No bootable device when installing via bootcamp

I'm owning a macbook pro 13 inch mid 2009 and a USB thumb drive Kingston DataTraveler 100G3 16 GB.
I successfully installed Windows 7 on my Mac using Bootcamp ( with a little trick to enable "Creat a bootable flash drive" feature which was hidden in my bootcamp version ).
The problem is, after about 1 month, I followed exactly the same procedure, with the same USB and ISO installation file on my friend's computer ( Macbook Early 2008 model ), it just didn't work. When I tried to boot into USB, it said : "No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key ". Similar to this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgWBY6IezQA
And to be even more frustrating, I tested it on my computer again to check whether there was something wrong with my friend's computer, my computer couldn't even boot into the USB again
I'm really desperate now. I feel like there is some mysterious thing going around here. My USB's working perfectly otherwise.
I would be much grateful if someone could help.

If I understand what Boot Camp Assistant is telling me then it should be bootable, but as we speak I'm copying the data Boot Camp put on there off so that I can format the drive with DiskPart and make it bootable then put the data back. I'll see what happens and report back.

  • No bootable device while installing Windows 7

    hello there
i've read many of the posts on this issue but haven't gotten the answers that worked with my system (MacBook 13'' with SnowLeopard)
I'm trying to install Windows 7 from ORIGINAL DVD, but i can get as far as partitioning the HD and create a Boot Camp separate
    partition.
After that when Boot Camp prompts to install Windows 7, with the DVD loaded, i follow instructions, machine restarts and i get to a black screen
with  the message "No bootable device found". None of the keyboard keys work, just the Power button.
Windows 7 is loaded onto an external HD via firewire and I'm booting off of there because my MacBook internal drive is not accepting any CDs or DVD (but that's another issue).
I suppose that i'm getting this message because Windows doesn't have any way to recognize the firewire port/peripheral...
Is there any way around it? Because i've read in other posts that it's possible to install Windows 7 from external drives...
I've restarted many times and rebooted into OSX (but holding option key) and retried via Bootcamp, but unsuccessfully.
At the  moment i have a Boot Camp partition with ZERO content in it and i can't seem to move forward.
    Ideas?
Given i don't have a USB DVD/cdc drive, should i try  to do a disk image of my original Windows 7, and load it on to a USB HD and try that way?
i've never done a disk image with Windows, does it work the same way it does with mac, resulting with a .dmg file?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
indeed the missing FireWire driver could be the cause.
But the way you put Windows 7 on that external harddisk (HD) can also be the cause, since you would have to have a "Boot-Loader" on that ext. HD in order for it to be bootable.
Microsoft has released a rather 'short' instruction here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dd535816.aspx on how-to use an USB-Memory-Stick to install Windows 7 off it.
    One a bit more detailed http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-install-windows-7vista-from-usb-drive-detailed -100-working-guide/
But you have to do all the necessary steps on a Windows-PC !

  • Can't boot into Mac OS after Windows install via Bootcamp

    Hello.
Last night I installed Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro early 2011 via Bootcamp. After some major complications I was able to finally install Windows 7 and boot into it. Now I can't boot back into my "Macintosh HD" partition, it shows a no entry sign.
Hard Disk : 320GB Internal Sata
Partitions : 3 -> Mac, Bootcamp and 10.8 Recovery Partition
The good part is that I can still access the Mac OS partition in Windows and Windows is working perfectly fine. As a matter of fact right now I'm on the bootcamped windows.
I have a full time machine backup but still I am looking for a way to solve this without formatting the HDD.
    Things I have tried:
    1. Resetting NVRAM and PRAM
    2. Booting into 10.8 recovery partition and running DU.
    SMART Status : Verified
"Macintosh HD" grayed and Not Mounted
    Successful Verify Permissions (Twice)
Is there a way to solve this? Though the Mountain Lion partition shows when I press the Alt/option key on startup but I can't somehow boot into it.
    Thanks

Your problem is OS X is refusing to boot.
There is still a bootable volume on the Macintosh HD partition, it's just not working.
You can #8 Reinstall Just OS X while command r booted from the Recovery partition, as long as you don't use Disk Utility to erase the Macintosh HD partition, your files and programs remain.
Hook the computer via Ethernet cable to a router (or modem, power reset required) with a fast relaible internet connection, you will need your AppleID and password to reinstall OS X.

  • "No bootable disk" when installing Windows 7 on Macbook Pro (HDD caddy)

    Here's the deal.
    I have a 2011 Macbook Pro (8,1) that I bought a HDD caddy for.  It's beautiful.
I replaced the superdrive with a 1tb hard drive and it's wonderful.  I want to install Windows 7 via bootcamp on it.  I go through the steps (create install usb, download extra files, partition the drive) and once it restarts I get the following error:
I press keys, reinsert the usb stick repeatably, and finally hold down the power button to restart.  After holding down option to bring up the boot menu, this is what I get:
Where did my other disks go?!  I boot normally and check Disk Utility and, look at that, there they all are!
I've gone through variations of this for 3 days now.  Please help!

I recently ran into a very similar issue. Windows, or at least Boot Camp, will not boot into an HDD that is installed in the optical drive bay. I do not know why this is, or if there is a way to fix it; all I know is that as soon as I moved my HDD back to the HDD bay, Windows started booting again.
Boot camp has many issues with MacBooks whose optical drives have been replaced, which are well-documented on the web. This article (and its comments) describe many of them, and the workarounds that people have found for them. That said, I think that Boot Camp has improved with Mountain Lion (or possibly with the continued proliferation of optical drive-less machines from Apple), because I was able to boot the Windows installer just fine from the optical drive that I had removed and placed in an external USB enclosure. (Not that it did me any good - I received the dreaded error 0x8030024 when I tried to actually install Windows.)
What worked for me was to install Boot Camp before removing my optical drive, use WinClone to make a copy of that installation, and then clone the image back to the drive once I'd gotten my drives in place.
    So, in summary:
Try putting Boot Camp on the drive that's in your HDD bay.
The article I linked describes many of the issues you might run into and provides workarounds for them.
Worst case, you may have to reinstall the optical drive in order to install boot camp, then use WinClone to move the installation to any drive you wish. (Hang onto this image for all future Boot Camp installations.)

  • Windows 8 will not install via bootcamp. Please Help!

Hello everyone. So I have a mid 2012 MBP with an ssd and then the hdd in the optical dirve's place. Im trying to bootcamp windows on my hdd. Ive created the partition for it via bootcamp (200gb). And for my install im using the windows 8 system builder disc i bought, in the super drive that came out of my mbp. Now the error im getting is that windows  "cannot create new partition or locate current one". Ive already formatted to NTFS. I even tried formatting the enitre hdd via cmd but sitll get the error no matter what. I read somewhere that its because I  have a usb plugged in. The issue is I have to since I no longer have the optical drive installed. Does anyone know how to get around this error or is my only option to reinstall my optical drive and install windows and then take it back out? I hope not because there is no way i will be doing that. Please help me. Thank You.

    1) Try connecting to a different USB port
    2) Try installing via USB flash drive. After you're finished creating the image, make sure to unplug your superdrive from the USB port and the only connected USB device is the flash drive. See below for instructions:

  • Shockwave 12.0.0.112 MSI errors when installing via SCCM 2012

I am experiencing the same type of issue i have entered a bug report for Flash Player.
Upon pushing the vendor provided MSI via SCCM 2012, the uninstall of the older version 11.6.8.638 which is pushed enterprise wide, is removed from the machine, but the installation of the new 12.0.0.112 is not actually installing.  The log file that was on the machine from the command line we use shows this error:

Anyone else seeing this happening or getting the same issue when installing Shockwave 12.0.0.112 with the vendor provided MSI for distribution?

I didn't have any installation issue on Windows XP 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit.
You didn't say anything about your OS, btw.
And that swhelper_1159620.exe is a legacy (it's not related to the previous v11.6 or the current v12 installations).
For future, to get rid of installation issues, use the UNinstaller first of all:

  • Hardware not recognized when installed via an image

In our labs we use a lot of computers with various NI cards in it. All the computers are the same. The installation of the computers is done via an image over a network. When a new image is loaded, the hardware in the PC is not recognized, even if the computer configuration is exactly the same as on the image. An administrator has to log in every single computer, to run MAX. How can this be done automatically?

    Hello sillyprimate
As I understand it you wish to get your 128gb SSD to be recognized by your HP Pavilion dv6-7029wm. Unfortunately, as per the HP Pavilion dv6 Entertainment PC Maintenance and Service Guide for your computer located here your computer supports only the 160-GB drive SSD. This would be why it is not being recognized by your computer.
I hope this helps resolve your issue. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • No Apple Mobile Device when installing

Help !!!!  I have installed and uninstalled iTunes about 8 times, rebooted after each one and i still can not get the Apple Mobile Device onto my computer?  I have Windows 8 64-bit.  Is there some where i can go to get this to work properly?  I have checked the services in Admin tools and there is nothing sitting there.  I have also checked with my Norton security to see if it is sitting in there and nothing?  Can anyone help before i throw my computer out the window???  Thanks.

I have looked at this article, and followed their instructions for uninstalling itunes and its related components. I wasn't able to delete Bonjour a related conpoment of itunes and got the following message, There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact you rsupport personnel or package vendor. So I am not able to finish the instructions. So far I've used the following website to download Apple Mobile Device Support and follow the instructions there to get it back.

  • New to Linux - Getting Error No Space left on device when installing Oracle packages.

    Hello all,
I'm new to linux and was in the process of installing the packages needed for Oracle 11g R2 on Ubuntu 12.04 got a message stating that there was no space left. It seems as though I should have plenty of space because I am installing it on 16GB RAM 480 GB HARD DRIVE Machine with nothing else on it but the operating system and Ubuntu Desktop.
It seems I am running out of space in the /root and /var directories and am not sure how to rectify this.
Can someone assist me with this.
    Thank you.

df -h is one of the commands that will show you disk usage and partitions size.
Since you have desktop you could check this with some gui tool also.
First aid could be to resize your root partition and add more space to it.
Check on Google for how to resize partition using gparted.
Ubuntu is not certified for Oracle but you could still get the same error with other certified distributions.
First you should plan how and where to install database(where oracle home will be, datafiles etc.), then depending on that how to partition hard disk/s(separate root and home partitions or not, etc.), and then decide what is the appropriate size of your partitions.

  • IPhone 4 Doesn't Show Up As Drive/Device When Connected Via USB?

My 3G shows up on my computer as a drive/device so I can pull my photos, but the iPhone4 doesn't. Anyone else seeing this or have a fix?
    Thanks
    Ray

I am having the same problem. Are you using vista? I tried my 4g on a XP machine with no problems but this problem only occured on a vista machine.
I am guessing its a combination of the 4g os and vista.
I don't have a fix or know of one.

  • Cannot Change Desktop Background in Windows 8 Installed Via Bootcamp

I've been running parelells, but decided today to just go the boot camp route and everything went through fine EXCEPT I cannot change the wall paper on the windows 8 desktop?
I select the new image in desktop background in personalization click save changes and the background stays the same...?
    I don't get it.
And by the way, I am NOT new to windows or mac, been using both for a long time and was a systems administrator and bench for years, this is NOT a novice "how to" question...It's just not working?
    Anyone else seen this before?

are you using an activated version of win 8? you cant personalise win desktop otherwise.
