NMH405 very...VERY... slow when acessing remotly... and odd to use...

I just bought a NMH405 and sent several emails to support but no answer until now. I’ve several questions related to the product… First, is it possible to access it remotely from an office network? I can access it remotely in my home wireless network but not in my office. Even im my home network the access it’s not straight… first will get a warning from IE saying that the website is not available or its not safe… Anyway, that is easy to overcome just disregarding the warning. Second… the website it’s extremely slow!!! And I mean SLOW to have access to the files… I was blaming it on my network but it’s not because I can access, wireless all the other stuff in the network with normal speed… Another annoying detail. In my home network we use a CENTRAL STORAGE (a external hard drive with 1TB were we keep all the pictures, backups, videos, etc) and we can have speedy access to it thru the wireless network were ever we are. That hard drive is well organized, with all the folders identified with DATE for easy location when we look for something. However, the NMH405 when it imported all the files from that 1TB drive (we just choose to import the pics videos and music) mixed everything. So now, for example, if we want to access the pics (d:/my files/pictures/25Dec2009/), if the /my files or /pictures doesn’t have any file inside will only show the folder 25Dec2009. That forces us to know all the folder’s names to locate our files! The system we use in the 1TB drive it’s quite easy because we just need to use the dates and everything it’s inside of it… but if the folder with the date doesn’t have any single file there the NMH405 doesn’t import it or even recognize it. To have access to all of the folders (similar to use the file explorer from windows) have to use the Browser (I think that’s the name!!!) which make it easier but not practical because in there we can’t see the preview of the files! Just can see the details… Its not possible to make the program just work like the Windows Media Center… would be much easier to use… even for young kids… If cant be changed… Does everyone knows another program we can use to use as Media Center to access the NMH405 remotely?

Hi!
Yes, the device can be accessed remotely. I can do it on mine using ciscomediahub.com and through the WAN IP Address. Most probably your office network is blocking the ports for you to access it. Read the article below (number 19).
NMH Series: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
As for your second problem, try to update the flash player on your browser. Maybe that could help. I'm not 100% sure but maybe it could. And lastly about the directory structure inside the hub, I suggest that you transfer files manually using Windows Explorer to the hub instead of using the Import Tool and place it to your desired folder in the hub. One downside in using the Import Tool is that it will create it's own folder on the hub everytime you import something thus creating duplicate files and at the same time destroying the original directory structure of your files.
For more information about remote accessing the hub, you can read some information on this link.

    Hello Jm23ur,
After reading your post, it sounds like you are experiencing performance issues with your device. You may want to consider restarting the device first, and then resetting if that does not work. This article provides detailed instructions for Restarting, and Reseting:
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    How to restart
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
    How to reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities,

  • G5 dual/1.8GHZ slow when switching users and starting mail, opening files

I have 20' imac dual cpu G5/1.8ghz/1gig/250gig drive with 10.4.11.
It is much slower than the G5 it replaced. Symptoms include: very slow when switching to another user desk tops, opening up the hard drive for the first time once you get there, opening entourage or mail for the first time; lots of beach balls.
The drive has more than half the space left, we don't have many applications running, our iphoto and itunes libraries are under 20 gig combined. I ran the disk utility and cleaned up permissions. We typically leave the mac on all the time but restart occasionally.
    Any ideas?

We'll let you in because you used to have a G5 iMac , but you really should post on the dual page. Anyway, have you cleaned your caches in the browser you use? You can use OnyX to clean all the caches. Make sure you empty the trash in all your user accounts as well. Try resetting the PRAM too.
    Hope some of this helps,

  • Running Slow When Viewing Events and Transcoding (and gets hot!)

    Hello community,
Before you read, please read my specs down below to rule that out.
So I'm running FCPX version 10.1.1. I just imported a lot of video (almost 1TB). All of it is in 1080p. I did not copy anything in and left it in its original folders. So I am having two problems:
    1. I wanted to transcode all of the video to work better with FCPX. Part of the original media is ProRes 422, but part of it was AVCHD. So after converting the AVCHD to Quicktime (.MOV) files, I went to transcode all of the footage to optimized media during import, but it was painfully slow. It would take 15 minutes to transcode a 10 second clip. My computer would also get very hot during this process (90*C). After multiple attempts, I decided to forgo that and just transcode when I export. If anyone has an answer as to why that is, that would be great.
    Now problem #2.
    2. I am just viewing the media in the events browser to put keywords on the videos. All I am doing is viewing the videos. I have not even created a project or anything. When I'm viewing it, a lot of the clips won't load or play back, and my computer gets really hot (90*C). I can't even scrub over the videos in the event browser because they will be blacked out or blank and won't load. And this fluctuates. Sometimes I will be able to view the media, sometimes I won't and it'll get really hot. It is really slowing down my workflow and it would be great if anyone had an answer. I have reset the PRAM and the SMC and neither of those have worked.
    Thank you!
    System Specifications:
    Mavericks OSX 10.9.3
Macbook Pro Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013
    16 GB of Ram
    Intel i7 Quad Core - 2.6 GHz
Intel Iris Pro with Nvidia GeForce GT 750M
    500 GB SSD - 202.44 Free
Secondary Drive (with all of my video files):
WD My Passport Ultra HD 2TB - 1.1TB Free

Your setup should be more than capable of handling that workload.
There are a few things you did not mention.
    How is the drive connected?
The most likely explanation for the slowness would be a slow drive. If the drive is only USB2, that would be a bottleneck.
You can easily test that by running Blackmagic Disk Speed Test. I do this with every drive to see what performance I can expect.
You mentioned converting AVCHD to mov. You should know you really don't need this. FCP X can import these files directly. It is best to keep the whole AVCHD structure by copying the whole folder or, better yet, use FCP X to create a camera archive. These will be used just as a camera card would, except much faster to import from, being in a hard drive instead of an actual SD card.
My suspicion is on whichever software you are using to do this conversion. There are a number of low quality converters out there, and if these files have problems they can easily cause FCP X to sweat (pun intended).

  • Tabs react slow when clicked on and often open in a new window

When switching to another tab in the same window Firefox will often not respond for several seconds. Sometimes it just opens the tab I clicked on in a whole new window, this will make Firefox not respond for several seconds. This happens very often, even when there is low cpu usage.

    Go to Tools->Options->Apps
Here you should see two columns: Content Type on the left, Actions on the right.
Find and select excel spreadsheet or any other content type in the left column. There should be a corresponding action in the right column. What is it? You can use the drop-down list to select the option you want:
Always Ask - Firefox will ask each time: What do you want to do with this file?
Save file - Firefox will save this file to your computer
Use - Firefox will give this file to the program to open it
In case of saving, Firefox will either prompt you every time where you want the file to be saved, or save it to the default location. It depends on the preference in
    Tools->Options->General->Download

  • IMac 21" late 09: Slow, screen flickering/tearing and odd behavior - the problem that puzzles everyone

    PLEASE HELP!
My iMac 21" late -09, started acting a bit wierd a year ago. Things got worse rapidly, it got slower, the screen flickers/tears (see link below), short moments of lost internet connection, lost connection whit the keyboard (might be keyboard that is broken), almost overheats when gaming and odd behavior on some webbsites whit galleries and/or videos.
Let's begin whit the screen: it's not vertikal lines or major distortions, just a subtle horisontal line that "wanders" from bottom to topp and some lagging from time to time. Looks like this: http://cl.ly/3i2W2o3S1D2T
The wierd thing is that hi-res does not mean more "tearing". Yes the lagg and risk of tearing increases, but the connection seems to be: lots of movement=tearing. So a pixeld 240p video of people dancing can be way worse than a news debbate in1080p!?!
Lost connection whit internet and keyboard rarely happens and is probably due to something else, but thought that was good to have in mind.
Odd behavior: galleries ex: when browsing images on Facebook in fullscreen, the image sometimes jumps around in the beginning and when clicking on next the same picture might appear again or just nothing at all. When scrolling down overwiewing a gallery, the updating stops and you can't scroll down further. This problem appers mainly on FB, deviantart also acts a bit wierd but there is often small issues whit image sites. Doesn't help to switch browsers either!
Videos: Youtube is horrible to use, stops loading, dosen't start loading, erases everything loaded (grey bar disapears and reloads), refuse to switch ressolution and suddenly stops the video like it was done! "ehh.. wasn't this 2min long? Not anymore, now its 34sec!". Mainly a Youtube problem but many similar sites can be a bit problematic to use.
NO, it's not the HTML-5 problem or any standard flash issue and using a different browser dosen't help!
Worst is the fact that most of these errors are not constant! One day your watching youtube or mabey a movie in VLC, a bit laggy, but almost no problem. Next day **** brakes lose and after 2hours of struggling you are ready to stabb yourself in the face!
What i tried: Most easy buggfixes that might cause the above problems, updating most things, Switched from OS X SL to OS X ML, complete reinstall and some things i probably forgot by now. Then went to MacStore for repair, they didn't find anything wrong and said it worked fine after the standard diagnostic/repair program!?! Went home and everything was the same! Went a second time to MacStore, same result.
So I'v reinstalled a few times and it seems to improve the Mac. But 2-3weeks later every error is back, even if I barely installed or downloaded anything!?!
Any idea what this could be? Or is the graphic card broken and MacStore has a blind, inbred muppet as a technician?

No I didn't. The first time i explained the problem thoroughly and thought that they just couldn't miss such a visual error. I was wrong. The second time the technician wasn't there so i showed the above clip to the salesstaff and explained everything onceagain. Later the technician called me and we talked for 10min.
Btw, the problems always "manifests themselves", just varies between strenght and frequence.
But all other issues aside, what could cause the tearing of the screen as seen int the above clip?

  • Sound drops in iTunes every other song for all speakers when a remote speaker is being used

Ever since I've run the most recent update for Mountain Lion, Whenever I play any songs from iTunes, and one of my remote speakers is being used by Airplay, the sound volume drops as if muted for all speaker sets that are active, even for the computer speakers.  All I have to do to fix it temporarily is to hit the pause button, then play again and the sound comes back...for about one or two songs, then the same thing happens.  If I only run my computer speakers, the volume stays with no problems.
    Any Ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
iTunes and iCloud and different accounts, you will need to delete both accounts from your device before adding the new details in their place.
For iCloud go to settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit the delete button. You can then sign back in using your correct details. For iTunes go to settings >store, tap your account ID and then sign out, you can then sign back in using your correct Apple ID.

  • Indesign slow when editing remote documents

We're using an Indesign/Incopy webbased solution to write/edit our Indesign documents. All Indesign (Incopy) documents are on a remote database server. So when I open such an Indesign document, I basically download it from the remote location, edit it and when saving I upload it back to the server. There are no local Indesign/Incopy files. While testing we discovered that editing can be very slow. When placing a carriage return in a textfield for example, it can take a few seconds and meanwhile the Mac is showing it's rotating circle indicating that it's busy. It simple text edit can take a long time when the document contains a lot of high resolution psd documents.
Is there anything we can do to speed up this process. Apparently it is doing something to the remote Indesign (or auto recover) document while doing text edits. Some kind of upload seems necessary to those documents while doing the text edits. And as the Indesign document is quite large when containing a lot of psd documents these uploads during text edits can take quite a while. What could it be doing during such a text edit and can that process be turned off? So I can open (download) the Indesign document, do my edits while there are no uploads necessary, and finally save (upload) the document?

The recovery folder is the default one, locally on my IMac.
    The process is as follows.
I select an Indesign/Incopy document on the remote server to open it. It gets downloaded and opens like any normal document. Then I edit and when I save it, it gets uploaded again to the remote server. All Indesign documents there are stored in the third-party database.
When I open a large (many photos) document and do text edits, a simple text edit can take quite a few seconds. The macs 'busy' circle rotates. It's saving to the local recovery folder, so that couldn't be it.
But it looks like it is doing something to the remote third-party database indesign file during the text edit?

  • ITunes Store is slow when returning sorting and display 50+ songs

    Hello
I frequently have problems whith iTunes Store searche results. For example today, I searched for Pitbull songs, and clicked on "display all" to get the list like display. Then I sorted the  200+ songs by clicking on popularity. Sorting was surprisingly slow. Using the scrollbar was also very slow, sometimes scrolling down continuously just after one click on the scrollbar, and more often laging.
My laptop has a Dual Core 2 processor @ 2.4GHz, 4Go of RAM, and a high quality WIFI signal, with win 7 64 bits. In addition no other software with high CPU usage were running  in background.
Does any one have noticed the same problem  ? Any advice to fix this.
    Thanks
    GaBo

I'm observing the same problem. iTunes is nearly frozen, especially podcasts make the system extremely slow, no downloads possible at all. Opening an album song list is also painfully slow. All this prevents me from buying from the store. Apple should be interested in this. Please note that I'm not using iTunes match!

  • Excel Really Slow when moving arounf and loading saved file

When trying to load a saved file I get the spinning logo foreever. I also get it when moving bettween cells.
Mac Book Pro 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

As said above, this behaviour is completely normal and a result of Excel (MS Office in general) being a PPC based program that is not optimized for the Intel structure yet. Therefore it runs under Rosetta and suffers from a crippling lag in responsiveness.
Office 2007 will be a universal binary and should net you normal speeds again. It is set to be released within the first quarter of 2007 for Windows and a Mac OS version will follow shortly thereafter.

  • Slow internet/DNS issue and SERVFAIL response using 10.6.4

Internet is slow since upgrading the older intel-based macs to 10.6.4 and since I received this new iMac with Snow pre-loaded.
nslookup, > scutil --dns and > dig -t soa local all return the same result
;; Got SERVFAIL reply from 172.16.16.251, trying next server
;; Got SERVFAIL reply from 172.16.16.17, trying next server
    Server: 172.16.16.254
    Address: 172.16.16.254#53
We can't change our .local configuration and have tried everything else on the forum we could find. Any other solutions?

    Not really.
Your local DNS server appears to be incorrectly configured, as it should be generating NXDOMAIN replies, not SERVFAIL.
Unfortunately, SERVFAIL responses tell DNS to try another DNS server, not just give up:
NOERROR        NOERROR indicates that the domain does exist according to the root name servers and that the authoritative name servers are answering queries correctly for that domain.
SERVFAIL        SERVFAIL means that the domain does exist and the root name servers have information on this domain, but that the authoritative name servers are not answering queries for this domain.
NXDOMAIN       NXDOMAIN can means that the root name servers are not providing any authoritative name servers for this domain. This can be because the domain does not exist or that the domain is on-hold. Make sure that you use whois when you see an NXDOMAIN.

  • How to sync ipod when hard drive and external drive used for music?

The Ipod can hold all of my music. My laptop has some current music, the external drive has old music albums. How do I set up the music library / itunes library to sync with the ipod and not erase the music from the external drive when it is not connected.
I am used to adding mp3s to player, and they stay there until deleted. Now I sync the Ipod, and if I don't keep the external drive attached, the Ipod loses the old music.
I have searched all discussion lines and do not quite understand the how to of multiple libraries versus other options.
    Thanks.

Easiest way is to make sure your exHD is plugged in before opening iTunes and syncing your iPod.

  • ITunes is very slow when updating apps

Since a few days iTunes is very slow when updating apps and downloading updates for iPad etc.
Very often a download is ended with the message server reply time to long.
I'm running the latest updated version of iTunes on an iMac mid-2010 with latest OS. I have some 3-4 GB out of 12 GB memory free and 70GB free out of 500 GB storage. I have measured my internet connection speed and it is very good 95-98 Mbit/sec.
I can't see any obvious reason to why iTunes is so slow. Have anyone experienced this? Please help!

Yes! I have the exact same issue. So I tried some things.
I am on Uvese (via wifi) and was trying to update the apps on my PC via itunes. Taking FOREVER. So i tired it directly from my iPhone 6 via wifi - same issue. Then I turned off wifi on the iPhone and updated over (ATT) LTE. That worked great. I am thinking it is a Uverse/ATT issue at this point.
