No CAF Dictionary for developing CAS

Hi there,
I am trying to get familiar with CAF. So I downloaded the Sneak Preview version (Full Java Edition
SP15) and tried to complete one of the tutorials.
I created a new project, and a new Entity Service. That worked fine. Then the tutorial tells me to add an attribute to that service and tried to assign the type com.sap.caf.core.shortText to that attribute as the tutorial says. But I couldn't select that type from the simpleType-window because the node com.sap.caf.core wasn't there.
So i tried to generate the service-code (without any attributes). This didn't work either because the Developer Studio couldn't find any class from the package com.sap.caf.
I tried to find the classes in the Netweaver Developer Studio file-system (c:\...\sap\jdt\eclipse\plugins) and i found the classes. But that could not be way to solve the problem.
Can anyone help me, please!

thanks! That hint worked. There were several wrong entries in that .classpath-file.
After searching inside several jar-files i figured out that the following entries were missing:
In the Dictionary-Project:

I tried to import a development configuration and create a Composite Application Services Project in it. I imported a webservice as an external service. I create dan Application service and added the dependency.
When I select the implementation tab it is showing a popup that error in code generation. It is not recognizing com.sap.caf package
Also when i try to add input parameters I cant find any basic types to choose .

You can only redownload apps whilst they remain in your country's store - is it still listed fot sale ? If the app is still in your country's store then you should be able to redownload it via the Purchased tab in the App Store app on your iPad, if it's not shown there (but is still in the store) then check to see if it's hidden from the Purchased tab : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919
If it's no longer in your store then do you have a copy of it on your computer's iTunes and/or on your backup of your downloads that you can use to resync it to your iPad ?

No prefix found for development component

Hello all,
I do not fully understand the concept of Namespace prefixes.
I have created a "Development Component Name" "innobis.de/test" and a "Design Time Package" with value "de.innobis.test" in the SLD.
I imported the Development Configuration from the NWDI and created a new CAF DevelopmentComponent. There is no possibility to choose any namespace-prefix.
When trying to "checkin" the initial activity which contains the newly created DC, the following error is thrown:
FAILED: No prefix found for development component "asdgsdg/dictionary".
Appropriate development component prefix should be configured in SLD
(Restart IDE after reconfiguring SLD).;
No prefix found for development component "asdgsdg/ejbmodule".

Is there a way to update an external dictionary for services without migrating the services
Is there a way to update a common external dictionary used by many services without migrating each and every service that uses the dictionary. I have updated the table in the database and the external dictionary in our Development Environment. The external dictionary is used by many services. When I migrate the changed service to TEST/STAGE/PROD environments (NOTE: the table has been updated in the TEST/STAGE/PROD Databases), only the changed service is having the external dictionary updated. All other services that use the same external dictionary are NOT updated. I have the following questions
Is it possible to migrate dictionaries so that all the services which are using that dictionary are updated?
If the first one is not possible, Is there any other way to update the external dictionary without migrating all the services that use dictionary?

Hi there,
At our company we recently begun working on a project using Oracle ADF with
UIX. We got the Oracle JDeveloper 10g handbook and we did a 5 day Oracle ADF
course. A good way to start the project I think.
One thing that bothers me though, is that I cannot find a simple clean example
how to manipulate a record in the DB, going through all steps of MVC. I tried
this forum, the books we got and google. It usualy explains a small portion
of the steps needed, but never a complete example.
I know people will probably say you can design what you want in various ways
and that's its all up to the developer, this is also the power of ADF that it
can be very flexible.
However it would be nice to have a step-by-step example how to be able to insert,
edit and delete a record. Showing all the steps that have to be made in the BC4J,
struts and UIX, including creating triggers, seq, autocommitting etc.
I think ADF is pretty complicated, therefore having a step-by-step example guide
(design pattern) would be very handy for a beginner like me.
Do such guides exist, are there developers who created such a guide for themselves?
Would other developers find such a guide useful? I'm curious about everybody's
opinion.

Not able to release normal change document for development

Hello All
We have Implemented ChaRM in SolMan 7.1 SP10
Have created the Project and activated Charm with required DEV/QA/PRD logical component and before creating the Maintenance cycle, we did a check in the project which showed all green..
We are able to create a request for Change and go till the approval, when we try to change the status to release for development, it is throwing the below error and not letting us go further.
We have checked the MC phase, and it is in phase Dev with release.
Project is in IN PROCESS state.
IBASE and Component details are correct.
Tried to put back to Validation and re tried for Development and this did not work.
Until unless change document created successfully, we cannot go ahead even though MC phase is in DEV with release.
I have seen few blogs and I have checked below steps
system roles in SMSY
Landscape system info
Changed MC phase to DEV with release
Strange why it is not allowing to create change document ???

Three consistency checks are performed when you choose action "release for development" (resulting in the SMCR's status "being implemented"):
PROJECT_ASSIGNED: Project is Assigned
SYSTEM_EXIST: System assigned to collective change request
FOLLOW_ON_GEN_OK: Change Documents Can be Created
In case any of these checks fails, the SMCR's status returns to "approved".
These same consistency check are also checked when the SMCR status is set to "approved". The behavior for a failed check, however, is different in this case. Just a warning message is shown on the top of the screen and the "approved" status can be set.
Question 1: When you set the SMCR to "approved", those warnings are shown too?
Perhaps there is something wrong with the assigned project.
Check if the assigned logical component has the correct systems/clients.
Check if the transport tracks between the systems listed in the logical component are working.
Question 2: When you assign the scope (change type, in your case, Normal Change), some system data from the production system defined in the logical component are automatically filled (System, Client, Configuration Item, etc). Is this happening?

Every one of friends are using preview for developer cyan update so i cant wait any more. So , if I update through developer na what are problem i will face. Am using 720 and i have additional warranty so that i have any problem in warranty because my after updating developer , he services the phone freely with warranty....

If that's the case then proceed at your own risk. While I'm not totally in favour of installing the update, unless you are a developer for Windows Phone, but anyway, the latest Nokia Software Recovery Tool now allows downgrading or reverting back to the current consumer release update.

Choose CAF source for metadata???

Hi,
Im trying to create my second CAF Application on NWDS 7.0, after a successfully first application.
Everything looks fine; Im able to create Entity Services, Application Services, Generate All Project Code, Validate, Build and Deploy to J2EE Engine, and all, with success. The problem is when testing the developed Application Service.
Clicking with right button of the mouse on the developed Application Service, and selecting Test, it opens an Internet Explorer window, pointing to the URL http://localhost:50100/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/cafUIservicebrowser/ServiceBrowser?cafsource=true&service=sap.com/test/testeapp, after logon with administrator, it shows a screen displaying:

Im selecting CAF Source button, but an error message saying Error when getting service façade: Service Manager Initialization failed illegal argument exception: Unable to create javax.ejb.EJBObject are begin displayed.
Whats wrong? After this, I cant even test again my first CAF Application. It looks like metadata database of CAF, have been corrupted.
How can I restore the system without having to install NW04s again?

Hi,
Once again, thanks for the explanation, but maybe i didn't explain well.
After installing NW04s Sneak Preview, i was able to create and Test a CAF Application (Betting Pool example from SDN), with success.
Then tried to create a new one myself, similar to the previous one, and was able to compile, generate code and deploy with success, but when trying to test the entity service, a screen displaying Choose CAF source for metadata or define ABAP parameters and choose ABAP source: appear.
Since there, im not able to test any CAF application, even the first, which already worked.
This means that after deploying the second application, something gets corrupted. What is what Im trying to find out?
I confirmed, CAFAdmin and CAFUIAdmin roles are configured has expected, even because the first CAF Application already worked.

a line should be added into this file as such:
security.provider.n=com.sun.crypto.provider.SunJCE
, where n is the the order of which the security providers to be installed.
(2) You should have all the necessary .jar files for the JCE packages and it should located in this directory:
<JAVA_HOME>/jre/lib/ext
Some developers make the mistake of copying the .jar files into the <JAVA_HOME>/lib directory.

Different disk space alarms for development machines vs. production machines

In vCOps 5.8 I used attribute packages to differentiate between production and development machines on alerting and monitoring for disk space alarms. So if a production machine reached 95% utilization on a drive it would generate an alarm. I set this up in an attributed package and assigned it to production machines. I had a different attribute package assigned to development machines that would not create an alarm. So when a production machine exceeded the 95% threshold I would get an email indicating I needed to take action. I also had some different attribute packages assigned to some production machines that have chronically high disk space usage, but never reach the 100% utilization. These wouldn't alarm at the 95% threshold but maybe at the 99% threshold. In vROps I seem to have lost this ability which I'm not thrilled about. It doesn't appear that you can set different monitoring thresholds for different machines. So now after migrating to vROps I get alarms for development machines. Is there anyway to setup different monitoring thresholds for different machines. I know I could just put a development machine into permanent maintenance mode, but that doesn't really help me out with the ability to set different thresholds for production machines.

When you define a symptom that triggers over 95% of disk space usage, the default threshold value of the symptom will be 95.
But if you want different threshold value of 99% for your development machines group with the same symptom definition,
you don't have to define another duplicated symptom but just override(modify) the threshold value of original symptom to 99 in the policy edit screen.
In other words, single symptom definition can have different threshold values in each policy.

Nope, you do not have to create a new alert in this case.
If a symptom threshold value changes via policy override, alerts which have that symptom will fire at different threshold value accordingly.

For instance if I want the C drive to be a critical alarm when it reaches 95% on this machine and a critical when it reached 99% on a different machine.
Nope, as you see in the above example, applying different threshold value to each machine can be done regardless of the metric you use is instanced or not.
The KB is about treating a metric that has many instances for a machine and you may need it for disk space usage.
