No byte[] in WLS 7.0?

Hello,
when reading the "WebLogic Web Services Known Issues" for 7.0 final, I
see that Change Request Number 75663 tells me that
"WebLogic Web services do not correctly handle SOAP arrays of schema types
which map to byte[]."
Does this mean that you can't have a byte[] signature in an EJB, if you
want to expose its interface through SOAP? I recall that this was the
case in 6.1 but it is not in 7.0b. I am dependant on this feature.
Regards,
Mikael

Hi Mikael,
Not to worry :-)
byte[] (which maps to xsd:base64Binary) is definitely supported in WLS 7.0 GA :-)
I have a sample Web Service (which is basically an extract from "The SOAPBuilders
Interoperability Lab
" interoperability test, that is hosted at xmethods), if you need more that "verbal"
verification :-)

Mike Wooten

  • JMS sub-deployment targeted to cluster

    Hello,
    I have read at the Oracle documentation that we can use a sub-deployment within a JMS module targeted only to a single JMS Server. But I have an application that create JMS resources with deploy descriptors (Application modules) and target the sub-deployment to a cluster with two machines, each machine has a JMSServer. It seems to work (I see them on the JNDI tree on both machines). This is the jms.xml:
    Do you also use sub-deployment targeted to a cluster or I shouldn't? Thank you in advance ;)
    I am using webLogic version 10.3.4.0

    Technically, cluster targeting a distributed destination is supported, and it'll work as long as your can be absolutely assured that the cluster will never host additional JMS servers - perhaps from future projects, or due to integrating third party products. Otherwise, your distributed destinations will end up creating instances on JMS servers where they don't belong - a common mistake that can be tough to diagnose and untangle. I highly recommend staying with the best practice of using a subdeployment that references exactly the intended JMS servers. Note that a subdeployment can reference more than one JMS server.

  • Amount of bytes in log files

    Hi
    I want configure the log file to show the amount of bytes used for every person in apache tomcat
    How can i do this?

    Usually, this is due to a localization difference in the JVMs. When WLS boots, the .log file should show you some detailed information about the locale it is using, make sure that is consistent across the machines.

    Hi Vlad, Kalyan
    Thanks for the response. Actually i am not planning to configure weblogic SIP... as it may need little insight. I just created domain including everything.
    Now i have created a new domain with basic functionality with default configuration. Now everything is working fine. I can see the Admin console as well.
    But i have stuck up in running the EM console. Below is the CMD prompt trace.

  • File too large error unpacking War during app deploy - RHEL &WLS 10.3.5

    I'm stumped and I'm hoping someone can help out here. Does anyone have any insights into the cause of my problem below, or tips on how to diagnose the cause?
    scenario
    We ran into an open files limit issue on our RH Linux servers, and had the SA boost the our open files limit fro 1024 to 3096. This seems to have solved the open files limit issue, once we restarted the node managers and the managed servers (our WLS startup script sets the soft limit to the hard limit).
    But now we've got a new issue, right after this change. The admin server is now no longer able to deploy and war/ear, as when I click on "Activate" after the install I get
    Message icon - Error An error occurred during activation of changes, please see the log for details.
    Message icon - Error Failed to load webapp: 'TemplateManagerAdmin-1.0-SNAPSHOT.war'
    Message icon - Error File too large
    on the console, and see the stack trace below in the Admin server log (nothing in the managed server logs) - indicating it's getting the error in exploding the war.
    I've tried both default deployment mode, and the mode "will make the deployment available in the following location" where the war is manually copied to the same location on each box, available to each server - all with the same result. I've also tried restarting the admin server, but no luck.
    The files are not overly large (<=34 MByte) and we had no trouble with them before today. I'm able to log in as the WebLogic user and copye files, etc. with no problem.
    There is no disk space issue - plenty of space left on all of our filesystems. There is, as far as I can tell, no OS or user file size limit issue:

    In the end, the problem was not in the Admin server where the log entry is, but in one of the managed servers where there was no such log entry.
    Somehow, and we have no idea how, the NodeManager process had the soft limit for max file size set to 2k blocks. Thus, the managed server inherited that. We restarted the Node Manager, then the managed server, and the problem went away.
    The diagnostic that turned the trick:
    cat /proc/<pid>/limits
    for the managed server showed the bad limit setting, then diagnosis proceeded from there. The admin server, of course, had "unlimited" since it was not the source of the problem.

  • Can JMS topics and queues be clustered in a WLS 7.0 Cluster?

    We are installing a weblogic 7.0 cluster with 1 admin server and 2 managed
              node servers. Two nodes have been clustered. We are at the point where we
              need to configure JMS. Has any one implemented JMS in WLS 7 clustered
              environment? What are the things to watch out when clustering JMS? Can JMS
              topics and queues be clustered?
              TIA for any helpful hints and comments.
              Regards

              I'm currently working on a project with WLS 7 here at work, involving
              the implementation of BEA's JMS Cluster. So far, I really haven't had
              many hiccups.
              "Karim Ali" <[email protected]> wrote:
              >> What are the things to watch out when clustering JMS?
              At least in WLS 7, the biggest thing that stands out is the lack of
              automatic failover. Also, Message Paging -- make sure you configure
              paging high/low thresholds. Or, if you don't wish for it to occur but
              can't stop the server (very common these days with SLAs), set that
              byte/message high threshold to a very large number (correct me if I'm
              wrong, but I believe BEA recommends 2^63 -1).
              "Karim Ali" <[email protected]> wrote:
              >> Can JMS topics and queues be clustered?
              Well, since Topics and Queues are extensions of the
              javax.jms.Destination interface, the answer is: Yes!
              (SIDE NOTE: most people usually refer to them as a [JMS] "destination"
              -- it avoids a lot of conceptual baggage and plus, less typing!)
              You'll probably want to see this section of BEA's e-docs:
              http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs70/adminguide/jms.html#config_distributed_destinations

  • 11g Method -- byte[] JGeometry.store( JGeometry ) fails for certain SQL

    Hi All,
    Using the new in 11g byte[] JGeometry.store( JGeometry ) method as oppose to the traditional STRUCT JGeometry.store( JGeometry, Connection) method fails for certain SQL statements.
    It works fine for statements like this:
    UPDATE PARCELS SET GEOM = ? WHERE ID = 47;
    These statements give errors though:
    UPDATE PARCELS SET GEOM = SDO_MIGRATE.TO_CURRENT( ?, (SELECT DIMINFO FROM USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'PARCELS' AND COLUMN_NAME = 'GEOM') ) WHERE ID = 47;
    ORA-06553: PLS-306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'TO_CURRENT'
    SELECT ID, LABEL, GEOM FROM PARCELS WHERE SDO_NN( GEOM, ?, 'SDO_BATCH_SIZE=5000' ) = 'TRUE';
    ORA-29900: operator binding does not exist
    ORA-06553: PLS-306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'SDO_NN'
    ? Being where I bind in the byte[] / Object as appropriate.
    So I get the above errors when using setBytes( index,  JGeometry.store( jgeom ) ); but it work when using: setObject( index,  JGeometry.store( jgeom, con ) );
    Is this a bug is known / will be fixed ?
    Thanks,
    Ronan

    Ronan,
    Typically this works fine in OC4J, but does not work in WLS or other containers since the connection type is different between.
    In OC4J, the connection is an Oracle connection which can handle these object conversions.
    We will try to improve the documentation for this to explicitly specify where this interface can be used.

    BEA currently supports AIX 5.1 ML-4. Your configuration is ML-5.

  • Defeat denial of service attacks: New feature in WLS 5.1 SP9

              Hi all,
              SP 9 for WLS 5.1 provides 2 new properties to prevent denial of service attacks
              (ISSUE 31269).
              The properties are weblogic.httpd.maxPostSize and weblogic.httpd.maxPostTimeSecs.
              However I miss more detailed information about the use of the properties, for
              example: Aer there default values
              whcih are used when I don't set the properties? Is there a geberal recommendation
              for values to which the properties could be set?
              What is the unit for the properties (bytes or kbytes for maxPostSize)?
              Has anybody used the new feature already?
              Thanks in advance
              Dieter

    in WLS 6.0 I believe the default is -1, which means infinite post size and
    secs. I don't think there's any recommended values for these. It all depends
    on how large your post size may be.

  • Change request #063743 & WLS 6.1sp3

              Change request #063743 in the WLS sp4 resolved JMS issue list says:
              "Fixed a problem with Message Driven Beans not acknowledging object messages"
              Are there any more details on this? Would this affect any MDB onMessage() operation,
              or just those that throw exceptions? Would this affect MapMessages as well as
              ObjectMessages? Also, is this related to the negative numbers I see in the "Bytes
              Pending" column after my message is processed? What sort of problems do the unacknowledged
              messages usually cause for people?
              Any thoughts would be much appreciated!
              -JT

    Actually I think the text on this one is wrong, or at least
              misleading. I just read the internal notes on the problem
              and it seems that the actual problem was that
              topic MDBs were not acknowledging messages if max-beans-in-free-pool
              was explicitly set to 1 in the weblogic descriptor, regardless
              of message type. Which leads me to guess you could work-around
              the problem temporarily by making the topic MDB transactional or
              increasing max-beans-in-free-pool higher than 1. Not 100%
              sure. Contact customer support to nail it down. (The newsgroups
              are not run by customer support - instead they are run by various
              volunteers.)
              Note that SP4 introduces another problem that breaks
              acknowledgement rather than fixes it. You will do best to
              go directly to SP5 (do not pass go, do not collect $200). Or
              contact customer support for the patch on SP4. I do not
              have the change request number for that one.

              Messages never get deleted. The JMS server eventually runs out
              of memory or or starts to throw quota exceptions.
              When the JMS server is rebooted, messages re-appear.

  • Setting Basic Authentication for Web Service in WLS 6.1

    Hi,
    I am trying to set-up a Basic Username/Password authentication for a Web Service
    that is hosted in WLS 6.1.
    How do I go about doing that? Also once I get the username and password, how do
    I pass that info
    to the SOAP servlet to do the authentication? Can you give me some pointers on
    this?
    Thanks
    Madhu

    How do you want to do it? Through use of client.jar for the service or
    directly? Here is how I do it directly:
    String auth = "guest", pwd = "guest";
    URL url = new URL("http://localhost:7001");
    URL cmdURL = new URL(url.toString()+"/systemtest/TestWebService");
    HttpURLConnection conn = (HttpURLConnection) cmdURL.openConnection();
    String encAuth =
    new BASE64Encoder().encode((auth + ":" + pwd).getBytes());
    // BASE64Encode distributes long strings on multiple
    // lines; we don't like that, no siree
    int it = 0;
    while ((it = encAuth.indexOf('\n')) != -1
    || (it = encAuth.indexOf('\r')) != -1) {
    encAuth = encAuth.substring(0, it) +
    encAuth.substring(it + 1);
    conn.setRequestProperty("Authorization", "Basic " + encAuth);
    conn.setRequestProperty("Content-Type", "text/xml");
    conn.setRequestProperty("SOAPAction", cmdURL.toString());
    conn.setDoOutput(true);
    conn.setDoInput(true);
    conn.setUseCaches(false);
    OutputStream oStr = conn.getOutputStream();
    String cmd =
    "<?xml version=\"1.0\" ?>\n"
    + "<soap:Envelope xmlns:soap=\"http://schemas.xmls"
         + "oap.org/soap/envelope/\"><soap:Body>"
    + "<ping><arg0>false</arg0></ping>"
    + "</soap:Body></soap:Envelope>";
    oStr.write(cmd.getBytes());
    oStr.close();
    InputStream iStr = conn.getInputStream();
    byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
    while (true) {
    int size = iStr.read(buffer);
    if (size == -1)
    break;
    System.out.println(new String(buffer, 0, size));

    You can use the encrypt utility to reencrypt the password.

    Hi,
    In Oracle, the field is defined as Number(5), but we failed to bind
    the Java Short/Byte object to the PreparedStatement in WLS.
    WLS 6.1 with SP2.
    Any hint here? Or other people can succeed with Oracle's own driver.
    I have noticed a post about WLS's Oracle Driver support will be ceded
    in the future. Can we still get support on the Oracle Driver from WLS?
    Thanks,

    We get this exception thrown from WLS:
    java.sql.SQLException: Cannot bind object type: java.lang.Short

    weblogic.jdbc.rmi.SerialPreparedStatement.setObject(SerialPreparedStatement.java:386)
    The method is like

    Seems like the driver failed to bind Short type correctly to Number
