt even if you write this into the script along with halt no err or something similar in your code.
    So what do you do?
When you create your msi in Cloud Packager, even though this feels completely against your better judgement tick the box under conflicting Process entitled "Ignore Conflicts and Continue installations" This will (finally) allow you to run the msi. Please see the wonderful deployment script above, which you may still need to edit to your needs (I did) - which I post once it's working perfectly.
You could then install the C++ redist from Microsoft at a later date ----> On that note however (thanks Microsoft for this gem) the Visual C++ redist is an msi for download, but it's actually a zip file calling an exe inside it. I suggest using the App Deploy Repackager  to help you change registry entries if you need to install this, but choose your favourite tool (and no I'm not talking about that work colleague you don't like
Note: You will need to install this for certain features of Acro Pro XI to function, most of which relates to sever functions of Acrobat. I will post the exact reasons when I find them. Under pressure to get this deployed, I have not deployed this pckage as yet. Also, I'm unsure how Visual C++ will affect other major apps across my enterprise just yet.
    Things to still consider
Acrobat still installs twice in the program directory (1.7GB nd 1.8GB respectively)
As all of the other CC packages are quite easy to install, Adobe needs to provide better service to it's enterprise customers by creating a proper version of Acrobat and Lightroom which is Acrobat CC and Lightroom CC, not version numbers tacked onto their new Cloud Service.
As for the above point I would still recommend creating the smallest msi packages you can, as large msi's that install a number of Apps (eg all of the web/image editing apps) take forever and quite often exhibit install errors
The amount of time I've spent on this is ridiculous, and we've had to package everything from Office to Autocad.
The amount of bandwidth I've chewed up is excessive, with package re-creation (download) of all the products probably about 100GB - however the ability to edit these packages with updates with the CCP is a good step forward.
Using the CCP through a proxy is horrendous, and complicated with the amount of exception through the servers you have to prvide (even then it rarely works).
The MSI packager still needs quite alot of work. As Petri states why he had to write a script like this when Adobe could have done the same thing is beyond him.
Adobe needs to trawl it's forum posts and take out the many false leads and dead ends provided by it's experts.
When I Think of anything else, or wite more scipts I'll let you all know.
    Cheers,

Once a user selects a number it will send them to an action

it will set the variables. It isn't working at this time. Its not
bringing the values of billnumber, houseorig or the billtype.
Does anyone have any thoughts? I know it is close to working
and I need to set all of the inputs to input4 to generate my

give'em a break. he is probably under pressure (like we all
have been). in response, i do not even see some of the variables
you are checking in the second script in the first. get this one
straight and i think it'll work.

  • Dynamic Value in where cluase..Ideas please..

    Hi All,
Wishes.. Any idea for below problem Please..
    Fields in Form 1:
    CONTROL      PO     FACTOR          TS_LAST_UPDATE    AMEND
    19950927    739409  SPP               19-JUN-98       00
    19950927    739409  SPP               19-JUN-98       01
    19950927    739409  SPP               19-JUN-98       03
    19950927    739409  SPP               19-JUN-98       04
    19950927    739409  SPP               19-JUN-98       05
    19950927    739409  SPP               19-JUN-98       06
    19950927    739409  SPP               19-JUN-98       07
    19950927    739409  SPP               19-JUN-98       08
    19950927    739409  SPP               19-JUN-98       09
    19950927    739409  SPP               19-JUN-98       10
    19950927    739409  SPP               19-JUN-98       11   Form 2 Fields:
    PAYMENTDATE   AMOUNT          TS_LAST_UPDATE
    01-JAN-96     88225                  19-JUN-98
    01-JAN-96     7801                   19-JUN-98
    01-JAN-96     29895                  19-JUN-98
    01-JAN-96     33065                  19-JUN-98
    01-JAN-96     63822                  19-JUN-98
    01-JAN-96     7615                   19-JUN-98
    01-JAN-96     20168                  19-JUN-98
    01-JAN-96     13514                  19-JUN-98
    01-JAN-96     7287                   19-JUN-98
01-JAN-96     23919                  19-JUN-98                         In this Control,PO,Amend will pass as parameter to form B when I click the button on Form 1
Now I would like to design a dynamic query in such a way that.. what ever ther "amend" user passes from form1 IT SHOULD PASS AS MINIMUM 'AMEND' FOR THAT CONTROL.
Best way to put in above example from Form A , user passes 19950927 as Control,739409 as Po and *02* as Amend THEN AMEND SHOULD BE PASSED AS '00' which is minimum amend number for that Control then i should execute the query for target table on form2 and should display all the payments irrespctive of amendno that has been passed.
This is due to special requirement as there is no amend data in Table2 (used in form2) but which was present in Table1 in (used in form1)., so we mass updated Table2 amend with minimum amend in Table1.
and same way if user passes 19950927 as Control,739409 as Po and *03* as Amend THEN AMEND SHOULD BE PASSED AS '00' which is minimum amend number for that Control and then i should execute the query for target table on form2.
Same way what ever amend no the user passes it should be passed as minimum amendno for that control ---> ---> execute query..on form 2
I am thinking of dynamic where clause..dont know what logic i should use here..
any code suggestions in this context please..
    Thanks in advance
    Prasanth

    Hi All,
    Thanks for all your repilies..
Andreas Weiden, sorry..I should be much clearer in explaing what I need..I am just explaining again below..
Amman Ahmad, thanks for your suggestion.. your understanding is bit closer... sorry that my explaination was not better..
Here I will try explain with a scenario from database level... and then to form level
    Table1:
    select *
    from table1
    where control = '19950927'
    and po = '739409'
    and factor = 'SPP'
*So here if you look below same control + PO having multiple amend values*
    CONTROL               PO              AMEND             FACTOR                            ID
    19950927            739409            00                   SPP                        002
    19950927            739409            01                   SPP                        002
    19950927            739409            02                   SPP                        002
    19950927            739409            03                   SPP                       002
    19950927            739409            04                   SPP                        002
    19950927            739409            05                   SPP                        002
    19950927            739409            06                   SPP                        002
    another example:
    CONTROL               PO              AMEND             FACTOR                            ID
    19950928            739419            07                   SPP                        002
    19950928            739419            08                   SPP                        002
    19950928            739419            09                   SPP                        002
    19950928            739419            10                   SPP                       002
    19950928            739419            11                   SPP                        002
    19950928            739419            12                   SPP                        002
    19950928            739419            13                   SPP                        002 Before update in Table 2(Payments):
See below amend is NULL in table 2  for older records
    select *
    from table2
    where control = '19950927'
    and po = '739409'
    and factor = 'SPP'

*So seeing above we understand that, we cannot really pick which amount is for which Amend since there is no DATA for amend
    is available*
    * for future records we didnt really bother as we added the column newly making it not null all future will have specific amount
for each amend..that is not the issue here *
    Update Statement:
    * so we are issuing below update Table2 to set minimum of amend from Table1 will be updated for coresponding records
in Table2 so Now we will able able to build a mandatory relationship between these two. Mandatory here means..
    Table1.control=Table2.control
    Table1.PO=Table2.PO
    Table1.factor=Table2.factor
    Table1.amend=Table2.amend *
    Update Table2 set po=(select min(amend)from Table1
          where  Table2.control=Table1.control
                 AND
                 Table2.PO=Table1.PO
              AND
              Table2.factor=Table1.factor)
    WHERE
                    Table2.control= '19950927'
              AND
              Table2.PO = '739409'
                    AND  Table2.factor = 'SPP'
    Update Table2 set po=(select min(amend)from Table1
          where  Table2.control=Table1.control
                 AND
                 Table2.PO=Table1.PO

    Interpretation of above output:
    1. see for second example CONTROL 19950928 updated with '07' as it is minimum amend number in Table 1 for this combination
    of Control(19950928)+PO(739419)
    2. Same way see for second example CONTROL 19950928 updated with '07' as it is minimum amend number in Table 1 for this combination
    of Control(19950928)+PO(739419)
    NOW COMING TO ACTUAL FORMS:
    1. User passes Control + PO + Amend + Factor from Form1 to form2(which is based on Table1)
In above example... if user passes combination of 19950927 (control) + 739409 (its PO)+ SPP (factor) + 00 (amend, this
is the value after update in Table2..i.e the minimum amend
Now Payment block in Form 2 display all records as all payment records mapped to amend '00'
    2. another example if user passes combination of 19950928 (control) + 739419 (its PO)+ SPP (factor) + 07 (amend, this
is the value after update in Table2..i.e the minimum amend
    Till this pefectly fine...
    NOW LIMITATION IS:
User can have choice of selecting any amend from Table1 as it is there in Table1 already...
    Now example..
In above example... if user passes
combination of 19950927 (control) + 739409 (its PO)+ SPP (factor)+ 02 (which is not minimum
for this control and not in table2 after update)
NOW IT IS DISPLAYING BLANK RECORDS IN PAYMENT SECTION IN FORM 2 as there is mapping is failed
    Passed parameter is:
    19950927(control) + 739409 (its PO)+ SPP (factor)+ 02 (amend) (match failed)
    OR
    19950928(control) + 739419 (its PO)+ SPP (factor)+ 09 (amend) (match failed)
    But It should be
    19950927(control) + 739409 (its PO)+ SPP (factor)+ 00 (amend)
(match passed as we updated all payment rec with amend as minimum amend 00
In this case it will fecth all the payment records.
    OR
    19950928(control) + 739419 (its PO)+ SPP (factor)+ 07 (amend)
(match passed as we updated all payment rec with amend as minimum amend 77
In this case it will fecth all the payment records.
    NOW WHAT CUSTOMER WANTS
So what I need to do is : even if customer passes the below combination..
    19950927(control) + 739409 (its PO)+ SPP (factor)+ 02 (amend) from Form 1
    or
    19950928(control) + 739419 (its PO)+ SPP (factor)+ 09 (amend)
IT SHOULD GO TO FORM 2 as 19950927(control) + 739409 (its PO)+ SPP (factor)+ 00 (amend)-- since table2 has 00(amend) for all records after update
    19950928(control) + 739419 (its PO)+ SPP (factor)+ 07 (amend)-- since table2 has 07(amend) for all records
SO THAT IT WILL FOUND DATA MATCH AND PULL UP ALL RECORDS OF PAYMENTS AS IT PASSED THE AMEND WHICH IS ACTUALLY IN TABLE2
Customer is agreed that for older records, if he can  see all payments amounts irrespective of amend which he passes to form2
*But User does not really know which is minimum amend for this combination..BUT As programmer, I need to do programatically
what ever amend he selects on form1 it should be passed as value which is in table2.. i mean 00 and 07 in above cases*
    Sorry for long post..
Though I am under pressure to finish this soon..I cant really say its URGENT and help me..BECAUSE THIS IS HELPING FORUMS AND IT NOT GOOD MANNERS TO PULL FOR RUSH.
    Any help would be appreciated..
Thanks much for all forum member in advance for nice help and suggestions...
    Best Regards

  • Wacom tablet and photoshop

I have just got a new Macbook Pro Yosemite. I have Adobe CS6 and everytime I use my Wacom tablet it acts buggy. For instance: Using the eraser tool, if I want to make the eraser larger I hit "]" as a shortcut. This doesn't work unless I click on a mouse first on the background before using the Pen again. This happens for other tools and shortcuts. The Polygonal Lasso tool also only works if there is a very long lag between points using the Wacom Pen.
Is anyone else having this issue? I've tried reinstalling the Wacom drivers and updating the software but it has yet to be effective.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers

That is a definite yes. It is way more accurate than the mouse is and it provides pressure values that will be important for any brush work. Even Illustrator makes use of them.
There will be a lot of clipping images for the web page so it makes sense to have a precise instrument to do the job.
One last thing, it will help prevent carpal tunnel in your wrist. If you already have it it will provide some relief. If nothing more than a way to alter how you hold your hand for a while.
It will take some time getting use to the tablet, so keep a mouse around, especially at school. Nothing worse than getting frustrated when your under a time crunch. Play with the tablet at home get use to it, when you feel comfortable with it, then try it in school. Just be prepared to use the mouse when your under pressure. Over time that won't be an issue.
