Nginx.exe spawned by Link ?

I have multiple nginx processes that I cannot get to go away regardless of malware and virus systems. It only appears on my work station versus laptop as I don't have link running on my Laptop.
Is this something Link installs? If so we should be warmed as its a very common malware tool and browser redirect virus as well as a great proxy server

I found something that worked. One way that works, but I prefer not to use it, is to open MSCONFIG and to to the Startup Tab. Remove the checkmark on RIM Desktop Platform. After removing the checkmark Re-Start the computer. Unfortunately this will disable the RIM software from allowing your phone to remotely see files on your computer using the phone's file manager. In a very simple explanation, NGINX is a utility that works like a remote server access utility. RIM uses this service in their LINK program. The fix I used was to go in to the LINK setup. Click on This Computer {Computer name} at the top upper left. Click on Remote File Access to remove the checkmark. At the top inside of the top barder of the program window, Sign Out.
Re-start the LINK software. Log back in again. If you want to allow for Remote File Access, put back the checkmark. If everything went well, the fault should no longer appear.
Re-Boot the computer. The fault should be gone. The more drastic way is to un-install LINK, and then re-install LINK. Then go through all the setups to get it going again.

Your fix, quoted from you below, worked super delux. I found a new problem, but this would not affect most users unless they were using remote acces from the BB phone to their computer.
When RIM Desktop Platform is unchecked to not start up, there is no longer access over the mobile network to have a direct link from the phone to the computer that is running BB Link. In simple terms, the user of the BB phone can look at and modify files on their computer while out on the road. This can come in very handy in the case you need some info that is on your computer at home or at the office.
For this to work in the first place, the Link software must be logged in to the account, and be set up to allow this. If I remember correctly by default this feature does work.

When I close Firefox 4.0 RC2, I have four or more instances of "plugin-container.exe" spawn before Firefox (and all of the spawned processes) close. Is this normal/intended behavior?

These processes seem to be independent of the normal plugin-container process spawned for Flash.

Probably the easiest way is to download Firefox again from http://www.mozilla.com and re-install it.

ITunes iPodService.exe spawns service thread that consumes 40%plus CPU use

I have 7.1.1.5 loaded. all was well then I noticed that the program became unresponsive, lost coms with the iPod and developed the above symptom.. I have deleted all iPod temp files, iTunes related files in local data and have deleted and reinstalled iTunes - still the same problem, as soon as ipodsvcs comes up it spawns a service thread that will run forever at 40% usage....
I can see the iPod in windows so it is not a comms issue with the iPod - just an iTunes issue.There doesn't appear to be a way to get Apple to respond to this issue. They seem to archive all such threads so you cannot update??

if it was a windows drive letter confusion, i'm afraid that that one is due to the way that Windows assigns drive letters. it hits other devices as well. for possible symptoms for ipods and/or other devices, see:

Trouble linking exe files

Yet another dilemma with my CD project. I published the first
project file (of 9 separate projects) as a standalone .exe file
with an autostart file to burn to cd. I set the END to open another
.exe file. When I view output, it fails to open the second .exe
file. It opens a browser window and says it can't find the .exe
file. All project file names are only 8 characters, so that isn't
an issue. But it shouldn't try to open the .exe file in a browser
window, should it? Is there any reason I can't publish all the 9
projects as standalone .exe files and link them to one
another?

Here's the way I would think it would work.
You have a menu and perhaps ten movies. They are all in .EXE
format. The menu.exe would run via autorun.inf as long as nothing
has impeded it. So you have a Menu.EXE running. Your user clicks a
movie link and POOF! The selected movie.EXE plays. But here's the
trick. The movie opens in a new instance of the Flash player. The
Menu.exe is still running. It's simply covered by the new movie. If
the user closes the new movie, the Menu.exe is uncovered. This
allows him/her to open other movies from the menu.
Sorry, no way I'm aware of to speed things along. For one
thing, accessing anything off a CD will be slower to react than off
a hard drive. For another, maybe the movie is simply very large and
would take an inordinate amount of time to open even on a fast hard
drive. Hard to say.

Zend Core 4 Oracle spawn so many php-cgi.exe

I am installing Zend Core for Oracle on Win XP Pro SP2 with all default option. Installation went OK and can connect to existing Oracle database.
But when i saw processes in memory using Process Explorer, there are 8 php-cgi.exe spawned by Apache server. Is this normal?

I couldn't find the registry key you mentionbefore, but I modified fastcgi.conf in C:\Program Files\Zend\Core For Oracle\etc instead.
I am actually new to web development, is it true that the more cgi server spawned means the more visitor you can server in your website? is there any limitation on how many visitor can a cgi server can serve?

Links to exe and back to menu builder not working

I have read through all of the messages in the Forum and have
seen similar questions on this topic but no actual answers for this
precise situation. I apologize if I've just missed it. I'm fairly
new to Captivate and am using version 2. I am building a project
that will have 15 - 20 standalone .exe files.
This client is one of of the very few that does not have
Flash Player and will not due to security reasons. We will publish
and play from a DVD/CD.
The problem -
I need to have a course menu to link to each exe and then
link back from each exe to the main menu.
I have built a sample menu builder and exported it as an exe.
The links to the other files from this main menu work; however, I
cannot get the links in the separate exe files to access the main
menu exe (i.e. menu builder file). I either get a blank browser
window or other url window, or nothing happens and the screen just
stays there. The same thing will happen if I'm using the menu in
the skins feature.
I have ensured that all my files are in the same folder. I
have variations on the link, such as "relative" links as suggested
(i.e., removing path information and including only the file name).
I'm not sure Captivate Player will help because it sounds
like that is more for Web applications.

Hi Don
Sure thing. The weird part of this is that it will require
using both MenuBuilder and Captivate to accomplish it. As you have
seen, Captivate likes to open things by feeding into HTTP. So
often, you wish to open a Word Document or a .PDF and you see a
browser open. The bizarre part of all this, is that if you look at
the address bar of the browser that opens, the path and filename
are correct! You click there and press Enter and by golly it loads
up. Go figure.
So here goes.
1. Note the exact file name you wish to open. Perhaps
"Menu.EXE".
2. Open MenuBuilder and create a new totally blank project.
3. Set your width and height by clicking Options > Project
Options. I think the smallest you can go is 320 wide and 200 high.
4. Click Insert > Clickbox.
5. For the link part, just type "Menu.EXE" (or whatever you
noted in step 1) Note that you should not enter any path. JUST the
file name. You might also click to place a check mark in the "Save
file with project" check box, just to be on the safe side.
6. Export the project as a Flash SWF.
7. Close MenuBuilder and open your Captivate project.
8. Edit the slide where your user will click to open the .EXE
and click Insert > Animation...
9. Insert the .SWF you created using MenuBuilder. Position it
over where you wish your user to click.
10. Publish your Captivate and test the link.
In case it will help, I've got a zip containing all the files
so you can see them in action (I included the source). No cloak and
dagger with this next part, just conserving bandwidth, as I'm
limited with this service and I don't wish everyone and their
brother to use it all up just looking to see. Shoot me an E-Mail

link to download the files for you to play with.

EXE files no longer link

Hi,
Were are creating a director file and have used buttons with
the "jump to movie behaviour" in order to link between several
different movies and, although though it works with the .dir files,
when we publish the movie to .exe files, the links no longer work.
does anyone know how we can rectify this please?

Mike has answered the question but just to expand somewhat.
As Mike said, make your EXE from the start movie and then all
the remaining ones
can be either DIR, DXR or DCR. You'd typically go with DXR
(protected) for an
executable. You can go with DCR (Shockwave) if you want to
compress your content.
Generally, you'd create a stub projector. Here's a tutorial
on this:

If you wanted to have a single EXE with all your movies, you
can do that but it is
not recommended as from a speed and memory management point
of view, it's not very
good.
Just one correction of Mike's message. - Once you create a
EXE, it embeds that
movie into the projector. You can rename the EXE to whatever
you like but the
original movie is still locked in there with its original
name. So, you can link to
that original movie inside the EXE without the need to have
the DIR/DXR/DCR
version.
For example say you have:
opening.dir
movie1.dir
movie2.dir
and say they link to each other.
You could create the following for your final delivery and
put them in a new
location:
start.exe
movie1.dxr
movie2.dxr
start.exe is made from opening and the other 2 movies have
been protected.
If you have a behavior inside 'opening' that links to
'movie1', the start.exe will
jump to that movie through the projector. So, you may not
even notice there was a
change. Same thing would happen if you now jumped to
'movie2'. If you now jump back
to 'opening', it will still work even though you don't have
that file. It's because
it can be found inside the EXE.

Windows 8.1 Spawing Multiple copies of Sdclt.exe After Upgrade from 8 to 8.1

I have a single user here at work whom we upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1. Since them, Windows Backup (SDCLT.EXE) spawns over and over. I have to go in and TASKKILL it every day and it comes back, either by itself or when the user logs in or reboots.
I've tried many suggestions:

Please check Task Scheduler, make sure Windows Backup was not there. In addition, I noticted that in these three link, you may disable all Winodws startup or service, isn't it? I doubt this problem also can be caused 3rd system backup software.
If problem persists, may be you can try to rename sdclt.exe(C:\Windows\System32) for test. I made a test in our test enviroment, after rename this program, System Image Backup won't be work. Even you run this program manually.

OLE objects linked to MS Word/MS Excel do not update in InfoView

I am facing the following problem:
- Embedded a Word document as linked OLE object into a crystal report and stored it to Enterprise repository.
- When opening the report with CR Developer from my workstation, links are updated and changes made in the .doc file are reflected, the report is updated
- However when displaying and refreshing the report in InfoView changes aren't reflected.
The OLE link (type document) is set to update automatically. I tried to store the report to the enterprise repository with and without data. Yet no difference - no update in either case. Neither scheduling nor opening and refreshing the report in InfoView helps.
I further inserted an OLE object linked to a bmp image, and for the image refreshing works, even in InfoView
So am I doing something wrong?
Some threads in this forum indicate that only OLE linked pictures (bmp, jpg) can be refreshed dynamically, e.g.

Others indicate that it is also possible to dynamically refresh OLE objects linked to .doc, e.g.

- Is it at all possible to dynamically display the contents of .doc or .xls files in a CR when viewing and refreshing the report in InfoView (without the need to reopen and resave the report with CR Developer first) ?
- We are using BOE XI3.1 SP3 and Crystal Reports 2008 SP3. On the BOE server Crystal Reports Developer is not installed. Can this be a prerequisite for the OLE links to update in InfoView?
- Any other suggestions?

- You say that this works in CR Designer. That's right. As described above, even I can open the report with CR Designer and the links are getting updated.
- However if I do not reopen and resave the report with Designer ... if I just open and refresh the report in InfoView to get the updated information from the files ... changes are not shown. I face this problem ONLY with ole links to .doc and .exe. OLE links to image formats such as .bmp do work. WHY?
My files are already stored locally to the BO server and the (changed) image files are read and updated from exactly this directory. But not the linked Excel and Word files...

Flash EXE files with FLVs

Hi,
I have an Flash file saved as an EXE which contains a couple
of FLVs. The video and sound play fine when you open the EXE
directly. In fact, it plays fine when you open it directly from
wherever I put it (file server, web server, etc). But people will
access this EXE from a link on a web page, when you click on that
link, which then opens the EXE file, the video and sound will not
play. I am stumped - and I'm far from being a Flash video expert.
Does anyone have any advice?

Linking two PDFs

Is there a way to link from one page of a PDF to a particular page of another. I use named desinations to link to the page, it works on my computer. Yet, when it is published on the web it links to the PDFs cover page, not the exact page I entered for it's named destination.

Hi Elizabeth and welcome to our community
As you have seen, this linking can prove to be a bit "iffy".
Particularly when you link from a .EXE. I'll be willing to bet a
dollar against a donut that when your browser issues that message,
if you just click up inside where the address is and press Enter,
the silly .PDF pops open.
One way that folks have been able to link successfully is by
creating a .SWF that you drop onto a Captivate slide. The .SWF is
programmed to open the .PDF. I've done this using the companion
MenuBuilder application. Just create a small project containing
nothing more than a Click Box object that is supposed to open the
.PDF. Then export the MenuBuilder as a .SWF. Then inside Captivate,
click Insert > Animation and insert the .SWF you created using
MenuBuilder. Position it over some text or an image your user
should click to open the .PDF.
I've uploaded a small .ZIP file at

for you to pull down and look at. Just extract the two files inside
and make sure they are both in the same folder.
Inside are a small Captivate created .EXE containing two
links to the .PDF file that is also inside the .ZIP. One link was
created using the Click Box object of Captivate. It will probably
fail. The other uses the method I outlined earlier and should work.

I never had version 11.5 installed but I had the create bookmarks option. I had version 11.0 installed and had the create bookmarks option.
I'm still having problems installing Crystal Reports XI R2. It makes it through the entire installation and then a screen pops up telling me that it can not find "CrystalReports.msi". It is looking for this file in a temp file. I use the browse button and point it to the proper file location but it still won't accept it. The only thing I can do is exit out of the installation. Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to do something special to upgrade Crystal Reports?

As far as I noticed sqlplusw.exe is NOT part of the standard Oracle Express distribution.
Where can I download sqlplus.exe otherwise ?
Do I really have to download and install full
SQLdeveloper to be able to use tiny sqlplusw.exe ?
Is there a seperate sqlplusw.exe download package link ?

sqlplusw.exe is the old Windows version of the command line sql plus. sqlplusw.exe has been deprecated by Oracle and will eventually be dropped.
The one to use from now on is sqlplus[.exe] and can be installed from the Oracle Client distribution.
Neither are part of the SQL Developer distribution.
I'm not sure what comes with the OE distribution.
