NI-6062E FM signal generation with DAQmx

Hi everyone,
I am trying to use the NI-6062E DAQ card to generate an AC voltage signal and I found 2 relevent example:
(1)Cont Gen Voltage Wfm-Int Clk.vi found in LV7.1 DAQmx examples
(2)Function Generator with FM.vi also found in LV7.1 examples
But I have it hard to implement the 2nd vi directly into the 1st one and it looks like I have to make change to the subVIs?
I am trying to modulate a 500Hz sine wave with frequency of 10Hz, can anyone help?
Thank you!

rpursley8 wrote:
Are you trying to do this as a real-time signal or are you generation the waveform ahead of time and sending it out?
An FM modulated signal is defined as
f(t) = A*cos(2*pi*fc*t + m*sin(2*pi*fm*t))
where
A = amplitude of signal
fc = carrier frequency (500 Hz)
m = modulation index (how big of a swing in frequency that you want)
fm = modulation frequency (10 Hz)
pi = pi
so a formula node might be the easiest way. To generate a complete cycle, you will have to generate 0.1 seconds of data, then you could repeat it continuously without any discontinuitues.
Clearly the carrier and modulation can be something other than sinusoids, but this is how it is usually represented.
Attached is an example of generating the waveform.
Hi Randall,
Thank you for your reply, yes and I am trying to generate this real time signal on the NI-6062E Analog Output channel, but I find it difficult to insert either your example or the example FM vi from LV7.1 into the following VI?
I think it also needs to deal with hardware channel config (for sample clock rate) using DAQmx? or I need to make change to the subVI such as Waveform Buffer Generation.vi or even further the Basic Function Generator.vi?
Thank you for your patient.
Regards
Rolly

  • DAQmx with signal generation

    Hello,
I am working on converting my current test code that used Traditional DAQ to DAQmx. I need some help with DAQ Waveform Generation.
In my current code I am using the Traditional DAQ to send a Sinewave output on on the DAC0Out on my PCI-6036E card. I have it set-up so I can runt he VI and when the Vi stops the Signal Keeps going until I tell it to stop. I need to do the same thing with DAQmx. I found that the example 'Cont Gen Voltage WFM-INT Clk-Variable Rate.vi does everything I need but when the VI stops so does my signal. What can I do to make it so the signal stays running when my vi stops.
this VI is a Sub in my program, the user is able to control a boolean to start and stop the waveform, I cannot keep it in a loop as they may want to turn ont he waveform and perform other tasks then turn it off.
I am trying different things as well, but any help would be appreciated.

    Hello Jeff,
To continue to output a signal after you have stopped and closed the VI, you use the auto cleanup terminal on the DAQmx Create Channel VI.  Auto cleanup specifies if LabVIEW automatically destroys the
task when the application completes execution. If auto cleanup is FALSE, LabVIEW does not automatically destroy the task until you exit
LabVIEW. But you can use the DAQmx Clear Task VI to manually
    destroy the task.
I'm attaching a modified version of the Cont Gen Voltage WFM-INT Clk-Variable Rate.vi that continuous to generate the AO signal until you close LV.
    Good luck!

  • Pulse Generation application with DAQmx and a PXI-6624 module?

What is the best implementation method for the following pulse generation application
using LabVIEW, DAQmx and a PXI-6624 counter\timer module?
I have two rising edge trigger signals (Trigger-1 and Trigger-2).
There is ample spacing between each trigger. They never occur at the same time.
I need to generate a single pulse (fixed width, variable delay) whenever Trigger-1 occurs and
a finite pulse train (fixed width, variable delay, N-pulses) whenever Trigger-2 occurs.
However, the output must appear on one counter output because this composite signal
will be used as a trigger source for another PXI module in the rack.
With DAQmx and a TIO counter\timer can I use both the GATE (for Trigger-1) and
AUX (for Trigger-2) at the same time on the same counter to gate out the desired pulses?
Trigger-1 would be wired to the GATE of CTR0. One Trigger-1 event would generate one pulse on the output of CTR0.
Trigger-2 would be wired to the GATE of CTR1 and the output of CTR1 would be routed to the AUX input of CTR0.
One Trigger-2 event at the GATE of CTR1 would generate multiple pulses on output of CTR0.
Would DAQmx and the PXI-6624 TIO support this implementation?
What is the best way to accomplish the task at hand.
    Thank You.
    Best Regards,
    Scooby

    Hi Scooby,
I have looked into the application you have described and I see a potential problem with what you describe.  In DAQmx, it is not possible to call the counters of the same DAQ device in the same task, so you cannot have the finite pulse train generation and the single pulse generation tasks running at the same time.  What you can do, since you mention the triggers will not occur at the same time, is to stop one counter task while you are triggering another.  The way I would suggest you merge the outputs is with a two input Or logic gate to avoid damaging your counters.  Your signals will effectively be added together by this logic gate.   I do not see any way to merge the outputs internal to the DAQ device.
Please let me know if I can be of additional assistance.

I had generated samples for 2seconds with 1ms duration of each sample.
I am unable to do that with 1ms resolution in cDAQ -9477 Digital card.
Is the above signal generation is possible (each sample -1ms) ?
I am using LabVIEW2009 .I attached the code.

cDAQ chassis do not currently support hardware timed tasks for digital modules with >8 lines.  The DAQmx help defines these devices as "static digital I/O modules".  The "Digital I/O Consideration for C Series Devices" section in the DAQmx help describes the capabilities of digital modules on different chassis.
Unfortunately this means you are stuck with static (software timed) generation.  Over USB this will affect the accuracy of your signal.  You won't be able to achieve the signal you are trying to generate with the current support.  Static generation will max out at roughly 1kHz, but Windows can introduce a large amount of jitter.  What you really need is a hardware timed task.
This is a feature that could be added in the future.  I recommend submitting a feature request, though I know that doesn't solve your problem now.

  • When using the LabVIEW Simulation Module, how can I start a frequency sweep with the Simulation Chirp signal generation VI at an arbitrary time after the simulation initial time?

I'm using the Simulation Loop on LV RT when interacting with some hardware (i.e. all I/O is happening in the Sim loop). I'm going to conduct a frequency sweep test on the hardware and want to use the Simulation Chirp function. However, there is no way (that I can see) to trigger the Chirp to start at some event (i.e. I click a boolean on the front panel and enter a case statement). The Chirp is tied to the global time of the Simulation loop and so are it's input parameters. Is there a way to make it relative to some time at which an event happens?

    Craig,
Your solution will 'cut' the beginning of the signal and only show the signal afterwards.
To control when the chirp should start, the best option is to use the Chirp Pattern.vi ( in the Signal Generation palette) and use a Lookup table to control when to feed the time. The shipping example (in LabVIEW 2013) shows how to code using a lookup table.
    C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2013\examples\Control and Simulation\Simulation\Signal Generation\SimEx Chirp.vi
Then, to start from a toggled boolean, look at the example:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2013\examples\Control and Simulation\Simulation\Signal Generation\SimEx Step.vi
and Here is the example in 2013 (in attachment):

  • How to configure a continuous pulse generation that doesn't end after the VI exits with DAQmx?

    Hi,
I'm just learning the DAQmx and I have run into a problem.
With the legacy DAQ API I could configure a counter to create continuous pulses and
when I needed change the freq or duty cycle, I would just call the the configuration function
again. The pulses were generated even after I closed LV, so it was all in the hardware.
Now, with DAQmx api, it seems that this is not possible. I read a forum post saying that
LV will end the pulse generation after the VI exits. Is there a workaround for this?
I could ofcourse create a LV thread for this, but I liked the old one better
It was simpler and I didn't need to worry about threads so much.
All LV operations are going to be inside a DLL that is called from outside of LV, so I can't
use LV threads in a simple way, e.g. putting things inside a while loop. Just that you'll
know why I wan't to avoid using the threads.
    Thanks.

It is possible to achieve this behavior using the DAQmx API by using the DAQmx Create Task VI to explicitly create the task (rather than relying on DAQmx Create Channel to do it implicitly) and setting the AutoCleanup attribute to False.  This method prevents LabVIEW from automatically clearing the task when your VI (or the function you'll be exporting to your C .dll) finishes executing.  The disadvantage is that you might accidentally "leak" a task if you're not careful.  In order to stop the pulse generation on command, you can either reset the device or somehow store the task name you created and come back later to call DAQmx Stop and/or Clear Task.
Here's how you would start the generation:
...and how you could come back and stop it later, using the task name you created:
    Hopefully this helps-

  • Why the acquisition with DAQmx is different by using Labview 8.2 from Labview signal express?

    Hello,
I am using a PCi-6281 to acquire a voltage. When I am using Labview signal express with only the step to acquire I read the good signal with the exact voltage. But when I am using my VI, the y axis and the values recorded are wrong. Why this difference appears?
I insert a picture with both signal: at the top is the signal from my vi (wrong measurement) and at the bottom is the signal from labview signal express (correct).
The vi I am using is the example Cont Acqu&Graph Voltage-To file (binary).vi.
    Thank you for your answer!

    Sophie

I am using the binary file because it requires the minimum change in another VI. I have tried to change in scaled data but now my second VI has not enough memory to display all data.... What's wrong? Here is my second VI. Totest with data you need to insert a number in the "scaling factor" if not the dat are multiplied by zero...
    thanks for your help!

Problem with DAQmx and Real Time PCI-7041/6040E.
I have a problem with the Real Time card PCI-7041/6040E, I think it is properly installed because my software run with the traditional NI-DAQ. When I try to use the new DAQmx to acquire one signal, Labview doesn't see any device for de DAQ card 6040E.
    Information, I work on Windows XP and LabView v7.0.0 (NIDAQ RT v7.0.0, NI-Serial RT v2.5.2, NI-VISA v3.0.1 and NI-Watchdog v2.0.0).
Could Labview RT run with new DAQmx ?
What can I do to use DAQmx with PCI-7041/6040E?

  • How to generate sequence of pulse trains with DAQmx?

I need to generate a sequence of pulse trains with DAQmx (the card I have is a PXI-6229 card). As an example:
    - 10'000 pulses at 20kHz every 5 seconds with an initial offset of 2 seconds (let's say 10 pulse trains in total).
If I use the CreateVirtualChannel.vi in "CO pulse ticks" mode, I can only specificy offset, high ticks and low ticks, but not that the sequence of pulses should be repeated after some time.
Now I thought that I could solve this problem if it were possible to multiply two counter outputs: the first counter would generate the pulses (continuously) whereas the second one would switch between low and high on a slower timescale in order to gate the first counter, thereby providing an initial offset and the "off" phases between the pulse trains.
Is it somehow possible to multiply two outputs with DAQmx and the card I have? Or is there another solution to the problem?
Thanks a lot in advance for any hints!

    Hi dlanger,
what you want to do requires a little bit more work.
First look at the example "Gen Dig Pulse Train-Continuous.vi" from the LV example finder.
This example generates a continuous* pulse train. As you see, you need a sample clock VI for setting the sample mode.
    * NOTE: Generating a finite pulse train with a M-series card requires 2 counter.
With a pause trigger (DAQmx trigger property node) you can gate the output of that counter.
Now you have to generate a gate-signal with the the 2nd counter. That means, only if  Ctr1-out is high Ctr0-out outputs the 20 kHz-signal.
Maybe you have to adjust the times in my example a bit.
Unfortunately there is just one "small" problem: "let's say 10 pulse trains in total"
This is not possible, because a 3rd counter would be necessary (*).
As a workaround you can modify the while-loop that both tasks are cleared after 50s. This is not brilliant, but should work fine for you.
A more sophisticated way is to perform a correlated DIO. So you can generate custom pattern for multiple outputs.
A good example can you find here:
Retrigger and Repeat Finite Digital Pulse Train in LabVIEW
    http://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-8473
    or here:

    Hope this helps.

  • NI6554 Dinamic generation with external sample clock

I am using the PXI-NI6554 to generate a digital signal, as
clock I want to use an external source that I drive in the board via de CLK IN SMB
connector. Always I got the same error (cod: 1074115898) from the “Write” VI
block, the reason is that there is not clock signal or is not detected.
I tried the example “Dynamic Generation with External Sample

The clock signal is in 3,3V logic. The same clock signal
works to acquire via the STROBE pin. I have scoped the CLK and the shape is
quite ok. I have tried the two possible impedances for the CLK input also.
    I found one respond (http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/884C5A76BA1A474E8625717A0068AA09)

  • DIGITAL SIGNAL GENERATION

    Hi!
I want to generate a digital signal (0-5V) in order to turn on and off an hydraulic pump. The time on (high) and time off (low) are specified by a MatLab code, so that once the pulse has finished one cycle, the program should be go again to MatLab code and take two times again. Then it should generate the signal again.
    Thank you for the help.
    Miguel

    Thanks for the reply.
I have a system with an hydraulic pump, power supply, transistor and computer. I would like to send a digital pulse from my computer (0-5V) to the transistor. The transistor then closes a circuit (power supply and pump), and the pump starts running.
Then, I would like that each sample (each pulse) has specific width (time on), and also specific time off before it starts with other sample. These times (time on and time off) are computed by a MatLab code.
I'm working with DAQmx drivers and I also have a BNC 2110.
I also attach my code in Labview that I am trying to modify.
    Thanks a lot.

Problem with DAQMX on a 6025E
I work on a DAQ 6025E and I can't use the example "Write Dig Port.vi" and all others example on digital output with DAQMX. There isn't any hardware failure because the same installation functions correctly with the traditional DAQ. I want to use these channel parameters: Dev1/port2.
I already tested to make a reset device and use "line or port configuring vi" but without successes.
    Thanks for your help!

I took a look at the example you attached and it looks fine. Here are a few things to try out BEFORE running the example from MAX:
    1) Remove any SCXI, SCC, and accessories from the configuration in MAX so that no DIO lines are reserved for communication.
    2) Reset the driver to work in DAQmx mode for your board. To do this, first right-click the "Traditional DAQ Devices" and say "Reset Driver" and then right-click your 6025E under DAQmx Devices and say "Reset Driver" again. This should enable the driver for DAQmx.
    3) In MAX, under DAQmx Devices, run the test panel and make sure you can read/write all the DIO lines there first. If that works fine you should be able to run the example.
Remember that the port names for the 6025E are Port 0, Port 2, Port
    3, and Port 4 (no Port 1).
    Good Luck!!!

  • My iPod touch 4th gen. Keeps giving me the error message "cannot connect to the app store when I sign in. I can open the app store and browse it but I can't download anything. I have full signal strength with my wi-fi and safari is working perfect.

My iPod touch 4th gen. Keeps giving me the error message "cannot connect to the app store when I sign in. I can open the app store and browse it but I can't download anything. I have full signal strength with my wi-fi and safari is working perfect. I turned it off and restarted it 3 times now. I have an iPad 2 and the app store works flawlessly with it. What is going on?

Same here on my lpad2. Can access the web just fine from browsers but cannot install new apps or updates in appl store.  Seeing a few others reporting same issue tonight so likely an apple server issue and staff will notice it in network monitors and fix it...sometime this weekend.

  • What is the normal amount of GB of Other Space for a new 32 GB Ipod touch 5 Generation with iOS 6.1.3? Also, will iOS 7 slow down/drain the battery of my device?

My Other storage space was at 2.84 GB after i loaded all my music/apps onto a recently purchased 32 GB Ipod touch 5 Generation with iOS 6.1.3.  Resetting the settings and removing the music and apps did not help reduce the Other space.  I restored to a backup and got my Other storage space down to almost 400 MB.  When I started syncing music it grew 500-ish MB.  Each time I sync, the Other grows a bit more.  This is really irritating.
The official listed available GB on my 32 GB is 28.22 GB (not including Other), so now I am irritated knowing that this Other is taking up my space when I didn't even have 32 GB of free space to begin with. So 28.22 - 2.84GB = 25.38 GB.
I want to restore to a new device to see if that helps, but do not want to upgrade to i0S7.  Is there any way to do this?
If I upgrade to i0S 7 I am worried it might slow my ipod or drain the battery faster.  Will it do that?  The ipod is expensive and I dont want it to go downhill and obsolete on me because it can't handle a better operating system.

Less than 1 1/5 GB is normal. It does grow with time.
What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
